New dawn - good to see you in here

Tegam - thanks for the link to the article - an interesting read, although not identifying with some of it (plenty of motivation to get frisky atm - hence the qu about protection). Bleeding stopped a couple of wks ago now - ob appt next Wed, but we didn't end up waiting for it to have a go, then the next day I was thinking, hang on, I could be fertile again - oops. Thinking I probably will be ok this early on - we weren't planning to have a second one quite this soon!!

lilias - hot here too - unfortunately a string of humid days - my evap air-con isn't so effective in the humidity, so things are a bit sticky. It was 35 degrees by 9am this morning - getting to 37-38 for a few days ina row -yuck! Not going out today, thank goodness - we'll sit under a fan.
Btw, those short night feeds I wouldn't consider a full feed - if I could make him go longer I would, then he might sleep longer too! he's just too sleepy and refuses to latch on after a while.
Boo to the thrush - hope it clears quickly for you both.

crumpet - glad your appt went well

Btw, I don't know how you girls get any sleep when co-sleeping! I have D in with me for an hour or so occasionally in the morning, and all his grunts and movements keep me wide awake I guess it's something you get used to after a while

Have a great day everyone! Someone's cranky and hungry here, by the sounds . . hmm, wouldn't mind some morning tea myself!

Wow, you girls are chatty!! Chattier than my belly buds! I will try to keep up, but if I miss stuff, forgive me!

AFU, well I think I have been blessed with nipple thrush (yay, not!) and I'm pretty sure DS has it in his mouth too. I had it when I had DD and it is horrible! I will have to get some oral thrush treatment tomorrow. I had thought it was just the way DS was attaching for a while, but today it is stinging like no tomorrow and DS's tongue is abnormally white....all signs unfortunately!
We went to the pools today. We have a gorgeous little public pool here and the big kids had a ball. DS2 was a bit unsettled when we got home because it was soooo hot outside and we didn't go for a swim (he's too little and I'm still bleeding!) but it was lovely to watch DD and DS1 have a ball with their Daddy. And it was our first officialy 'outing'! I really need to get out walking to try to strengthen my muscles. I still feel really weak in my core muscles and my back is still killing me (I had sciatica and SPD through my pgcy). The SPD is still there and I think the sciatica might be too a little. But it is going bit by bit. Still hurts though!!
To those of you with other children (especially two and a half-ish year olds) how are they coping? My DS1 is having a tough time coping with bub. Though not acting out towards Caelan, he says he likes his baby! But thing slike he's being really naughty, not listening, throwing toys, hitting DD, (doing lots of normal 2yr old stuff that he didn't do before!) but also not eating very well, being REALLY difficult to get to bed, waking in hysterics.....he's always been tought to get to sleep and not been a great eater, but he's even worse these past few weeks. Anyone got any tips? I know it's likely all normal and I will jsut have to ride it out, but still, thoguht I'd ask!
Ok this has taken me hours to write out (coming and going and tending to the kids) and reply to everyone! Hope I didn't miss anything!
And this is when we are being super quiet Kel, we went thru 20 threads when pregnant, it was maily Crumpets fault, she has MAJOR issues

DS1 sounds totally normal huni, so many people go on about siblings getting upset when a baby comes along, sounds like he is just being 2! A little advice, and i know its easy to say when you are not so tired but, go back to the basics, distract him when he is being naughty rather then give him negitive attention. And with dinners, give small amounts and try three nights of dinners he really likes, cut avo tea down so he is hungry and get super excited when he does well! All my 2 year olds go thru this stage I know its hard but the last bit of advice was, make sure you dont blame the baby for anything like 'shhhh - be quiet the baby is sleeping" and try to use the time that the baby is crying (like a nappy change time) to show and say to DS1 'see baby wants mummy but its L's turn. So when you have to do something for the baby and DS1 wants you you can say "its babies turn, it will be L's turn soon" Does that make sense??

Make sure you get something for that thrush!

    AFU:
had my check up at the OB and all went well.
mind u i didnt get away without a touchy feel mind u!
had my pap smear done while i was there, would rather my OB do it than my GP, and he checked out all my stitches and they were fine.
he had issues finding my cervix ( who would have thought) and the way it felt i think it was hiding up with my tonsils!

went through a few things with him and the good news is there is no damage done to my cervix and i dont have to wait a certain amount of time in between pregnancies, not that im planning on getting preg again this week but was handy to know!

we will have to follow the same process as this time, progesterone pessaries from 8 weeks till the stitch is in at 14 weeks bed rest on and off take it was easy as possible, all the same stuff as i did with summah.

so overall a good appt really, was kinda sad that i wont see him now unless we have another baby but im pretty sure we will, DH has admitted he is coming round to the idea of another one, he said he is far from totally convinced but is slowly warming to the idea so i figure by around july next year ill have him well and turely talked into it!
hey it wouldnt have felt right if he hadnt had a feel right

Glad you dont have to wait and can try when you are both ready, it would have played on your mind so much more if you had had to think of dates!

