meercat- I am the same...if grace is unsettled and someone is nursing her i usually settle her down and then i pass her back. She has been a real little mummy's girl of late, sometimes she won't even settle for her daddy! I haven't left her with anyone at all yet, i take her everywhere with me. (when i go out that is).
~b~- Yay on the pt! It sounds like fun...painful, but fun! lol! I have been walking in the afternoon, seems to be doing some good. I have been losing a steady 1kg per week for the past month. 4 kg down, 5kg to go!!!!
misssawah- hope your ummm *bits* are feeling better soon!
Jelly- I think there are a few rashes babies can get. Grace has had a milk rash, which is perfectly normal and goes away pretty quick. Some bubs also get heat rash, which is more commen with summer newborns.
Human bean- what is the name of the book you are reading?
Meercat and ~b~ - we have grobags already but Fraser will not sleep in them. He still has to be swaddled VERY TIGHTLY cos as soon as his hands get anywhere near his face, he wakes himself up.

Con (and ~b~) - yay on the weightloss. I'm so unmotivated. Think I will wait until I stop expressing then I can concentrate on it more. I hardly eat anything through the days as I just have no appetite (and I think that's the problem) but the weight seems to be at a standstill. Saying that, I'm 5 kg heavier than I was before I got pregnant and I don't think that's too bad at all.

Well, not wanting to tempt fate, but we have had a great few days. Fraser is really settled on his formula now, but he is super tired all the time! Not that it's a bad thing, as they do all their growing when they are asleep. I just feel that I don't want his mental development to miss out, but I'm sure that he'll be fine! We're hardly getting any time after he is fed to play - he's just showing his tired signs straight away, then I pop him into his cot and within a few mins, he's fast asleep! Bless him! Long may it continue!
~b~ I think i gained around 18 kg during pregnancy - just a lot of it came off when Fraser was born and I have gradually dropped a few kgs over the last few weeks. I wish I was 10 kg lighter though! Have you asked for your avvie to be changed? I wasn't sure whether to or not. Hoping that Ewan settles in the grobag when it arrives and hope your P&T arrives soon!
Grrrrr... my long awaited HugABub arrived. DP said he would help me figure out how it works..... he is so impatient he tried to force Tiah into it while she was crying and then shouted at me when I told him to give her a break because she was getting upset...

good afternoon ladies. hope everyone and their bubs are well
well we went to the zoo yesterday. Hamish was awake to have a look around but is still too young to really understand where we were and all the animals. we have the pandas at our zoo now and there was soooo much hype that i am still wondering after seeing them, what all the hype was about. yeah sure they are cute but there are other animals at the zoo!! we did buy a panda for him which is currently sitting up next to his border collie stuffed toy and his stuffed toy lemur. oh and how cute are lemurs!! they are gorgeous.
Hamish's appetite is certainly getting bigger. he now finishes most of his 180mls in his bottles!! plus we think he is still hungry so we are going to try him on some rice cereal tonight to see how he goes. maybe he might sleep all night! can only wish. hehe
for all those mums who have kids already before their little ones now, when did u start them on solids? i am still not sure but he seems to be hungry more now. plus he keeps sucking his fist all the time and i heard that is generally an indication that he needs more. we have another appointment with the paediatrician tomorrow so i will ask her then too. hopefully this is the last one. my brothers boy who was also premmie is having follow ups all the time. not sure what is happening there as i dont speak to him. he stil hasnt come to meet Hamish. grrrrr. so not speaking to him anymore.
hey girls - sorry I have been MIA lately, I tried to go into this site about a week ago and it went all distorted (I was having computer probs, once again~)
Well the day sleep thing, I am letting Matilda stay up for 1 1/2 hours max each time, i get her up, change her and feed her, then play then as it is getting closer to the 1 1/2 hours I wrap her up again and put her back down. She seems to know now that it is bed time then and during the day I am getting about 4 hours from when she wakes previously. The only thing is from abut 4.00 pm onwards to say 8.30 pm she is awake and really unsettled from 6.30 pm onwards. But will then sleep until anywhere from 5.00 am to 7.30 am - so she is a great sleeper. During the day I am not even looking out for tired signs because I work on that hour and a half period. she also does wake up during that time, but my friend told me before I had her that they wake in cycles like us. and the Ped confimed this when she was born and told me that they are on about 20 min cycles or something, so she may not really be awake when she looks it. So I took that on board and if she wakes in that time I leave her. She usually is straight back asleep.
I used to leave her longer than that time and was looking out for signs but they were really mixed and then she was really cranky and harder to get to sleep, So the 1 1/2 hour thing is really working for us.
Sorry if it sounds like I am gloating, not meant to be, just telling you what I do.
Misswah - sounds like Hems. You can get internal and external. TMI - you can get the applicator that injects up there from the chemist. I had them and it worked wonders!
Growbags - are the bomb - I have one and Matilda just loves it!
Still on formula here, just using s26 newborn - not the gold or anything now and there is heaps less throwing up.
I have a long bub too. Early last week - at a bit over 7 weeks she was 59 cm and 5.1 kg! My DH is 6 ft 3 and there is height on my side too (I am 5 ft 8) so I think she will be a decent height.

