Babies Born ~ March 16th-31st 2009 #6

Hi Girls! It's been a little while :) I've been pretty busy with life in general, DD, uni and I also started up a facebook business page to make a little bit of money a couple of days ago.

Brisbane was great, the highlights were the plane trip, Ahmets turkish restaurant - DD was absolutely fascinated by the belly dancer and hardly ate anything and also the ferris wheel.

JF - I'm glad that things are going well with you. Sounds like you are pretty comfortable with your ob. There are about 4-5 different midwives at the birth centre I'm going through and the idea is that you meet them via your appts throughout pregnancy so that by the time you go into labour you've met them all. I have 3 appts I think and I definitely have favourites so far.

Mo - How are the girls adjusting to having a little sister?

PRMG - Yay for sleeping in her own bed! DD is still in with us, we have to get an airconditioner for her room because it is too hot and the sun hits all of the bedrooms in the arvo turning our bedrooms into steam boxes.

How is everyone going?

I've finished uni for the semester finally and am about to start making DD a christmas dress for her to wear to a party this weekend and then to all the other christmas events coming up. I can't believe it is almost christmas already! DD is getting a play-doh creativity kit, some duplo, a medical kit and a few other little things, plus all the presents from family and friends.

We're staying home for christmas and will probably have a family lunch at my parents place, should be nice and relaxing apart from the heat.

Sounds like a nice and relaxing Christmas, FW. We're going to my mum's which is only 15 minutes away. Lazy day really. Boxing day we spend with my dad.

DD is teething at the moment, but at least she can tell me now what's going on. She's still got two molars coming that have cracked through, but are taking their time coming out fully. Last night she was crying and said her mouth was sore. I asked if she wanted some panadol and she said "No, panadol goes in the toilet." :lol: Dunno where she got that one from! She's been talking up her greetings, her favourite being "Have a good day!" She makes us laugh.

I don't come on BB as much anymore & now Oct 07 & 11 groups both have groups on FB i come on here even less.
How is everyone doing?
Bambi is sick with a cough & we of to the Drs just to make sure it's a cold & nothing else.
Kodi & Maddi are both sick as well but are getting better.
Kodi is growing up so much lately, she is talking heaps clearer acting more & more like Maddi each day...
Maddi is doing well she starts 4yr old Kinder next year, i can't believe this time next year i'll be getting her school uniform etc.. ready :0

Bambi is getting so big, she is such a happy content little girl i can't complain at all, She gives you the biggest smiles now & coos away when you talk to her.
I just love it.

I don't get on here much anymore either, I mainly post in my belly buddies thread these days.

We are well, I think I can officially say that DD is toilet trained now. It is a learning experience for me too with a bit of trial and error. She hated training pants even though they were cloth ones she treated them like nappies so we went straight to undies. We're still working on getting her to use the toilet but she is happy to use the potty and will go by herself, she just won't put her clothes back on!

I remember my sister would take her clothes off all the time when she was little and go through 3-4 sets of clothes a day, DD won't even attempt to take her own shirt off without me there to help her. I'm trying to encourage a bit of independence without being too pushy.

It's crazy how fast they grow up isn't it Mo. Even looking at pics of Bambi, she doesn't have that newborn look anymore.

Well done on the TT FW! We're getting no closer. I'm so frustrated and running out of ideas. She thinks that going to the toilet is wrong. Going to the potty is wrong. She gets upset when she has a dirty or wet nappy. If she's in undies, she'll usually have one accident, and then hang on for the rest of the day, until bedtime, when she knows she's going back into a nappy. We went camping with my family, and she didn't poo for four days. She won't go if other people are around. By the third day, she was sobbing, but nothing we did would encourage her to go. When my family left, we got three dirty nappies, one after the other. I actually showed her into the toilet after I had been :redface: and she kept saying "Oh mummy. Oh dear. Oh no." I kept saying, "Mummy is a good girl. Mummy went in the toilet." She always comes in with me, she's seen her cousin go, but she thinks it's the wrong thing to do.

Mo - Hope the girls are all better and it was nothing serious. Bambi is so cute.

It's so hard to change their mindsets once they believe something. DD is convinced that her eyes are brown like mine, even though they are a dark blue/grey like DF's. She is adamant that one of mum and dad's dogs is a boy even though her name is Rosie and the dogs are always referred to as "the girls".

The hardest part was getting her to want to do it. I did resort to bribery at one stage with jellybeans but in the end she was more motivated by being a "big girl" and us making a big fuss out of it. I think in some ways it's harder to toilet train them when they're older because of the ideas they have in their heads and they're already pretty set in their ways.

Kodi is no where near ready to TT & i'm not even fussed, Maddi TT just before 3 & she did it within 2 days & even night trained at the same time.

We haven't even tried to TT yet although DD will come with me to the toilet and we talk about the whole thing, we aren't going to push anything untill after this baby or she asks about it. If she asks to go, I will put her on but she rarely does anything. I'm not in any rush really.

