Babies Born ~ May 16th-31st 2009 #8

Nay - We do Sunday morning swimming lessons too. For some reason I find that Kyson enjoys them more if I hold off on his nap rather than get him to have one before we go. He crashes as soon as I get him in the car afterwards though, lol!
It was hard keeping the "pink" secret, but in all honesty, right from the start I kept saying to people that I had a "feeling" that it was a girl so that it wouldn't be strange when I kept accidentally calling the baby a she, lol. The part I don't like though is having to tell little lies about how we know it's a girl. Good thing that I've read a few stories on this forum about people getting told at 12 week scans what sex the baby is so at least I can say that 'sometimes' the sonographer will hazard a guess if they are pretty sure. I don't even think our sonographer actually even looked between her legs! I'm sure one day it will all come out because we don't intend on it being a secret from the baby when she is old enough to understand, we just don't want to tell people right now because unfortunately I think there are quite a few that would be rather judgemental about it. In 10 years time I'm sure it won't be such a big deal ;)
Oh, and we've decided on a first name, but not the middle yet, so you're still in with a chance!
I'm super excited about you guys starting to TTC around Christmas for baby 2! I'll keep my fingers crossed that you have one of those wonderful stories of a miracle IVF baby and then a miracle natural baby. But even if you have to go down the IVF track again, then we'll all be here for you. At the end of the day it doesn't matter how your little one comes to you, it just matters that you want and love them :hug:

Bella - I was thinking the same as Nay, that your Mum should do some travelling classes just for us! Lol. Although, perhaps once the ms goes away... I must admit that I'm not the best of cooks, and don't tend to find it enjoyable. DH laughs at me when I cook because he says I pull faces! How rude! LOL.
I remember having that convo at Seaworld, and you'd be amazed how good it felt to get it all out and have someone be supportive! Gosh, I can't believe that it wasn't that long ago that it was all just a dream, and now it's well and truly a reality! Oh, and DH might be going to a conference up your way again (same place as last time), so I might see if Kyson and I can come up again :D

Cathy - How cute was the tutu that was made from your idea?! I loved it that the colors went in the other direction to what I thought they were going to. I liked it even more that way. Have you received it yet?

Jacinta - Kyson doesn't seem to talk as much as some other babies his age. One of the mum's at mother's group claims her little girl says a million things, she just never seems to say any of them when any of us are around, hehe. There's a few things Kyson likes to say now, "Dada", "MumMum", "Shower", "Banana" (which often is either just "nana" or turns into "nananana"), "Nana" (DH thinks he's saying Nana about his Mum, but I tend to think it's banana again, lol). Those are his favorites, but I'm trying to get him to put his hands in the air and say "Tada!", LOL!

Amy - We've had a couple of nasty nights lately too. Last night Kyson was unsettled in the evening and we had to resettle him a few times. He ended up having his 11pm feed just after 10pm because he was so upset, and then he woke at 2am so I brought him to our room and he just kept rolling from his cot to my bed, to on me, and back to his bed. He just wouldn't fall asleep! This went on for an hour and a half and I started getting cranky at him. I thought maybe it was a teething thing, so I gave him a little panadol and he guzzled it, and then I felt really bad because I wondered if he had just been really thirsty?! So I gave him some more milk and he went back to sleep after that. I felt really guilty, but it probably wasn't just thirst because he was unsettled all evening even after his other feeds. He also did the same thing a few nights beforehand when he was awake from 3-5am. Fun times, lol!

Bridg - Has things improved with Logan drinking milk? I've totally given up on trying to get Kyson on cow's milk at the moment. We finally managed to teach him how to suck from a straw sippy cup. It's so cute because rather than purse his lips like an adult would, he wraps his little tongue around the straw and sucks like when he is breastfeeding, hehe.

Nicky - Have you still been having problems with Allira's hands? That is such a wierd thing, and so odd that the medical people have no explanation for it. Anyway, how's your two little rugrats going? Causing the cutest type of choas I'm sure ;)

Vic - I had lots of problems with my ears when I was little, so I was always worried that Kyson would have problems. So far we've been lucky and he hasn't had any problems at all. I was born with adenoids that were the size of a teenagers (I grew into them, lol) and it made it so that I wasn't able to breath through my nose. That meant that drinking milk was rather difficult and I used so suck and suck, then gulp in air which would give me really bad wind and tummy aches. Thankfully Kyson doesn't have that problem! I also had a couple of sets of tubes as a kid too. I'm pretty sure I was rather miserable during the painful times, so it's great that CJ seems to be coping so well, except for how hard that makes it to know when something is wrong. I hope she's getting much better!

BG - Gosh, it must be a bit of an emotional rollercoaster with the house business. I can imagine that there is a bit of relief and excitement there, but I know that selling and moving is rather stressful, plus you have the family stuff to deal with! I totally know what you mean about "boy cleaning" haha! Our female eyes must be better at spotting mess and dirtiness that male eyes seem to totally miss.

