Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
Andie, I just got a couple of those big colored plastic bucket things with handles from Bunnings. Her toys are out in the dining area on a big mat because she can't get into her room if I have the baby gate closed (it's via the kitchen) But her room does have one of those shelves with the wicker baskets in the holes for other bits and pieces. A toy box would be best, but they are a bit pricey I have noticed. especially if you buy a good one.
Vic, I know how you feel with the dog! DD tries to ride ours
It seems dd is counting to 10! I almost ran off the road when she did it in the car  I counted to 5 and she just continued. She doesn't do it all the time and sometimes she misses numbers etc. But I had no idea this could happen at this stage, so proud of my liitle chicken :) A local mobile petting zoo was at her daycare last week and they told me she was hugging the goats and sheep and kissng all the animals hahaha she loves animals.
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
jeepers, you're dd is a clever little thing. ds pretends to count things things but just says 'twoooo' for everything, not sure if its an actual 'two' bc he says that when he's pretend talking/concentrating/busy.. ;-)
he is saying a few more words now, does a pretty mean 'grandpa' atm which is very cute. :-)
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
Haha twooooo. It's probably the first number he has picked up up easily, the others will be right around the corner. I have done a bit of counting with her at home, but I figure it's mostly daycare. I did install a counting app on my phone ages ago that she picked up on really quick, maybe it helped. It's called 'toddler counting' and it's really simple and easy to play. They just count and touch the items on the screen and they fade as they touch them so they can keep track of the items they have counted. It's really good I'd recommend it :) All those Fisher price apps are rubbish.
It's funny, all these things I have said or done with her and I thought she didn't understand. But then they surprise you like that! Love it :)
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
we count & practise colours, but honestly - he just doesn't seem interested! he'll point out cars, and I'll say colours. but he's not interested in repeated the colours, unless it's silver bc dh's car is silver! and if he sees a black car, he will say 'mumma', bc my car is black. they really are clever, even though the language may not be keeping up with their brain. ;-)
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
Jacks words are slowly coming in. I find more and more new words, but i have to pay attention otherwise I dont understand them lol. He babbles a lot but has starting using his words.
We are going camping for Easter. I cant wait as we all need a break. Thats of course if it is a break taking a toddler away. Last year he was only sitting so would stay on a big carpet square we bought with us. This time its going to be interesting as he is very mobile. Last time he was in his portacot and this time will be sleeping on a bottom bunk in our caravan. I will be taking the cot just in case he gets too mobile in the van and wont sleep. The portacot takes up the whole floor space in the van so we are really hoping he stays in the bed. DH is rigging up a barrier for the bunk so he doesn't roll out. He has not fallen out of bed I find he is more often than not, wedged up against the wall.
We are looking into buying a newer van as our old girl is a 1978 model and well loved. We are thinking of a second hand Jayco Flamingo. I have to think of having a big boy one day so he will need room. No point in getting one with the fold down lounge as I want this van to last a long time. I never camped as a child of a single mum, but DH spent a lot of time camping when he was a child and has very fond memories and I want DS to have lots of fun times.
We are off to Bali in May and we are soooo excited. 12 nights :) Our last trip overseas was our honeymoon in Fiji 4 years ago so this will be a completely new experience with a toddler. They have great baby club facilities if I feel comfortable using them. I think I will see how we go. It would be nice to have a few moments to ourselves and he will miss being in daycare but not too sure on how I will feel using carers that I dont know. Silly really as he has been in care since 18 weeks with people I didn't know at the time :)
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
good point, vic. Ds does come out with new words but sometimes I just assume it's one of his usual words, then realise 10 mins later what he was actually trying to say. :-)
sounds like you have some fun holiday time planned, good luck with the caravan!
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
Hi :) Hope everyone had a good Easter break.
Vic, I can totally understand not feeling comfortable with carers on your trip. Yes you leave them in care here in OZ, but over there it's a different standard of rules and regulations. I would be freaking a bit too!
Andie, lol about the silver car. It's funny how some totally irrelevant things just fascinate them. Hows the sleep going? And the pregnancy?
