Miss E I would tend to agree with Bekz - sounds like he is a happy chucker - but can't hurt to mention it at his next check?
Sarah hope you are all over the colds?
Jetta good luck with the move today!
Cate, WTG with the long sleeps! Hope he gets settled back into a bti of a routine soon for you.
MamaPan hope your MooGoo arrives soon. I got some scalp cream for Arlea's cradle cap from our health food shop, it's great stuff!
Jess I hope Anton is better for you today. I agree with Lauren sounds like it could be his ears?
Lauren how are you? Have you had the chiro appt yet? thinking of you
AFM, we are good. Arlea also grabs at things & has her fists in her mouth quite a bit. DH saw her doing it & went & stuck the dummy in! but it was funny, she spat it out & went straight back to her fists; she only has the dummy to sleep & she just loves slurping on her hands lol.
Not rolling yet here either but she has started travelling, lol - the last couple of days - we put her down on her rug & she kind of pushes her bum up with her legs, then plonks down again - kind of like humping along on her back! It's so funny to watch, I have never seen any of the others do it. We end up having to rescue her & put her back on her rug
Still haven't weighed her - bad mother! but I am certain she is growing! Will get her weighed this week. I need to convince DH to pull apart the cot tonight to move it from her room to ours... she has sooo outgrown the bassinette!
Miss E - I agree with the other ladies, sounds like a happy chucker, but wouldn't hurt to bring it up at his next check.
Sarah - I hope everyone's feeling better!
Jetta - Good luck with the move! Hope it's as stressfree as possible!
Cate - Sounds like the sleep's going well for you!
MamaPan - Hope the moogoo helps little J out! I've heard great things about it. Have you tried dermeze? Noah had bad skin and that helped some.
Jess - Glad Anton got the ok from the doc. Did they have any theories as to why he was so unsettled?
Jasp - lol the "back humping" sounds like a hoot! Hope you can convince hubby to get the cot set up and hope the transition goes well.
AFM - lol well I must have been an evil dictator in a past life, I'm sure of it. To top of my stellar week last week, I got a phone call on Friday from DP's co-worker to say he'd been taken to hospital with a suspected broken ankle. After a few tense hours and many phone calls, it turned out it wasn't broken, just sprained. What a sook! He was given MORPHINE for a sprained ankle, puh-lease! Anyway he's hobbling around, annoying the bejesus out of me atm.
Took Ollie to the chiro on Tuesday, she seems to think she should be able tohelp with the wind, and general irritibility. He's going back to go tomorrow, so hopefully will see more of an improvement after that. He's been pooing a lot since he's been, so it seems to have loosened him up a bit down there! I also decided to put him on pro-biotics and take him off the Zantac. I'm convinced it wasn't reflux in the first place. He's no worse since having been off it, and at least he happily takes the probiotics. I think I'm going to try to work on getting him sleeping longer for his naps while DP's home to distract Noah. He's still waking up after each sleep cycle, and then gets so over tired by the end of the day. He seems to be having a bit of a wonder week this week too, wonder what new skills he'll have by the end of it?
On a lighter note, have any of you even thought about what to get your babes for Christmas? I know it's still a while away (11 weeks I think I read somewhere), but because we have Noah's birthday in December too, I want to get some of the shopping out of the way. I really have no idea what to get him, what does an (almost) 6 month old play with, I don't remember?
LF sounds like you are coping brilliantly with all of that ! I think you will get Ollie sorted soon, sounds like you have a plan.
Christmas - nope hadn't thought about it! but it's so close
The BEST thing we ever got one of our babies for christmas was when DS2 was little, he was a June baby so not far off what these guys will be - was a Bumble Ball. It had plastic knobs all over it & vibrated - the idea was that you would turn it on & it would sort of bounce around on it's own, the knobs would make it jump randomly.
But he loved to lie on his tummy & hold it to his mouth, I have photos somewhere, so cute, he loved it.
LF - at the evil dictator! and poor you with DP hobbling around. i'm glad you mentioned a wonder week - i was wondering if we are having one as well. the chiro sounds good, do you think it did anything for the irritability? as for christmas...we haven't thought what we'll get for corey but DP's mum has bought clothes, books & a fisher price toy where you put the shapes through matching holes - does that make sense?! my parents have bought another fisher price toy - one with blocks for stacking. i guess we might get some similar things? some more books probably & some toys i guess - definitely a ball of some description? so hard when they're too young to know what's really going on!
jas - arlea sounds so cute, and funny! must be hilarious to watch!! did you manage to convince your DH to pull apart the cot?
jess - glad to hear that anton got the all clear at the doctors.
