Hi Teirae,
All three of our kids have done something similar. Is she vomity? Or just tummy pain? If you feel her tummy is it really hard when she's upset? Is she doing poos ok? Are they mustardy/pumpkin colour or greeny/brown? If it's the later, it could mean her digestive system isn't happy. If she's vomity it could be reflux (or silent reflux) - does she wake suddenly from sleep and scream? If so, I'd say it sounds like reflux.
Here's a few things that you could try:
* Go off dairy for up to a week and see if this makes a difference. It did with our kids. I'm currently using A2 milk which has a different protein to most milk and is easier for their immature digestive system to absorb. Nuttelex instead of butter, goat's cheese instead of normal cheese. Anything that doesn't have the normal long protein found in most cow's milk. So it's not really 'no dairy' it's just better dairy. Unfortunately, I haven't found an alternative for ice cream. Just beware that most breads, biscuits/everything has milk powder in them too.
* Cut back on the sugar and citrus juice in your diet.
* Go on a probiotic (for yourself, which will pass in the breastmilk to bubs). There is a baby probiotic you can get, but I think it's from 3 months. This is meant to help their digestive system and it helped with DS1 who had quite bad reflux for the first 6 months. I grabbed some of that Inner Health from the chemist yesterday.
* Try a paed chiro who can work wonders. Not sure where you live, but I can recommend some great ones in Melb and further afield. There might be something out of alignment which is making bubs uncomfortable and waking in pain (?)
*Try some infacol - given before each feed. It helps get the wind up better and you can buy it from the chemist or supermarket.
*Lastly, try cuddling/re-settling etc to cut back the number of feeds, as this can make the problem worse, as they get too much of the foremilk and the sugar in the tummy gives them a pain and then they cry and get another feed, which feeds the problem, so they cry some more...
You're right that it's probably not hunger every 2 hours and it must be making you feel absolutely exhausted.
Will your partner help out at night and hold her for awhile to settle her down again so that she can't smell you or your milk? Just to cut the cycle of 2 hr feeds?
Hope that she starts to sleep better for you and that you get some much needed rest! Good luck and let us know how you're going.
