Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
Hi Girls
We are back from Bali and it was an amazing Trip. I feel like DS has grown so much in those 2 weeks. His speech is really coming along and he can repeat most words back to me now. He chats away all the time and I have to remember to listen to him. He says "Hi Mum" all the time :) That and "Yee Har" with his arm in the air doing circles pretending to lasso something. Its so cute. He can say so much now. We are working on colours at the moment.
Bali was amazing and just what our family needed. Jack went into care 4 times over there and they were amazing. They even did stage shows for the parents and I bawled like a baby seeing him up there in costume. I was spotted almost at the end and he cracked it and wanted me so I had to go get him off the stage but I didn't mind. We worked on his swimming and water issues and by the end of the trip was comfortable in the water and ended up enjoying it. Too bad its too cold to go swimming.
He was the king of the resort and all the ladies loved him and smothered him in kisses and cuddles every time we went to the restaurant which was three times a day. He would walk up the stairs and usually 5 women fought over him to be chosen to carry him to our table. He would hug them all. So very cute.
The plane ride over was good. We were able to stretch out as the plane was half full and he got his own seat. On the way home he was a bit fussy but I put that down to my DH being fussy and DS reacting to his moodiness at returning back home. Funny how kids can pick up on grumpy energy.
DS has been back at child care for over a week. While he was away 2 of him best friends turned 2 and have been moved up to the next room. The team leader of his room came up to me yesterday and said Jack was having a sad day. She said he has been very quiet and not really getting involved as much. She said she thinks its because the other 2 boys have gone up and she will try and sent him to the next room for a few visits. My baby has friends...YAY!!! I was sad to think he was sad and I know he is not loving being in childcare since we came back but this is our life and I have to work.
Sleep has been going well. Still having a 2.5 hour sleep from 12.30pm and goes to bed at 7.15pm and wakes around 6.30am - 7.00am. I dont normally have to get up to him unless its just to cover him up and straighten him up in the bed. Still using a dummy :( Not that it really bothers me, only when he insists on it when not in bed.
Toilet training has been on my mind although I wont be starting for a while. Its not something I look forward to doing. I get holidays in October so may try then or just wait till xmas break. I dont want to start too early, however he hates having his nappy changed. Its quite the ordeal to get him to lay down on the change table.
Andie - 30 weeks ??? Yay for you. I am quietly stalking you :)
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
vic, that holiday sounds great. jack sounds like he had an awesome time, hope you got lots of photos! my ds sucks his fingers, I guess at least when your jack is ready, or when you decide you can take the dummy away? not sure how I will go getting ds to stop sucking his fingers... guess he will grow out of it eventually.
31 weeks this Friday. Feeling huge & tired. Ds is not helping, waking at 1.30. Tried to resettle him for an hour in his bed, but he just wanted to be with us so he ended up in our bed. Normally I would just go with it, but I'm stressing that it will become a habit now. I'm so tired & need to sleep, and I can't have ds & the new baby in with me... can I?!
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
Hi ladies :) Hope you are well!
All is good here, growing up so fast. Can't believe it has almost been 2 years!!
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
I know, it's crazy... we will have 2 year olds very soon. Bought ds a scooter today, he was pretty excited & he seems to have picked it up quite quickly. Must buy a helmet asap! :-)
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
Its Jacks last day in the Nursery today. Next Monday he goes into the Toddler room ....where has that time gone??? How do we suddenly have toddlers? I still call him a baby lol.
Everything is going well here. Just cruising along. In our routine of work/day care and home Friday, Saturday & Sundays. His speech has really taken off and its so much nicer to be able to understand him. We have had a few attitude moments but a minute sitting on his bed seems to work (for now anyway).
We are having an afternoon tea on Saturday for his birthday. Nothing too fancy. Work has been super busy and to be honest I really cant be bothered but am making the effort. I know it will be fun on the day.
Happy Birthday to all the Bubbas x
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
How's Jack going in toddler room, settled in ok? We are getting attitude too. Is jacks mostly frustration? Ds's does the swiping his toys across the floor yelling and flipping himself around atm. Gets worse if we ask him if he needs help, or god forbid jump in and help!