MamaPan - no 8 hours sleeps here either! did your moogoo arrive yet? i love ours - we have the scalp cream & the msm cream. enjoy your trip to the beach next week - sounds like we're going to have some nice weather on mon/tues (now i hope i'm remembering right & you're in melb!)
cate - 8hrs sounds fab! i hope zac makes it a regular thing for you! we have trouble getting corey to sleep as well - no matter how early he goes down, it usually seems to end in crying unless he feeds to sleep
jetta - hope those lovely long sleeps are continuing for you!
ss_storm - wtg hayley on the rolling! did she get a fright the first time she did it?
we're feeling much better here, thank you for all the get well wishes! i thought i was sleep deprived before i got sick but i felt so bad that i realised that i'd actually got used to less than 6 hours sleep a night & that i feel quite okay with that amount of sleep!
i'm not sure whether it's just because he's been sick or whether maybe a wonder week (although seems to be the wrong time for it?) but since last week corey is back to waking every 2 hours during the night. he still has a bit of a blocked/runny nose so maybe he just gets thirsty...but i'd be happy for him to go back to his first stretch of 5 or 6 hours each night! just when you think they're in a routine...
Probably don't have time for personals as at work and don't have internet at home yet! Moving was sooo busy! Half the house is done but the rest still in boxes! All Sams clothes are still in boxes!! Thanks for all your well wishes!
Sam lasted 10 days sleeping through and is now back to waking between 2 and 4am. Oh well, it was good while it lasted! He is now at the other end of the house during the night so I have the monitor on, he feels so far away!
My mother in law has been looking after him for 5 days so we could pack and move so I feel like I haven't seen him!
As for Christmas, I was thinking of getting the Fisher Price Jumperoo?? I think by 5 months his head support will be good for something like this. Would def be interested in hearing what others are getting too.
Sam much the same as you guys - getting better at tummy time and LOVES fist in his mouth!!
I have realised that he loves being rocked to sleep and I think he won't sleep now without being rocked. He isn't good at self settling at all. I must try once the move settles down.. Anyway, will try to write again soon!
Hope everyone is well!
mamapan - it is hard when dh goes away isn't it? Sounds like his next trip away will be easier for you to cope with - and you'll have some fun too! I will be interested to hear how the moogoo goes - Zac is fine except for a small patch of dry skin under one ear, but my skin has just turned to #$*@ since he was born - probably cos I'm washing my hands so often, although I've got patches of excema in all sorts of random places
jess - I hope Anton is more settled now? Sounds like it would have been a horrible night for you both.
jasp - sounds like you need to take a video of her 'travelling' - sounds hysterical! Zac manages to move himself around on his play mat, but always when I'm not watching, so I turn my head for a moment and when I look back he's 180 degrees different from where I left him! Maybe he's going to be a ninja... ;-)
Lauren - you are too funny! Aren't men pathetic when it comes to a bit of pain or an illness? I hope Ollie goes well with the probiotics - at the very least they can't do any harm. I reckon medical people are very keen to diagnose reflux for anything they can't explain. I've heard great things about baby chiros too.
God, Christmas!!! It's closer than most of our babies are old, iykwim. Frightening. I second Sarah - will probably just get books and developmental type toys, if we need to get anything once the doting grandparents have finished with him! Just looking forward to our first Christmas as a family.
Sarah - well, I might have boasted too soon as we haven't had any more 8 hour sleeps, but it does feel like he's getting the hang of 'night-time is for sleeping' (touch wood!) Isn't it interesting how we adapt to less sleep and more interruptions? I thought it would kill me, but now it seems pretty ok. I'll happily admit though that if it wasn't for the co-sleeping, especially early on, I think I would have gone insane with 1-2 hourly feeds during the night.
AFM - Zac FINALLY had his 8 week needles on Tuesday. He was very good - wasn't too impressed with the taste of the rotatec but was content to wash it down with a little BF, and hollered at the needles, but once they were over he gave the nurse the sweetest smile. Also saw the doctor to check his hips - she reckons they're ok but we're going for an ultra sound just to be completely certain. He didn't seem to have any adverse reactions - we had a very quiet afternoon afterwards with lots of cuddle time, but his sleep pattern didn't change at all and I didn't need to roll out the infant panadol. The nurse said that sometimes they react more to the next round ...
