Hi Girls,
Nat, clever Angus!!! sounds like he'll be up and crawling in no time as well. Gymbaroo sounds fun and I wish we had something like that up here. We use a sleeping bag for Harri that doesn't have arms (it's way too hot) but we still fold the hands over on his wondersuits. When he's going to sleep he's cheeky and will pull his dummy out but once he's asleep he doesn't mind his arms out. Not sure how to help with that one sorry :(
Rooey, Harri has had a go at the exact same jumperoo at his cousins house and he absolutely loves it so we'll definitely be getting one. As for the rest of the toy sale, we did most of our Christmas shopping at Kmart the other week. For DSD we have got her a big wooden kitchen along with some pots and pans and fake food, cause she absolutely loves watching us cook (she also loves her food, rugby union player that one is lol). For Harri we have got him a walker that has lots of activities built in to it and converts to a wagon once they can walk, we also got him the ball pit and a bag of extra balls. We're getting them both one of those little fold out sofas as well so they can have their own little chair. Very spoilt kids they are. Harri's Nana has bought him the kawasaki 4 wheeler bike they had at big w for Christmas so I can't wait to see him hooning around on that.
Beata, we're the same we don't really have much of a routine, in that it's very loose and changes quite a lot. Harri wakes and has a bottle then we sit up and sing and talk to each other for maybe an hour or so then goes back in his cot for a sleep for an hour or 2. When he wakes it's about 9ish so we sometimes go to the shops and just walk around and look at stuff or we go visit DP's family, lately though we've just been staying at home and he plays on his mat, by that I mean he flips himself over and somehow manages to work his way over to his toys (we moved them away from his reach to encourage him to crawl) and then sticks whatever toy he gets to in his mouth lol (he's teething). He has another bottle around 12 and goes down for a nap from about 1-3 but that's in his swing in the lounge room. After 3 he spends the afternoon playing until about 5 we start his bath, give him a massage, read him a story then it's bottle and bed. More and more he's starting to want to sit up or stand up rather than play on his mat. Jumperoo will be great to help out with this and we have one of those bumbo seats so if he's whingey we put him in that and let him watch a disney dvd (the more singing in it the better).
Teresa, yay Hamish!!! glad he wasn't too grizzly and so cute about the dog. Looks like they'll be great mates :)

Hi everyone - just a quick question:
I mentioned that my Mum went home yesterday and DH finally went back to work on Monday about 4 months leave. So today is officially my first day with just Angus and I. My question is -
How on earth do you get everything done???
DH used to do all the washing and then my Mum did when she was here, so I honestly haven't used a washing machine for about 4 and a half months. :o Angus has himself in a routine of being fed, playing for about an hour, getting a top up and then going to sleep for about an hour. When he's been asleep today, I haven't been very productive - he's asleep now and I'm on here :wall:
Just curious about how other's get all their housey things done while looking after the little munchkins. Note - I have no problem shopping with him - perhaps I should get a job as a professiona shopper :lol:

i do the vacuuming and mopping when DH is home. gonna start doing it at night tho. everything else i can manage when Hamish is asleep or on his playmat

afm- Grace made her debut on the stage last weekend. It was really funny cause everyone thought she was a doll until she started kicking her feet and smiling at the audience! The looks on their faces were priceless!!!

Welcome back b!!!!!! So glad all is going well for you. Wow, Ewan is cutting teeth already!! What a little star! Hopefully the panadol and the gel will make it bearable for him.
Nat, we haven't done the wrapping since 3 weeks old, ha ha ha. Cam hates it and prefers the blankies or a sleeping bag. On the housework question......I am lucky that mum lives 5 minutes from me. Every two weeks, I ship Cameron off to her on a Friday and clean all day, top to bottom. In between, I do the small stuff, like clean the toilet, dust, clean the bathroom/kitchen when he is asleep. I leave the vaccuming when DF is home. On average, Cam sleeps 45 minutes to 1 hour between bottles/play so I know how much time I have.
Con, that's hilarious that the audience thought she was a doll!!! How adorable :p
Missawah, sounds like you have a great routine!
AFM, I am really stressed about this whole feeding thing. He fusses so much that it's driving me up the wall and he can feel my stress so he gets all worked up as well. Today we went to the footy and mum babysat for about 5 hours. She gave him two bottles, NO PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!! WTF??? She thinks that I over dress him and he gets all hot and sweaty when I feed him, so she had him stripped to his romper (I have him in his bonds all in one pretty much 24/7). Do you think I over dress him?????
Also, I find that after the bottle if I put him on his play mat he starts kicking so much that he brings up a fair bit of his milk. He usally has a play after he wakes up from a nap, and then when he is hungry I feed him, then off for a nap again.

