bloom - thats fine personal choice, i will still be doing farex. there are always campaigns out saying what is better so i try not to listen and go with my own instincts. if you listen to too much of that you couldnt eat anything. everything in moderation i always say. and dont forget you need to be giving your baby iron, coz thats why they need to start solids at 6 months in the first place. but im sure everyone will do what they find best for them and their child. will only be using that alone to begin with then will be starting vegies soon after.
doubletrouble - they actually say the egg whites are more likely to have reaction than yolks, surprising i know.
mOt - maybe genetics, maybe hes just going to be small, you cant overfeed a bf bub and im sure you would know about it if you underfed him lol. gl with your mchn appt.
im with you on letting them experiment and learn with food. will just have to buy a plastic mat for the floor lol. will be messy but cute.

Hey everyone :) Been popping in every now and then, but not enough time to post properly between packing. Plus I don't think my brain has really been up to putting together something that makes sense, lol.
I find the solids discussion really interesting - I'm with you Bskilner, there are so many differing views out there, there is no possible way to do something that everyone agrees with, and no one way will suit everyone. Within our Mother's Group there are lots doing rice cereal from four months, another who waited til 6 months then found her DD didn't like the jar food so just moved on to fruit mash from home, and others who just feed bubs whatever will go on a spoon - jam, custard, whatever. There are so many different methods, it's so hard to know what's right, it's just what's right for you.
I've ordered Gill Rapley's BLW book, I'm interested to see what it says about first foods. I've read the same thing about fruit - it's sweeter so bubs will choose it over veges. With the iron thing, I read somewhere (I think a blog post somewhere) that offering red meat early on is now recommended. That seems strange, a baby munching on a piece of steak lol. I've still got time to go through the book and see what I think though - Belley looks at all our food and I know if I gave her some it would go in her mouth, but everything goes in her mouth. She's interested in whatever I'm holding - phone, keys, remote - and all of it would go in her mouth. She still has a very strong tongue thrust reflex, and I don't think she actually wants to eat something, just chew anything you know? I really doubt she'd swallow anything yet, it'd get pushed straight back out with her tongue.
The gagging thing I'm told can be a bit of a worry, but apparantly the gag reflux starts a lot closer to the front of the mouth in babies, not back in the throat like adults, so that they can push the food forward. Apparently a normal part of learning to eat? I dunno, but it'd still be scary if you think they're choking.

Nawww MoT, how cute is Hudson yelling at stuff to get it going again. And so cute that he loves you both so much :) I don't know what I'd do if Belley preferred DH, it would make the days too hard! She definitely loves it when he gets home after work, she gets so excited to see him again. It's so cute to see. Good luck with your appointment today! I wouldn't worry about Hudson't weight, your other two are so different he could fall anywhere on the scale lol.
Bskilner, it was good to read that William was a little unsettled after his vaccinations but got better quickly - I needed that last night! Annabelle's vaccinations were at 3:30, and it was horrible :( I cried as soon as they started counting to jab her, and DH nearly fainted from the stress of it. But once it was done he scooped her up and stopped the crying in no time. Then last night was just normal, bath at 7, feed to sleep at 7:30, but then she woke at 8 and couldn't get back to sleep. She ended up getting really worked up, screamed the house down. She finally calmed down at 9:30, but was still sobbing in her sleep, it was horrible :( She woke again and cried some more, and finally fed to sleep and slept from 11 til 5. She's still tired today, just exhausted from all the crying I guess.
Other than the vaccinations, her check up was great. Measurements were 65cm and 7.39kgs. It's funny to think they're her measurements at four months and she's 97th percentile, but I know a baby from my home town who's 15 weeks old, 65cm and 8.22kgs. Now that's a big baby!
Our sleep is a bit up and down. Some nights she'll sleep ten hours, others she's up every two hours. There's no pattern or way to predict it. She also won't sleep anywhere except being held. I just accept it and settle in for snuggles and then take her room to room to do stuff when she's awake. But I've got the No Cry Sleep Solution books ordered, interested to see if they suggest anything that actually works.