DH is very stressed at the moment with some nasty stuff happening at work and he is working insane hours, but has promised that he will work from home tomorrow as he has barely seen Zac awake all week :-(
Lol Jasp I agree with the others you need to film it! Hayley does it a little bit, usually when I am trying to put her nappy on...not easy when I use terry cloth nappies so she always ends up unfolding it Nappy changing and getting dressed is oh so fun now that she is moving around more. If I dress her on the floor (usually after a bath) she squiggles around all over the place and I have to keep rolling her onto her back!
I did a google for those bumble ball things, and all i got were dog toys! Lol. I know our dog would love to play with all the toys Hayley has I did find some in the US on ebay but they are so expensive, especially when you factor in the currency exchange. Do you know if they make them anymore?
I havent thought about christmas much, but it really is just around the corner. I think we are staying in Wagga this year, the last few years we have gone to my parents (6 hours away) or DF's mum's, was ok when she lived in Sydney but now she is in Mackay. Long way to travel with a baby!
I'm thinking about getting her some stacking blocks- saw some nice Peter Rabbit ones for sale in a Myers catalogue a while ago and meant to go down there and get them but I think i would have missed out by now!
LF - hope Ollie cheers up soon..Hayley has been cranky today too, she's on her 4th or 5th sleep of the day already! We did have an early start (well early for us anyway). She slept through until about 5.30 and while she didn't wake up at 5.30 she kept crying and grizzling in her sleep so i was up and down popping her dummy back in. At 6 I thought bugger it I'll just get her up and give her a feed, then of course she didn't want to go back to sleep! So it's felt like a long day today and it's only just lunch time!
Sloane - I dont think she scared herself when she rolled, she just finds it hard to roll off her tummy so gets a bit confused I think, she got herself there but is now stuck! She really tries hard though, straining her head/neck and making little grunts! Hope corey is back to normal soon and you can get some decent sleep!
Jetta- good luck with the house unpacking. I find I love packing things up but don't like unpacking and putting away! that's great your MIL is looking after Sam, I don't think you would ever get anything unpacked with a newborn! hayley only sleeps for about 40 mins at a time, so I race around then doing everything...great way to learn how to prioritise and become very efficient! Except for now when I'm on BB it must be so strange not having him around though.
Cate - the nurse told us that too, that they are more likely to have a reaction after their second lot of needles. Oh yay can't wait for that Not too far away either, I can't believe how fast they are growing up! We put Hayley in her bassinette this morning to see if she still fits (only just!) as we are going to my parents this weekend. I said to him it's hard to believe she used to only reach halfway!
Hope your DH has a relaxing weekend too...
AFM - going to my parents this weekend, my little brother goes back to boarding school on Sunday so thought it would be nice for him to see Hayley now that she is a bit older. He saw her the day after she was born but he had a horrible cold so I didn't want him holding her too much! Mum & dad came with it a couple of days after, but thankfully we escaped it. I was so worried that Hayley was going to get sick!
taking the dog with us, I'm sure he will love a weekend on the farm. And it's been miserable weather this week so I haven't taken him for a walk. He must be going mad in the yard, I know I'm fed up with being stuck inside!
Anyway better go try and get somet hings done before she wakes up again. Would be so nice if she slept longer...occasionally she will sleep for 1-2 hours (usually when she has fallen asleep on me after a feed and I put her in her rocker thinking she'll be awake in a few minutes or if I lay down with her on our bed and have a nanna nap!). Have a great weekend everyone, and I hope the weather is nicer!
hi everyone
just a quick post from me... jut put J in his basket for a sleep and rushing to get some lunch!
went back to the osteo this morning and there is def improvement in his neck but still compression. good to make progress though but think we will be there a few more weeks at least.
The moo goo arrived this morning and i put someof the excema balm on immediately - already the redness is gone.. wow. will try the MSM cream later too. so far i am impressed! want to find the scalp cream - might see if there are any stockists near us.
J is also having a bit of an unsettled week - i was wondering if it iwas a wonder week too - he is feeding 2 hrly overnight. eeek! makes for a tired mummy!
good to hear from everyone - will try to be on later and do some personals.