Con - that's so cute about Grace's debut!!
Beata - That's what we could do when we lived in the same city as my Mum - but now we don't know anyone in Canberra :( Angus is usually breastfed, but occasionally is given formula in a bottle. DH had the same problem giving Angus a bottle the other day. He refused it and when Mum and I came home, he took one from my Mum straight away. Then the other day, he took one from DH when we were at a restaurant. So, I'm not sure ??? I forget where you live, but I live in Canberra and I put Angus in a bonds wondersuit (with the hands covered) and a thick sleeveless sleeping bag at night. During the day (inside with the heating set to about 19 degrees), he is either in a singlet plus a cotton long sleeved all in one or a singlet, long sleeves t shirt, long pants and socks. I have noticed that when Angus is held close he gets really sweaty. Also the lady at the breastfeeding support place I went to encouraged skin to skin feeding and said that our bodies heat up naturally to heat the baby - so I think the same would happen with bottle feeding?? My sister sweats really easily and always has a damp top after cuddling Angus for a long time. So maybe you could try dressing him with less and see what happens?
I'm really thinking about trying controlled comforting with Angus - has anyone else done it. I've been saying this for a few days - but I don't know if I can actually put it in to practice :p He is getting into a routine of falling asleep on the breast and then crying when I put him into his bassinet. I think I'll have to wake him up more when I feed him too because he falls asleep and then wakes up about an hour later hungry again (after being put to bed for the night). I think my Mum stuffed up his sleep routine because he was sleeping through the night and even going to sleep on this own, but she always rocked him to sleep :wall:

Nat- hope you soon make some new friends in Canberra :) And if you want to try controlled comforting with Angus then do it, its not like you cant stop it if its not working for you.
Teresa- Wow for hamish's tooth! he's growing so fast!
RE- Wrapping- I still wrap Adrian's arms at night because he likes it and if his hands are free he chews on his fists and grumps, then his hands get freezing cold! I only wrap his arms though, his feet are free to move about.
RE- housework- I do general tidying everyday but things like washing and vaccuuming get left probably too long between, its just so hard to hang out loads of washing when the baby keeps grumping.
Cant remember any other personals but i hope all the ladies are well.
AFM, i have made the decision to start weaning Adrian. It was kinda my choice but also part nature as Adrian has become very difficult to BF during the day, he is too busy looking around at stuff and will only latch on for about 2-3 mins before letting go and doesnt seem interested in sucking any more. He will only take a late night feed properly and even his early morning feed he doesnt seem very interested in. He will take a bottle very happily and sucks down about 200ml in 5 mins! So because he is not BF much during the day my milk production has decreased significantly. A few months ago if i went more than 4 hours without feeding my boobs would be ready to burst, now i can go up to 12 hours quite comfortable without expressing, so i think im only a hop, skip and jump away from that last step of stopping completely. I am kinda sad about it but also relieved to nearly have my body back to myself again. I was going to have to start weaning soon anyway as i wouldnt be able to keep it up after i return to work so its just a few months early. I hope i am doing the right thing for us.