kaytee - you can get fortified cereals that have iron in them, when you first give meat you can blend it into puree. william is the same, sucks/chews on anything. but think he is starting to get the hang of swallowing and pushing things to the back of his mouth, as he has started drooling less and keeps making funny shape with tongue?? But i wont be starting food until atleast 5 months.
yeh william slept in our bed first night after immunisations, think he kept having nightmares of the nurse stabbing him with a needle lol. who knows. but now he is back to normal, sleeping through the night from 9pm-7am. But it wasnt until after he did the poo from the rotavirus one, went 4.5days with nothing then went for 3 days straight, a few poos everyday but slowing down now. and a lot more settled.
thats a big baby kt, william is long but not overly chubby.
william wanted to be held a lot again after the immunisations, didnt want to sleep in his bed, but he is better now. sleeping 3-4 naps a day in his cot, then has an afternoon nap in my arms after feed before his shower and bed.

the gagging thing is real scarey when they start eating. DS2 has always had a strong reflex, and not good with textured foods so I got very good at wisking him out of the high chair and turning him tummy side onto my knee and patting his back. Sophie has turned blue afew times from reflux blocking her nose etc so I reackon Im stil pretty fast at it, but man it freaks me out! Huge adrenaline rush. There have been afew nights night where I have hardly slept because her reflux has been bad and I want to watch out for her.
I use to give DS1 chop bones to chew on, no big pieces of meat left on them, and he loved it (he was born in the year of the dog though) Vegemite use to be recommended for helping with the iron after 6 months, but I believe the sodium content concerned some people ?? Their iron needs are the highest they will ever be I was told, as they are born with enough to last about 6 months then its all go.

Wow DT, I'd totally freak out if she turned blue on me!! I bet you've gotten super fast reflexes for that now.
DH just came home and told me a horrible story :( He was saying to the guys at work about our rough night with Belley last night, and a guy there told him about his 15 month old DD. She was born early with underdeveloped lungs. She spent the first six months in hospital, and sometimes when she gets excited she just stops breathing, falls over and turns blue. They try and help by blowing in her face but mostly they just have to wait til she starts breathing again. I guess it can always be worse, I can't imagine being in their position.
Bskilner, it's funny you mention about the nightmares, that's exactly how it seemed with Belley last night. She'd randomly wake up crying, or cry in her sleep.
I'm not sure how her poo will be after the rotavirus this time. Before yesterday, she hadn't done a poo since Friday before last. Thankfully yesterday she did two to make up for it, but now I'm not sure she's got any left in there for even the rotavirus to get out lol.

Failed
Feeling like a failure. My milk has dried up and doesnt seem to be coming back. I made some L cookies expressed more then usual but its not happening. She has had breast refusal for weeks and so I started to express to atleast give her some BM but now it seems to be over. DH doesnt mind, he says atleast she got afew months and reminded me DS1 was the same with refusal and we didnt pump extra then and hes great. I BF DS2 for a year, really battled through pumping and dumping when I was in hospital. I would never have thought my milk would dry up while I was pumping. I dont have the time to sit and pump all day but I wish to get my milk back. My feelings are mixed and I would like to be at peace either way. Pumping in our busy house has been a nightmare but I cant let go my guilty feelings I should be producing milk for her. Sorry ladies, Im tired, was up alot in the night. Ramble over. the fact you BF for so long is fantastic!
there is a pill your DR can give you if you really wanna contine (but ive heard to side affects can be a bit nasty)
and pumping i fully fully understand DS1 was EMB for 11months mostly due to guilt (he also HATED all soy formulas and i hated the smells) and when i was 3 months pregnant with DD i almost cried in relief i could finally stop pumping and not feel too guilty!
i hope you get some rest and feeling more relaxed and less guilty soon xoxo

OMG KT i saw a photo of gorgeous Belley on FB and she looks massive compared to DS2!
DS2 had his 4m health appt tuesday :D he weighs 5.14kg and is 61cm long!
my MCHN is wrapped in his progress his finally catching up with devolpments!
his still not gaining enough weight but shes more then happy with him
bubba is now in his own room at night .............so scary sad and guilty! but his sleeping better again hopefully it continues! he started waking up screaming during the night for no reason no distress just screaming for attention now his starting at 7am much more acceptable!
KT i feel your moving pain! we moved 2 weeks ago! but moved and unpacked in 1day :D settlement for our old house is monday :D so weve spent the last 2 weeks fixing it up ourselves and with tradies and getting it spotless!
we wouldve done everything ourselves but DH with his finger and my back we just couldnt do it!
alright im off for a nap DS2 n 1 have tummy bugs :'( worst part is ment to be visiting 2 of BB mummies tomorrow

