Ahhh seems I was able to resettle him

Is anyone else's baby a big spewer? Ash has always been a happy chucker, but it just seems to get worse and worse as he gets older. 99% of the time it doesn't seem to bother him and he sleeps really well during the night, so I've always been pretty certain he doesn't have reflux, but sometimes I wonder... Sometimes he will still be throwing up when it's time for the next feed and the amount just seems to get more and more. He gets the hiccups a few times a day and they seem to be getting a lot stronger iykwim? Then there are occassions when he will wake from a nap with an awful cry (and he rarely cries), I'll go in to settle him and often he will have a big spew or when I pick him up have a burb. Could he be developing refulx at this stage? I thought if they were going to get it it starts pretty early... His weight gain and poos and wees are good, so I know he is keeping enough down. I've tried keeping him up right for 20 minutes after he's fed, burping him in between feeds, having him lie at an angle when he's feeding, but nothing seems to make any different and I can't help but worry...

    Just quickly.

MissE: Because Ash generally sleeps well and he has great weight gain I would tend to think that he is just a happy chucker. Both my older girls were like this until they were 6 months old. The doctors would be reluctant to medicate if he is happy and has good weight gain but if it get worse it is worth mentioning next time you visit the doc or MCHN.

Hi all, the little man is due to wake up for a feed any minute now, so sorry for lack of personals.

Thanks for all the feedback about Ash's vomiting, I'm pretty confident it's not reflux and it has seem to have improved (marginally) the last couple of days... Mind you it was really bad over the weekend and for the few days leading up to it... Oh well, I'm sure he'll grow out of it sooner or later (just hope it is sooner lol).

I haven't even thought about christmas yet (it's frightening how close it is!). I have no idea what we will get Ash, so all your ideas are great. I think we might ask family to get more practical gifts like a high chair and car seat, because he is quickly outgrowing his capsule and I think by christmas we will need to move up to the reversible seat. We normally do a big family lunch at our place, but I am hoping to duck it this year if we can. DH and I were even toying with the idea of going away, but I don't think we'll get away with that. Then January we have all of DH's family over from the States which will be a handful. We've got them coming in two two week stints, his mum and aunt first and then his dad and stepmum. I get along well with his mum and aunt, but I have to admit I find his dad trying at the best of times, so it will be interesting to see how things go now that Ash is in the picture...

Anyway, have to run, but will be back for personals in the next day or so. Hope everyone is doing well xo

Hi Belinda, good to hear from you welcome to the thread! I had wondered if you would pop in. Congrats on your baby girl wow 9 hours a night that is fantastic lucky you!

Sarah hope Corey settles & starts sleeping longer for you! Glad to hear ou are all feeling better.

Jetta glad to hear the move is going well. Good luck working on the self settling. I found it much easier than I expected this time! So you never know he might justdo it for you with no fuss...

Cate glad to hear the needles went well! Arlea had her hip scan this week, all was fine, I think they just like to be careful? Hope things improve for your DH at work.

Storm I have had a look for the Bumble balls on the net, I would like to get one too! I found them on youtube HERE but can't find any Australian stockists, they do seem to be mostly a pet store thing - I'm sure I got mine in the toy section in KMart! I don't think it matters though, if I can find one in a pet store, it looks like exactly the same thing.
Enjoy your weekend visiting your parents!

MamaPan hope J settles again soon for you. That's great that the osteo is working! The MooGoo is good stuff isn't it!

MissE good to hear that Ash's reflux seems to be getting better. Sounds like you have a very busy Christmas time coming up!

    How is everyone else going?

AFM I had Arlea weighed yesterday for the first time since her 8 week vax (4 weeks ago). She has only gained 300g but she has grown 3.5cm! So she has dropped a percentile, still above average but not as high as she was. The nurse plotted it wrong to start with & went into worry mode, trying to arrange for us to see the Dr right then! until she realised her mistake & said it wasn't as bad as she thought
I'm not too worried..she was very chubby when she was born so she still has that baby chubbiness, just not as big. She still looks quite healthy to me & she is obviously thriving & doing everything right. The nurse at the front desk agreed with me..but I will take her back to be weighed in a fortnight, and then she will have her 12 week vax 2 weeks after that (gee they come around quick!) so we will keep an eye on it.