Hey everyone! Just got back from getting Tiah's immunisations and she has gone straight to sleep so I can actually type a reply for once!
31becc - I am going to try the 1 1/2 hour thing with Tiah! I am waiting for tired signs and her day routine is all over the shop! We have the cranky time from about 5 - 9pm.... and then sleep until 5-6am... but in saying that cranky for Tiah is really just her wanting cuddles and being vocal when she is put down.
human bean - I was offerring Tiah a bottle of expressed milk each night, but it became such a nightmare I stopped I am going to be trying to re introduce the bottle in the next few days, but I must admit it is nice knowing she only wants the boobie! She has started stroking my back while she feeds.... omg I think it is wrong how much I love that! haha
Con - So cool that Grace loves the bath! Do you just have her in the bath with you or one of the baby baths? I got a tummy tub when I was pregnant - but even though she likes it now... I find it hard to actually wash her in it! So I got a fisher price bath from Big W and it is CRAP.. it has this hard ridge in the middle that digs into her back and she hates it!
b - I laughed so hard at your "expensive shag". I went to get the mini pill from the pharmacy last week and totally forgot to pick it up! I really will have to go get it one day......
berry - I was told to express 100 - 120ml each time and then keep them in those sizes. That way if they want more you can get another lot out, but if they only want 100mls you are not wasting any ebm???
Teresa - I dont get notifications either! Actually - I get them for B and for Con... and thats all! Very weird?
Tiah has just started letting us hold her over our shoulders (Up until now it was cradle hold ONLY) and it is so nice to get those cuddles or lay on the couch with her on my chest. She is very smiley and we had a bubble afternoon yesterday... I just set her up on the back lawn and we blew bubbles around the yard until she started to get sleepy.... she loved it - I think there was even an attempt at a giggle at one point
Oh and ladies? Bambini Pronto has grobags for $25 off atm. I got two for Tiah and might get some summer ones as well while they are cheap, they really are awesome!
meercat - my mum bought us our bath. i think she got it from big w and its a roger armstrong one. there is no ridges in the bottom at all. only problem is hamish is getting too long for it and will have to be put in the big bath soon. but for now it does the trick! its white and has blue soft grips on both sides of the bath. doesnt help me much as when its full i cant lift it! so i fill and empty it with a bucket. lol. thank god its got a plug so all i have to do is drag it to the end of the table then put the bucket underneath.

afm, Hamish has a cold. gave him a bath before and put some euky bear rub on his chest to help with his breathing. has a congested chest and a runny nose. will have to keep an eye on that. went to lunch with a friend from work today. was telling her that i was feeling lonely at the moment and i dont hear from any of my friends. she said that she will call me next week and we will catch up more often. she has a little girl who is 9 months old. one of my closest friends is really struggling with getting pg and keeps miscarrying. anyway she seems to be avoiding me at the moment. every time i mention we should catch up she says she is really tired or busy. then the other night i said that i missed her and we should catch up soon so she puts up a link for a gymbaroo thats 25 mins away from my house. she said that i could take Hamish there and go meet other mums with kids. it would be nice and i know she had good intentions but i dont think that she realises she is hurting me by avoiding me. sorry for the rant but just having a down moment. i am finding very few of my friends are keeping in contact now.

