Bree, after his last feed I ended up expressing to make sure I was totally drained - got another 70ml! Maybe I will see if he will take it off DH tonight so I can get some sleep.

    Hi Everyone,

We went to the children's hospital on Monday to check on Tobi's stridor and they said that we wouldn't need to go back he looks fine, just keep seeing our local paed. Reflux is still a big issue though; they did say that his stridor makes it worse. Other than that he is very smiley and an absolute joy. BTW I am feeling better emotionally too, however I keep getting headaches, I think they are stress/neck related. I saw a doc who said take Panadol! I said that they are so bad I need Panadine and she said nothing. As my DH put it, "it says on the pack if pain persists see a doctor". Well I did that and she was useless. I balled my eyes out after that and was ready to make a complaint, what if it is something serious causing the headaches? They have gotten better over the last week so I haven't done anything further about it. It just upset me that I had been putting off making an appointment because it is so hard for me to get out of the house now and when I finally go and I got no help. Well that's my little rant.

Bree - Things I use for Soph and that my DS loved - well - Soph is a jolly jumper lover!! I put her in for about 20-30mins a day and she has the best time...I often use it before a sleep to wear her out. The other thing both of them love are walkers with the tray and toys. My son zoomed around the house in it....I had to limit his time in it he loved it so much and Soph is so happy in it. She wheels herself around (backward, albeit) and has fun dropping toys off along the way. The walker lasted 6 months (but we got it second hand) - so that would be my best suggestion. My friend has a seat that spun around a table of toys by fisher price for her DDs - my DS had a go and couldn't understand why he couldn't move where he wanted - but her girls loved it.

Cass - I just got my AF (first time - argh!!) and it explained why Soph was fussing the day before - not feeding. My DS always did that (well until he was around 12mths I really noticed it - so I knew that the next day my AF would come. It must change the flavour of the milk. Then they feed ravenously the next day. It was often a time I would get bitten too. Ouch!!

QB - Have you been to physio??? With DS I had terrible back ache and headaches and ended up going to a physio and after two sessions it was like a miracle. The birth has put my hips out of alignment and I had ripped cartilidge of my ribs. Made a massive difference to me. Just a suggestion. I am getting a lot of headaches at the moment too and am considering another trip to physio. I rang around last time and found someone that specialised in post birth physio and she was brill!

Soph had a little it of pear yesterday - some went in and some spat out but she actually swallowed without vomitting it back later! And she slept well last night - Feed at 8pm, wake and feed at 1am (big feed on both sides so up for 1hr) but for the first time ever I woke to her talking happily in her own bed at 6.30am!!! It's a miracle.

However, her day sleeps have gone absolutely haywire. I think she is moving to two sleeps per day - anyone else transitioning. She was like clockwork - up for 2.5hrs and asleep in 5mins. Admittedly she only slept for 30-50min but she was v happy with that. So she was sleeping around 9.30-10ish, then 1 and then at 3.30 in the arvie - and off to bed at 6.30ishpm.

I think she wants to be awake more like 3-3.5hrs now - anyone else had a change suddenly?? Was going to try two sleeps today at 10.30ish and 2.30ish (4hrs between - I think DS spaced something like that when he moved to two sleeps) - obviously following her tired signs - but she woke at 6.30am this morning instead of 7.30am - so she may need three sleeps?

What do your routines look like at the moment?

I have found this a particularly difficult week - the smallest things really get to me. Perhaps it was the onset of AF for first time! Hope so. DH came home on Wed arvie and I went out and had coffee and read paper all on my own in peace for 1hr at a cafe at the beach. Was beautiful!!! First time I had left Soph and she played fine! But she cuddled me so hard when I got home...

You have described me so accurately! I hope that AF arrives in the next couple of days so at least that will explain why I've been feeling like I have.

LJ- I am seeing an osteo, but they are down one person so it is really hard to get an appointment and I am probably leaving it too late.

Shell- I am paranoid atm about people touching because it is cough and cold season. Can be hard at school when the little prepies want to play with the baby. i am a bit of a germaphob. Yes it is probably stress and lack of sleep and I get them with AF which seems to be hanging around for 2 weeks at a time! At least it is not as heavy after starting the pill.

Shell - Yes I have an ergo- my Bjorn got to small for Ciaran so i got one off ebay brand new and LOVE IT! Highly recommended..

QB - def go see an Osteo or someone - you need to look after yourself so you can look after Tobi...

LJ - thanks for the suggestions. I like the idea of the walking thing
Re Sleeping - Ciaran seems to be needing MORE sleeps of late during the day (wierd eh) and sometimes doesnt even get his usual 2+ hrs of awake time. I though it was a growth spurt but has been happening for more than a week now so who knows... Night sleeps are still long (11-12 hr stretches with sleepy feeds in between) but I think we are still a long way off sleeping all night without a feed.. most nights now he grazes alot mid morning (although i wonder if its chewing so maybe the Amber necklace Ive just ordered will help??).

    Cheers, Bree

just a question about sleepin through the night

My son is now 5 months old and i wondering how i go about getting him to sleep past 5am. He goes to bed at 6 pm everynight and sleeps through to 5am, than wakes for a bottle and goes back to sleep untill 730am. If i feed him when i go to bed around 11pm he still wakes at 5am for a bottle, if i feed him at 2am he still wakes at 5am for a bottle, so no matter what time i feed him he always wakes at 5am for a bottle. I dont usually feed him after he goes to bed at 6pm, but i tried feeding him late in the night to see if he would just sleep through to 730am but he always wakes. Ive tried to settle him when he wakes at 5am with no feed but nothing seems to be working, any ideas would be great...thanks.