Arghhh now I am sick yesterday was dh first day at home so he was meant to be shadowing me to learn all the tricks with CJ but I woke up to the sound of him throwing up! Last night I was all shivery and this morning feel very delicate and stinking headache. Dh did not feel up to work but has taken Cj to daycare to be away from our germs. So I am in bed writing from IPhone, is ok but can't type so fast. CJ now has three molars and yesterday crawled properly about two metres at mothers group but has not done it since.

Anyway just wanted to say hi to everyone when I am well enough will be setting up new pc which should be super speedy.

Vic - Sorry to hear your household has been struck down with illness, hope you are feeling a little better. Yay for the new speedy PC, You won’t know yourself!

Krystie - I agree with Nic, your new Avi is scrumptious - Yummy Mummy :) I can't wait to find out Apple Blossoms name - hopefully Naomi goes well with the first name ;) LOL I still have my original girls name 'on hold' in case baby #2 is pink, if we have a boy though .... who knows!! Best I get pregnant first before worry about that though !! :o I just saw in an Online article that Orgalutran, which is one of the IVF short cycle drugs, has been added to the PBS as of Aug 1. As we would do an antagonist cycle again that’s great news for us, that should significantly bring down the price of an IVF cycle - Yay!

Bella - agreed, it would be simply delightful to be TTC buddies and luck permitting belly buddies again, wouldn't it be hilarious if our kids ended up the same ages? I love reading your posts, you are such an inspiring and dedicated Mummy, proud to call you a friend mate!!

Nic - Yeah re keeping the TTC on the down low, we are only telling Bailey's god parents (our besties) as they've been through IVF too. Definitely not telling the family, esp the IL, they'll broadcast it to all and sundry like they did last time. Also, whenever the MIL hears any news it appears she tells everyone before we get a chance to. But overall, to make it easier on ourselves we'll keep it under wraps, and it would be nice to have some semblance to a 'normal' pregnancy announcement around the 12 week stage, rather than reporting in a few hours after we find out. What a delicious secret to keep for a while :)

BG - Still busy sorting out etc? Any interest on the house? How's it all going? I get you on the 'man' clean thing tehehehehe, bless them they try, these days I'll take a man clean, no time to be fussy anymore!

Child Care is getting easier, although we still have tears at the drop off (and pick up, he gets a bit overwhelmed when he see’s Daddy at the end of the day), he is settling within a few minutes now, so out of sight out of mind thanks Mummy LOL. The carers said they can see what a happy little boy he is now, as he has lost his clinginess to them and will happily play all day, but still crawl over for a hug now and then – yay, a little less Mummy guilt for me :o I love how well they look after the kids, I have poked my head in and they are sooo good and loving to all the babies, it makes me feel at peace and this week I’ve been able to get stuck into work without worrying constantly. I totally picked the right child care centre (pats myself on back LOL)

Oh, and I am LOVING part time work, it totally agrees with me. Only going into the office one day in a row is just awesome. I have our housework, cooking, general life stuff under control, have two extra days with Bailey, and seem to be getting some decent sleep. I have to stay organised though, the key is to lay all the clothes, breakfasts, bags out the night before, and fill up the slow cooker in the morning and set the timer so its cooked when we get home, but its working a treat so far. Two of my co-workers came up and asked me how I scored the work-from-home gig ( I think they are after my job!!), but I know it’s safe and I know my boss only let me do it cos he trusts me. Ten Years of Service is definitely paying off, but if we do have another baby there will be a scrap fight to cover my role I reckon hehehehe, as long as I get it back when I return, I don’t care!!

Anyway, better go get my list, purse and keys and get ready to head off to the shops, I’m gonna regret this tomorrow when I want to sleep and Bailey wants to play – coffee will be my best friend :)

hi girls sorry i have been AWOL, has been a hectic week, have moved back to my mums (yay!), jade has started at a new daycare, ive enrolled at TAFE and start next week, and XP just got a job (ive posted a thread in platinum) which im not too sure about...he wont be having her at all now caus its working up north full time :( so mainly things are going well but a bit sad about that.
Jade is getting into everything and driving me insane, im so glad she was a late crawler, now she is super quick and chucks huge tantrums (we are talking hitting my face, pounding her fists on the floor etc!) but apparently i was just the same. Also she is getting thru teeth, (she has bottom two and top two incisors, now the top middle two are coming thru ) so very little sleep here!!

sorry i dont do many persies but i keep up to date on FB and love all the photos of our little ones growing up... not so little anymore, makes me so sad!!!

Hi girls, I thought I'd come in here for some advice. My 10yo DSS has had a cough for about 2 weeks now. It started getting better, then got quite bad one night and DH took him to a 24hr GP at midnight. He has an upper respiratory infection and is on antibiotics.

