Hi Girls,

Re: the baby bath, I put Liam in the big bath at about 4-5-wks as the baby bath we were given was just too small, he likes to push off the side with his feet and kept hitting his head the poor little dear. DH or I usually get in the bath with him. I also have this plastic seat like recliner thing that has suction caps on the feet that goes in the bath, so if one of us aren't in there with him he can rest on that while I wash him down as it can be hard work holding him while knealing over the bath.

Teresa, I hope Hamish gets better soon. I'm sorry to hear you are feeling lonely, it's hard when you suddenly have a baby and some of your close friends don't, its like you live in two different worlds. I have been trying to speak to my best friend now for something like 3-4 weeks and we keep missing each other (she also lives in another state), she mostly calls me when Liam is whingey at the end of the day, usually on her way home from work. Be patient with your close friend, she is obviously going through a really hard time and you have what she desperatley wants - a baby. I lost a little girl at 19-wks and was in forums with ladies that have lost babies and the re-occuring thing people would say is it is really hard when people around them fall pg and have healthy babies and they are struggling, I am sure that she is happy for you, just sad for herself, if that makes sense. Hang in there, I'm sure she really cares for you and will come round when she is feeling stronger.

Meercat, I just got a grobag from Bambini Pronto as well. I haven't used it yet. Are they meant to be quite close to the baby's neck? I got a 0-6 months and I put in on Liam today and there isn't much room around the neck and his only 10-weeks. I'm a bit concerned that he will outgrow it too quickly or be uncomfortable in it. Does this sound right? Also, glad that Tiah has slept well after her immunisation. Liam had his today and so far he has been sleeping well. The poor thing screamed so loudly, the doctor commented on how loud he was (in a nice way) and how good his lungs were!

Con, good advise on expressing one boob to gauge how much milk I have. He usually finished one bood and then seems to spend and half that time on the second one, so I can make a guesstimate. Will try feeding from the bottle this week. I have already bought Avent bottles, so I'll see how they go. Also thanks for your advise as well Meercat. I have already expressed one bottle of about 120ml, so I'll see how that goes. I had no idea that baby's could be full but still drink from the bottle with B/F, so thanks for that ladies.

Beata, sounds like you are doing a great job with Cam. It must be hard with a windy baby, they can get so uncomfortable can't they, the poor things. I'm sure this will pass soon. I read that babies that have a lot of wind usually improve at about 12-weeks, so hang in there. Liam is windy, but it all comes out of his botttom - lol, he is such a little stinker at times and when I'm B/F, I just can't escape it he just happily farts and feeds away!

B - it sucks that they think it's ok just to not talk anymore. I really wish my friend would realise that she is hurting me by avoiding me tho. I feel like I have done something wrong.

for those of you having problems with notifications- have you tried going to the 'quick links' at the top of the page- go to subscribed threads and it will bring up your threads. Next to each subscribed thread there is a box to tick for instant notification. I'm not sure if that will fix it, but it's worth a go!

becc- Wow, 57cm and 5.1kg- that's great! It's so awesome you have a very good sleeper- it makes the world of difference, trust me! My first dd was a terrible sleeper...the worst type, you know, screamed all night from 12am until 4am. Lucky for me Grace is a good sleeper, and i find myself looking forward to a nights sleep instead of dreading it!

meercat- i have a baby bath for grace. It has a ridge at the bottom, but that's what grace loves about it. She rests her butt against it and rests her head on the newborn section. She kick her little legs like crazy! She won't go to sleep any other way than snuggled on my shoulder or chest. I think it's cause thats the way she was in my tummy! (breech)

Teresa- sorry to hear Hamish has a cold! It's hard when they are little and sick. I hope he feels better soon!

Berry- lol on bub farting when breastfeeding! I have the same thing. We can be sitting there and dh, dd and ds are gooing and garing over grace and then she poops/farts and everyone runs out the room and leaves me there! I know it stinks, but it doesn't really bother me as much as them!

Afm, i had grace's 2month check today. I think she must be the smallest baby in here cause she is only 4.2kg and 57cm long. The midwife said she is the perfect size for the percentile she is in. She is just going to be a petite little girl!

Con - good to see grace is a perfect size percentile wise, Matilda is becoming a bit of a chubber (cute way), but she has been on the bottle, so that is prob the difference.

teresa - I can understand your friend, in a way. We tried to get pregnant for almost 2 years (start to finish 2 1/2 years), it was really hard and in the end I was getting to the avoidance stage, not intentionally, but it gets hard to put on a brave face. But good friends are different, so if she is a good friend, it shouldn't make a difference for her to see you and your bub. I am with B on this one, she may not be worth it. I am too getting a bit lonely. Our closest town is 30 km away and our closest family is 10 hours drive, so am getting a bit "over" being here and now really want to be closer to good friends and family. Can see myself going insane in a few months - I am loving my time at home with Matilda, but I'm sure people can see where I am coming from.