We put ds in s toddler bed before baby was born. He loves it. His little face when he saw his new bed was priceless.[emoji3]
Ds loves the baby so far, always wanting to kiss & 'carry' him. It's just adorable. [emoji173]️
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
Jacks behaviour has gotten a lot better since his sleeping has improved. A couple of days before his birthday he started waking at 5am and this carried on for a few weeks and it almost killed me. Now we have him sleeping till 6.30am and only waking because we are up and about. Thank god for the Gro Clock! Best invention ever! Potty training has started and so far so good. Was really dreading it but since I have started just going to get on with it.
Andie - your boys sound so adorable. I assume your new bubba has a name now? Boys names are hard. So lovely to hear DS loves his toddler bed.
I am loving this age.
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
Am I the only one without a toddler bed yet? I am milking the cot for as long as possible hahaha. If I put her in a bed I will have to put a baby gate up at her bedroom door otherwise she may sneak out and get into things. What do you guys do bout that?
Also she doesn't sleep when I put her down, it's usually around 9-9:30pm by the time she falls asleep. And she's in her cot singing and chatting or just laying there until then. If I had a bed I assume she would just get straight out and play with her toys. Do your kids do this???
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
Jack goes pretty much straight to sleep. I really thought he would roam around but he just rolls around the bed if it takes him a while to fall asleep. He used to kick the wall :( I had stopped using sleeping bags but decided he was getting cold so have been using one the last few weeks. It converts to a sleep suit so has legs if you want. I keep it as a bag and he stays in bed in the morning. He used to get out of bed and knock on his door. We have roller shutters so its pitch black in there but now the gro clock has a bit of a light which is handy as he finds his dummy if he needs.
I have read a recommendation on keeping bubs in a cot till 3 years of age so plenty of time Tasha.
So far so good with potty training. He even did a number 2 in his potty.
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
Vic - no name yet, but very close! [emoji6]
I saw those gro clocks and wondered if they'd work for ds. He still wakes at 5/5.30am, comes in to our bed & then it's 50/50 whether he goes to sleep again. We stopped using bags too but we dress him in leggings, jumpy without legs & flannelette pjs over the top. He also has a bar heater in his room set to low. And his doona, obviously. Ds used to knock too, hilarious! But now he can open the door... [emoji52]. Made his way out to lounge room before dh could get to his room last night. Today at lunch nap time I heard him talking to himself (usually yells out for me when he wakes). He had climbed out, got a book, climbed back in & was 'reading'! [emoji1]
Nice work on the potty training... it sounds s bit too easy...??
Tasha - we only went to toddler bed bc I knew I'd have to have c sect & I couldn't lift ds in/out for naps. I was lucky in that he loved it. We have a monitor so can hear if he's up & about. Except for last night... but I'll just turn monitor up. I am contemplating baby gate for hallway so he can't roam around. We still stay with ds until he's asleep, so prevents him from jumping out. I would love to be able to pop him in to bed & have him go to sleep by himself... maybe in another year or so?!
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
Vic, well done on the potty training :) I have given up because I just have so much going on right now. But hopefully by the time she is 3 we will have it.
Andie, 5am would bloody kill me. I am not a morning person lol. A gate at the hallway sounds like a great idea, we can also do that in this house actually. Can't believe you are almost due!!
We still use a bag at night, it keeps her warm. But think she's a hot sleeper anyway because I only put her in a long sleeve body suit and flannel pj's with the bag and she's fine (and we are in freezing Melbourne!). Some nights she is fighting the bag though so after winter is finished we will stop using it.
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
I'm not a morning person either, some mornings are pretty rough!