This afternoon Kyson has coughed a few times. Nothing scary so far, just a couple of little coughs, but not like his normal little coughs. It sounds slightly chesty. And one time when he was standing next to me he was wheezing a little while he was breathing. Other than that he seems totally fine. I've just put him to bed and he sounded fine and didn't cough at all. I'm only posting about it because I know that these things can get bad overnight sometimes so wanted some advice if that happens. I don't want to give him cough medicine at all because it's not recommended at all for kids under 2 (and it's under debate whether it's even helpful at all...), so if he starts coughing or breathing bad during the night do I just steam up the bathroom and hold him in there? Obviously if he got really bad we'd take him to the hospital or call an ambulance. I'm just not sure if there's anything other than getting steamy that helps.

Also, if he does start coughing, would he HAVE to take antibiotics considering his brother is needing them to get over this infection? Usually I would want to hold off so his own immune system could take care of things, but I guess I'm just worried because his brother wasn't able to kick the infection without abs. Having said that though, my DSS has had two colds recently so his immune system probably isn't in it's best form, whereas Kyson is the healthiest baby I know of.

Oh, and guess what? I think my morning sickness is easing, but I'm coming down with a cold, lol. This is my second cold since falling pregnant. Oh dear. The worst thing at the moment though is that I have had a killer headache for about a week that even panadol doesn't take the edge off. I think I hurt my neck one night and I think that's when the headache started. Unfortunately my friend who is a chiro is overseas at the moment, so I'm going to try to book in for an appointment at my old chiro clinic one evening when they do late appointments. Having a 14 month old makes doing these sorts of appointments during the day impossible. I can't exactly imagine him sitting in his pram contently while Mummy gets some myotherapy and a little crack-crack. Haha!

i'd say just watch it coz it can go bad quick but if i doesnt get better off to the docs is the best thing to do and discuss options he might say we wont give him ab's unless it doesnt clear itself up i know my doc wouldnt give Jamie anything when he got his cold

KL - do you have a vaporiser? When Bailey is a bit 'coughy' or chesty I always put it on preventitively and I swear it works a treat, seems to keep him relatively clear - nice warm moist air, and he has a sounder night sleep too (as do we). Although it might be a bit late now (unless you have a late night chemist) I'd definately recommend getting one (about $50) and ours has paid for itself over and over again babe

Hope he doesn't come down with DSS's bug, but if he does and does need ABs, at least you are helping him get healthy again asap. Last time Bailey had a bit of a Chest infection / bugs it wouldn't clear until the Dr put him on ABs and then he was HEAPS better within 24 hours. Having said that, he hasn't completely shaken his cough yet (nor have I) that he's had for about 3-4 weeks now. He occassionally wheezes too, but its usually once off's

Krystie: I'm another who loves the vaporiser! Don't stress - ABs are not a given, and they usually don't prescribe them unless they can see it's a bacterial infection (e.g. ear or throat infection - Phoebe's tonsils had pus on them both times she's had tonsilitis, so it was obviously bacterial). It's possibly a virus (there are oodles of them going around - we've all had a cough here the last couple of weeks) so ABs wouldn't help anyway. And cough medicine is useless IMO. Personally, I think you just wait it out. I wouldn't be worried about the wheezing. When Phoebe gets a cough/cold she sounds like her breathing is laboured and her chest has a rattle. The Dr explained that babies aren't aware that it's anti-social to breathe/talk with phlegm on your chest! LOL! So they don't know to clear it away with a cough. IMO baby coughs always sound worse than adult coughs (except smokers' cough - that can sound pretty heavy) and I have found that my girls shake it off within a couple of weeks. (But this winter it hasn't taken them long to pick it up again :( ) GL - I hope it's not too bad a night for you.

Nay: Staying up for the sale?!? You ARE mental! LOL! So pleased that PT work is going well. I can't wait til next week when I am back to 3 days again. Had such a crap time last week - work was insane :( Monday I worked 7:30 - 6pm, then Tues 9 - 6. Then 8-4 Wed-Fri. I was ROOTED.

BG: Hope you have made some headway with the house. It must be tough trying to get the place clean with a kid around. My place always looks like a bomb blast after only a couple of hours... I never seem to get on top of anything.

Phoebe is officially walking, albeit not completely in control of where she's going, LOL! She's definitely got a temper. Lately sleeping has been all over the joint - she has slept all the way through the night a handful of times, but some nights (like last night) she wakes multiple times. I never know what I'm in for. But we have been having so much fun lately (even though we've all had colds) and it feels like we are all enjoying each other which (as Bella has reminded me!) is the main thing.
Sorry for the quick post - HELLO! to everyone I've missed. Will be back to normal in a weeks' time. Woohoo! xx

Well, I may have done a mean thing... I've taken the vaporiser out of the bedroom of the child that IS coughing, to put it in the room of the baby that MIGHT cough. The only reason I've done it though is because my DSS is a little sooky and refuses to sleep with the door closed, lol. I'm sure the vaporiser does next to nothing when his door is wiiiiiiide open. We can't even get him to partially close the door even though he has a lamp on in his room that makes it as light as day in there...