Hi Berry - you must be new on here since my last visit (prior to last), welcome. When was Liam born?

Meercat - the bath thing - I have been having one with Matilda or my DH has been having a shower with her and she loves it. We do have a baby bath that I bought at Target, but lengthwise, she will be growing out of it soon. We got a bath stand too, but still that is doing my back in! I tend to not leave her in it long and then she gets cranky! (I really think she has my personaility!).

Hi B! How are the two kiddies going? How is your daughter liking having Ewan around?

thanks bec and b. my friend and i have had our issues and after 2 years of not talking, finally started talking again 3 years ago. i am hoping things do improve soon.

afm, Hamish's cold is a little worser today. His cough sounds quite wet (if that makes sense) and i have gotten out my stethascope to listen to his chest to see if i can hear any crackles or wheezes lol. thats the nurse in me! if he is no better by tomorrow then i will get an appointment with my gp. giving him more frequent feeds and regular panadol. also putting lots of euky bear rub on his chest so that he can breathe a bit better. he has slept most of the day, mainly in my arms! every time i put him down in his cot he wakes up and wants to go back into my arms. not that i mind, just means i cant vacuum or mop today. the floors look horrible! Honey goes outside, digs, or runs thru the wet grass, then tramples it back inside. thank goodness we have tiles thru out the whole living areas. only carpets in the bedrooms. better go. little man is getting cranky on his play mat and almost time for more cuddles.

Teresa - I hope Hamish is feeling better soon, maybe a nice warm bath too and plenty of hugs!

I have to go too, have Matilda lighting up the monitor!

Just a quick post from me, will save personals for tomorrow.

Wanted to let everyone know (yeah ok I'm having a bit of a brag right now) but my baby Harrison will be appearing on the Today show tomorrow morning (Thursday 27th) between 8 and 9am!!! Was so excited to get the email from them saying they would be including 'beautiful Harrison' on the show :D

I hope you're all doing well, hope baby Hamish gets better poor fella.

Hi Bec, thank you for the welcome. Liam was born on the 16th March, the same days as Beata's little boy, so he was 10-weeks old yesterday.

Con, Grace is such a beautiful name for a lovely petitie little girl, although 57cm sounds quite long for 8-weeks(?), she must be very fine boned. Liam has never been 'tiny', he was 53cm at birth, is 60cm now and weighs a whooping 6.3kg, although he doesn't look overaly chubby, just has a lovely round tummy!

Teresa, I hope Hamish improves soon.

Liam seems to have coped fine with his jabs, slept will last night and was 'normal' today.

b- Ive given Adrian the novalac twice now but havent seen any big changes yet, will keep it up though. BTW when you mix up your formula is it completely dissolved or can you still see little particles?

re- bathing- i started bathing Adrian in the sink when he was little but now bath him in baby bath on the kitchen bench so it is easy to drain, or in the tub with me. Once when he had a spew fountain all over DH all 3 of us went under the shower together. I was worried he wouldnt like the water in his face but he loved it, DH held him tho as i was scared i would drop the slippery little sucker!

teresa- i understand your friend being upset as when DH and i were doing ivf it seemed everyone around me was falling pregnant at the drop of a hat, it didnt stop me seeing them however so maybe its your friends issue, not yours, so try not to let it bother you

AFM- Adrian is fine and had no troubles from his shots thankfully, he is now 6.5 kg and 6ocm long, my hefty boy! DH gave me Gina Ford's Contented Little Baby Book for mothers day and ive been reading it but its making me a little angry and i find a lot of her advice 'over the top' and finicky and would be near impossible to follow to the letter. I just been taking things as they come at the moment and I seem to be doing fine with B/F and sleeping and now that her book says im doing things wrong i start to question myself and my confidence starts to waver. Has anyone else read this book or is it just me that finds her advice very 'my way or the highway'? I think there should be a rule that you dont read baby books once the baby is born as so many are contradictory and confusing and just make young mothers feel like they are failing.

DH has been away the last two nights and its been a bit lonely as gooing and garring over Adrian starts to turn my brain to mush after a while, cant wait til he comes home tomorrow and i can have some grown up conversation, not to mention a little hanky panky (LOL) Personal question- has anyone found their partners a little apprehensive about initiating sex? I told DH straight up that now since im not pregnant or full of stitches he shouldnt hold back from asking for it as i likely wont turn him down. He says he doesnt wanna pressure me incase im tired etc, which is considerate but i dont like being the one to always start things off as a girl likes to be desired and pursued IYKWIM I guess i'll just wait and see.