Hope everyone is well, have a great weekend!

    Hi all,

Sorry for not doing personals but I forgot who has had what happening as I've been busy running around the place and trying (and eventually succeeding) to do uni stuff (I must be mad to try and get uni stuff done - although it's my last subject in my Masters of Ed course).

Not too sure about how I feel about going back to school in a fortnight (2 Mondays time) - DH is going to spend the first week home with DS except for the Friday (he's going to Sydney for the day) and it will be Blake's first day in Childcare. It could be an interesting week for DH might get a few visits/phone calls to school for me.

Blake's also been having trouble going to sleep during the day and early evening. I've eventually learnt that he doesn't like sleeping before about 8:30pm in the evenings and more often it's closer to 9:30/10pm when he'll go down - takes after his father a bit there - night owl - while I'm an early to bed kind of girl. But he only wakes twice overnight - somewhere between 2 & 3 am usually and then around 5 - 6 am for feeds and nappy change, then up for the day somewhere between 8 & 9 am. His day sleeps are starting to settle down again, thank goodness. He used to sleep for 2 - 3 hours and go down easily before his baptism (20 Sept) but got out of that routine that weekend and fought going to sleep during the day since then. This week we're starting to get some longer sleeps than 1/2 hour (when I got up to put him in his cot) on me after feeds (saw a just a few movies on DVD the last few weeks). Starting to get back to having a 1 1/2 - 3 hour sleep in the cot again or in the pram if we're out watching DH play tennis after settling to sleep in the sling.

I've not been seeing a MCHN, I've just gone up to weigh Blake every now and then. (Is that bad? ) I don't have any questions for them often so I don't see the point. DS's currently 6.97kg and 61.5cm at 14 weeks/3mths1wk (3.17kg and 48cm at birth)

Although this week I kind of do have a question. (will also post this question in the general baby/toddler area)

Blake's got really dry skin all of a sudden (it's been working up to it for the last fortnight) on his face and (this has come up in the last week) on his body. I haven't changed anything in the past week or so.

He does have a bit of cradle cap which is slowly disappearing (tried baby oil, MooGoo scalp cream, and olive oil) but it seemed to migrate slowly onto his forehead (before trying the Moo Goo scalp cream) and then down the edges of his cheeks (closest to his ears).
The dry skin doesn't seem to bother him - although DH is a bit concerned. I put some MooGoo MSM cream after DS's bath each time on him but it doesn't seem to have done much. I thought I'd try something different last night instead and tried to use sorbolene cream and DS started screaming as soon as I tried to rub it in so that came off reasonably quickly with the face washer and the MooGoo went on instead. I did put a little olive oil afterwards on a spot near his chin on his chest to see if that would help as that spot was starting to get scaly like his forehead and cheeks. (I eventually ended up using olive oil on his scalp & forehead to ease the scaly-ness of the cradle cap as I wasn't getting to putting on the Moo Goo scalp cream often enough and the MSM cream wasn't appearing to do much. The olive oil seemed to settle the forehead a fair bit). His back and chest seem to be dry and looks a bit patchy in it's dryness. It almost looks like a rash but I'm not sure. It doesn't appear to annoy DS so not quite sure there.

    Hi Everyone.

Welcome Belinda. I am at Windaroo which is near Yatala, so I am very close. Us Bris/Gold Coast girls should do a meet up one day!!!

I have been mia due to a really hard week with all my girls. I actually have averaged 4hours of sleep per night. Miss Eva has decided that sleep is just not required through the day and DD2 thinks that she doesn't need to sleep either lol. So I've beeb a little frazzled to say the least.