Speech therapy is going really well. DD is still almost a year behind where she should be verbally but can communicate at the appropriate level regardless (can construct sentences in signs and knows 100s of signs) so that is really good because it means there are no cognitive delays, it is purely due to the messages her brain communicates with her muscles. It also appears to be completely limited to oral capacity and no other movement is affected, as she is small and was late to walk it was something that we were concerned about but she is right on track with her gross motor skills and her fine motor skills are way advanced. She is actually almost to the level of a 4 year old with her comprehensive ability and has a pretty impressive memory (has also been picking up signs just through infrequent usage, ie. her speechie will use signs even if she isn't specifically teaching/emphasizing certain ones and DD will use them appropriately days later) so it is nice to get a lot of good news too. Sorry, little bit of a brag lol it can be really hard seeing other children at mother's group or the park who can speak so fluently and see my DD struggle to speak back to them (she only has a handful of verbal words still) but she's getting there.

I'm 36 weeks on Sunday, can't believe it is almost time for the baby to arrive!! I'm hoping I go late despite getting quite uncomfortable just so we can get through Christmas and the New Year first. I actually haven't bought a single thing either yet so am completely unorganised but we will mostly be recycling DD's stuff so only need to organise a car seat which will probably be a new one for DD and then the baby can go into hers. Should probably think about packing my hospital bag too...

That's fantastic news JF! It's great that you can communicate with DD in signs instead of having to rely on verbal communication. You are an awesome mum :) Maybe bub will be born on your b'day. Not that we have any say in it really, but with DD I wanted to avoid April fools day and with this bub I would like to avoid Feb 29th. Chances are I'll go over anyway.

What's everyone getting their LO's for their birthday?
Both girls got so much for Christmas that i have no idea what to get K for her birthday now...

We're thinking maybe a bike for DD. She's starting to figure out her pedals on her trike and she adores riding on DH's bike (we have a wee ride fitted). We're going to see how she goes on the trike and take it from there.

Kodi loves her Bike, she rides it all the time & even over takes Maddi lol

How is everyone?

We're plodding along here. M is sick, nasty cold/sinusy thing. She sneezed about 400 times yesterday lol. She grins every time she sneezes :) She slept right through the night on Friday. Naturally, I didn't! Woke up in a panic and then battled with the "if I go to her room I might wake her up" dilemma but the want to make sure she was okay won. She didn't wake up though! DH repeated the panic when he woke at 6 lol! She hasn't slept through since, but she has remained in her bed each night and I've been able to settle her and convince her to stay there, so fingers crossed the waking during the night will end soon.

Thanks for the well wishes too in my PA. Can't quite believe it! Every twinge and pull has scared the crap outta me, but so far so good. Have my NT scan on Saturday!

JF - You're so close now to meeting this bubba! All the best hun!

All good here, M & K are constantly at each others throats & are driving me crazy but otherwise both are healthy.
Bambi is doing well she's almost 15wks old already :-0, she is a real chatterbox always telling stories & laughing she is sooooo placid & happy.
I'm getting better slowly, it's really knocked me around but last time i was this sick it took 3 months to fully recover but i could sleep & rest when needed no such luck this time so i guess it may take longer :(

JF & FW your both so close to holding your bubbas.
JF will be looking out for your BA over the next few days/weeks, hopefully days :)

We won't be finding out what we're having this time. We did with M, but I felt a bit robbed when she was born and there was no "It's a girl" at the end. Weird, but I want that this time. DH wants to find out and I've told him to go for it, just keep it a secret. He's decided to get the sonographer to write it down and he'll read it about a week before I'm due, if he really feels the need to mentally prepare (he'd love a boy and is scared that he might be disappointed if we have a girl as this is our last).

that's a good idea MG, do you have any feelings if it's a boy or girl?

Right now I'm feeling girl. But I was convinced that M was a boy. Even after we were told we were having a girl, I wasn't convinced lol.

So with that reasoning, it's probably a boy :ROFL:

Things are going well here, had a scan today and my placenta has moved out of the way so all cleared for a vaginal birth, thank goodness. We found out the sex of bub today too, anyone want to have a guess before I share? :)

Yep, due date is this Sunday eek!! Tomorrow is my birthday! The big 24 haha.

Not really feeling anything which is a bit odd! I only got to 38w with DD so feels strange to still be pregnant but am glad to get some distance from Christmas, content to just plod along. Not too uncomfortable still although feeling very big and hot.

So excited for you MG, hope your scan goes well on the weekend!

PRMG - Hope Miss M is feeling better! Have you had much morning sickness? I have got horrible heartburn again, had it bad with DD as well. I would love to have this baby a little bit early but am mentally preparing for another 41+week bub.

DD has a cyst near her eye, taking her to a specialist next week to get it checked out, might have to be operated on which is a little bit scary! I was laying on the couch the other day and she came up to me and was trailing her fingers from my thigh down to my foot. When I asked her what she was doing she said that this is how the baby is going to come out - out of my foot, haha. I told her that the baby is going to come out of my vagina and she was like, "Oh, ok" and since then she's brought up babies coming out of vaginas a few times. Will be funny if she says it to someone else besides me and DF. Only 6 or so weeks to go til my due date :)

Sorry FW! Miss M is much better, thanks. I had about 4 weeks of all day sickness, some just nauseas, a couple of bolts to the loo. It cleared out, but came back today, mixed with heartburn. Feeling on top of the world ;) I've got my fingers crossed that you go a tad earlier than 41 weeks this time.

