Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Welcome Dansta! Glad to hear you have some help. My DP only took a few days off, so I've been managing three myself for two weeks. It's not as bad as I imagined! Hope your DD is over the jaundice quickly. All that feeding will help. Any sunshine where you are?

Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Hey everyone,
Just checking in to see how everyone is going?
We are going well, DH is home for another couple of weeks so we are trying to get DS1 out and about as much as we can.
So far so good with DS2. He is still such a sleepy head, has a feed then straight to sleep until his next feed 4hours later.
Only time we hear from him is if he has some wind that didn't come up, or of he's grunting trying to poo!
Its so different the second time around isn't it?
Besides a stressful couple of days when we first came home when he wouldn't feed, I am so much more relaxed this time, which is great!
We also cracked the 2.5kg mark on Monday this week, and he's looking and feeling bigger again today!
Strangely, I find myself missing being pregnant. Didn't feel like this first time round, and I'm quite surprised as I had a difficult pregnacy and felt rotten the whole time.
Does anyone else feel like this?
I suspect part of it for me, is knowing that more than likely I won't be pregnant again!
Will pop back in soon, love seeing all the gorgeous babies in the Facebook group!

Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
I expected only two weeks of help... But thanks to miss bugs being only 3 days late i get more of a buffer.. a nice change lol.
Mw came out. Miss bugs is only 60g (2oz) down on her birth weight. She did a blood test to check jundice but my milks come in already *rageragerage* lol. And miss bugs has her photo in the local paper too heh.
Just need to fine tune sleeping arrangenents here.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Hi Dansta! Yay for your milk coming in.
Sah - Glad you're so relaxed now. Your Bub sounds very chilled!
Jen - two isn't toooooo bad, but three?? Not sure I believe you, lol!
Little O - scary. Hope Bub is ok now. I'm sure two at home will be fine.
AFM - Bub isn't as cruise as I'd wanted him to be. His reflux means he gets hysterical at least once a day, doesn't sleep much during the day (occasionally on me) and feeding is painful as he pulls off to cry often (my nipples are SORE as!). He hates the car so we don't go anywhere and the 6-8 hour night sleep has been replaced by 3-4 hours so I'm feeling tired on top of everything else. I'm feeling up and down about it all - down when he cries at my boob, I can't get him to sleep or I can't console him up up the rest of the time - he IS a major cutie after all lol! And DS1 is the best big brother :)
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Jleigh - hugs hun. Have you looked into thickner- with Dj i'd feed him then express a little and mix up a paste of thickner... It helped a little. Another suggestion would be to cut dairy and wheat out of your diet and see if it helps any.
Afm - milks in....and how. I actually had to go into town to get a hand pump to relive the engorgement. Poor miss bugs couldnt lach propperly. Had the midwife out yesterday, little miss was only 60g down on birth weight. But her jandace levels where border line for lights - which would mean we'd be back in hospital over night. So the mw came out for a 2nd blood test but seeing as i fed miss bugs every 2hrs yesterday (as,best as i could over night with rock boobies PLUS a graze on each nipple) so hopefully its enough. Plus she had a sun bath (napped in the morning sun) for half an hour. But i think her yellowness is fadeing.
Hope every one has a good long weekend!
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Hope your DD's jaundice fades soon and that the feeds and sunlight do the trick. I'm looking at cutting right down on dairy (but not eliminating it fully) but need to get some more info on whether it's worth it. I think the meds are kicking in more though - we had 15 hours of sleep in the past 24 hours, a new record:)
Pretty sure I have nipple thrush now....only finished putting cream on them a few days ago. Grrrr, as if I need more stuff going on!
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Back in for lights *sigh* only upshot is that shes in with me. I didnt want her in scn all alone.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Oh no, hope the sleep is a sign of things improving Jleigh!
Dansta hopefully she won't need to be under lights for too long, if it was borderline?
Do you know what the SBR was?
B was borderline and only under lights for not quite 24hours.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
325 up.from 270, cut off is 285. Im feeding her as she demands to flush it out. Not like with the boys where it was 20min feeds every 4hrs or something daft like that.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
It's good that's it not too high, and hopefully the feeding will help!