I am going solo for a week, whilst DH goes away for work. Should be fun

I'll be back later to read everything properly

    oh oh...so many posts!

lauren - hope things have been better since your night from hell

miss e - sorry, no help here, corey isn't much of a chucker. sounds like he's a happy chucker but there is an infants reflux support website that i found really helpful when it seemed like corey might have silent reflux (i.e. no chucking but pain). if you haven't seen it, let me know & i can pm you the details.

we've all had a cold here so we've been a bit miserable it also put a stop to the cot sleeping because i didn't like corey being down the other end of the house when he wasn't feeling well. yep, i'm one big softie! we're all feeling better now though so we'll have to get back to it!

corey is another one who sleeps for around 40-60 mins for each nap, although while he's been sick he's been sleeping for longer - always in the middle of the day.

even though there's no sleeping right through the night here, we do have a sort of routine - around 5.30 i feed corey, then a bath at around 6 & into his grobag, then another feed at about 6.30 & then into bed. we've noticed that if we skip the bath, he wakes alot more often through the night. not sure if it's just a coincidence!

no rolling here yet but lots of grabbing at things & he's putting everything he can into his mouth

hope everyone else is doing well , sorry for the lack of personals!

Sloane- Hayley is the same, everything she grabs finds its way into her mouth! She has a little cow that rattles and she grabbed it by its ear the other day and she was sucking on one of it's horns! So cute. Had a nice sleep-in until 9 this morning! She woke at 7 but I didn't want to get up so popped her into bed with us and she went back to sleep. I didnt think she was ready to wake up as she woke up crying.

She managed to roll onto her tummy yesterday and can sort of roll off it. She only rolls onto her left side though, unless I make her go the other way. Hopefully she figures out how to do both sides, is it normal for them to favour one side? She's going really well with tummy time, although we don't do it very often, once a day if we're lucky! i just find it hard to fit in, can't do it too soon after feed time as she just chucks up (understandable!) too close to nap time and she gets the craps with it in about 10 seconds. yesterday she held her head right up though and her back was really arched. So I don't the lack of tummy time is doing her any harm, her neck is really strong although her head is still a bit wobbly.

Better go before she wakes up, she's sleeping in her pram at the moment. The floors really need to be vaccumed, haven't been done for nearly 2 weeks and they are gross! really need DF here so he can watch Hayley though, as the last time I vacc'ed she must have woken up when i was halfway through and when I stopped the vaccuum she was crying her little eyes out in her cot and I hadn't heard her!

Same here.. Arlea was having very little tummy time for the same reasons, plus she didn't really like it... but we have been doing it a bit more lately & she is doing much better with it all of a sudden, lasting longer too.

SS Storm- good to hear that Hayley is coming along! How exciting that she is rolling now! I am sure they may favour one side. I notice with Sam that things like when he first starting using his hands more it was always his left, also he use to look to the left more so I would always encourage the other side too and now it is better at both but still grabs things a little more with his left. Maybe if her muscles are more developed or something?

Sloane- interesting about the bath thing. Hope your colds are all better now!

Miss excited - Sam isn't spewing as much as he was but he definately still does sometimes and it can be like 2 hours after he has eaten. I use to worry about reflux cause when I put Sam in his cot he would whinge and kick his legs like he was in pain. After all the reading I did (probably too much) it seemed that babies with reflux are in a fair bit of pain so if he is still reasonably happy when chucking I probably thing it isn't reflux. There is a website totally devoted to reflux which has some pointers to look for if you think it is = RISA - Reflux Infants Support Association Inc.. This might help you get an idea. It is a bit vague but it helped me a bit. Perhaps as his stomach gets bigger he is sorting himself out? Sam gets the hiccups at least once a day still, today he is being looked after by my mother in law and she says he has had really bad wind all day and yesterday arvo did 3 vomits in a row which was unusual. I think it must have something to do with what I am eating. If it keeps persisting I would probably talk to the doctor about it just in case but as others have said if he seems happy I wouldnt worry. A girlfriend of mine with 3 kids says her first was a chucker, they couldn't even use the baby bjorn and she was like that til about 1. She still is a bit but is more settled and she is 8. Anyway, sorry for long response!

