Bee - I relate to those feeling a lot. I'm starting to feel like I'm finally beginning to bond with DD2 now that she's home, but even then, I don't feel as connected (yet) as I did with DD1. It's so hard when you can only visit them in hospital and aren't necessarily allowed to touch or hold (or if you can, only for short periods). I wrote a post very similar to your in the prem/nicu section of thr forum. everyone said it was fairly normal, perhaps check it out? How long was she in hospital for? Hopefully all the doc appointments bring good results and you can just spend some time enjoying each other.
For a ticker click on someone's (think you need to be on your comp) and it'll take you to that site. Follow the steps from there (sorry, not great instructions - I'm half asleep feeding).
Amy - I can't believe how long your DS is! Good luck with things on your own, I'm sure you'll do fine. My plan at the moment is just taking each day as it comes - I'm trying not to worry how I'll manage in the future and just aiming to get through one day at a time.
Dusty - wow! 6kg! I can't imagine DD2 ever getting to that size lol. Good luck with the doc apps. Sleeping wise, are you using a sleeping bag? I used a wrap me up with DD2 and it was the best thing ever. She slept so well. I plan to used it with DD2 too, but she needs to be at least 3kg.... Luckily she's happy being wrapped at the moment....
Well it appears DD2 is trying to catch up in the weight stakes - and quickly. Today she's wanted to be BF about every 2 hours since 2am! It's 1pm now and I'm currently feeding for the 6th time today! I think part of it is due to the heat here (and we can't have the air con in too much as we've been told to keep her in a 26ish degree room until she's at least 2.8kg) but a lot is due to hunger! I hope this doesn't continue for days....
That's awesome Chody she will also be trying to get your supply increased as she plans to be bigger very soon!
Amy I'm in awe - a night sleep sounds so delicious although that said the swaddling is paying off and Felix is resettling well at night now.
Bee welcome! I'm sorry you're facing a hard time right now. I'm sure you're doing a fabulous job. My DD had hip displaysia and while it was a shock at the time it went quickly and she was never bothered by her harness as we found it early before she wanted to move.

Chody- we did 2 hourly feeds from about last Thursday, it was very hard, I think it was the heat too, finally back to normal today ( well I hope, better not speak too soon) but the heat is coming back this week boo!
Hi everyone else, we just had our 4 week checkup all good, she is 4.5kg, 39cm head and 56.5cm long, have to get my head around vaccines soon- eek!
Bee- i hope things settle for you soon and you can enjoy your little one x
The most sleep I get at night is a 3 hour stint, but I can cope with that if its that and a few 2 hour ones. Don't know if I'd be able to sleep all night now lol, still jealous tho!
Thanks for your support, Chody all up she has spent about 8 days in hospital, praying she gains at tomorrows check otherwise she will have to go back. Not sure how its going to go as she has been sleeping more and feeding less with this cold and usually vomiting after feeds with all the mucus. Seeing our GP today to get my scar checked so I will take her with me. She is also having tummy time the poor thing she tries to sleep but every 10 minutes or so she stiffens up and cries ...anyone else encountered this?
Bee do you mean on her tummy? I only give DS about 5-10 mins a day as he doesn't like any longer.
Saffy sounds like we're on the same night schedule as you. Does DD settle well between feeds?
Felix had his immunisations yesterday and was inconsolable for a couple of hours before bedtime. He slept most of the afternoon but was very unhappy. Panadol overnight seems to have gotten him through.
Chody and bee I hope your little ones are going ok.
Hope everyone else is going well also.
I have a baby who has his nights and days amiss at the moment. It seems he does not believe in sleep at night and when I can get him to sleep he is so so noisy. Lots of napping for me to keep up. It's going to be hot again here so expecting ds to want to feed extra as this is what happened last time. Otherwise all is good and totally in love with the night owl
keta- gotta hate those hot days and nights, poor bubbas. Do you have foxtel? i tape shows during the day and watch at night while bf, makes it seems easier.
dusty- she sleeps between feeds overnight (in a swaddle bag) but is terrible during the day, won't leave my arms, i'm prepared to put up with it ( like i have a choice lol) as i get good 2-3 hr sleep blocks at night.I better get some panadol in preperation for the jabs.
Bee- sounds like you have your hands full
Argh the heat is a drain hey Keta. Hope DS gets his times the right way soon.
Saffy I'm glad you're able to sleep between feeds at night. Have you got some sort of carrier for the daytime?