Thanks for your advice everyone :) Today is Day 2 of us being on our own and I'm sure it will be much more productive! Angus went to bed around 9 last night and woke up at 3:30 for a feed. Then DH's alarm woke him up at 6:30 and after another feed he would have gone to sleep, but I changed his nappy and that really woke him up.
What does everyone else do with nappies overnight? I used to change them, but then I heard some other people saying that they didn't change them overnight - especially if they use the Huggies ones. But I've noticed he gets a tiny bit of nappy rash sometimes.
I have a question for those with boys. Angus has a two cracks in his skin at the base of his penis. I'm not sure if this is nappy rash or what? We haven't found a doctor yet, but maybe I should take him to one? There is a tiny amount of blood and I've been putting bepanthem on it.
Jellymaker - I tried just wrapping Angus' arms last night over the sleeping bag and it worked really well! Thanks for the tip. Good on you deciding to wean Adrian. I think if that is more comfortable for the both of you - you should definately go ahead. I don't enjoy bf at all and especially because I give him a top up after his play, so I end up feeding about every one and a half hours. Then when DH comes home there is no chance of bf because his eyes are glued to DH - he is such a Daddy's boy and misses him terribly in the day! Anyway, the only thing really holding me back from bottle feeding is having to prepare all the bottles and warm them up. So basically, I'm too lazy to do the switch :lol:
Well I dressed Angus in the cutest outfit today, so it looks like we are going to have to find somewhere to go! I might take him down to the community health centre and get him weighed or go to the shops :)

Our routine (using that word pretty loosely!) sounds similar to all of yours, most of DD's awake time starts with a feed, then time on her playmat, sitting facing me and raving away (I seem to waste many many hours just chatting with her and making stupid faces), reading books, blowing bubbles outside etc etc As for housework, my standards have dropped considerably! I used to be a neat freak but have chilled alot, no doubt will pick back up when she's crawling all over the floor. I used to get stressed out trying to do everything whilst she slept, now if she's awake half the time I pop her in her bouncer chair and take her round with me to whatever I'm doing. Lately I've been out in the garden so I rug her up and sit her in the shade and she loves taking it all in - is very amused by the dog too.
As for nappies overnight, I only change her if she's pooey or leaking wet, otherwise she waits till morning (we do use huggies) At her bedtime change we put on a thick layer of barrier cream to get her through the night, it's the only time we use nappy cream, and seems to do the job. I used to change her at each feed but realised when they sleep through we don't wake them to change them so stopped doing it. And thankfully it coincided with her not pooing overnight anymore, so she is just quite wet when she wakes up. I do tend to have a quick sniff at each of her 2 night feeds though just to check theres nothing lurking in there!
I'd better jet, she's telling me she's had enough of the playmat! Hope you all had a lovely weekend :)

Ok I am going to reply on subjects because my memory doesnt work well enough to remember who asked what! :)
Baby Sensory - SO. GOOD. I go to the class in Secret Harbour WA, but I think there might be a class in NSW somewhere (If you google Baby Sensory the website has all the info) This week we sang french songs, played with different bells and rattles and then we do group songs where everyone sits in a circle and the babies all sit in our laps. It doesnt sound that great, but trust me it is! I was not to sure after the first time I went, but now Tiah is a bit older she really enjoys it. The instructor also explains how each activity helps the baies develop and shows us different ways to play. Next week is showing us different things we can do aorund the house to encourage development...
Nappies Overnight - I tried to leave the nappies, but we had a few poonamis so we now do Feed, Burb, Change, Feed then she goes back down to sleep. She is very good at night now though, she will go back in her cot straight away and most times go back to sleep without a fuss.
Housework - MEH! I do what I can, mostly I only get washing done if I am lucky. DP complains a lot... but he doesnt help much with Tiah so he can bite me :) She comes in the pram outside to hang out washing with me and she loves it, and if I am feeling really housewifey she sits in her bouncer on the kitchen bench while I make dinner. My opinion is... the most important thing is that our babies get all the love and attention they need... screw the cleaning! (I have always hated housework though... I only realised where DP keeps the vacuum a few weeks ago) :rofl:
Well... I think my little girl may be getting a tooth, or at least teething badly :( She is chewing her hands like a little devil, and cries so sadly until I rub my finger on her lower gums at the front. Last night I had to give her panadol because she kept waking up crying and I am sure it was her gums. I have been giving her a cold cloth to suck and a teether... but she cries and cries until she gets me to put my finger in her mouth and she presses against it so hard!
We still havent given her any solids. I really want to wait until the six month mark, her dad is keen to start now though. She isnt showing any interest in our food or eating though? I think he is not really aware of what solids actually means though, I caught him giving her mint ice cream off his finger tonight... :wall:

OMG :o We had a horrible night last night. I needed to do some grocery shopping and I asked DH if he wanted to come or stay home with Angus. He wanted to come, so we went at about 6:30 (last feed was at 5). Towards the end he was very settled, so when we got home an hour later, I fed him and tried to put him to sleep. He showed no interest in sleeping and an hour later, I gave him to DH. DH gave him some infants friend and then panadol and then had to change his nappy. During nappy change Angus was looking at me giving the biggest smiles and then when DH turned away to put the nappy in the bin he did a big wee all over his clothes. After DH changing his clothes, he vomited all over his arm and had to be changed again! He eventually went to sleep, but he's driving me insane :wall::wall:
Meercat - your sensory classes sound really good. We are starting gymbaroo tommorow, so I wonder what that will be like. How is your ball pit going?? DH and I were looking at them at KMart the other day, although we weren't sure about them. Definately getting a jumparoo from Target on Thursday though.
B - does Ewan go to sleep on his own, or do you have to rock him? We bounce Angus on the gym ball and usually he goes to sleep then if he doesn't fall asleep during his last feed. I'm not sure what to do - sometimes he goes down really easily, but not usually. Angus' cracks cleared up after a few applications of bepanthem.

Meercat I didn't realise you were in WA. After you commented on Baby Sensory awhile back I looked it up, and just the other day emailed about going. Might end up seeing you there! I'm not sure of the costs or if there are vacancies yet - just waiting to hear back.

Hey Girls - sorry have been MIA for a bit. We are moving up near Goondiwindi in Queensland, so have been organising all of that!
Does anyone else feel like they are going backwards at the moment? I was blessed with Matilda who was sleeping through from just 3 weeks (I know I shouldn't complain), in the last few weeks, she has gone back to waking up a few times a night again WTF? It is soooooo annoying. Oh and getting really really hard to settle in the evenings last night we had a battle from 7 pm until 11 pm - then she woke again at 2 and 5. Could it be a growth spurt? Or do you think she is sensing that something big is happeningg because of boxes being packed and stuff?
Oh also can't walk out of the room from lunch time onwards and leave her play she gets the s.....
Not to complain but she is sending me insane at the moment.

Bec - that's exactly what Angus is doing! :o He never slept through the night consistently, but used to do it more often than not. We just moved to and we had to stay in a serviced apartment for 2 weeks, but he was good through that - so I don't think the move was a trigger for Angus. I'm hoping it is just a growth spurt and I was speaking to a lady today with a six month old and she said she had the same problem, but now the baby goes to sleep on her own.
We went to Gymbaroo today :) I met a few new people and one woman invited me along to her new mother's group which was nice. Her parenting class is going to start one after their group finishes, but I am doing the same class in my area next week (I did one in Brisbane too). Hopefully, I will learn some new strategies to deal with sleep time for Angus! ;)
Hope everyone is having a good day and if good luck if you are going to Target tommorow. I think we will leave early in the morning when DH goes to work (around 8). I really want to get one of those Jumparoo's!