Jasp - way to go with daycare, I can totally understand as I am back at work one day a week with my mother in law looking after sam and I miss him so much. I know it is good for him to spend time with others but I want him all to myself! I don't want to miss anything. I too find it a bit strange they told you not to come back until you finished feeding, can they do that? If you need to be back at work they can't tell you you can't come back because you breast feed?!! Did they mean it like that or were they trying to make it easier on you? As long as they are doing the right thing by you

Anyway AFM, Sam is great, not rolling yet but grabbing at lots of things. Loves sticking his fist in his mouth a lot!! He too has tummy time where he tends to just lie there and doesn't want to lift his head much but when he does he is very good. I find that Sam mainly does his talking when on his back on the floor and is very talkative when on the change table!! Sitting up doesn't talk as much. I can't wait til I see him starting to roll. Didn't have too much of a wonder week, two days a bit unsettled and today is having problems with wind. He was having good morning sleeps last week for about 2 1/2 hours but today seems to be back to 25 minutes!!
For a whole week now has been sleeping from 10pm til 6am which is great but I am waiting for him to change back!!!
His new bedroom is very very light so I am worried that he isn't going to sleep as well from this week in his new home! We stupidly have had the room dark as he always sleeps better when it is dark but his new bedroom has heaps more windows so I think next week is going to be a bad week. I know he has to get use to it though. Moving on Wednesday and getting lots of help from both grandmas!!!

gosh there have been some long posts! Hope everyone had a good weekend.

jetta - I hope Sam keeps up those sleeps for you! It will be interesting to see if there is a change with the lighter bedroom. Since daylight savings I am really aware that Zac's room is a lot lighter when he goes to bed, but I'm not sure whether the light is making a difference or not - this week has been a bit all over the place anyway!

jasp & ss_storm - Zac has just started appearing to enjoy tummy time and really holding his head up well. He has also rolled a couple of times on to his back Pretty impressive that Hayley can roll onto her belly though.

Sarah - how funny is the putting everything in their mouth? Zac seems to like sucking on everything atm - yesterday I ended up with a 'love bite' on my arm, but most of the time I seem to just end up covered in slobber ...

AFM we have managed 3 nights (not in a row) of sleeping for 8 hours, although getting him to sleep to start with is a bit challenging... I never really thought he had a routine, but he must have had one cos it's all out of whack atm. Somehow we're getting to 5pm-ish and he's due for a nap, but he's also due for another feed in half an hour, and then bedtime at 7pm, and it all ends up with lots of hollering and a very over-tired baby and worn out parents... not quite sure what's gone wrong. I think I will need to work backwards from bedtime and try to make sure the day pans out properly. It's hard though when he generally sleeps for 45 minutes every 2 hours, but occasionally will sleep for 1.5 hours... Anyhow he's asleep now, and I think I might just hop into bed myself hmmmmmm

    Hi everyone
Forgive me for the lack of personals - if i wait til i have time to catchup on them all i will never post again!
Jetta - hope the move goes well, will be interesting to see if the lighter room makes too much of a difference. We did put block out blinds in DS1 room but i dont think it ever chgd his sleeping.. hope it doesnt have an impact. I dont envyyou moving but i hope it is great once it is done!
WTG all the babies who are rolling. J isnt close to doing that yet.. I feel that maybe i dont give him enough tummy time. better get onto that.. he does it a few times a day but not for long, lots of the time he is lying down but then sometimes he really does lift his head and look around. think he needs more practice! he sucks his fists all the time - reaches out to swat things but doesnt really intentionally grab at things yet. oh well it will all come with time. he smiles and babbles a lot - might end up like DS1 - super talker but a bit slow in moving!
HIs excema is quite bad atm, and app tomatoes and strawberries in my diet can cause a bad flare up - so i have cut them out. bummer as I am on a diet and had upped these both a lot last week...
I ordered some moo goo so hope it arrives soon and gives him some relief!
I dont get the 8 hrs sleeps here - the most we have had is 6 i think.. but i am quite happy with his sleeping and he is a good self settler so far so i wont chg anything.
had him weighed yest and he is 6.5kg now - big boy!!!! his head is still growing so all good on the fontanelle front for now too.
we had a hard week last week with dh away... and he is away next week too but i am heading to the beach wih my mum and the boys so that wil be great
Anyway hope everyone is well and enjoying their bubbas - if you ask me they are growing up too fast!