Meercat - that's great news about Tiah and her hands. Angus has started to do the same and at first I thought he was doing it because he was hungry! I went and saw Sex in the City 2 as well! I went with my best friend and we had dinner and a ****tail beforehand, so I didn't get home until after midnight (6 hours later).
Misssawah - Good luck for Harrison's Naming Day. We are having an afternoon tea afterwards at our house. I was going to do it in a hall near the Chapel but I was worried about transporting all the food. We're just having a few quiches, sandwiches and other finger food. Hopefully it will be ok as there are a few kids coming and our yard isn't that big.
Jellymaker - Lucky you getting him to sleep the whole night. We were thinking about starting to establish more of a night time routine - and even putting Angus into a cot when we move in two weeks. Although we are going to Canberra in the middle of winter, so I'm not sure if I want him in his own room just yet!
Con - I hope the immunisation went ok. Angus turned 2 months today, but we missed out on the times at the community health centre, but we will go to the local library on Thursday morning. Also, hope you had fun at your mummy classes!
Berry - Angus is doing the same with lots of cooing and smiling - I love it! Also, I had been trying to get him to look up and strengthen his neck muscles when he is having tummy time. He didn't really respond when DH and I were trying to talk to him, but as soon as I put his mirror (one of those lamaze ones) he kept lifting his head to look! This morning he even pushed himself up on his arms to get a good look and then gave himself a big smile - definately his father's son!
AFM - I used to feel bad leaving Angus on his own during play time, but I've left him on the mat a couple of times while I do other things and he really entertains himself, which is great. The inlaws are coming to stay for a week on thursday Hopefully they help a bit more because last time MIL never once offered to cook and expected me to wait on her up until I was induced at 42wks (which of coarse I didn't - but still..) DH's other 4 children will be staying with us on the weekend as well and that will be exciting as they haven't met there little brother yet!
Nat- i always copy my work before hitting post as i HATE losing my posts!!! Adrian has always slept in the cot in his room but now the nights are getting colder i bought a small convection heater that i will put in the hall outside his room to warm up that end of the house. Thankfully if Adrian keeps sleeping through i wont have to get out of my warm bed all night but that 5-6am feed is still pretty chilly! Adrian coos and gurgles heaps and his gummy smiles light up my day, he tries to smile while i feed him though and my boob pops out of his mouth! LOL Adrian goes both ways in that he loves to be cuddled and is a real snuggle bug, but at other times just wants to be left alone to kick on his mat. My mum didnt believe me when he was having a grump and i told her to just put him down but she did and voila! He settled immediatley. Glad Angus is growing so well. I sometimes think Adrian is a little too strong as when he fights against me it is really hard to hold on to him!
Berry- I am still BF Adrian and on demand so its hard to tell as we dont have set times to feed, usually when he cries, but I would say anywhere between 6-8 full feeds a day? I usually feed him up fully right before i put him down at about 9-10ish but am trying to keep him awake a little longer so he sleeps til later in the morning. I would say feel free to give him more to eat, and see what happens, it cant hurt, its not like babies are goldfish and will forget they just ate, they will stop if they dont want anymore