I should have updated in here, but I've had the baby! A little early bc I developed cholestasis (liver problem), so he was born at 37+2, 2.8 kgs. Home & doing well. [emoji6]
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
Oh big congratulations Andie!! :) I haven't been on the forum for a while so didn't have a clue  Glad you and bubs are ding well :happydance:
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
Toilet training is going really well. I am pretty surprised actually. Only one accident over the weekend and it was not really his fault. We were out at a local petting zoo thing and i washed his hands after he was feeding the animals and the cold water must have triggered a wee :( Poor DS was horrified and started crying. I had spare clothes in the car so cleaned him up and carried on. DH was a bit stressed but I said its nothing to get stressed over and just relax. At least it was outside and it had been raining so no no one noticed a bit of moisture on the dirt lol. Apart from that no other accidents. At child care he had one late Thursday afternoon and this morning when I mentioned he accident at the petting zoo the educator said DS accident Thursday was while he was washing his hands too. Mental note - cold water triggers a wee lol
He is so proud to use the potty and has to run up to whoever is not taking him to the potty and tell us. Its super cute. Number 2's have not been an issue either.
Now I find his pants falling down as no nappy to keep them up lol.
Andie- whats it like being a parent to two bubbas? I guess you have a name by now :)
Marley&Me - Hope DD is well :)
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
Lol at the washing hands, vic! He sounds like he was really ready to do it if he's taken to it so well. Did he show many signs or did you just decide to try it & see how he went?? I would live to tt my little guy that quickly & relatively effortlessly.
It's great being parent of 2. Defiantly more tv watching going on atm as all I do is feed and settle do ds1 gets bored/ant in his pants bc we aren't getting out as much. The baby is fine, ds1 is the tiring one atm. He's waking at 3am every night again now. Then the baby wakes at 4am. Wakes ds1 bc ds1 will be in our bed by then. Then it's just a crazy, tired mess until I can get baby down again. If we are lucky we get another hour sleep, if not dh gets up with ds1 at 6am. It's busy, but doable [emoji6]. We just decided the name a couple days ago! I think you in particular would approve [emoji6].
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
Oooohhh. Thats so exciting Bubba has a name :)
Sorry to hear about your getting up so early. That would be pretty hard to do every day. I always wondered how the toddler got on while the baby is being fed and settled. Perhaps things will get easier when the weather is warmer and you can get outside to burn off his energy. Have you thought about daycare for DS1? I know your not going to work (your still working at home more than you would at work) but it might be nice for DS1 to have play days at a centre. One of our mums at baby group just had a new DD and her DS goes to childcare 3 days a week. He was already in daycare and she said he was so used to it and would be bored at home. She said its lovely to have one on one time with her DD.
As for TT DS I had a potty near his bath and would sit him on it every night before his bath but nothing ever happened. It was two weeks ago when he got up and said "potty" and i took him thinking nothing would happen and he did his first wee. So i just went with it. I was not planning to try properly till at least late spring but thought this window of opportunity may not come again so we have just rolled with it. He always used to tell me when he had done a poo and then started telling me when he did a wee so I think he was ready before me lol. He had an accident yesterday at childcare. He always does a wee when he gets up from his sleeps but he didn't do one yesterday and then they didn't check so had an 15 minutes after he got up. Just a timing thing really. They had different girls on the floor yesterday so he probably doesn't feel comfortable with them. He was telling the Monday girls when he needed to go but they are the regular girls. Thank god for combustion heater and getting things dry lol. The worst is washing the shoes. They take ages to dry.
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
Hadn't though about shoes...! I can see why summer would be better to tt. He has done so well, out of nappies at 2 years old is amazing. I'd love ds1 to be tt, not enjoying his pooey nappies atm [emoji52].
I've thought about daycare but didn't want ds1 bringing home colds/flus to ds2. We go to gymbaroo & music class so he gets out, I just don't get s break!
Re: Babies Born ~ July 2013 #2
It must be exhausting to have two littles ones 24/7. I take my hat off to you. Its a lot to be a perky parent all the time. I see all the activites they do at daycare and think there is no way I could do that at home. And I understand about bringing home sickness. Ds was horrid for months after he started daycare. Since he turned 2 and gone into the toddler room its been a lot better.
TT is going well. I wouldn't say he is trained but we are getting there. Still having an accident every couple of days. All concentration timing. He gets so busy. I still keep asking him. Usually he says no lol.