Hi ladies. I was just thinking how quiet everyone's been then realised I wasn't getting emails .

We're doing pretty well here. Feeling a little tired but I guess that's to be expected for a few months yet. Toby's sleeping is pretty much the same - he did do 12am - 5am one night last week, which was great. Unfortunately that seems to have been a one off. He was in his own bed that night so I'm wondering if sleeping with me is actually disturbing him. He usually goes down in his bed for the evening and then comes in with us when he wakes for a feed around midnight but I might keep trying to put him back in his bed and see if he'll settle. I have mixed feelings about giving up co-sleeping but it's not about me and if the little guy is happier in his own bed then that's where he can be

Daytime sleeps seems to vary a lot. He will usually have a 1.5 -2 hr sleep in the morning if we're home and he gets the opportunity. Poor wee thing gets dragged around a lot with kindy drop off/pick ups and play-dates for his big sister. I've figured he's happy to sleep in his pram now though so that works ok if we're out.

Breesa - We bought an exersaucer and Toby loves it. I'm always scared about walkers getting caught on things and tipping over so I went for the stationary option I only put him in it for about 10 mins at a time now but will increase as he gets older and bigger. He still likes to sit in his swing, especially if he's tired and just needs to chill out. I face it towards the kitchen and he's happy watching me while I clean up. We have lots of great chats while I do the dishes. He's almost sitting up on his own now so I think the swing will become unnecessary soon.

As for headaches - I had a nasty migraine last week. It had been brewing for a while I think. I'm sure it's about now that the hormone 'relaxin' that keeps everything nice and flexi during pregnancy, has completely left our bodies. That combined with bad posture while feeding has made my neck, shoulders and back pretty tense and sore. Oh how I wish I had unlimited funds to put towards being massaged a couple of times a week!

Cass - You must be so pleased to be moving back to Canberra! Are you getting ready for all the packing yet?

LJ - How's it going with the solids. Glad to hear you got an hour to yourself. It's so nice to be alone sometimes!

I've had about 3 visits from AF now and I have definitely noticed some crazy moods around that time. I didn't notice any difference with feeding but wasn't really even thinking that AF would effect that. Will take note next time.

I've ordered a few MCNs now and have tried out 2 different brands - a WiddleWuns and a Bum Cheeks. LOVE them. I'm definitely a convert . It's a serious addiction though - I just want more and more! Toby looks so cute in them and in sunny Qld it's no problem to wash and dry them (unlike when I tried them with DD - Sth Island of NZ during the winter).

Brodie10 - Wow, you've got a great sleeper there! I wouldn't be too worried about a baby that's sleeping for 11 hours over night at 5 mths old. I think you'll find that as he gets older he may start sleeping a bit later without needing a bottle but for now I would just go with it. I don't know of many babies that age that sleep anywhere near that long over night. When I'm up during the night or early in the morning I just remind myself that it won't be forever and that I should make the most of all the extra snuggles I'm getting .

Need to get off to bed now - I'm feeling a little sore (read aching all over). Stacey and I began our path to being hot sexy mummas today . I am very proud of both of us as we have started the Couch 2 5K program after weeks of talking about it. Yes, it almost killed us but we hung on to the end and will be ready to go again on Wednesday (if we're not ready we will do it anyway!).

Sorry if I've missed anyone. Will attempt to get back soon. Have a good week!

Shell - Soph is still sleeping in basinet in our room..I have started her day sleeps in her cot in her own bedroom with the aim of moving to nights by 6mths. We well see how we go - the original plan was to move her when she was sleeping through or big slots of time as she wakes toddler when she cries but that never really happened...although we have had a couple of good nights lately goes down by 7pm and then she has a late evening feed - 10.30pm - and then 4am and sleeps till 7 or 8am.

Bree - It seems we are a long way of the all night sleep too

Jandals - Soph has finally taken to solids this week - corresponding with the better sleeps this week I think....She has had pears, apples and pumpkin and corn. We have started on her second meal of the day yesterday - just been building up an extra teaspoon each day.

Cass - Forgot to say so glad to hear you are going back to Canberra!!!

Soph has just begun to let us know when she doesn't want to do something. In the past, you could just put her in her rocker, for eg, and she would sit happily - now she let's you know if that doesn't suit her!!!

She is nearly sitting!!! Can hold it for about 10-20 secs without a wobble so very soon!!

I have had a funny time with breastfeeding - particularly on the right. She has been fussing and biting and crying and sometimes refusing the right. I thought it was just AF but that has just finished and she is still fussing today. Give it a day or two and see what happens..v frustrating. I think she is frustrated too about a slow let down at the moment - don't know why - having to use calming strategies to help.

Better go - toddler pulling out of of DH's work papers!!!

    Hi All

Just a quick msg to say on the topic of solids, Im planning on doing this baby guided approach as per the link below (really giving solids instead of baby mush)... thought it may be of interest to others. It stipulates waiting till 6months though and as Ciaran has shown no real interest and Im keen to wait its all good.
    Baby Led Weaning - Home

Ordered our amber necklaces this week, should get it tomorrow (Public Holiday today). Im hoping it will help him sleep better/longer or just be more settled at night as he is occasionally restless for a few nights in a row (wonder if its teething stuff as he is chewing on everything and anything during the day!)

Also my website is live now so im onto the task of business cards so i can get some local self promotion going. Very Exciting!

    Cheers, Bree
