Teresa- i can't believe someone would ask you to leave your little baby at home! Grrrrrr! He is only small. Fair enough a child of three or four.....but a BABY!!!! Woooowww i would have said baby comes with me, or i stay home with baby. I'm sorry, i just find it really rude!

Teresa- sorry to hear about DH's grandad :( And we are quite lucky that Adrian enjoys being passed around and looking at all the new faces, though most people simply pass him back if he starts grumping so its like a saftey switch which means he doesnt get too upset :) Glad Hamish is going well with the solids. I am considering starting Adrian on some rice cereal or something similar as he is always hungry and downs 210ml bottles in about four mins!!! I usually bf most of the time with usually 1 bottle top up formula a day but lately he's had about 3-4 bottles a day, he's just always soooo hungry! WIll maybe try some and see how he goes :)
Beata- hope everything gets storted out with Cam's neck and poos :)
Tiah- if you feel comfortable BF in public then do it and dont let anyone stop you. I cant really because i basically have to get half undressed to do it properly and use both hands to hold him on, so discreetly draping a cloth over him while he feeds is laughable in my situation. Hope it works for you though :)
Missawah- Yay for clever Harri for rolling! Adrian is closer to rolling back to front than the other way, soon he'll be up and running before i know it :)
AFM things are good, Adrian is almost sleeping through. He goes down about 9 then sleeps till 5, has a feed and then is up and ready to play at about 6:30- 7. Been a bit fussy during the day of late and is really only happy if your standing while holding him, so lots of rocking and sore backs here LOL. I also think he is getting hungrier much faster as he's only going about 1 maybe 2 hours between day feeds, hence thinking about trying the solids and seeing what happens.
I cant remember who suggested it on here but i tried feeding Adrian in the bath the other night, Worst. Idea. Ever! He was all slippery and i kept worrying he would slip out of my hands, plus he couldnt latch on properly and kept biting the ends to stop from sliding off, plus i was sooo uncomfortable and tense that my milk wouldnt come down, so Adrian just got frustrated and kept screaming, Yeah real relaxing!!!! LOL I think i'll just stick with the comfy couch for now :)
Also, when you guys wash bubs do you put their ears underwater? I get worried that if water gets in his ears then he might get an ear infection so I try and keep his head out of the water and just wash his hair and face with a facewasher.

Jelly - that was me with the bath feed! Sorry! :) Shows how different each baby is, I resort to the bath feed if I need to calm Tiah down or I want to relax in the evening! I asked about the ears underwater and ear infections at my health appt and they assured me it is ok, as long as you make sure to dry them properly when they get out.
I have Tiah all rugged up in - Singlet, Grosuit with hands folded over, PJ top, Grobag then three blankets tonight! I was scared to put blankets over the grobag, but after some research it sems to be ok.... and much better than her getting too cold! Fingers crossed it makes a difference!
YAY! We got some sleep last night! Down for bed at 7 then had a feed at 10... then slept through till 4!!!! :)
She is also in her cot sleeping right now for her morning sleep... that is something I havent been able to acheive at all! Poor little baby must have been freezing this whole time!

We've had a rough couple of days. Starting on Sunday, Fraser suddenly started refusing his bottle and screamed as soon as he saw it. Even screamed if he saw it sitting in the kitchen! Have only managed to get him to take about half what he should be over the last few days so decided to take him to the docs assuming it would be an ear infection, as he likes to drink lying down. Well, the doc (who we have never seen before, but seemed really nice) gave him a thorough examination and said that he thinks Fraser has a gastro infection - it's causing him to be constipated again though. He said his throat was a little red also. The treatment is watered down milk with Coloxyl drops in for the interim period BUT a soon as I undressed Fraser for his examination, he looked at the bit on his tummy we thought was his 6 pack muscle and said it is a large reducing ventral abdominal hernia which will require major surgery. He's too young for the surgery at the moment so we have to keep a very close eye on it and if it stays out and doesn't reduce, we have to go straight to emergency! My poor baby - what else can go wrong! He has been examined by the Paed 3 times and she never noticed! It has been there from birth as we have seen it. We got a referral to a new paed who specialises in abdomens, but can't get in until 2 weeks time :( It has been a teary day!

and wee Fraser, I am hoping so badly that everything will be ok and the specialist has some better news for you :hug:
Oh Mia, that is terrible. :hug: sending positive thoughts your way and fingers crossed that it goes down. Stay positive, he needs his Mummy to be strong for him :)
Oh Mia, fingers crossed everything works out! How lucky the Dr noticed this, I would be complaining about the Paed if I was you!