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Yeah, im setting my phones timer for every 2 and a half hours, then timeing 40min feeds then 2.5hrs so she can drain each breast as such ss i'm in jersy cow mode and making.some stupid amount of milk, but may need to express off the excess if she cant empty me fully... I have one cracked/bleedy nipple but shell push through and i have that boob airing.out after each feed.
Im glad im at a regional hospital, if i was at the same one as i had the boys id have been sent home rather then rooming in.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Oh Dansta, that's no good. Hopefully you'll get outta there real soon.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Hope you're both home soon, Dansta. And that the engorgement eases. This time I had a toddler feeding to help me out (almost made up for the unpleasantness of bfing during the first tri). Hopefully being your third it will settle down more quickly.
We're doing well here. Three kids is not really any harder than two, although managing a toddler and newborn is harder than school-aged and newborn! DD3 seems very happy with all the milk she guzzles, even if she does end up spluttering and gagging sometimes. Still an easy baby, soooo lucky. And she likes to sleep in until about 8 in the morning (wakes once overnight, but since we're cosleeping I literally feed her in my sleep, and then at 5am, after which she goes straight back to sleep). Loves being worn, but will have one long nap in the afternoon in bed. Loving doing the newborn thing again and well aware it passes so quickly.
I'm taking her into work on Tuesday to show her off and get some stuff done. Did our first try with the nanny here and worked from home last Tues (DD2 was at preschool). It actually felt really good to use my brain for something other than feeding, changing and washing.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Jen that sounds good... Im trying to study while in hospital i figure its productive. And wooo for showing off a newborn. Always fun with the added bonus of useing the non-mummy brain; winning!
Afm: i expressed off 120ml before as i was well on the way to rock boobs again. Woo, not. But the night mw seems ok. But we'll see. I feel bad, i gave miss bugs a dummy. I cant exactly feed her to sleep in the humidicrib. So she has one, i figure 12hrs with one isnt so bad and when home i'll be the dummy.
Hopefully its only a night here... I want to be home with dh & boys

Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
I've written down my birth story for those who are interested: https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums...d.php?t=196016
I think I've managed to process what happened now. Not sure DP has though!
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Hi all,
Just quick hello.
Jleigh - hope things are getting better, and that your DS and reflux and sleeping get better soon.
Dansta - hope your DD's jaundice pushes off ASAP! And you can get home with your boys.
Jen I'm off to read your story now . I need to write mine before I forget! I've asked my sister to help write mine seeing as she was there and I was high on gas! Lol
Hi everyone else too, hope you're all still living in newborn baby bliss :) I am

Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Hi mummies!
Anyone else dying a slow and painful death with their nipples?? Those first 10 seconds are killing me!
Settling in at home now. Dd1 loves her little sister. She even climbs in under the play mat with her.
Dd2 slept better last night too. She did some 3-4 hours stretches last night so I feel slightly more human today. She doesn't like to settle in her cradle but she loves her little Moses basket so now she is in there.
How is everyone's feeding routine going? Overnight dd2 seems to have decided to want to have play time after her feed. So it seems to be wake-feed-play-feed-sleep. Only thing is I don't like this system at night. I've forgotten how to get her to wake-feed-sleep at night? Any suggestions?
Dan: how is your dd going?
Jleigh: how is the thrush?
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
LittleO my nipples are sore too... Bad attachment for two feeds and they're just starting to heal. My left one is sooooo tender anything touches it... And feeding omg its murder. The midwife showed me how to lach bugs so to minimize pain.
As for nights im useless. Bugs is up, changed fed and falls asleep on the boob... For now...
Afm: bugs, was under lights for just over 12hrs hopefully her numbers keep falling and we dont need to go back under lights. Im feeling zombieish with her 3hr feeds 24/7 but i know it needs to be done. For her jandice & my poor boobs. Thankfully a $39 hand pump from kmart is keep engorgement to a minimum. And getting a stock pile of milk in the freezer .