The big sale is on today!!!!!! Woo hoo!!!!!! Been waiting for it for aaaaaages. I hope they don't sell out of those jumperoos by the time I get there.....I hope it's not going to be super crazy at the checkout, I hate long lines!
Bec, such is the world of little people!!!!! Big hugs hun, but libe b said it is probably a stage and she'll grow out of it quickly. You ARE very lucky for Matilda to have slept through since 3 weeks old, I had to wait till about 3 months I think! The 2 am and 6 am feeds used to drive me up the wall. Now I feed him at 9-10 pm (dream feed) and then at about 5 am. I am wondering if bub is picking up on your anxiety a bit too? Not so much from the house move, but from being frasturated with her atm????? I know that b/c I am having issues with feeding Cam (he STILL fusses with his bottles) he picks up on my stress and it makes it worse feeding him. Mum will happily feed him w/o any probs. Even DF is coping heaps less than me, although he does play up with him as well sometimes which makes me feel a bit better. It's not 100% me!!!! I'm sure she'll go back to sleeping through the night again soon, big hugs hun!
Nat, I'm glad you're liking your gymbaroo classes. I should look into it. Cam and I don't do too much outside the house :doh: Ha ha about Angus having a ripper day with peeping/chucking at the same time! Cam liked to pee on me in the middle of the night when I was out of it and not bothering to cover his sausage. These days I tell him not to pee on mummy and it seems to be working, ha ha! Yesterday he did a spew when I changed him out of his night attire ;) which was OK as I was changing him into his trackies anyway, but then he spewed on that too so a second outfit change!!!! He haaaaaaates being changed which doesn't help.
B, is biting bub's fingers/fists really a sign of teething? Cam's been really into it lately, but I read somewhere that it's not necessarily a sign of teething, it's just that they are discovering their hands and like to eat them! I suspect it might be teething as when he does it he makes this whingey noise like it's sore/itchy, but when I check his gums there are no bumps yet......he is starting to dribble heaps, maybe that's another sign????? Should I be giving him any teething meds?
Meercat, ouch for the sore gummies!!!!! Poor little Tiah, it must be so sore for the little munchkin. Hope it passes soon! So funny about the vaccum! I used to be a super duper clean freak, not any more!! It's driving me insane as I'd like to be able to clean more often....oh well, can't win with everything!
HB, I'm still doing the stupid faces!! I can't believe how much effort it takes to entertain a little bub sometimes. You find something that makes them laugh, yay!!!! Next day, it's not funny anymore :shakehead:
Jelly, good on you for making the decision to wean off Adrian. I'm sure it's not easy, but hey, you need to stay happy and sane!
Thanks girls for replying on the routines, feeding etc. Feeding is still an issues, but getting a bit better. Cam had his needles on Tuesday, I was really dreading the day, but he took them really well except he was really sooky that night and a bit yesterday. I just gave him panadol for the first 24 hours after, which is what I did the first time. The first time he screamed with pain (and I cried) but he didn't seem that bad afterwards at home. This time it was reversed!
I'm thinking about starting solids soon, any suggestions where I should start???? I think he's bored with the milk a bit, especially in the mornings. I know you can get the farax or something like that????
Ok, off to bed for an hour, then shower and Target!!! Yay!!!!

Thanks Nat, B and Beata - yeah I am thinking it is just a phase (hopefully). Driving me insane and I am dreading bedtime now - so she is probably picking up on that too. I am not going to get to the Target sales - I did Big W and it is just too hard with moving tomorrow.
B - Matilda does the biting of hands and fists and has done so for a little while. She is doing the one at the moment where she doesn't realise if you put your fingers too far, you gag!!!
Beata - one of my friends told me you usually start with Farex and mix with a bit of formula or breast milk - I am not sure of the amounts and stuff, but maybe that is what I should start thinking about too. Time is flying along.
Anyway, I will be off here again for a little bit with the move and setting up internet again. All the best girls. Chat to you later.

becc - good luck with the moving. if it helps babies go thru a growth spurt between 3-4 months which makes them a bit unsettled. Hamish did that. was a bit annoying
b - Hamish is always biting and sucking on his fists and hands. yay for ewan starting solids!!
nat - we arent doing the toy sales at all. we did the kmart one the other week but that was because DH saw some star wars lego that he just had to have.
night nappies - we use cloth and i boost it for overnight. finding that Hamish is a heavy wetter so what i am using isnt lasting him and he is outpeeing it most mornings!!

afm, Hamish is busy teething at the moment. i think that other tooth next to the one thats come up will come up soon too. plenty of pink cheeks and buckets of dribble at the moment!!! not much else happening really. getting ready to go back to work in september. soooo not looking forward to that.
