Babies Born ~ March 2012 #1

Hi girls, sorry for the lack of posts, Addison hasnt been giving me much hands free time lately but i have been reading.

Buffy, hope you had a better night last night hun. dont really have much advice, but just know you are doing a fantastic job with your little lady.

Sounds like everyone had a great easter, and welcome to the new mummas!

AFM, well miss A must be going through a growth spurt, she's been feeding nearly every hour round the clock the last few days, thankfully i remember DD2 doing the same thing and this time im more relaxed about it and am just going with the flow, hopefully she always cluster feeds on weekends when DF is home, makes life much esier!!
When DD2 went through this i thought it was because my supply was shagged and made a very tired and teary trip to the shops at midnight one night to buy formula, thankfully the next day i spoke to a few friends who assured me it was normal and that she was getting enough so i she only had one bottle and then continued to BF for another 6 months.

otherthan that we're ok, she was pretty cranky yesterday bnut i think the chocoloate id been eating wasnt agreeing with her.

and she's up again, catch up with you all soon xxx

Well Addison Ava was born on Friday the 30th of march at 10.05 pm.
Sorry it has taken me so long to move over to this thread. About 4 hrs after bubs was born she was taken to the special care nursery with a fast respiratory rate and unfortunately I couldn't take her home the next day like I'd planned she was only allowed to come home last Thursday. A little sad and now feel as though I am hogging her a little bit from the rest of the family.

I hope everything is going well for everyone else and all your bubba's are making a smooth transition.

We had another bad night last night with wind, 3 hours of being unsettled and crying in the end after 20 minutes of tummy massage and toes to nose she did a big fart and settled at about 5.30. She has since done two massive number twos that required an outfit change on both occasions. Luckily my two big girls were angels and played in their rooms until I got up at 8.30 to check on how they were going :). They had been waking DH around 6.30 most mornings since he had been home. He was not impressed when I told him that on his first day back at work they didnt wake me up super early!

Keeley was born on 31 march after a bout of gastro seemed to bring on labour! I was due to be induced on 3 april so i was quite glad to beat that after i was induced with my ds.

Ive been reading this thread but wont attempt personals to next time!

SaraRose, I've found that a warm bath helps with Connors wind - well, it did at 2am this morning anyway. Could it be something in your diet that's causing her wind? I had tomatoes last night without even thinking and we had a shocker.

A big :hello: to everyone else! Sorry for the lack of persies... Typing one handed on my phone :)

We are doing ok here... I'm dealing some of the stuff that the fabulous Buffy is going through. Lots of self-doubt and lacking confidence, questioning everything I do and dealing with the overwhelming feelings. Gah. It sucks balls.

I got my clearance to drive today which is like a little light of freedom for me. We live in a really hilly suburb and we are smack, bang on top of the hill so getting out with the pram / Ergo during the day has been too hard to attempt on my own.

As I said above, we had a ****ty night last night. He slept from 7.30-10.30 and then had terrible wind until we put him in the bath... Worked like I charm thank goodness! My eyes are hanging out of my head tonight.

sararose, sorry to hear Helena's tummy is still causing issues - poor little mite, and you must be exhausted too. Did you get any rest today or has it been manic? Do you find the warm bath helps? I'll have to give that a go, we've been doing the 'bicycle legs' trick but Willow is really starting to love the bath.

me-lisa, thank you so much for your offer of a cuppa. I'd really love to meet you! I might take you up on it in a couple of weeks when things are a bit more settled here. Glad that Ali is doing well, despite being a little toad in hospital :)

nickers, yep, we have drop-in centre options and I'll be going along next week plus to an information session and looking into joining a new mums group. Just left it too long I reckon, gotta get my head sorted out. Great news on the successful feed and that expressing is going well too. Am sure Ryker is thriving.

Skye, how's the cluster feeding going? I didn't realise chocolate could have an effect on breastmilk, though I'm pretty sure Willow gets cranky after I've had too much dairy. Love the Easter pics of your bigger girls, by the way.