Is any one else struggleing with pelvic floor... I feel like mine wants to snap it i pick the boys up or run...and then i feel like im walking like a cow boy at noon :/
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Dansta - my pelvic floor felt so weak I would lose all my guts! But that was because of my uti and a bit of constipation. Even though no tears from birth, my nether region copped a hammering afterwards. Hopefully there isn't anything else going on for you.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Dansta - my pelvic floor felt non existent for the first week, but is much better now :)
Jen - Jealous of your cruisy Bub ;)
Yules - looking forward to your birth story too.
Little O - I hear you! My nipples are cracked, peeling, red and SORE! I'm looking for a LC as Dr Google and I think there's a link between DS' poor latch/pulling off/crying at feeds, my pain and thrush and DS' silent reflux....I don't think there's any food intolerances, but perhaps a lip or tongue tie?? If we can get this sorted (or just improved), we can maybe work on the sleep issues...DS fights sleep too. He is extremely hard to put down when he's in our arms and because he needs to be upright after feeds for his reflux, it keeps him awake. Night feeds can be two hours by the time he's back in bed, so I get about an hour sleep after midnight unless DH takes over. He likes to be worn, but gets too hot in the wrap, even inside in the AC, so 40 mins is max.
On the plus side, he usually has a decent nap in the morning (2hrs maybe), a 5-6 hr stretch from 6ish at night and...
....is starting to smile!!!! One side of his mouth is better at it than the other, which is extra cute. Can't manage to get a pic yet :(
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
So cute, JLeigh! DD3 has smiled at me a few times too, she studies my face so intently and has really woken up to the world over the last few days.
Those of you with sore nipples, please pop into the bfing threads and also make sure you get some IRL support. Even calling the ABA helpline might be just the thing you need to get to the bottom of the cause. It shouldn't hurt when baby is feeding and any pain does indicate that there's something to be addressed. and I hope your poor bbs all feel better soon.
Had a lovely day visiting BIL and SIL so the cousins could all play, it's so nice now there's five kids between us! I do feel like our family is the size it was meant to be with number three.
The subject of vasectomies came up over the weekend. DP asked me if I wanted him to get one. I said once I was 40 it would be a good idea. Before then, let's not do anything permanent. I might like another and I know DP is unlikely to want a fourth, but no need to completely close that door just yet. ;)
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Yay for smiles, and the beginnings of smiles! One of my favourite "firsts"!
Hope those with feeding issues, they are on the improve.
All good here, kinda sad at the thought of not bring pregnant again/labouring again, but excited by all the fun things to come.
Settled into a routine here, will be interesting to see how long it will be until DS2 changes it up, but it's working at the moment.
Only issue we have so far is we have a Houdini on hands!
Still have DH home for a couple of weeks, which is ace.
Not much else to report, except I went into my old work today to show off DS2, he was an angel and all the girls love him! Have promised to take him back next week as my big boss and one of the other girls wasn't in and they are desperate for some cuddles! The cupcakes they made for us were also delish!
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Must have been the day for it, sahbear, I too went to my client's office today to show off DD3! I got a lovely bunch of flowers. I also spent most of the day here, working (thanks to DD3 cooperatively sleeping). I had planned to come in and see how we went - had a meeting room and car spot organised and managed five hours with a lunch break. Both the older girls are at preschool and a vacation care program today, so it felt almost relaxing to only have a computer and DD3 to manage!
Next Friday I'll have the nanny with me to take DD2 and DD3 out and about while I work. Worked with DD2, so I can only hope it works with both the littlies at once.
-
Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
You're better than me Jen, I purely went to socialise and eat cake, haha!
Was easy for me today as DS1 is at daycare, so will make sure I do the same next time I visit :)
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
I take my hats off to you jen & sarbear! Back at work already! (even if it is for cake ;) )
Had ... Moment? ... Last night... We all know how newborns poo... Well miss bugs bottom turned into a factory. She poo'd i cleaned 5mins later again.... I clean, put fresh nappy under and AGAIN! Before i even closed the nappy... So i cleaned her and she went *again* third time i cleaned her she was 'empty' and cluster fed for the next 2hrs which ment i woke up almost bursting so expressed off 60mls aside for some comfort. For me.
