Merry Christmas and happy new year! Hope everyone enjoyed the break.
Yes, we have way too much stuff in our tiny home now! Dd's pink electric quad bike is her fave, she flicks the switch and revs the pedal while standing up on it, it's hilarious We went to the local pool yesterday and put her in her floaty in the big pool with us. She loves the water, but have only been to the beach once. Not a fan of no trees and sand everywhere. Need to get a proper floaty vest too.
Has anyone started toilet training yet? My mum says me and my brother were trained at 2 yrs old. I'm not sure I can see that happening. She will sometimes tell me 'pooooohs' while waving her nose which I used ti always say. But not very often. What do you do?
I will be leaving the toilet training until spring. I have noticed the boys in our family take a bit longer to train than the girks so we wont be rushing into it. I would rather wait a few months and make it a painless journey for us both. I am not looking forward to it. The next thing on our list will be a big bed for his birthday. I am looking forward to designing a big boy room for him.
I just went and bought Jack some summer pj's as his ones from last summer obviously dont fit lol. I ended up with a size 2 and shopping in the boy section. It felt so weird not to be in the baby section. Sigh...where did my bubba go....
Hah Vic, yes we are now shopping in the girls section instead of the baby. And I am sad that she is moving into the next room ad daycare She absolutely adores one of the workers in her room, says her name all the way there. It will be so sad!
Jack doesn't go up until his birthday. I love the girls he has now too but the girls in the toddler room all used to be in the nursery so they know him and are lovely girls. Jack will start transition a few months before his birthday. I said to the girls it will be interesting when he goes from his cot to a pallet bed. I thought they would all mess around but she said they are all good and go straight to sleep. She said that Jack is a good sleeper so should not be any trouble. Better them than me lol. The toddler room and the kindy room do a lot together and share play areas. I think he will love it. They have a lot of tiny babies in the nursery at the moment and a few of the kids older than him have already started transition. So he is one of the older bubbbas. He gets to do jobs with them which he loves. Since he has been there since 18 weeks they all feel like he is part of the furniture lol.
Oh that's good he sleeps well on the floor mats. I asked about this because for the last 2 weeks they have been trying to get dd to sleep on them, but she rarely will. They said they will just bring her into the babies room for sleeps in a cot until she is comfortable to use a mat. They also don't usually have trouble transitioning to a mat, so it's just my stubborn dd! It is this year they will move her, but they have to make sure she is ready and they also move them in little groups so they still have familiar faces
Also we are nowhere near ready for a big girl bed. Gawd she would just get out and stuff around in her room if we did! Our cot converts to a toddler bed so it's there when we need anyway.
Had a few suggestions from well-meaning relatives about toilet training here too. I am in no hurry. Having two in nappies is no biggie to me. I don't think she's ready yet, sometimes she will get a clean nappy when she's done poos, but not every time. Haven't thought about a "big girl bed" yet either. I am sure she would just run amok instead of sleeping! She's actually still in our room too so we'll tackle the hurdle of moving her to her own room before we attempt the big bed.
peeks - to answer you question, im feeling tired atm. i think ds might be doing that 18mth sleep regression thing a tad early. he is waking most nights (usually around 3-4am), coming in to our bed, fussing around for an hour, going to sleep for another hour & then he's up for the day. siiigh. im due august 8 but will probably be a week earlier as I will have to have a scheduled c section. I had a little giggle at your toilet training post. my mum reckons I was toilet trained by 12 month. as were my sister & brother. we were all a year apart... so 3 under 3 years... all toilet trained by 12 months...??! I think she might be embellishing a little. my little one is still in our room too, don't worry! how does it work having ruby in there too? do they wake each other?
Tasha - I haven't thought about toilet training yet either really. I mean ive thought about it. as in I don't want to do it! im a bit concerned about how ill go with a newborn & toilet training (perhaps) next year, but I guess ill just see what happens. sometimes when we change our son, we will ask him 'you got any wee's? where's your wee's?!', before we take the nappy away & sometimes he does a wee! same goes in the bath too, although I think its a reflex when his legs hit the warm water - he wee's.
vic - we are just scrapping in at size 12-18 months... so technically I still get to shop in the baby section, but not for long. although I guess ill get to do it all over again soon. your ds's childcare sounds nice, I bet he loves it there.
afm - not much going on after the Christmas/new year excitement. actually, there was no excitement on new years, i went to bed at 11pm. ds is doing well, apart from the sleep thing. we have been at my sisters this past week and he has loved playing with his 2.5 year old cousin. he was even starting to learn how to get annoyed when she took things off him! usually he just stands there confused, then wanders off to play with something else... i think he's a lover, not a fighter!
