Babies Born ~ March 2012 #1

Hi everyone. I'm on my phone again. I've been reading but haven't had much of a chance to post.

Sounds like there have been a fair few rough nights. Same here. Boy it's hard to face the day with only a couple of hours. I don't know how you mummies with other children do it... I take my hat off to you. Do you find it easier to cope with 2nd, 3rd children after your first as you know it passes? I often think to myself I'm not sure I'm cut out to do this again & have another child to look after.

We had an AWESOME sleep last night bed 9.30pm woke 2am, 5am, 7am for feeds & snuggles for about half hour each time & didn't wake for the day until 9am!!!!! I got to eat breakfast, shower, dress, put moisturizer on (OMG!) and tidy the house up ~ I felt like a different person. DH has his day off tomorrow so hopefully we get a repeat and can have family sleep ins.

my subsequent babies have been much easier to deal with, im more relaxed which i think helps and i know the phases dont last forever.
although i definetly recommend having your last baby before your first bub starts primary school, what id give to not get up at 7am when my alarm goes off!

Rosey - miss k is only my 2nd but im far more relaxed this time. I think alot of it is knowing that things pass. My ds was a frequent night waker until around 2. There were many times when i thought i couldnt make it through another night. I think the hardest thing was not knowing when, if ever, it would end. But now i know things will pass. Although i dont know how ppl with 3+ children cope :lol:

I knew I shouldn't have come in here saying how well C had slept...

Down at 8.30pm and them up twice before 1.30am because he was crying in his sleep... Has anyone else experienced that? Not just the cute little whimper he usually does, I'm talking full on, distressed crying that resulted in me going from lying down in bed to standing over his bassinet so quickly I'm sure I've damaged my scar... Only to find he is sound asleep! It's freaking me out... I've barely slept because I'm just waiting for him to do it again :(

I'm with Rosey... I don't know how you ladies do it. I feel physically and mentally ruined with one!

I'm with you too Elocin. As for the sleep crying we haven't experienced it like that yet. Had little short bursts & grizzles. That would have had me up quick smart also. Nasty dream? How's your scar feeling?

DD slept for 7hours straight last night. WOW. However she has been up with a grumbly tummy since.
DD sleeps in a bassinet in our room. Almost every night lately I keep waking half asleep freaking out and searching frantically in our bed for her as I think I've fallen asleep with her in my arms and dropped her into the bed - she is ofcourse in her bassinet. I do this at least twice a night. It's a horrible feeling.

Nic- I havent had Ryker cry like that in his sleep yet, ds1 used to do it but his cry would then wake him and i think it was from his reflux
Rosey- i think once had my second i thought one was easy lol! but never thought one was easy when i had just one

auto pilot is a good description lol skye! But i have to say i am liking the bit of a bigger gap between kids this time. Yep the morning part sucks getting everyone out of the house but then i love the fact i can spend some more one on one time with ds3 when Nix is at school and the days Ty is at preschool.
Ty never got much one on one time as a bub as Nixon was only 18months old himself and still a baby too. The boys now even though still demanding can occupy themselves, play with each other (but fight too!) if i am trying to settle Ryker, they can understand they need to wait, can dress themselves, feed themselves etc
i can now see the pros and cons for smaller and larger age gaps between kids as i have both.

peanutter - OMG what a huge sleep!! you must feel so good after that. Ryker fed at 745pm, asleep by 9pm then lasted till 145am which i was pretty stoked about 6 hours between feeds. its like he stocks himself up for the night lol, he will only go 2hrs between feeds in the arvo, but if it means a bigger stint at night Im not complaining

Hi all :hello: Hope everyone is having a nice and relaxing weekend.

So, we took Cooper to see the Osteopath on Friday and even though it is very early days I think we're already seeing results. He was more settled yesterday than he's been in a couple of weeks and had much better day sleeps, and we didn't even have to give him the dummy once! He also seemed to fart a bit less than he has been. And then last night we saw the biggest improvement yet - he slept from 8pm until 3am! Now that could just be a coincidence, but usually when he wakes for a feed at night he needs to spend a few minutes farting before he can get started. I'm now wondering if some of his waking may be because of the wind rather than hunger... Either way, I feel like a new woman today!

