Mia, the Rafferty's stuff looks great! We'll be giving that to Harri when he's bigger to as there's no preservatives or anything else added, but I'm also going to get a blender so I can have a cooking day and freeze him meals. There's these awesome trays that look like ice cube trays but they have little pop out bits on the bottom, so when it comes to meal time you just pop out of a couple, heat them up and there's the meal. Hi to everyone else
AFM Harri is doing well. Had him weighed and measured on Thursday he's now 61cms and about 6kg. The nurse kinda guessed his measurements and didn't do them properly which was annoying so I've re-weighed him and he's 6kg rather than the 6.8kg she told me. He's been off his food a little bit lately, only wanting 4 bottles during the day rather than the 5 he usually takes and is a bit spewy in the morning which is apparently a sign of teething?
Change times have become a bit of a nightmare sometimes, soon as he goes onto his change table he's rolling over ahhhh makes things so difficult. Today he's been pulling his little legs up like a frog and kinda leaping forward lol it's very cute.
Tiah is sleeping a little better - we are going a little like this - bed at 6pm, wake to feed at 10, 2, 5, 8. She wakes in between these times and I just rub her little forhead and put her dummy back in and she goes straight back to sleep. I am convinced now it is the cold... I am nagging DP for a proper heater in our room as we only have a little electric one that we only dare leave on for 30 minutes or so.
Pass the baby is the most annoying thing. My friend tells people "Tiah doesnt like being held like a baby, let her check you out instead"
I am holding off on the solids as long as possible, after talking to our nurse. Tiah isnt really showing any interest in anything but her booby so I am going to leave it untill that changes. Plus, I am so unorganised and I know once solids are introduced I am going to have to lift my game! It is so easy at the moment just giving her the boob! She is 5.8kgs now... my lean little munchkin
We went to the pub on the weekend and after a few of the boys (My borther in law and my own little brother) made it clear they were appalled I might feed Tiah in the pub... I ended up feeding her in the disabled toilets I was so angry at myself for doing it, but I knew they would make a fuss and annoy me... and that would make Tiah fussy and make the entire situation worse. DP has toldme he doesnt care what I do as long as I am comfortable.... but the feeding in public thing is so hard tbh. I know I am not doing anything wrong, but knowing other people are so affected by it makes me nervous now and it is a snowball affect because then Tiah gets extra fussy and I get more stressed ahhhhh
meercat - u should feed her where u feel comfortable. who r they to tell u any different! i went out on friday with four other mums and 3 of them are bf. we went to a play cafe and they just flopped them out and fed them there. i admire them for that. i couldnt do it!!! so if u want to feed her in a pub with others around then good on u! do what feels right to u.
missawah - yay for rolling over! Hamish is so close but still not there. tho he can almost sit by himself without me propping him up much anymore!!
con - i hate that people think they can pass the baby around. i am so p---d off about tuesday still. plus we are going to a wedding on saturday and they dont want us to bring Hamish so my mum and DH's mum and going to look after him. my mum is looking after him until mil gets here. so probably until 3-4pm. i asked mum if she could hang around for a couple of hours after she gets here coz i just dont trust her to leave him alone! she was the worst one on tuesday! i have a feeling i am going to have one very unsettled litttle boy saturday night.
afm, Hamish is going great guns with his solids! he has mashed up banana (about 1/3 of one) with some formula mixed in with it to make it a bit more mushy for breakfast. has 1/3 of a jar of heinz veggies for lunch (did try my own but he didnt like it so will try again later on plus the jar lasts for 3 meals), and for tea has a milk arrowroot biscuit mushed up with formula too. if the consistecy is too runny i add some rice cereal to thicken it up. he loves it! just need to get a highchair now. have him sitting on my lap at the moment lol.
Hamish has started babbling too! its so cute. he also has this squeel going. lol its pretty funny. he loves talking to his elmo too. his eyes light up when he sees him
mia - good luck with the rice cereal. maybe try some fruit puree or banana instead. we tried both farex and raffertys with Hamish and he hates both!