Elocin, congrats on regaining your wheels! Must be a relief to know you can hop in the car even just for a quick spin around the block. AFM: you're all legends, thanks again for the great advice. Finally saw a MCHN today, Willow is doing beautifully - has put on almost 600 grams in 10 days, I thought she felt heavier! Minor things 'outside their guidelines' eg front thigh creases, didn't do the stepping reflex (yelling too much, I reckon) - but nothing major. Nurse was less helpful with my anxiety, other than that it's all completely normal; a period of adjustment; still getting to know Willow's needs; newborns are noisy etc etc. We did find all the baby behaviour stuff reassuring though. Heading to see my awesome GP on Thursday morning to see what she suggests for my issues and will also go to new parents group next week. Willow peed all over DH during the MCHN visit, he has now officially been christened Dad. Had a reasonable night last night thanks to a few hours of co-sleeping and a bit of time on the couch. Fingers crossed for tonight.

Even thigh creases?? I didn't know they had to be even... What does it mean if they're not?

I'm off tomato, broccoli, capsicum, chilli, garlic and chocolate... It's freaking killing me. But it means bub is more settled, do that's what has to happen for the time being.

Shayla has uneven creases on the back of her legs. She's had the all-clear as well. Sounds like these MCHN's like to give us a little scare from time to time, lol. Although two of Kyson's "baby buddies" from BB had hip issues that required them to wear that big brace, so when I heard that the uneven creases could be a sign of hip problems I had Shayla checked by a doctor pretty quickly just in case. Sounds like the creases are fairly common though and generally not a sign of anything :) I once had a doctor tell me I was "weird" because when I bend my arms so that you can see the creases on the inside of my elbows, one side has two creases and the other side only has one. Apparently you usually have the same number on both sides, so either two crease on each arm, or just one crease on each arm. Who studies that sort of thing? Lol.

You never have to see them if you don't want to. I'll admit that the reason I keep going is to get the "official weigh in" lol. They have certain information that they give you at each visit though that is meant to help you at that particular stage of development. Oh, and you get a free kids book at one of the visits, hehe. Has the midwife been helping you with information as well? Things like breastfeeding, sleeping arrangements, settling, making sure you are ok? Etc... If so, then they are probably doing everything the MCHN would be doing anyway. As for the information that they give, well I always take it with a grain of salt and still go with my gut. I'm sure they probably wouldn't recommend some of the things I do (like co-sleeping, triandem feeding, not setting a routine etc...), but I'm lucky that my MCHN is lovely and supportive of my choices. I've seen a couple that were NOT supportive in the past, so I was really thankful to find my current one :)

Hmmm, that's probably something that you should all know if you don't already... If you see a MHCN that you either don't like, or just didn't feel comfortable with, you can always ask to see someone different the next time. Most areas have a number of MCHN's you could choose from (unless you live in a really small town or something).

Yes, the m/w has been a massive help with helping me establish feeding, answering all sorts of crazy questions etc.

I saw at the local baby shop up the road there is a MCHN available every Wed morning to do weigh ins etc, so I might just head down there next week to get him weighed.

Nic good to hear the bleeding has all but ceased. I bled for 6wks with ds1 and about 4wks with ds2 so im hoping only another week or so and i might be done too!

Buffy- wow willow is doing great with her weight gains well done! its amazing how all of a sudden they look or feel heavier. i put a 0000 suit on Ryker yesterday which a few days before fit and yesterday looked a bit short in the arms and length wise was a bit of a stretch!
a mothers group may be just what you need also, worth going and checking out anyway, i found with ds1 everyone may not have had the same issues but everyone was finding something challenging. something you may have been good with someone else was at their wits end with, and i was lucky we all got along really well.
Unfortunatley we lived in melb and then moved away and i know most of them are still friends and the kids are good friends.
when i went to the clinic last week the mchn put my name down for a mothers group. something i never asked about or thought i could do cause its not my first bub. but they are run on a thursday at 10am and it would work out well because its right across the road from ds2 preschool so i could do the school then preschool drop off then mothers group. it starts thurs week so if dh is home i can go to the first one (cause still school holidays) but if not i will try the following week. if i dont feel like i fit in i wont continue but never know who you might meet and click with
ive been eating way to much chocolate,this is why i dont buy the stuff cause i just cant help myself!! i dont wanna put on any weight i was pretty stoked to find out i am already 2kg under what i started when i was pregnant! (but that wont last if i keep eating easter eggs) i havent noticed it causing Ryker any unsettleness its just the time of day each day he seems to have.

last night dh had to go into work to get a few things sorted (even though he is on holidays) so left me at 630pm! ryker wouldnt settle after his feed at 730pm, i end up cuddeling him and i woke at 12.15am when dh got home. amazing that when he is getting cuddles he keeps sleeping through a feed but in his cot he would have already have woken

Buff, 600gms in 10 days is fantastic! you must be making super milk!!!
different thing affect breast milk, have to limit my coffee intake, cabt do onion or garlic at all!