Gonna go and read some more book and hope i dont eventually burn it to make myself feel better LOL

jelly, burn that book! go with ur gut feelings and if ur feeling the advice is wrong, chances are it is! if u have a search of that book in this forum, u won't find very many supporters of it. it works for some, but seems a harsh way of doing things IMO. that's my 2cents! lol

Jelly - I am so the same about the whole s... thing. I wish my DH would initiate now - but isn't as I think he is a bit worried about if it is hurting me or not! Even though I tell him it is not. So feeling a bit undesired!! Mind you am getting plenty of sleep!!

Misswah - I missed him, I must have been out hanging out the washing then! Sorry, I would have stayed inside had I known, didn't read your post until after.

Teresa - there is a new product out there called Milk Baby - it is by Michael Klim's wife and they have the sniffle spray (for the room). Don't know if it works. I have the sleeping one and it smells great and seems to work for that! Hope he is alright


Ree Ree - have you been missing in action too?

Berry - Matilda had her jabs at 7 weeks, did you get the Whooping Cough jab yourself? My DH and I did, we then got the notifcation in the mail from medicare advising people to get it.

Has anyone else got it?

B - am going to be cooking Spinich and Ricotta Cannaloni for dinner - have got the spinich out already!!

Anyway, going to mum's group this morning, our last official one. So don't knowif it will continue, only a small group.

berry- i looked at my measurements from yesterday and grace is 54cm, not 57! duhhhh, my mistake! her head is 37cm!

Jelly- keep doind what is best for you and bub. I done the same- went onto the breastfeeding ass. website and read the info and paniced! But i realise what i am doing is perfect for grace...i just took the bits that i thought i could use out of it and forgot about the rest! fyi- man, some of the mums on there are really dedicated to b/f! I couldnt imagine b/f a 3yr old AND a newborn at the same time!

Morning all, I'm hoping you can help me..... DD currently sleeps at night in a bassinette next to our bed, making it really easy for our 2 night time feeds, she settles really well in there when first going to bed and goes straight back to sleep after a feed during the night. The first few weeks, her day sleeps were pretty much wherever she fell asleep, then we thought maybe we should start sleeping her in her bassinette. This works well too (when she sleeps - our day sleeping pattern is pretty all over the place) and I have recently thought I should start transitioning her to sleep in her cot in her bedroom during the day. This way when the time comes to make the total move at night she will be familiar with the cot/bedroom and it will be no problems (yeah right haha) She hates it! Takes a really long time to settle, if at all, and I can't just let her CIO either. If she does fall asleep she wakes easily and doesn't settle back off like she does in the bassinette. I use the same sleep bag and play soft music (we have noisy neighbours) so the sleep cues are still the same.... I know it takes time to accept a change, but does anyone have any pointers for me? I've considered sitting the bassinette in the cot for a week or so and see if that works....or is that crazy??

hmmm, that's a tough one beata. With my older kids i started by putting them in the cot for the daytime sleeps so they could get used to it before attempting nights- pretty much what your doing. Grace has been in her cot from day one because she hated the bassinette. I think sitting the bassinette in the cot is worth a try, it might just be the new surroundings are unfamilier and she needs to adjust. Sorry i can't help you much!

hb - try putting an item of clothing of yours in the cot to give her your smell. HTH

HB - I have this little wedge thing someone gave me from Kmart I think. I put it in the basinette with Tiah when she slept in there, as it keeps her secure and stops her from wriggling around too much. When I moved her into the cot I put her in the wedge again and she didnt have any problems. It makes her feel a bit more enclosed I think if that makes sense?

jelly - i tried reading the contented baby book by gina ford and disagreed so much with it. i thought that for Hamish's age, 3 hours sleep during the day was a load of junk. every baby is different. besides i thought she was quite forceful with her opinions if that makes sense. i am currently reading pinky mckays books and she supports more gentle parenting and to do what works for u. she doesnt force her opinions on u at all and makes u feel more confident with however u r parenting your baby.

well the locum came and saw Hamish last night. was quite happy with the care i was giving him. he has mild bronchiolits. if i think he is getting worse then i am to get him reviewed today. so far so good. everytime i put him in his cot last night he kept waking up so i got the basinette down, placed a couple of towels under the head area, put it on the floor next to my bed. he slept for 4 hours before waking for a bottle. then slept for another 3 hours. i had honey jumping down off the bed every now and then last night to check on him. she thought it was weird that he was sleeping on the floor. hehe cute dog. found that the regular panadol i have been giving him is staining his cloth nappy bamboo inserts a grey colour!! oh well it will eventually wash out. so for anyone using mcn's panadol stains them!