Mia that sounds truly stressful and I'm glad it's been picked up - how disappointing of your paed :( I hope the coloxyl drops help Fraser in the meantime and the new paed fills you with more confidence :hug:
Beata I hear you on the heater costs! I'm dreading our elec bill when it comes in - we are cold in our room but DD is snug as a bug in hers with an oil heater! We're not making any fast moves to rolling over here either.
Jelly as far as I know ears submerged in the bath are fine too, as long as they are well dried when getting out as Meercat said. Have you seen the Kids and Water DVD by Laurie Lawrence? We got it in our hospital bounty bag and it's actually really interesting to watch the parts about newborns/babies and water. We've been doing to 'water conditioning' in the bath and start swimming lessons in a couple of weeks.
Con I hope Grace is over her cold too and feeling much better. DD has had a mild one but other than sneezing and coughing and red cheeks she's been pretty good.

Teresa sorry to hear about your DH’s grandfather passing, and that people felt the need to play pass the baby. I swear all of our Mom’s and Grandparents have forgotten how unsettling it can be to a LO.
Meercat I hear you on the feeding in public - it's hard isn't it? I have bought a great BF top that lets me be really discreet - fed taking off and landing on 5 diff planes last week - was freaking out before doing it but just had to do it. I think it has helped me with my BF in public fear that's for sure! I still choose home or a parent room any day though, but I'm so sorry you were made to feel you had to hide to feed. It's such a natural and beautiful process it's a shame society sees it as so taboo :( Glad Tiah is sleeping better too!

As for us, we are doing well, visiting my relatives last week was good, but it was even better to be home. She flew really well, but by the end of the week was pretty much over all the new faces and cuddlers. The last 3 nights co-sleeping was the only option for us at my Grandma’s and it went well, but she woke almost 2hrly and fed as such! It has taken nearly a week to get back to reasonable sleeping through the night (last night down at 7, up at 1 then 5 then awake at 7) and I’m hoping this becomes more regular from now on. 2 and 3hr waking and feeding for the last week has been doing my head in! Oh and our dream run of sleeping through the night lasted a whole 3 nights, I knew it was too good to be true ha ha
Our day sleeping, on the other hand, is fantastic all of a sudden. She’s having 3 two hour naps each day if we are home and not fluffing out and about the place. Don’t know how we did it, but then she is so much more active during the day she must be tiring herself out more. Does anyone else’s bubs talk themselves to sleep? Not only does she vocalise pretty much all day long, but she’s taken to making almost like a droning sound to go off to sleep! It’s really easy to know she’s close to going off because the sound starts, and I just leave her in her cot and she’s out within 5 minutes. Her cousin does it too – might run in the family?!
Anyway, I've raved on enough, hope you're all having a lovely week and keeping warm!
Mia- So sorry to hear about little fraser. I would be speaking to someone about that paed that didnt pick it up, not only because of your situation but if he missed it on Fraser, what else are they missing on all the other babies out there? You think for someone to become a doctor they would know what they are doing and you put your life in their hands, but unfortunately some just arnt up to scratch. I hope things go ok and little Fraser turns out fine :)
Meercat- i wasnt having a go at you about the bath thing, like you said, babies are just very different. Having said that though, Adrian likes having a shower with me, he closes his eyes and smiles when i put his head under the shower head:) Just gotta hold on real tight because he is so slippery :)
HB- Glad your LO is getting more sleep, Adrian has become really vocal in the last week or 2 with constant talking and some high pitched squealing, he usually talks more when he wakes up in the mornings rather than when he's going to sleep tho :)

Oh no Miamunchkin, poor wee Fraser!! The little mite hasn't had a good run lately!! I'm sorry to hear that hun, I hope that one day when he is older it's a pretty straight forward op. for him. It's horrible to hear little babies need surgery :( Speaking of surgeries, our little guy might need a wee plastic surgery one day. His two toes next to his big toe (on both feet) are fused together at the bottom, making the two toes look like wee flippers!! One of the feet is not too bad, but the other is little worse. The paed doesn't think he needs surgery but we are worried he might get picked on at school. I know how horrible little kids can be. The paed said it's a genetic thing, someone in the family had the toes like that. Surely it's not my family...... :o
HB, oil heaters rule!!!! I was told off at the maternal health nurse app. on Tuesday though, as she thinks the temp. at our unit is too high. Cam has got some eczema on his chest, face and one hand, and she said the heating aggrevates it. His room is OK I think, but I think I have the temp too high in the living room where the heater is. I am going to switch it off every now and then during the day so it doesn't get too hot. Soooooo cute about your wee one making the noise before going to sleep!! Cam pretty much talks to himself all day long, it's soooo cute. I recon every day he makes a new sound!
Jelly, I put cotton balls in Cam's ears during bath time as I'm always paranoid water will get in there and he'll get an ear infection. Apparently thay are NOT pretty.
Meercat, yay for the big sleep!!!! We try to give the little guy a bottle around seven, then around 10-10.30 (even if we have to wake him up) and then he goes through to 4 or 5 am. It's great!!!
Well, my poor little guy has got oral thrush....AGAIN! So sick of it, I'm sure that's partly why he keeps fussing with his bottles. Today was a ripper......I fed him at 5 am, then offered a bottle at 9 am, nope!!! then at 10....nope!!! then at 11......NOPE!!!!! The little bugger took one at 12 noon. Helloooooo! At the nurse app. she said not to let him go more than 4 hours between feeds during the day, but also not to force him to feed either. What am I supposed to do then?????? He is above average for his weight (I knew he was!) so she wasn't too concerned that he was fussing with bottles. Would be nice though if feeding time was much more straight forward, I have wasted a LOT of formula so far :wall:

Beata- u can get what is called a gro egg from baby bunting which tells u the temp in babys room. We have one in Hamish's room and it's great
Ree*ree, Missawah, Meercat, Human Bean, Jellymaker & Beata - thanks so much for your support! It really means a lot. I was starting to get so upset with myself - I feel like I did something wrong through my pregnancy that has caused my poor wee man to have all these problems. The thing was, I had such an easy pregnancy! Oh well, guess there's not much we can do until we see the specialist. I was googling his name and it turns out he has a really good reputation, which is really reassuring! I just can't wait til we go see him now - I'm scared to give Fraser tummy time or anything just incase it is hurting him, as I don't know any different!
Beata - we were having feeding issues this week too - apparently it's linked to their development. I hope wee Cam is taking them a bit more nicely for you!
Human Bean - sounds like all is going well with you - yay!!
Teresa - we have a Gro Egg also - it's fantastic! I always feel safe in the knowledge that Fraser's room is at the correct temperature. It's sometimes very difficult to tell otherwise!

mia dont think that u did ANYTHING wrong with your pregnancy!!! sometimes things happen and its just unfortunate that no one picked it up before hand!!! Fraser is still healthy and thats all that matters. if u r worried that tummy time might hurt him ask your doc and see what they say. big hugs and i hope things get better soon xx:

Mia, as Teresa said please don't feel guilty for doing something wrong during your pregnancy, you know that you didn't and sometimes unfortunately it's one of these things that arise after bub is born. While it's not the best news for Fraser, I'm certain they will be able to fix your wee man when he is bigger. Little ones seem to bouce back so much better than grown ups! I know it's still something you don't want Fraser to go though, big hugs and chin up. It's good to know the specialist has a good reputation, that always helps!
Hope everyone is having a good weekend! I went shopping on Friday & Saturday with my wee man. We don't really do back to back shopping trips, but I have tired him out so much he's been sleeping so much over the last couple of days! Today we are having a relaxing day. We were shopping for one of those jumperoo things, it's the fisher price rainforest jumpeoo. They are about $200 but Target will have them for about $150 during the big sale so I think I'll wait. Has anyone got it or something similar??? I'm running out of ideas of how to entertain my 2 minute attention span bub! ha ha.
Still having issues with feeding. It's so stressful for me ATM, that I'm dreading feeding time every feed. Basically he is fussing with his bottles so much I never know how many bottles I'll waste before he takes one. I ended up stabbing the 2 hole teats heaps so they flow much better, he still won't take the 3 hole ones, they are just too fast for him. So I doubt it's the teat flow, I've tried the milk at different temps, no difference, the formula is definitely not 'off' ie the expiry date is 2012.......I'm at my wits end! It's been going on for about 3 weeks now, I'm reluctant to change formulas. The MCHN said to offer him the bottle an hour later if he fusses, but some mornings he goes between 6 to 8 hours without food!! That's way too long I think. I might give the health centre a call on Monday to see if I get a different nurse, maybe she'll have a different idea? The good thing is that he is above average in weight, so that's why I'm not hitting the panic button, yet!! Oh, I forgot to say that he seems to feed better when he is half asleep, I just take the dummy out and he keeps on sucking. So the 4 or 5 am feed is not a problem and the one before bed is usually not too bad, it's the ones in between!! Grrrrrrr!

Beata - maybe try some farex and see how he goes then. Maybe he needs something a bit more then milk?
Beata - Tiah is the same and she is Breastfed! I just keep offering her a feed until she is happy to take it and sometimes that can take a few hours. I think it is because she is more aware of her surroundings now and just isnt so hungry that it takes her attention away from whats going on? She is perfect at the night feeds, but there are no distractions then :)