I'm trying to pinpoint a date that feels right for this one. Hunch says it will be a Friday. DH, DD and I are all Friday babies. I'm thinking the 5th at the moment, but we shall see. It's a bit early, but my EDD is 17/7 and the scans are currently saying I'm 5 days more advanced, so that brings me to 12/7. DD was born 5 days before her DD so with that rationing, it's getting close to the 5th. Wonder if I'll be right.

JF - Loving the photos! Your girls are gorgeous! Have you settled into the new place?

Mo - How are you travelling?

DD IS SLEEPING THROUGH THE NIGHT IN HER OWN BED!!!!!!!!!!!!

For over a week, we've all had blissful 8+ hours sleep. It's heaven. I'm still tired, but I feel much more rested having to no longer share the bed with a wriggly toddler!

We are pretty settled here and I love it. The street has so many balconies all to the road, it feels like a holiday home haha and so much space! We finally have a dining table so can eat together properly instead of on the floor and Immy has her own room which she thinks is so cool. We got a sign made of her name which she thought was super special. We have been here two nights and both she has slept through in her room which is a relief now that I'm up all night with number two although feeling a bit sad as previously had shared a room with her her whole life (own beds though for a while now and she was mostly sleeping through). She also seems pretty over breastfeeding too and I think it is because it is a baby thing if that makes sense, still has her feed before sleep but that's it, even declined feeding when I was practically begging due to engorgement lol so that is another bitter sweet thing. My little lady is growing up so fast next to tiny Bree which I was half expecting but definitely not prepared for! Very proud of her, she is a great helper and very gentle but affectionate with Bree and so far no tantrums or jealousy so fingers crossed things continue in a similar fashion.

Immy heads back to speech therapy after a break for Christmas and having Bree. She has improved so much and we are getting new words frequently although she still relies heavily on signs. I'm looking forward to going back as it is a lot of fun and we are in need of some new signs. I find myself signing to Bree a lot out of habit, I wonder if she will pick it up and when lol.

Bree is a good baby, I think or maybe I have very relaxed expectations. She doesn't sleep more than half hour to forty mins without settling during the day and who knows what overnight. Haven't really been paying attention as we co-sleep but she is a settled bub and gaining weight at super speeds. She was 3.8kg at birth, 3.6kg at 48hrs old, 4.1kg at one week and 4 days later is 4.3kg. She makes quite a lot of noise in her sleep, I forgot how loud newborns are and the nappies! So many nappies! I'm missing having DP home to help deal with that side of things haha.

In horrible news, the dreaded in-laws arrive today. I'm freaking out to be honest. I haven't seen them really since the incident that has never been mentioned again, let alone an apology. I'm still haunted by that weekend and I just hope after this visit it will be even clearer to me where DPs loyalties are. Everything has been so brilliant between us that I hate having this thing tainting that. I'm already on the back hand as they booked the trip (interstate) without even checking when would be good and now really isn't a great time but I'm being the bigger person and not even mentioning it. I will be the perfect host ;)

FW - I didn't even read that bit about DD's eye! Hope everything is okay and she can avoid surgery. It's very scary :hug:

JF - Good luck with the IL's visit. Glad that Bree is a settled baby. Makes things somewhat easier. Weight gain sounds great! And please.....no further mention of nappies. We're about to try the 3 day TT method with M and I know that there's no way I'm going to want nappies back :ROFL:

All good here, Miss B is doing really well & is my best baby yet.
She is just so happy always giving these big beautiful gummy smiles, i can not wait to she starts showing more personality & i hope she takes after Kodi and not Maddi lol.
Kodi is doing well, she is getting this massive attitude and is so stubborn but generally she is pretty good.
She is always making us laugh she is such a clown.
Maddi still a demanding drama queen, but you gotta love her ;)

MG i was reading your thread about HAB vs CC, have you thought of buying a SSC like an ergo, Angel Pack etc...
They would offer good support for your back as well :)

The cyst under DD's eye popped through the skin the day before we saw the specialist. He said we need to keep it open with warm compresses to get the pus out otherwise she'll need surgery under a general to cut it out.

PRMG - Yay for sleep!

JF - Exciting times for you guys, it's good that Immy has settled in to your new place easily. Hope the inlaws are gone by now!

Mo - Love seeing pics of how Bambi is growing, she seems so big already.

I have an Ergo but not the infant insert. Thinking about getting some sort of sling that will be easy to breastfeed in.

Mo - I looked at the ergo, but I think I like the wrap-style more, ITMS. I'll have a look at the others, haven't heard of them before. Thanks :)

FW - Ouch! Hope DD's eye is okay and starting to clear up!