Saw the mw for weights/sbr test. Im going to see if i can see my other midwife this week to thank her although she didnt deliver bugs she was a huge support and went above and beyond what she needed to for me.
Oh and i got miss bugs a bouncer too, so now when i need to leave the room eg cook dinner shes not laying on the floor she can see what im doing
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
I know what you mean Dansta about the poos! Dd2 goes through phases of the same!
We'll done all you ladies going back into work!
How is your ds2 going jleigh? How are your nipples? Mine have improved a bit now thank goodness. They're still not great but so much better than with dd1!
Had a post natal appointment with the hospital today and dd2 has put on 480g since discharge!! So she is over her birth weight now. Little gobble guts! Actually she feeds less often than dd1 did, but she must just be a better feeder.
Hope you're all staying cool!
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Geez girls I haven't been getting the notifications! I'm sitting here with ds2 asleep on one arm and dd asleep on the other. Must wake her soon!
All good here . School starting Monday so a whole new routine to get into.
Ds2 I think has conjunctivitis or something. Has a bit of goop in his eyes and they're a bit pink. I've been putting boob milk in them.
Been a bit emotional... Doing too much for everyone and I'm not getting much of a look in. Told DH that I should dress in cricket gear and he'd perhaps notice me!! Just a bit 'woe is me' at the mo.
Totally loving my little blonde DS. He definitely did a smile yesterday so that was gorgeous. And I cracked his code so he's stopped megga pooping (green explosions) and is back to normal. He even sprayed one off the change table and onto the floor today! Glorious!
Anyway will go, need to wake dd so I can move!

Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Quick hello from me - hope everyone is doing well. Saw our m/w yesterday. Baby has put on 1 kg since last weigh at 1 wk, little piggy! I can see how much she's grown by how I need to adjust her nappies. Clearly that's why she's sleeping so much at night, obviously lots of milk on hand. She's smiling at me a bit more when I talk to her. Otherwise, she's very placid. Transfers when she's asleep too, which is a bonus.
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Hi girls!! Quick howdy for me, I have a busy week ahead!
DS2 is growing quickly, he is starting to fit his clothes a little better :)
He's a relaxed one like his big brother, which is great! Hopefully it continues.
Hope everyone is getting used to their new additions and routines!
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Sounds like everyone is settling in well. Glad everyone's nipples are improving too - mine are pretty much pain free unless Ds2 latches badly. Then we try again til we get it!
We're doing ok, but I'm struggling with DS2 not sleeping during the day. It's such a vicious cycle....reflux means pain, which means sleep is hard, which means he's overtired, which adds to his grizzles and makes him fight sleep even more. He's doing 2 or 3, 15 -30 min naps during the day, with maybe one of those not on me. He wouldn't let me put him down for even a minute yesterday without crying, so I had to go to the loo, get DS' lunch with a screaming baby. Makes me feel sooooo guilty and just plain worn out. Ok, boo hoo over!
We saw the dietician/LC on Friday. She's suggested eliminating soy and dairy for a month. I'm missing my milk sooooooo much, but if it helps DS, it's worth it. Lots of label reading!
DS starts kindy today, just 2 hrs transition, but it's still a big deal! My baby is growing up!
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Quick one from me!
DS2 has passed the 3kg mark! He was 3.2kg clothed and with a wettish nappy on, so I suspect he would be about 3.1kg!
Which is about 650gr up on his birth weight in just under 4 weeks, which I'm pleased about!
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Yay, sah! How are you doing with DH back at work? We should catch up sometime. I'm starting at postnatal exercise classes next week, hoping for Tues at 11am.