All is well here. Realized dd is now a size 5/6 shoe. Made me a bit sad actually  :( And now I buy size 2 clothes! The big thing at the moment is all her friends names at daycare. There's 4 kids names she says and her 2 favorite carers. When we drive past the center she yells 'daycare!' it makes me laugh :)
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
easter was good for us, pretty low key but lots of chocolate. ds is obsessed with it atm, poor thing never stood a chance when his mum is a chocoholic.
tasha - sleep is going mostly well, still have a couple of nights a week where ds will wake at around 3am. last night was 8pm-6am though, which was great. pregnancy is going well, getting bigger (obviously) and only complaint is a sore back from lifting ds too much. ds is in a size 5 shoe too, he has big feet even though he's a weenie! he got called a girl 3 times yesterday, by 3 different people in the street. three!! he doesn't look like a girl. he was dressed in blue (not that this matters these days), shoes with cars on (again, doesn't matter..) - but still. when i say 'boy', they always apologise & tell me that he looks too 'pretty'. :o
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
LOL Andie! Does he have long hair or something??? I always have to put pink on DD because her hair is still short and fluffy so people think shes a boy. So I understand your frustration! I know millions of women do it, but what will happen when you are further along in the pregnancy and you can't lift your ds anymore? I couldn't even imagine trying to lift out of the cot, onto the change table, the car etc. I could barely move at the end of my pregnancy
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
Andie its so lovely to hear your all big and pg :) I smiled when I read that your getting bigger :)
Easter here went amazingly. DS loved camping and getting in and out of the van was such fun for him. He slept well although I struggled a bit to get him to sleep as it was not his normal dark room but I ended up laying down with him on our double bed and when he fell asleep transferred him into his single bed. I have never co-slept with him and actually really loved it. He went to sleep within 5 minutes every time so it was no issue and I was wondering how he would go when we got home, but he was fine about going to sleep in his bed at home by himself. Thank goodness.
Size 5 here too. And starting to buy a few size 2 things although DS has short little legs like me and a long body so we need the longer tops and still size 1 pants. Its always been the same the whole way through. He still wears some 0 pants. Some shorts are 9-12 months lol. Definately getting our value out of our clothes here :)
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
tasha - well, I haven't cut his hair yet... so it's a bit longer than most boys I guess but it's a bit curly at the back so not long, long. although dh's family keep telling me he has a mullet & I should shave it like his younger cousins parent have. :-/
lifting him in to his cot atm is getting a bit heavy, but only bc we have a cuddle then I scoop him up from the floor holding him like a baby to put him in his cot. I'll have to transition to having a cuddle sitting in a chair & then pop him in so he can lie down himself.
thanks, vic. :-) it's still a bit of a surprise each time I catch myself in the mirror, but it makes me smile too. xx
glad the caravan worked, it is lovely getting those little cosleeping cuddles. didn't think I would be a parent that would like it so much... always planned on keeping ds in his bed at all times but I kinda got lazy & he comes in somewhere around 3-6am every morning! I hear you on the clothes, shorts are just ridiculous (how big they are). ds was in 3-6 mths shorts this summer. I think he's progressed to 6-12mths now, bit they're quite roomy.,;-)
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
happy mother's day, ladies. :-)
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
Happy belated Mother Day :)
It actually feels like mums day today for me since yesterday we flew to Adelaide and DS was not exactly fun to travel with. Finally fell asleep on the plane thank goodness.
Having a routine is awesome except when you have to do different schedules. Sleep is so important to DS and its hard when he doesn't get his normal amount. Having said that he has had a big sleep last night and seems happy today. We fly to Bali this afternoon and am not looking forward to the whole airport waiting I customs and the 5 hour flight. Hopefully we can burn up some energy this morning.
Hope all the babies are well x
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
my little boy loves his routines too, doesn't cope when it's changed.
have a great time in Bali, hope ds surprises you with sleeping on the plane. ;-)
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
Happy mothers day too :)
Have a nice trip Vic. Dd is terrible without a decent nap, it's screaming and tantrums all afternoon.
I had my gallbladder taken out last week. All went well, but I have this sudden sharp pain now so I'm getting it checked out. Just when I started to feel good and pain free :( I haven't been able to pick dd up at all and playtime has been minimal. So this is really upsetting me :(
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
hope you're feeling ok today, marley&me (cute name change!). fingers crossed for a speedy recovery. xx
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
Thanks Andie, I love that movie :)
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
how is everyone, quiet in here... :-)
DS is going through another rough patch of sleeping. He's been waking at 2-3am. Last night was 1am. I need to be resettling him back in his bed, but dh & I are so tired we just bring him in to our bed. He's got a snuffly nose, but nothing serious so I don't think it's illness.
He's getting finicky at meal times too. Pushes his bowl away (regardless of what it is) and says 'no'. I just start eating my own while he wriggles & mucks around in his high hair. Then I spoon feed him afterwards, which he then eats about half of whatever it is. Maybe just an independence thing?
Speech is still progressing quite slowly & I've noticed a lot of the sounds sound similar, a lot of 'ba', 'pa', 'oo', 'da' sounds. And still just one word sentences. He talks to himself sometimes when he's playing/going to bed, but it's "mum? no. dadda? no. maa? (grandma). no". I don't know, guess I'm waiting for it to just all of a sudden come along. Trying not to worry too much, but it's something I'm thinking about atm.