Jellymaker, you are doing really well given you are demand feeding. I am as well to an extent, just don't let him go longer than 4-hrs without a feed and I give him the 9pm feed while his still asleep. I use to offer both sides that feed, but he only ever fed one side, so I gave up and just put him back to bed. May start offering again and see what he does.
Nat, like the mirror idea. May try it during tummy time as well. Liam is so strong he has been holding his head up pretty much since day one. He is now holding it up for quite a while and looking around. How cute that Angus smiled at himself. I leave Liam on his playmat on his own at least once a day, usually first thing in the morning while I'm running around putting washing on etc. I think its good for him to entertain himself. He is usually happy on his own for about 20-mins. I play with him a lot during the day, so I think its fine, he certainly lets me know when his not happy! Good-luck with the In-laws, I hope they are helpful this visit. Sounds like you have a lot on your plate, so don't go running around for them will you, remember your the one with the newborn. I hope the 'sibling introduction' goes well. Sounds like your going to have a full house!
Well I tried putting Liam in his grobag for the first time tonight, and it was a disaster! He fell asleep after his feed and I was about to put him down when his fist goes straight into his mouth and then he wakes up crying. He is usually wrapped, so he can't do that. Was so annoying. Ended up taking him out of it and wrapping him. Will try it another time. Must say the grobag seems quite small around the neck area, its a 0-6mth size, but I am doubting he'll fit into it up to 6-months. I'm starting to think that maybe I shouldn't have bought him one just yet.
well its so cold here at the moment. we are leaving the heater on overnight just to keep the house warm. by morning the house is so nice and toasty that i turn the heater off around 7 and it gets turned back on around 6 that night. i really hate winter. much prefer summer time!!
well Hamish is 17 weeks old today. need to make an appointment for next week for his 4 month needles. definately not looking forward to that. i hated the 2 month ones!!
well Hamish flipped from his tummy to his back last friday. it was so exciting. he is also soooo close to rolling from his back to his tummy. i dont think it will be much longer before he does.
Hamish has been putting his fists in his mouth now for weeks. i thought it meant he was hungry so thats why we tried him on rice cereal. he is definately not ready for solids yet. lol i didnt realise it meant he had discovered his hands.
i am having so much trouble with a friend of mine. she keeps avoiding me and had a couple of snarky comments made to me yesterday on facebook. one that didnt make any sense regarding my status update, and the other one having a go at me for not going to the movies with her on saturday night. she asked me last monday night if i wanted to go on the weekend but said she would get back to me on the day. i hadnt heard from her by friday so we made plans for saturday night, then saturday at lunch time she sms'd me to see if i wanted to go out that night. i told her i was busy but how about sunday arvo. she said she was free. never heard back from her. anyway i left a mesage on her fb profile yesterday about going to the movies this weekend and she started complaining coz she was soooo busy over the weekend coming and the only day she had free was last saturday cos she kept it free. she keeps avoiding us because of Hamish. she desperately wants a baby but is having trouble and keeps miscarrying. its really upsetting me at the moment.
i am waiting for the night nappies to come into stock at baby beehinds so that i can try them out on Hamish. i put the microfibre insert into the pea pods but it doesnt really make too much a difference at the moment with Hamish sleeping thru. he is just a hungry monkey i think!!! i am hoping that by using the night nappy that he will sleep thru the night then. he gets close to doing it. depends on what time he goes down to sleep.
afm, af finished last saturday after being really heavy (i heard thats normal), anyway DH and i DTD monday night and yesterday i had some bleeding (only small amount) and then today i had some more. i am guessing its not normal but just want to know if anyone else has had this issue before or is it normal and i am just wrong?
I am starting to feel guilty for eating junk lately given that some of you are making great progress with losing weight! Jellymaker, I can't believe you only put on 7.5kg - wow! I put on 13kg and have 2.5kg to lose to get back to pre-preggo weight but was at my heaviest when I fell pg so could do with losing about 6kg all up. Thinking of getting a personal trainer once a week for about 2-months to see if that helps me get to my goal or at least close to it. B, I think its you that is doing grp P/T have you found that it is making a difference and do you do it in a gym or park? I'm not a member of a gym right now and was hoping to do it in the park near me, but hope that I get as good of a workout as you would in a gym.
Thanks for the reco of Bambini Pronto too, for those that mentioned they use it. I just had a look and bought a few things including a Grobag, hope DS likes it! Swimmer nappies are also on sale if anyone is interested, about $13, I got one for DS for when it gets warmer again, as we'll start swimming lessons around then. I'm quite excited about that.
Teresa, well-done for Hamish weighing over 6kg, that is great news. It sounds like you have been on quite a journey with him being born early.
B, did you watch Modern Family? I really liked it, is very funny, especially the gay couple.
Human Bean, I wish DS would go to sleep in his sling! He did when he was really little, but I am having trouble at the mo with his. I have a Close Baby Carrier and it doesn't support their head unless they are tucked into your chest and DS wants to look around, and while he is quite strong, he stills needs neck support. I figure it will be better when he is big enough to turn around and face out. Does anyone else have this carrier or know of it? Would be curious to know how others find it.
DS is settling to sleep much better these days. I wonder if he is just getting 'use to how to go to sleep', if that makes any sense. About 2-wks ago it was taking me about 40-mins sometimes longer to rock him to sleep but in the last few days I have only rocked him for about 2-5 mins and he is out like a light. He has also started waking up during his sleeps sometimes, but is putting himself back to sleep - if we leave him for a while. Fingers crossed things stay like this and continue to improve, I am finding he changes his 'routine' reguarly.
Well Hamish is teething! Had to give him some nurofen at my aunties today (I left panadol at home) and he really settled well. Much better then when I give him panadol! poor little fella.
Went out with MIL and FIL today for lunch and they bought us a high chair for Adrian. We were so excited to put it together but after a half an hour of not understanding the instructions and scratching our heads we realised the manufacturer built it back to front!!!!! gonna take it back to the store and ask for a new one that isnt put together wrong! Very annoyed but relieved it wasnt us not understanding simple instructions. LOL
Adrian is sounding very funny as after having a mild cough for a few days, he seems to be losing his voice. He seems fine otherwise and doesnt have a temperature or anything so im not sure if i should do anything? I cant think there are any treatments for babies losing their voice? Does anyone have any advice? He seems perfectly healthy otherwise but just thought id ask.
He is booked in to get his immunisations on monday morning so i hope it doesnt hurt too much and he doesnt get crook afterwards. Fingers Crossed.