DT no Bubba feels tantrums over his dummy are awesome overnight!
and ive observed him too as its been going on for a month! i finally had to put him in his own room which is right next to me just so i didnt wake to his every cry!
but i CANT complain too much as he doesnt require night feeds very often

Sophie is stil having 2 min 4 or 5 feeds on bad nights.
The dummy tantrums are fun arent they! She is Dummy in day and pref thumb at night now so we dont have those anymore.
the wine is gooooood but tv is crap tonight :lol: DH has taken the boys to Badminton with him, feels weird to be alone (except baby whos in bed)

MOT - I'd like to put DS2 in his own room but DH is pretty insistent that he stays in with us. DS2 thrashes around in his sleep and bangs the sides of the cot so loudly it wakes me! We will probably keep him in with us till 6 months.
Double Trouble - hope you enjoyed your quiet night in! I had a night off mummy duties on friday night when I did some card making at a friend's mum's place.
And you are definitely not a failure Double Trouble! I know that it can be so painful and upsetting not to have your breast feeding journey go as you wished. You've done really well to breast feed her for so long. You could try seeing a GP to get some motilium (tablet) which doesn't have any significant side effects, but from what I've heard they actually only help in some circumstances. I have hyperplasia (lack of breast tissue) but only discovered after DS1 was born. I was grief stricken for weeks!
As for me, DS2 is finally doing longer stretches overnight! We decided about a week ago to start trying to settle him with water when he first woke overnight. That has generally been working. He will sometimes wake for a drink of water and sometimes sleep from 9pm-5am. We are now 6 days since his last poo and I've been giving him coloxyl drops, so expecting something soon!

I'd be bathing him by himself til its happened :rofl: DS2 went 11 days before we got him meds and when it happened I couldnt believe a baby could store that much poop inside! It was a snake that curled round the baby bath (soryy tmi) it was spectacular though. Hope yours gets relief soon
Sophie had a blocked nose last night- really bad so was up for must of it trying to work out how to get it cleared. Nothing seemed to work, then 2 sneezes and we could both get some sleep (but this was 4.30am) so a tad jetlagged today. Hope I can keep my eyes open til the rugby final to

Bloom- my older 2 stayed in my room until 6-7months, it broke my heart and made me feel so guilty but he HAD to go into his room at night! his now sleeping better and longer :D his still in his bassinette as his still so little! and his sister is still in the cot! so not looking forward to putting her into a toddler bed and i quite like bubba sleeping in the bassinette, DS1 was 5months until he got too big and DD was 6m before she out grew it! Bubba is the smallest,

DS1 finished night off by attempting to remove 2 of his toe nails! Blood EVERYWHERE! we think he put his foot in the shower drain and did it that way! so i rushed him off to hosp but luckly the nurse saved us hrs of waiting by cleaning and bandaging his foot which he wears proudly! and she informed me his toe nail wil drop off GROSSSSSSSS i hate blood and stuff like that (i think my births were beyond gross but i did hemorrhage with both the boys so that could explain why birth is so gross to me!)
Off to the shops tomorrow to buy Bubba a houdini proof wrap!

dt - im going well thanks. you have to keep telling yourself what a great job you did bf for as long as you did, especially with expressing. it is hard work, and sometimes we can be even harder on ourselves. just keep telling yourself, you did the best you could. and your child wont be suffering, you can still feed her.
bloom - thats funny about your dh, mine kept trying to convince me to move my ds into his own room. which he is in now and much better sleeper too. had to move him coz he was too big for bassinet and cot wouldnt fit in our room.
gl with the poo after 6 days.
afm - bought william a jolly jumper on saturday. and he absolutely loves it, he can move around and see whats going on. so hopefully it will free me up a little to do chores around the house. seeing as he has been taking to wanting to be carried whilst he is awake.

