I’ve been meaning to come in here and post for ages. That for some reason or other, I never seem to get around to it. This morning I said NOPE! I’m posting darn it!

OP – Still haven’t got B to his shots yet. Every time I have a day off he seems to have a fever Oh well. I am trying again for this Friday….with any luck.

Emma – I don’t really know what B is saying most of the time either. There are some thing that are pretty clear. Like I’ll be back. Or where did whatever go, that he happens to be looking for. Or all gone. But a lot of the other times it’s just a bit of a guessing game on my part. I usually make up something non-committal to say to him that acknowledges that I heard what he was saying, but that I don’t really understand.

The permanent marker. He keeps drawing all over himself. I’ve almost given up trying to get it off him. I went out the other day and bought him a whole heap of washable markers, but it’s like he knows and he doesn’t like drawing on himself with those ones I guess at least it’s just him (and the dogs) that he draws on and not the walls……could be worse!

I’m also sure it was you that asked ages ago what I did to keep B dry through the night. I wish I could tell you some profound thing that I thought of that was really clever and tricky, but truth be told, I have absolutely no idea. He just is. He has been, since he was about 8 or 9 months old. Not all the time but 90% of the time he’s dry through the night. I don’t do anything, I mean I still breastfeed him to sleep at night and 2-3 times during the night, so it’s not like he’s not drinking.

AFU – B is blowing bubbles underwater now!! YEAH! So excited about that. Well, I should say, when we’re at home and in the spa he does it all the time…has been for months. But he blew them for the first time in front of the instructor at swimming lessons on Saturday. It was all very exciting.

AND we went out on the weekend and bought him a new chest of drawers, to date all his clothes have been staked in milk cartons (I know how very organized of me) and I got sick of sorting through them all the time trying to find things…when I could actually find what I was looking for. So DH, B and I all went shopping yesterday and found a nice not too expensive dresser for him. Got it all put together yesterday while he was napping and stacked with all of his clothes.

Also got a bed rail for him when we were out. I am finally going to bite the bullet and put him into his big boy bed…..soon.

Morning ladies,

Must have been the weekend for furniture buying - we finally bought X a big boy bed!! Woo! So now we just need to get a mattress and we have everything - linen and bed rail already at home. Pity we don't have a room to move him in to

So that's the next task - clear out the spare room and make it into X's new room. Time to start thinking about decorations, yay!

Emma - much like Dr T, I just say something like "Is that right? Ok!" or if he's trying to say something specific I sometimes ask him to show mummy, or tell him to slow down, use his words. Sometimes that's all it takes for him to stop trying to spill out a full sentence and just give me one or two words that get the message across.

Not too bad all things considered. I’ve been exhausted. Way more so then what I remember being when I was pregnant with B. That having been said I wasn’t running around after a toddler last time either!

I’ve had some MS. But not very much….nothing compared to last time. Just a bit of nausea most mornings, and I’ve only vomited a couple of times. And even all that didn’t start till last week. I am feeling a bit icky today, but so far as long as I have something to nibble on I’ve been okay…mostly

But all in all, I’ve been feeling really good. Which is a massive change from last time around when I was just sick all the time.

That's great about the nausea!!! I really hope it continues to be not as bad as it was last time, boy you had it tough!

Go gently with yourself - someone had to point this out to me when I was pg with X - you are now sustaining three life forms. Your baby gets first pick of all the nutrients you take in, then your breastmilk gets second pick and sadly your body gets whatever crummy scraps are left over! Add to that the fact that you are growing a new being, chasing a toddler and working - it is no wonder you are exhausted.

Sleep when B sleeps, use your sick leave, make DH do more... just try and cut yourself some slack.

I do have to say that DH has been really fantastic though with the dishes and laundry and general house cleaning. It’s been really good, apart from cook and chase after B I’ve really not had to do anything.

Hi! I've just started posting on BB, so thought I'd mark my place on this thread.

My little man (I call him Rhino online) just turned 19 months last week - he was born 13th July, 2010. His language has just EXPLODED in the last few weeks, not just in saying new words or small sentences, but also words he's been saying for a long time have become so much more clear.

He loves being outside, loves big muscle play and loves water. We have to make sure he gets lots of play in those ways each day, otherwise he really has issues with sleeping or settling down.

He's our first, and most probably our only. It took us a long time to have him (and miraculously he came without any intervention, after a multitude of different things being used to try and get us pregnant); and we're just delighted to have him in our lives.