Yeah i have a hugabub, gets quite warm tho! Of course after bragging about sleeping 3 hours between feeds overnight, that all fell in a heap last night lol.
If my baby was 2 weeks postdates would my 5 week wonder week have happened at 3 weeks?? hope so, don't fancy another one next week
Uh oh! I always counted the WW according to age not EDD. 5 week WW went ok here, now waiting for 8 week one while we are on holiday :/
The HAB are warm I've just starting using it and a Close Carrier the last couple of weeks once the heat wave calmed down but DS is too heavy now at 6.2kg. Just bought a Manduca but DD wants in it every time I bring it out lol. HABs are lovely for squishies though. Perhaps a small mei tai would be cooler?
I just realised I was mistaken about the WW, you're right Chody. DD was 17 days late no wonder she was so advanced for her age but that said EDD are just a guide for us as everyone of both sides of DD family were almost 2 weeks overdue. We brew longer lol.
I think you'll know when a WW is happening.
I can't wait til DD2 makes it to 2.8kg and I no longer have to wake her every four hours at night. Once again I've had to wake to the alarm both times tonight and wake a sleeping baby - it doesn't feel right lol.
Hi all, sounds like everyone is travelling well at the moment. Seems we have similar babies Dusty and Saffy- we get okay night sleeps but day settling is a bit of a pain and I've found it way too hot to wear the HAB or sleepy wrap. I'm also finding it really difficult to work out when he is ready to go back to bed so I think I probably have an overtired baby on my hands quite often.
Saffy, what swaddle bag do use? I am really struggling with wrapping my big baby and when I put him down awake he fights it until his hands can get to his face.
Chody it must be hard to get your little one to feed well if you have to wake her for feeds? I totally agree that it feels wrong to wake a sleeping baby- hope she gets to the goal weight soon for you.
Keta, I always find when I have a rough night my plans for day sleeps seem to disappear with an unsettled bub or lively 2 yr old! When I do get one I'm pretty sure I slip into a near comatose state!! Good to hear you are getting lots naps.
Bee, how did Katie go with her weigh in?
DS has just got his first head cold too. Lots of booby time for him (my answer to everything!)
Hope everyone else is going well and enjoying these first weeks the best you can.
Nicnac - if your DS likes his hands near his face, have you ever looked into buying 'wrap me ups'? They're sleeping bags where the babies arms are kept near their face (but they can't hit themselves and wake themselves up). DD1 hated having her arms wrapped down too and these were my lifesaver. I'll be using them again with DD2 when she hits 3kg (min weight to use them) as she likes her hands near her face too. Look them up. Our local baby bunting stocks them, but you can also buy then off eBay.
We use the 'love to swaddle' cos she can put her arms up, she won't have them down either. Its really great and has helped a lot, need two though cos she always spews a bit and ends upwith the hand bits wet and spewy smelling, so I have to wash often. I only put her in it at night though, day times I try and swaddle with muslin but its hit and miss. At the moment we are having one good night then one bad night, so looking forward to tonight lol I might get a bit more sleep.
Our day regime is feed, change, feed,( 30mins total) play/awake, topup feed ( 5 mins) sleep hopefully for 30mins then start again- every 2 hours.
chody- thats annoying, at least you get a good gap between feeds!
Dusty-I agree, a WW will hit us when it wants and I can't change it anyway so not stressing over it, but hope you get a good holiday with a bit of breathing space
Better jump in the shower while DD is asleep- she has been awake since 4am so I hope she stays asleep til I get out of the shower at least!
Just popping in to say hello. Have had a few days of hell here. Hubby went back to work (FIFO) on Thursday morning so im back feeling like a single parent again. Quinn would not sleep all day and then didnt go to bed until 12.45am! He only slept until 5am and then didnt sleep AT ALL yesterday, not even 5 minutes. He just cried and whinged all day and wanted to be held, the minute I put him down he screamed. I tried everything under the sun to settle him but nothing worked. He finally zonked out last night and slept until 3am and then woke again at 7.30am. I think its the heat, it was 29 degrees in our bedroom on Thursday night. Last night it was quite cool here so I was able to dress him a bit warmer and he slept better. He will not let me swaddle him arms in at all which is a pain. I have the love to snuggle swaddle bag as well but he hates his hands and feet being in something so he wont sleep if he is in it
I have been cleaning and cooking today, we have another looker coming through our house tomorrow. The real estate agent said he is pre approved and keen to buy so fingers crossed he makes an offer!