I have had friends that have kids 10 months apart!!! Scary huh?

I love the ABA website, i always throw a search in there when it comes to a breast fed baby before i google!

I can sleep thru all the noise molly makes cause i am totally and utterly tired from getting up sometimes 8 times a night and im lucky on a good night to get 5 hrs sleep. Thank god i dont need a lot more but i think i could sleep thru anything!

AFM: Miss Moo had a poo to work out from 3am! Naughty girl. I think if i had just let her have a whine and stretch and she would have done it, but i settled her every 5-15mins cause i was so worried she would wake the others up and they are all being so good for me at the moment that i dont want to wake them! Which meant that i started the day at 3am.... going to have to sort that out me thinks....

tried to have a day sleep but miss DD2 woke me after 17mins....ah well she is only 4 and that must have seemed like a huge time being quiet for mummy.

DH home tomorrow night at 9pm so ill get a sleep in on sunday YAY.

Miss Moo is so cute tho and starting to have longer wake times, she is also coping with the school drop off really well!

Oh anyone else seem super busy? I dont even get the time to talk on the phone anymore and i only get this time on the computer caus ei have the laptop in the kitchen while i cook.....??

Ok DS awake and time to turn the meat, chicken wraps for dinner anyone?

Lilias: I have been blessed with nipple thrush also, oh the joy!

crumpet: glad your appt went well.

Tegam: 3am start gosh you must be tired! And yes I hear you on the super busyness, but I only have a baby not a baby and 3 kids. And yay for your DH being home tomorrow night!!!!

Jen: I can sleep through the noises, but guess i'm just used to it. And if she wakes up sometimes I settle her in my sleep. Í've woken up numerous times to find my finger in her mouth lol.

AFm, Had Malaila weighed yesterday- she's up to 3.95kg! slow down little girl, your growing to fast for mummy!
Had an emotional day yesterday, but not going to get into it on here. But I should be fine. Malaila thought she'd reward Mummy's bad day with sleeping from midnight to 6.15am! I was in shock I woke up searching the bed for her, freaking out that she was gone lol. Am treating nipples for thrush at the moment and hopefully that settles down this pain, not that the pain would make me give up breastfeeding but it would be nice to have no pain. Ok better go get some housework done while she is sleeping!

    Hey everyone

Em: Oh no for thrush! Hope you get it sorted out super quick, glad malaila gave you a good sleep! The thrush monster can stay away from my house! Just don't give him your address :P

Tegam: I'm not doing any cleaning or cooking and I still feel super busy. Really REALLY not looking forward to DH going back to work, and we've just got the one bub!

Lilias: Pool sounds lovely! We are very chatty normally, things have slowed down a lot! I need to get out walking too, but can't leave SB alone yet, I can't even be in a different room. I'm assuming that will change eventually!

Crumpet: LOL at baby number 2. I can't even contemplate it at the moment!

    Jen: Hooray for friskiness

AFM: Just falling through the days at the moment. SB is healthy and generally happy (I hope!). Lots of poo and wee nappies and gaining weight well, 3.9 kg today, so 200g to get back up to birth weight. We seem to have sorted the wind thing, and we co-slept last night and it went super well. Now it's just getting him to sleep when he's settled, he settles well, but then doesn't drift off to sleep, the boob is the only sure fire way to get him to sleep, and it can take an hour or so, even then moving him into the basinette or putting him down beside us can wake him up again. Any tips? I feel so lucky to have him and guilty that I can't settle him, we've been really busy since he was born so I'm thinking over stimulation has a lot to do with not sleeping - he's woken up in a different environment a lot. Does it get easier as you go along?

Kit: it does get easier give yourself time Sammy is only just over a week old. Heck Malaila is 3 weeks old and i'm still learning. I don't think you stop learning. I have found Malaila settles way easier on her side/tummy (just prop her up with a towel so she doesn't roll fully onto her belly) and now she sleeps for hours rather then 10mins at a time. Also when I lay her down I pat her on the bum until she settles again or give her my finger to suck or both, it works for us. Obviously if she's really unsettled I pick her back up, but if I settle her while she is already in the spot I want her to sleep I don't have the issue of waking her when I transfer her. Last night this didn't work so I lay down with her in my arms and sang to her and that's how we slept, but she was having an unsettled night. It's all learning, take each day as it comes and what works one day might not work another. And don't feel bad if you can't settle her at times, I've found that it's been easier to settle other babies then my own and this really upset me cos I thought I should be able to settle my own baby!

Tegam, dont think I could cope with a 3 am start, my kids go back to school next week, still dont know if this will make things easier or harder, I am hoping easier... Dinner time is always hard PK has so far been good but tonight has gotten the witching hr happening, I will have to start cooking with him in the hug a bub me thinks...