Krystie just see how it goes babe... babies often have transmitted sounds trough their airways that sound chesty but are actually more in their upper airways. I agree with the advice to use the vaporiser with Kyson. I have used a decongestant overnight here with J recently because she was too blocked up to nurse but otherwise I leave her. even when she coughs. Trust your instincts but look at your baby. If he is generally happy most often he will be fine. Obviously CJ is an exception to the rule:) J reently had AB's for an ear infection and we could tell she didn't have her normal cough cold because she cried often thru the night piteously:( She also slept till 11am 2 mornings in a row. Not normal. If Kyson seems happy and is relatively content then play it by ear. If he is overly distressed even with panadol go and see the GP. J was getting panadol and neurofeen but was still crying after 3 hrs of the neurofen and nothing would help but to sleep on me or be in my arms. NOT normal for her. So you know what is normal for Kyson and work back from there. Most Doctors and nurses take as great cues how the baby is playing or not and is they seem happy.

KL - Is K ok? LOL @ your DS being a "sook" - I was exactly the same, always needed my door open and night light on.

Nay - It's not a night light, it's the sun! Lol, his lamp is so bright I have no idea how he sleeps with it on. And if we make him turn it off we have to turn the bathroom light on and have both the bathroom and his door wide open, hehe. I'm sure he'll (maybe) grow out of it ;)

Thanks to both you and Bella for your advice. Kyson was find through the night. When he woke around 2.30am-ish he was a little chesty when he was crying, but he wasn't distressed and went back to sleep fine. He's coughing occassionally today and it's still a bit of a yucky sounding cough, but so far nothing to worry about.

Poor DH slept on the couch in the lounge room last night with DSS after he has a particularly nasty coughing fit. DH was in the shower and the older DSS opened the hall door yelling "he's coughing up blood!" all in a panic. His panic was of course making the younger one 10 times worse with his panic. Well, he wasn't coughing up blood at all, he just had a blood nose, but because it started while he was laying down a small amount of blood had come through to his mouth. We got him all cleaned up and calmed down and brought him out to the lounge room so he could sit up more. He had one more small coughing fit and then fell asleep with DH sleeping on the other side of the couch. I woke up this morning and wondered if I had been so tired during the night that I had slept through more coughing, but apparently after that last fit he didn't even stir for the rest of the night and DH got a surprisingly great sleep, lol. He probably slept more than if he had been in our room because he didn't even hear when I resettled/fed Kyson 3 times during the night haha! And DSS is sounding much better today too. He is occassionally having a bit of a coughing fit, but then goes a couple of hours before he coughs again. I think that once he starts to cough it just irritates his throat and chest and makes it hard for him to stop, but once he manages to stop he's ok. Fingers crossed it clears up soon so he can get back to school. He's a good kid and he's well behaved at home, but I do like having my days a bit free-er so I can do more with Kyson too :)

i agree bella but when u go to the doctor and Jamie being jamie is all happy and normal bt as soon as we get home etc thats it he got horrible when he was sick no matter how sick he is he is always perfect for the doc

KL - Glad K is alright and your DSS is doing better. I can just imagine the "coughing up blood" debacle. Glad your DH got a decent sleep.
J - you are the best judge of whether your kid is being himself or not. The Dr should take that into account in their assessment of him. I do know how frustrating it is though when your kid is the devil incarnate at home but a picture of peacefulness at the Drs office. It is gratifying when they thrash about on the floor at the drs - the one time positive feelings abound around a tantrum, LOL.

yep true but he still wouldnt give him anything for his flu it sucked especailly cos it was one of those ones that wouldnt shift and i was sick too so noone was getting better i'll be glad to be out of here when we move oh and the news on that is we have sold the house but are staying here to rent for 6 months so we can get ourselves sorted with this baby etc this way we are looking at a move in Jan which is ok by me lol and DH is looking at starting a business too so it will be very busy around here in the next 6 months lol but it does mean i can stay at the hospital im booked into now which i also fine by me :) things are looking a lot better now

We're really sick and I'm about to go back to bed again. Boo to the flu.
Had a horrible week last week... birthday sucked and am hoping that Lachie is at least 50% on Wednesday for his 3rd Birthday! I'll be so sad for him if he's sick. At least his party isn't for another 2 weeks.

Not much to talk about... Allira's hands are still going up and down on occasion and I've been trying to call my GP but he's been away heaps over the last month. Might try now.

Will pop back at some stage.