Isn't it funny how parents always say we did everything so early compared to kids these days? Mind you it was 32 years ago for my mum so maybe her memory is a bit rusty lol. I would expect 2.5-3 for toilet training to be established, but who knows how it will go.
My BFF daughter was a nightmare to toilet train. She only started going number 2's at 4.5 years in the toilet. She would hold on for days and then my BFF would put a nappy on her and wait for the explosion. If she didn't put the nappy on she would find them any where. Behind the cubby, in the vegie patch, under her bed. It was pretty gross. My sisters however had no real drama's, so hoping to be like them.
How tall are the bubbas? Jack is 81.5cm and weighs 10.9 kilo. We weighed and measured him yesterday being 18 months old.
Jack is sleeping well so I hope he doesn't have the 18 month sleep regression. The 4.5 month one was a shocker for us. He sleeps through then night most nights and wakes between 7.30am and 8.00am. It used to 6.00am to 7.00am but since we have had xmas and been on break from daycare he has been sleeping in. Maybe because the house is quiet as we have been sleeping in too.
Jack has his 18 month immunisation on Friday. Not looking forward to it. They said they will do his 18 month old check up. I think I will take him back to CAHFS for it and not worry about the doctor filling in his blue book. I think the CAHFS nurses here know more than the drs do. Last time they gave me work sheets to complete on his progress.
Andie, sorry you're having some problems with early morning wake-ups. I hope they are short lived and he's back to his usual sleeping.
Funny the way our parents remember our childhood. My Mum said my sister and I were good as gold. I say she's looking back through rose-coloured glasses as surely we got into some sort of mischief!! As for toilet training, from memory, both my boys were 3+ before they were toilet trained. And DS2 had a night nappy for quite a while after that too. I can't say that giving them the extra year caused them (or me) any lasting issues.
I came down unwell last week and ended up in hospital over the weekend having my gallbladder removed. Still in quite a bit of pain when moving from sitting to standing etc. Haven't been able to pick up DD2, can only give her cuddles if DH gets her from the bassinet for me, and poor DD1 just wants to run and lunge herself at me, have to keep my guard up to block my tummy!
peeks - how are you recovering? that does not sound ideal, having surgery with a newborn to look after. and a toddler. and you have 2 boys too I think?! you poor thing.
vic - how did jack go with his 18mth immunisations? I have ds's coming up in a week or so. I roughly measured & weighed ds the other day, he is around 78-80cm (he wouldn't stay perfectly still!) and just over 9kg. he is still lean. eats well, just so active he burns it off straight away. did you end up taking jack to the checkup about his speech? just curious bc ds isn't saying much still. although he says mumma now, which is something at least! he can say peppa (pig), dad, grandma (not clearly, but I know what he's saying). he nods & shakes his head a lot rather than saying the words. I try to get him to say words, but I don't want to push him. it seems like he gets a bit shy about it.
tasha - how's your little one?
ds is still waking once a night, well morning really. this morning was 3am. he just sat in his cot (still in our room), occasionally calling to me, then eventually gave up at 4am and went to sleep. its better than a screaming baby I know, but it still means I wake up & cant sleep until I know he's asleep. I have been feeling quite tired & a getting a bit of m/s so hasn't been a great couple of weeks. today I felt good though, so hopefully the worst is over.
Andie, I couldn't even imagine being pregnant, m/s and tired with a toddler! Don't know how you all do it! They should have checklist stuff at your health nurse appointments about speech etc. If they think there is a problem they'll let you know And 9kg gosh he is a tiny little thing
Peeks, how are you doing? Obviously have your hands totally full at the moment! Hope you are well x
Vic, hope the needles went well. DD is 79cm and weighs 11.5kg at her last appointment.
We are going for our 18 month vaccinations next week, mchn app last week and all is good. She can say so many words now and she's so confident. I watched her at daycare the other day just climbing the stairs and going down the mini slide all on her own. The staff laughed because they said she does it all the time, but I hadn't seen it before. Thankfully we haven't had an 'sleep agression' of any sorts. Still sleeps well (fingers crossed lol)
Jack's immunisation went well. He cried of course but not for long. We currently have the cold like symptoms. I forgot how annoying a runny nose is. Went just went to CAFHS for his check up and immunisations. He weighs 12.4k and 83 cm so bit heavier and taller than we thought. His head is pretty big. 97th percentile but she was not concerned.