DT, I just wanna give you a big hug :hug: You are in no way a failure, you've done your absolute best for your DD. I haven't pumped (haven't got around to buying one yet) but it sounds like you've done such hard work keeping your supply. If you really want to keep going, is there a LC or someone over there you can see? Or ask Barb on here a few questions? I hope you enjoyed that wine though, it was deserved!
Hehe MoT, Belley is huge! She seems like it to me anyway. I packed up all her 4 & 3 0 clothes yesterday, it was so sad :( I cannot believe she ever used to fit in them! That's great that Hudson's doing so well - if he starts off small he's never going to be huge anyway. He's doing all the right baby things anyway, rolling, laughing etc, he's obviously a happy and healthy little bubba :)
Lol at having bubs in their own room being scary. I put Belley in her cot in our room when she falls asleep at night, and even that feels so strange - to go back out to the lounge without her. I stare so hard at the monitor lol. Last night DH went to bed while I packed up a few things, and when I went in he was just leaning over the edge of the cot staring at her. Naww :)
Hooray for getting the move done so quickly! We'll take a few days with ours. We've got a week between settlement and when tenants are likely to move in. It's a 30 minute drive each way to the new house, so it'll all depend on how Belley takes it and if she gets sick of the car. I just ordered a hammock for her off eBay, so I might set that up at the new house and I'll stay there to unpack while DH and whoever does that packing up and driving.
DT, Belley didn't like her shots at all :( She was really unsettled that night, and it was like she was having nightmares, she kept waking up crying. I swear she was dreaming about being jabbed. She got over it quickly though, and was fine by the next day.
Bloom, Belley only poops once a week. Although last time she went 10 days. Today should be 'poop day' seeing as her last one was last Monday, but so far nothing more than farts lol. This kid would put grown men to shame! Good luck once it does arrive :)
Bskilner, is the jolly jumper the thing that goes in the door frame? I want to get Belley this activity centre thing for Christmas, she sits in the middle, the floor is kinda bouncy and the seat swivels 360 degrees so she can get to all the toys. It has a 11kg weight limit though, and already being 7.5kgs I don't know how long she'd get use out of it for. What's the jolly jumper like?
AFM, going well here. Apparently due for a wonder week, but seeing as bubs will only nap on me anyway and likes to be carried I don't see how bad things can get. Maybe after it she'll start napping in her cot or the hammock. Wishful thinking? Lol. It's stinking hot here too lately. Even overnight. Belley has started waking from the heat, even thought she's just in a short-sleeved no-leg suit thingie. Then she finds it hard to go back to sleep. I brought her in to bed last night, she was on her side with her head resting on my arm. All was silent and still so I lit up my phone, to see her there all curled up, hands together on her chest, beautiful face looking up at me and her eyes all big, just watching me. As the phone light dimmed she shut her eyes, sighed and fell asleep. It made me so mushy I nearly cried right there lol.
We've changed over her seat on the pram, from the bassinette to the regular seat, and she loves it! We walk about 4ks every day, and she usually falls asleep pretty quickly :)
Oops, bubs is stuck near the telly lol. Gotta go, hope you're all well :)

kaytee - jolly jumper goes up to 20kg, but it would depend on how big as well, as the seat part is only so big. but william likes the freedom of standing in it. frees up my hands, but he still wants my attention to keep him occupied.
how cute about the falling asleep, you cant help but waste time just looking at them. especially when they are sleeping. its a bit of a surprise when you think they are asleep in your arms and you look down at them and they are just staring up at you. so cute.

Had a shot and oral meds yesterday for menigitis and something else (was relieved to get those done seeing as DH had M earlier this year)
Thanks for your support over the BF ladies. Im coming to terms with it more. Not real happy about getting up to make bottles in the night though- Uhhh it was so much better to pop a boob in her mouth and stay cuddly and warm :lol:
Is it jolly jumper time already? Woohoo, Think shes gonna love it, she loves me bouncing her in my arms and this will be something she can do herself. She gets frustrated about being on her back/ lieing down all the time but is too young to sit in a walker (man she'll be a demon in that) Im gonna go see if we can get jumpers here right now!