At first I wasn't sure about the Osteo. She seemed to get quite fixated on what a quick feeder Cooper is. Not from the perspective that he might be taking in extra air cos he gulps, but because she didn't think he could be getting the hind milk when he was only spending 10 or so minutes on one breast per feed. She kept telling me to check with the MCHN that he was draining the breast. To me it just seemed silly, after BF'ing DS for 2 years I'm pretty confident I can tell when my breast is drained, his weight gains have literally been massive, the MCHN wasn't at all concerned when I told her about his feeding habits, and even if it was the problem there is no way that I can make him feed for longer or take the second breast. But after checking him out she said that his hips and pelvis were very tight which could be contributing to his difficulty passing wind, but also could cause him problems down the track.

She spent about 20 minutes treating him, part of which while I was feeding him. It was very gentle, you really couldn't tell that she was manipulating him at all, well except from the occassional fart that he let out while she was doing it ;) And then we were done. She has said that she would like to see him a couple more times so we go back in just over a week.

At this stage it seems to be doing the trick... But I guess the next few days will tell won't they. Here's hoping it continues the way it did yesterday.

Sorry for the lack of personals, hope everyone is well and bubba's are continuing to give their mumma's a couple of extra hours sleep.

autopilot is just it. and there are times when you don't even remember getting up to do things!!

crying in sleep: DS2 does this sometimes. apparently it's very common at the juncture between one sleep cycle and the next.

thinking bub is in bed: I did this so many times with DS1 - freaks you out completely!

Except Elocin :( gah, your little monkey likes to keep you guessing. Everything crossed for a nanna nap today. Re: sleep cries/screams, yes! It freaks us out. Much prefer the chuckles

Rosey, I'm with you, in awe of 2nd and 3rd time mamas. Great that you're getting some rest hon. I love shower and makeup days!

Miss E, fantastic that the Osteo is making a difference. Am sure you know best re: feed times, I've got a quick feeder too - usually 10-15 minutes max, sometimes longer in the arvo.

W had her big sleep from 5:00-9:00pm (d'oh!!) but back down 10:00-1:30 and DH did the first feed so I got a nice 5-hour block until she woke at 3:00ish. Up again grunting with a tummy ache at 4:30, 5:15 and 7:30. I've actually enjoyed the last few night feeds as it's the only time she's relaxed, drinks without faffing on and off the bb and has dreamy cuddles after. Too much to see during the day now.

autopilot is the only way on the days you are sleep deprived. Knowing they are so little for so short a period of time makes it easier to enjoy and not get so overwhelmed

Helena had a much better night last night, back to feeds at 10.30, 2.30 and 5.30 and settled well after the first two and not too bad after the 5.30 feed. DH slept in my bed last night which was nice for a change as he has been sleeping in the spare room most of the time so he can have enough sleep to get to work in one piece in the morning and help deal withthe big girls on the weekend so I can sleep in.

Family outing to bunnings yesterday and the older girls had a ball, got their faces painted and played on the playground. Have booked them in next weekend for a free kids DIY sesion where they do painting or build something, hopefully they enjoy it and its one less messy activity at home lol

Re thinking you've lost you're bub in bed, ive done that a fewe times. Mostly ecause i know she is in our bed, but she's always safe in my arms, she loves to snuggle!

The health nurse asked how long she feeds for/ how often ect, i sheepishly said i never time her feeds or look how long its been between them, whenever she grizzles i just pick her up and put her on the boob, sometimes she has a long feed and other times its just a quick snack. i just dont have the brain capacity to keep up atm

I do this quite regularly.. but last night DH was settling Sam and I fell back into a sleep, I woke to him getting back into bed. I looked at the cradle no bubs, looked at him, nope no bubs in his arms, looked at the cradle again def no bubs there... DH just laughed at my panicked face, and said she's in the pram bassinet (which I couldn't see as it was behind the cradle in our room)