Kit settling babies is our hardest jobs right now, what works for my child might not work for yours, and sometimes what worked one day might not work the next... I have a bad habit if I cant settle PK at night of sleeping with him chest on chest which means I dont really sleep...

Sorry girls have to come back later PK is cranky

WOW well well said! New Dawn and em have got it spot on Kit. It came across to me while i read your post - that you really are doing a fantastic job!

All i can add is that this mothering isnt the hardest job in the world for no reason! There is guilt on top of guilt, what we did wrong and what we should have done. And see here is me 4th time mum offering miss molly the 100th boob for the hour cause she is $hitty and new dawn 4th tim mum having to put pk in a hab to get dinner cooked, if there was an answer we'd know it by now!

i think you are all seriously awsome! pats on the back all round!

on a small note just to lighten things up a little - thats why everyone should have a 3rd, the first you have all these expectations of what you are going to do and be like, the 2nd you think 'wow now i know what i did wrong and how i can do it right, the 3rd lets you truely say 'hey this is as good as it gets'...then theres the 4th.....bliss

I am soooo relaxed about it all this time around. When I had DS1 everybody from midwives to child and maternal nurses to the mum's in my mother's group to family members commented on how chilled out I was as a mum. I wonder what they'd say about me now - I'm so chilled out I'm almost comatose!

I don't have time for personals, i've just woken up from a two and a half hour nap and really need to do some ironing. Things here are still going completely cruisey. DS1 had swimming today and DH took him to get his hair cut. DS2, DS3 and I stayed here and did some tidying up before playing chasings through the house I'm using the HAB a lot now just so I have DS3 with me but don't have to stop doing what I'm doing. Had a terribly, terribly upset tummy last night and this morning - I'm hoping I don't pass it on to the boys, it would make them very unwell. I think it's dehydrated me so I'm guzzling water now that it seems to have passed. Even water was making me cramp up last night With bfing I have to really make sure I'm taking enough in, as I'm sure you all know.

YAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!! for DH coming home!! and for a sleep in!!!

yep im hearing u on the busy! mind u i think im making up for lost time! i seem to need to go out EVERY day its driving me crazy!

crumpet: glad your appt went well.

AFm, Had Malaila weighed yesterday- she's up to 3.95kg! slow down little girl, your growing to fast for mummy!

oh dont worry im in no hurry, wont be till mid next year at the earliest let me tell you!

hmmmmm not sure on the settling, i feel horrid saying this but Summah tends to settle herself most of the time, if she is unsettled we have a cuddle and she has a dummy we use as well, and she goes in her swing as well and that settles her....
we pat her on the bum and lay her on our chest as well

I agree Guilt is our biggest enemy - I will choose not to feel guilty 'cause I'm doing my best (easier said than done!)
jen im a bit the same, i know im doing the best job i can and i just hope that thats enough!

AFU: all going well here, we are getting from 10pm - 4am for feeding and sleeping now so thats nice, occasionally she throws in a 5am too!

    Hello ladies!

Tegam, I figured that with DS's behaviour. I will just have to ride it out. It makes me upset to think it is probably because he's not getting so much time and lovin' from me which he's used to. I try to give him attention when I can, get him to help me and things like that, but he's pushing me away alot of the time and just refusing to be with me. Especially if I have Caelan.

Kit, it definately does get easier! All of us mummies with more than one would be advocates of that! I wouldn't have any more than one if it stayed as hard as it is in the early days. It's kind of a fog in the early days, especially getting used to the sleepless nights/ broken sleep. It's a shock to the system! But it gets easier, you're still figuring bub out. Once you get to know each other properly, things will be fine!

AFU, well we just went through a few days of horrific nights! I'm hoping he sorts it out, I so don't think I can do this with another terrible sleeper. Surely I deserve one kid who is like me and loves their sleep?? Last night we wer up until 2am, then a feed again at 4 and up at 6. Night before we were up til 4am, and up for the day at 9am. At least we got that bit of sleep, but I felt like I missed half the day! So over it already. Pray for a better night for us!! Ok gotta go the boy is calling me and my boobies!

    ARGHH!!! HELP NEEDED!

Ok, SB has been awake from 10 am, so 5 1/2 hours so far, with just bits of sleep in between. He settles fine, but as soon as we put him down he wakes up He's always been pretty awake, that whole newborn sleeping 16-18 hours a day thing hasn't ever happened. Generally he goes to sleep after 2-3 hours of awake time, he's happy when he's awake - alert and interactive. But it's taking longer and longer to get him to go to sleep He doesn't cry heaps, just a little, then he goes back to wide eyed and looking around for a while, then crying for a few minutes, then wide-eyed. And so on.

How can I get my little boy to sleep? We've tried HAB, swaddling, rocking, swaying, music, bathing, skin on skin, feeding and letting him cry for a couple of minutes (which sucked). What else?