Meercat, I can't believe people can be so horrible about b/f in public. It really makes me mad!!!!! I would just bite the bullet and do it somewhere not too big/busy (ie a coffee shop) and then when you get your confidence up you can do it in a pub etc. I have seen plenty of women do it in shopping centres, restaurants, even McDonalds, they just have a blanket covering the bub and boobie. I think it's the most natural thing in the world, can't believe how women are made to feel so bad about it. Grrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As for the heating, just be careful Tiah doesn't get a cold. It is advised to keep a certain temp. where the bub sleeps. Before we converted the spare bedroom into the nursery, it used to be freezing in there as it's at the back of the unit, and the heating from the front room (we have a big wall heater) takes aaaaaaaaaages to reach it, and when it does it's still cold!! So we have bought an oil heater from Kmart for $50 and it's the best thing. I leave it on pretty much 24/7, on low/medium heat which makes the room the right temp all the time. I don't really switch it off as I change Cam's nappy there at 4 am in the morning and the room is nice and cosy. The only drawback????? $$$$$$$$$$$$. Our electricity bill has alomost doubled. My DF said he doesn't care as it's better than Cam having a cold.
Teresa- i can't believe someone would ask you to leave your little baby at home! Grrrrrr! He is only small. Fair enough a child of three or four.....but a BABY!!!! Woooowww i would have said baby comes with me, or i stay home with baby. I'm sorry, i just find it really rude!
Teresa- sorry to hear about DH's grandad And we are quite lucky that Adrian enjoys being passed around and looking at all the new faces, though most people simply pass him back if he starts grumping so its like a saftey switch which means he doesnt get too upset Glad Hamish is going well with the solids. I am considering starting Adrian on some rice cereal or something similar as he is always hungry and downs 210ml bottles in about four mins!!! I usually bf most of the time with usually 1 bottle top up formula a day but lately he's had about 3-4 bottles a day, he's just always soooo hungry! WIll maybe try some and see how he goes
Beata- hope everything gets storted out with Cam's neck and poos
Tiah- if you feel comfortable BF in public then do it and dont let anyone stop you. I cant really because i basically have to get half undressed to do it properly and use both hands to hold him on, so discreetly draping a cloth over him while he feeds is laughable in my situation. Hope it works for you though
Missawah- Yay for clever Harri for rolling! Adrian is closer to rolling back to front than the other way, soon he'll be up and running before i know it
AFM things are good, Adrian is almost sleeping through. He goes down about 9 then sleeps till 5, has a feed and then is up and ready to play at about 6:30- 7. Been a bit fussy during the day of late and is really only happy if your standing while holding him, so lots of rocking and sore backs here LOL. I also think he is getting hungrier much faster as he's only going about 1 maybe 2 hours between day feeds, hence thinking about trying the solids and seeing what happens.
I cant remember who suggested it on here but i tried feeding Adrian in the bath the other night, Worst. Idea. Ever! He was all slippery and i kept worrying he would slip out of my hands, plus he couldnt latch on properly and kept biting the ends to stop from sliding off, plus i was sooo uncomfortable and tense that my milk wouldnt come down, so Adrian just got frustrated and kept screaming, Yeah real relaxing!!!! LOL I think i'll just stick with the comfy couch for now
Also, when you guys wash bubs do you put their ears underwater? I get worried that if water gets in his ears then he might get an ear infection so I try and keep his head out of the water and just wash his hair and face with a facewasher.
Anyway, hi to all the other ladies, glad to see we are all still out there!!!
Jelly - that was me with the bath feed! Sorry! Shows how different each baby is, I resort to the bath feed if I need to calm Tiah down or I want to relax in the evening! I asked about the ears underwater and ear infections at my health appt and they assured me it is ok, as long as you make sure to dry them properly when they get out.
I have Tiah all rugged up in - Singlet, Grosuit with hands folded over, PJ top, Grobag then three blankets tonight! I was scared to put blankets over the grobag, but after some research it sems to be ok.... and much better than her getting too cold! Fingers crossed it makes a difference!