As for us, DD3 doing well, growing heaps. I've started putting her in 000s as the 0000s are not long enough. I think she's longer than her sisters were. She's been having a cranky day today, lots of complaining and not a lot of sleeping. She'll be exhausted by this evening! She also rolled herself from tummy to back on the bed this afternoon (at least she was putting her crankiness to good use!). Must be hitting her six week growth spurt slightly early. ;)
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Jleigh: glad your ds2 is improving a bit.
Yules: dd2 had the gunky eyes. The Midwife said it is just that they can have slightly blocked tear ducts. Has it cleared up yet? I did the breast milk in hers and it's better now.
Great weight gains sahbear!
Jen: is your dd in her wonderweek?
We'll dd2 is growing like nothing else. She's in the 90-98th percentile for her measurements (weight, height and head). She's feeding well.
I thought I was getting mastitis last week again but I seemed to avoid it. Now today it feels like it's starting in the opposite breast. So annoying. My nipples are fine now but by the looks I am just prone to mastitis.
How is everyone's babies sleeping?
How are you going Dansta?

Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Jennifer, catching up would be great! I'm going to try and do the postnatal class too in a few weeks - so will try and do the same one :) wow for miss C being in 000, she must be a longy! Hope she has a big sleep tonight!
LittleO sounds like DD is going fabulously well. Yay for avoiding mastitis.
Yules and Jleigh, how are you going with bigger kids in kinder?
We are going well, I think Ds is going through a growth spurt, he is sleeping most of the day, and last night did 8hours straight from 10-6. He is feeding 4hourly during the day. (Not expecting the overnight sleep to last, but it was good last night!)
DH went back to work today, and we all survived! And we all even had a nap at the same time!
Hi everyone else :)
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
So jealous of you sahbear!! 8 hours straight!!!! Oh what bliss that must have been!!

So jealous of you sahbear!! 8 hours straight!!!! Oh what bliss that must have been!!
Unfortunately DS1, who never wakes up and has slept through the night from a couple of months old, woke up!!
Thankfully he went straight back to sleep!

Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Yeah, yeah, rub it in Sahbear! Lol. Bub sleeps 5-6 hours straight at night, then grizzles, farts and burps the rest of the night away, sleeping in maybe one hour blocks if I'm lucky. Day sleeps are about 40 mins on me, or about 15 mins if I put him down...can't seem to get him to transition to the next sleep cycle (unless I fluke it, like the 1 hr 40 we got today. Yaaay!!)
Little O - Bub is an Olympic sucker and feeds every 2.5 hrs (with a cluster feed session in the arvo), so my nipples are still sore here. Thrush seems better though, but vasospasm every couple of days. Fx you don't get mastitis - it's no fun at all, is it? Great going bubba, too!
Jen - I prob need to wash my 000's shortly. Hope the growth spurt grizzles are short lived!
AFM - Mum is coming over from Qld on Thurs to help out. Just need a bit of help...so many little things together are making things tough here. Sleep troubles, my sleep deprivation (DS1 isn't keen on letting mummy nap during the day, even if Bub would cooperate!), Bub's reflux (improving, but not quite there yet), Bub not coping with kindy drop offs and pick ups in the heat, sore nipples from my booby monster, Bub hating the car, aching back blah, blah, complain, complain... !
Hope everyone else is going great :)
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Sar - sounds like you're doing awesomely. Megga sleep would have been pure bliss. Says she typing on a forum at 12am while feeding! I'm doing alright with it though. Co-sleeping a bit so I can get a few more hours in for myself.
Kindy is going well little O, thanks. DD loves it and is going without fuss. Glad the half day transition is over as that was a nightmare for DS2. I was slack though as when it was warm I drove. It probably takes longer to get in the car than it does to drive there.... But anyhoo!
DS2 is becoming a giant. Seems to be taking after my 29kg 6 year old instead of my 13kg 3 (almost 4) year old waif! Going to the health clinic tomoz for MG so will weigh and measure him. Getting plenty of goodness it seems and he poops Australian world record! Going through so many nappies!
Ok gotta go, he's faffing now xx
-
Re: Babies Born ~ January 2014 #1
Yules - I hear you on the pooping...and the effort that he puts into it, you'd think he was passing bricks!