Elocin, i purely go to the mchn for the weigh ins and usually stop about 12 months. the one i had for DD2 was an absolute mole, but this one is really really nice, so hopefully it stays that way!

Hi all

Better night last night, I can't work out if it's something I'm eating as I've stopped all the usual culprits like onion, garlic, chocolate days ago the only thing I havent cut out is dairy, I had dairy yet day and she had a good night :shrug:

The lovely lady who does family day care came and picked the big girls up today so I didn't have to race around and take Helena out too early. I do need to get some groceries but will do that in a bit. Cheeky monkey had her last feed four hours ago and doesn't look like waking up anytime soon. I'm lying in bed with her and playing around on the iPad. I've stopped bleeding for about 5 days now fx it doesn't start again as with my other girls I thought it was over with then had it start up again for another week.

Nickers sounds like Ryker is growing well, all my 0000's are packed away now :( Miss H is almost too big for some of the 000 onesies as she has such a long body they get tight at the crotch. I hope the mothers group goes well, I never went to one with dd1 and they don't seem to offer it unless its your first here.

Buffy glad you have an appointment with your GP. Sounds like you must be doing things right 600g in 10 days is a fantastic effort!

Elocin I only ever used the drop in service with the girls and it was only really to weigh the girls. They also had a set of scales in the waiting room so sometimes I would weigh them myself and not worry about seeing the nurse. Must admit by about 6 months I didn't weight dd2 regularly as I could tell she was growing and she was meeting all her milestones. Helena seems to dislike the bath still although you're right it does help with the wind, unfortunately if I give her a bath overnight I would wake my other dd's up then I'd have three kids to settle back to bed!

Skye enjoy having your df home, it's nice to have company and to have someone help entertain the bigger girls :)

Sararose: it's a shame helena dislikes the bath, Samantha loves hers, instant asleep with her toes pointing up and floating in the water.. we love it as we are water people too, so see this having a great potential for swimming in pools etc.

Sam slept through most of the night last night, so that is improving, and she is more awake during the day.

I have the 2 week mchn visit tomorrow, other than taking her home from hospital I haven't taken Sam out in the car yet, so it should be an adventure.

Its good to hear that the rest of you are starting to slow / stop in the post partnum bleeding, mines slowing down a lot, and I will be happy to get rid of the pads :-)

Sara- i wonder if Helena might like a shower? I got dh to bring in Ryker with me the other day and he loved the shower, just layed so content in my arms.
zilly- thats great u got a good block of sam sleeping last night.
i didnt keep up the mchn weigh ins with ds2 cause clearly he was stacking on weight and i didnt have any concerns. ds1 being premmie etc i was always hanging out for the next one to check things.
tomorrow im getting the hand impressions done with the 3 boys then after that the big boys are having a sleep over at nanny and poppys. i said to dh we might go out with Mr R for dinner and enjoy the fact we can lol going out with a newborn is a lot easier than toddlers!!

I agree that a mothers group can be great. You tend to get differing stories about mothers groups from people (some love them, some hate them), but it all depends on the particular mums you get in the group. I'm lucky that the mums in my group (from when my son was born) are all great and we all get along really well. It's nearly been three years now and we still meet up once a week at alternating houses to let the kids have a play and for all us mums to have a bit of a chat. The biggest gripe I've heard about mothers groups is that some mums can be quite competitive, but thankfully we haven't really experienced that in our group.

I'm rather jealous of the ladies in here that have stopped their pp bleeding. I'm soooooo over it, lol. I've actually become really self conscious about it because I feel that it smells and I feel "dirty" all the time. Hopefully it's getting close to finishing because it's no longer red, just that watery yellow brown discharge. I was almost going to ring my obstetrician about it because I didn't remember it smelling like it does with my other two kids and was worried about infection, but there is no abdominal tenderness or fever, so it must be fine. I think it's a bit of a mental thing for me, and that it doesn't actually smell bad. I even got some aloe vera maternity pads thinking it would mask the smell a little, but now whenever I smell the aloe vera I associate it with the discharge and think that smells too! *sigh* Fingers crossed it's all done soon haha.

Looks like I don't get to do persies at the moment because DH has left Shayla in the swing and come in to tell me we're doing "swapsies" with who is pushing the swing, lol!