I still breastfeed him; he rocks out in the Ergo most days (if he's not walking somewhere); we use MCNs and if he wakes overnight we co-sleep so we can all get more sleep...

Sounds like your little man is much loved What sort of MCNs is he in? My two are (were in DD's case, she is toilet trained now) in cloth as well. There's a whole section on here devoted to the love of cloth, have you found that section too?

We also love our Ergo! Do you do back carry with Rhino? I find DS (also 19mths) loves the back carry position but I haven't quite worked out how to get him in there easily yet.

My little man has become very cheeky in the last week or so. His new favourite word/phrase is "WHY?" Everything is WHY??? I say "X, come and get your shoes on" and he says "Why?" I say "Because it's time for us to go now" and he says "Why?!"

He's also gone back into tantrum mode, after we thought we'd passed the worst of it! I tried to tell him he's not 2 yet but he didn't listen

DD has just turned 3 so we are planning a party for Sunday... keeping us very busy. DS got very confused with all her presents yesterday, he kept trying to open them and I'd say "No, X, these are DD's" and he'd say "Why?" I'd say "Because it's her birthday" and he'd say, yep, you guessed it, "Why?" and then have a tantrum when I prevented him from ripping the paper!!! Ahh fun and games.

Feeling really well. I get tired really quickly, but generally go to sleep when I put B to bed.
MS has been almost absent. I had a week where I was pretty nauseous, and vomited a couple of times but nothign at all compared to how I was with B.

Have my first scan on Wed afternoon so am really looking forward to that!

Aww thanks - looking forward to getting to know you too. Rhino is cracking me up at the moment - he finishes his water bottle/cup of rice milk and he puts it straight onto the table, looks right into my eyes, cue big smile and 'get more'...

Rhino is in a few - I've used quite a lot. We use Itti Bitti AIOs and BBH MagicAll smooth for when he's at Childcare (1 day/week); and then the rest of the time it's a mix of BBH Petites, Baby Chilli & Minky Baby. If I had my time over, I'd probably just have the BBH Petites & the Baby Chilli/Minky Baby. I love them so much...

I've been meaning to do back carry for MONTHS; I really should get into it. I just forget until we're out and don't want to risk a fall when I don't know what I'm doing.

I don't get a 'why' yet - just 'what dis?' ad nauseum. It's cute, but not so much after 300+ times of 'what dis' in a day...


I'm still finding my way around, so hopefully I'll see people in various spots...

I have B in MCN's as well. Most of mine are Abby Gro, but I do have an odd assortment of others.

That's funny about Rhino doing the big baby eyes and smile and then the get more.

B cracks me up when he's ready for bed. Never fails. He walks over an pats me just about the breast, gives me the cutest smile then nods his head. As if to say….yup…it's boob juice time…bring it on!

The other one he's big on at the moment is 'I be back'. While holding up his first finger and thumb. He's also started turning around after his 'I be back' holding his hand up and telling me to 'stay back'. I suspect I might say that too often to the dogs

Isn't it funny Dr T when you hear your words repeated back at you???

I think part of the reason DS says "Why?" so often is because DD says it all the time too! She says it with meaning though... eg "DD, come and put your shoes on please", she says "Why mum?" I say "Because it is time to go" and she'll say "Ok, I'll just be there in a minute", whereas DS responds with "Why?" again Doesn't quite get it!

Muraho, that's great that your childcare will do cloth nappies. Mine just went "Err, no." TBH, the reduction in washing is actually quite nice Don't tell me cloth nappy shop owning friend that plesae!!!

Dr T, that's fantastic that you aren't feeling as sick. Wonderful!

How cute about the booby? I've weaned DS now but before we stopped, he used to put his hand down my top and say "Booby". It was very cute

Hey girls. Haven't posted for a while, thought it was about time! Did a bit of stalking of our most reliable posters (ie Dr Tal and OP)...

OP - Congratulations on the exciting news I read in another thread. I'm going to see if I can skip work that Monday you mentioned you'll be in SEQ. Gotta see if I'm needed in the lab, but if not it would be great to meet you in person, put a face to the name!

Dr Tal - read your post about your traumatic labour/birth/post-birth complications. I'd forgotten how scary things were for you and I can only imagine the combination of emotions you're going through now! Have you considered a home birth this time around? On a happier note, I was glad to read your scan went well!