His questionaire was good. His fine, gross, problem solving skills are all excellent. His communication and social skills are good. She said his speech was in the normal section and she would not bother with the Joeys appt. So I canceled it. They did ring me last week and talked me into just coming in for a check up. He said a one off appointment just to see if we needed any help.
Jack has started transition into the toddler room at day care and loving it. There are so many babies in the nursery they have decided to start him a bit earlier with another couple of older boys. The toddler outside section has had a massive extension and all the kids are loving it.
Sadly one of the boys in the toddler room has been diagnosed with a brain tumour and has just had it removed. Its cancer Its hit me quite hard and am proud of our town for all the support they are giving to his parents. His little brother is one of Jacks little buddies so we know his mom and cant imagine how they are coping. Makes me squeeze Jack even harder.
vic - that's awful news, i cant even imagine what those poor parents are going through. xx
tasha - i had a good day today, no m/s & my little one slept from 7.30pm-6.45am - so i have good days too! couldn't believe it when i woke up this morning & realised i hadn't had to get up at 3 or 4am... fingers crossed its his new schedule!
afm - just plodding along really, no real news. ds was being super cute today, took him out on his little trike & he pretty much spent the whole time with his hands not even on the handle bars turning around to look at people walking behind us... made it a lot easier for me to push him without having to contend with his 'steering'. he was so good just sitting on his trike while i got a BT done, although he did leave a little trail of cracker crumbs on the pathology floor...
had ds's 18 mth check today, all ok. he is 80cm, 9.3kg's. mchn wasn't too concerned with his speech, so im not going to worry about it too much now. he understands everything, he's very clever & cheeky so I think the words will come... eventually! he did not like having his head measured... he had a little cry over that, lol. he has just weaned this past week, which has gone really well. good timing & im happy that I get a break from bf'ing before the next one gets here. hope everyone is doing well. xx
Andie - I cant believe your ticker says your 15 weeks already...gosh its gone quick for...well for me anyway
DS in now in a big boys bed. And loves it. I have mixed feelings about it but am getting used to the idea. He was starting to get his legs caught in the rails and waking up. We had bought a bed to give to him for his birthday but decided that that the time was right to take out the cot and give him a single bed. We didn't bother with the toddler bed as its a cot size anyway. It took me a few days to get my head around changing things as he is a good sleeper and didn't want to mess with anything but its been a non event really. We put it in the same spot as the cot and kept the routine the same and he has only gotten out once since his first sleep on Friday afternoon. I just went in and put him back in bed and he rolled over and went to bed.
I was sad to see the cot go. We have had it set up in his room 5 months before he was born and I used to love spending time in there before he was born dreaming of having a baby in that cot. I am happy for him to progress and he loves his big bed he can bounce on and have lots of room to sleep, but sad for the baby I dont seem to have anymore. He had a haircut on the weekend also and now his baby curls have gone and its like we now have a child in the house and not a baby.
As we wont be having another I feel a bit ripped off that my time of having a baby in the house has gone by so quick. I waited so long to have a baby and before I know it the time has come and gone. I see new born babies and admit I feel clucky.
Having said that Jack is so much fun and is a great age. He just keeps getting better and better. He is interesting, loving and such a positive addition to our family.
Hi ladies
Andie, yes it has gone very quick, 15 weeks already! I have only just even thought of considering having another. And that's only just a thought I don't know how you all do it!
Vic, does Jack stay in his bed? I don't think my dd would stay in there, she would just get up and start fiddling with everything. I planned to convert the cot when she is about 2.5. Do you use sleeping bags? They are great, and no leg in the bar problems.
Watching dd grow is just so wonderful She is such a happy, clever little girl. She loves to dance and talks so much haha. I feel she is very confident and the ladies at daycare say she is a dare devil. I have to sign accident reports at least once a week, but she just gets back up and soldiers on Loving every minute.
Tasha - Jack stays in his bed. We have a roller shutter so the room is very dark with only a glow coming from the baby monitor. He has only gotten out the once. I too thought he would roam all over the room but so far so good. He actually moves less around the bed than he did the cot. I go in to check on him a couple of times through the night and cover him up but so far its been pretty smooth sailing. He is not in sleeping bags anymore. He grew out of the 6-18 month ones and I didn't want to replace them with bigger sizes. He sleeps in pj's and if its cold socks and has his two blue blankeys he has had since little and I put one over him and he cuddles the other one. He also has a childrens pillow. I know its not recommended until 2 but he loves it. Jack is still in a cot at daycare. He seems pretty flexible about where he sleeps