Muraho - nice to "meet" you. Hope to hear from you again in here!

AFU - no pregnancy announcements here, lol. Things are getting much better on the sleep front! Was away from DH on and off for a couple of weeks and that helped T & I to evolve to a different routine. Bedtime is now much more variable in terms of the actual time, and could be up to 10.30pm. That's my limit when I decide it's too bad if he still doesn't seem tired! T's been sleeping in till 7am a lot since we've been letting him stay up later, and only crying out in his sleep a once or twice a night when he needs a sheet or the fan on. Hopefully now that I've written about it, it won't all come apart again like has happened before!

T's starting to copy (or at least attempt) words much more now which is fun. He's still inconsistent with s and k sounds but doing really well. He even tried "butterfly" the other day. He got three syllables and the b sound at the start right. lol. He LOVES counting books. Previously all numbers were eight, but now they're nine. But he'll try to say the proper name after we say it, mostly.

It's just so amazing watching him learn to talk.

He's so cheeky at swimming. I feel like I must be a terrible parent when he won't do the prescribed activities or go to the instructor without crying and reaching out for me. But he loves jumping into the pool and "swimming" a couple of feet under the water to me. Can't get him to do swapping arms though!

He also loves jumping off things like stairs, washing machines, tables. At the moment it's only if I'm there to catch him. Hopefully he maintains that sense of self-preservation...

Anyway, I'm off to hang out clothes and go to bed. Good night y'all.

OceanPrincess - LOL definitely interesting to hear B repeat back at me…but he always seems to manage his own little spin on it which never fails to crack me up.

Like the other day when he got his shots. He can get really excited at times and will often fling things around. And I am forever telling him he needs to be careful with mummy because that hurt and mummy doesn't like to be hurt…..I'm sure you can see where this is going. So the woman gives him his first shot and after she's done he pokes his hand out at her and says "stop, no hurt Brock, mummy no like hurt" If I wasn't so upset at him being so upset about his shots I think I'd have burst out laughing. He just looked at the lady so indignant, and even with tears streaming down his face he still had it together enough to parrot back at her.

I have to go stalk OP now…..see what her exciting news is…you've got me all curious!

I actually have considered home birth. But so far DH is a no go on that one. All he can rememeber is B not breathing and me almost bleeding out and he's dead set I need to be in a hospital in case it happens again. Which I can kind of understand, but at the same time I wonder if it would have happened at all if I'd not had all the interventions….I just don't know.

Sounds like you might have a bit of a bed routine worked out for T now. it stays good even though you have written about it.

I've noticed there are heaps of sounds B can't actually make, which makes it so cute when he says certain words. Because you know what he's saying, but it's just not quite right. Like he doesn't make a t sound. So water is wada and stop is sop.

Had to laugh at T and all the numbers being 9. B counts to three, but instead of one two three go, he wo (two) wo (two) he (three) go.

Don't feel bad about T crying out an reaching out for you in swimming. Probably 80% of the kids at B's swimming class don't like the instructor takig them off their parents. So I think it's quite common.

I'm so glad you're getting some sleep wins with T. You must be feeling a bit relieved. Is it continuing? Sometimes I find when it is just the three of us we work things out better than when DH is there, don't know why that is!

I was in the water with X this week at swimming, usually DH is but for reasons unknown to me (we were having an ongoing cold war type fight... ) I ended up taking him, he loves swimming. Just starting to jump in on his own, it's really good to see. I'm hoping this week at Sea World (or 5 days as it is actually) will help build up his confidence. We are planning on hitting Sea World in the mornings, then maybe after sleep time we'll spend some time in the pool at the resort. I'm hoping the weather will be on our side!!

Dr T - how are you doing? I hope writing your "real" birth story helped somewhat...

I'm mostly loving this age, all the cute things they do. Except X seems to have regressed to tantrums again! Argh! This morning we got up and as usual I'm making toast for brekkie, he wanted juice. He never gets juice in the morning. Sometimes at dinner, but never brekkie. For some reason he demanded juice. I said no, he had a tantie. Then proceeded to put his toast in his cup Funny boy.

Hoping this little break up to Queensland will be beneficial for all of us - a break away from all our stress down here.

B has started with tantrums a bit lately. It’s certainly frustrating. AND he’s started the biting again. He took to biting my leg over the weekend. Was SO not impressed. Will Definitely need to work to get him past that one again.
