Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Aww bunny you poor thing, same thing happened with me, I just didn't have enough milk for my girl at the start and she just wanted to feed all the time because she was hungry and my nipples were so sore, every time she would latch I was in agony.. I started using the syringe and then when my milk came in I started feeding her again, I am using nipple shields which are absolutely amazing.. (Me and bub both have a few issues regular feeding between us) ..
I would definitely give your nipples a break if you need to.. Either express and give her a bottle (when you milk comes in) or use the syringe and finger feed (the midwives can show you this if they haven't already)
Hope everything gets better for you soon!
Has anyone else's little one got a very red and sore bottom? Milly has.. We have been using sudocream on it at every change.. Hoping it gets better soon.. It looks so sore.. :(
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
BF - for sore boobies I used moo goo's nipple cream. 100% natural and so soothing. When you can, also coat your nipples in breast milk and let them dry.
Em - both L and E got really sore bottoms when I are lots of sugar or acidic foods. I swear by sudocrem but have heard great things about the moo goo nappy rash cream. Giver her nappy free time so her bum has time to dry and breathe is helpful too.
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
BF - I swear by Lansinoh. It's thick and soothing and you don't need to worry about washing it off before a feed. I agree also that applying some breastmilk and letting them air dry. It does get better Hun, I promise xx
We started ear drops last night with Ellie and she seems a little more settled. We got a 4hr and 3hr block of sleep last night and she is settling quite quickly. Still she had quite a lot of white creamy discharge coming out of her ear. I guess I'll find out on Monday what the treatment plan is after we get the culture results back. She also has an infected finger which my dad had a look at today (he just happens to be a hand surgeon!) and he said to continue to use betadine drops and only change the dressing once a day. It looks so painful though.. Really really bad :(
Anywho, we will persist and revisit next week if it's still the same.
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
BF - huge congrats on the arrival of Adam, sorry for the slow response I'm just finally catching up on where everyone is at.
I agree with BR lansinoh is great, I have been using it on my cracked nipples and it works a treat.
'A' has not been attaching well and has done some damage to my nipples to the point one was bleeding yesterday. I have a referral to the lactation nurse for some help but in the meantime I'm using the lansinoh, nipple shield and expressing up to one feed per day to help reduce and heal the damage.
BR - I hope little E's ear and finger improve quickly. I may have missed reading but what happened to her finger for it to get infected?
Ashlee - your pics on FB of E are sooooo gorgeous you must be one super proud mumma. He looks like he's going absolutely great guns with the weight gain, yay.
Emmalee - I've been using sudocrem at almost every change just as a preventative. My SIL swore by it and by using it regularly it stopped any redness or rashes before becoming a problem. The only time there's ever been a problem has been during teething.
Bella - your amazing to be back and under your pre-pregnancy weight. I am hoping I can get back there really soon. I weighed myself on Friday when we got home from hospital and I had lost about 5-6 kilos, which means I have about another 6 to go. I ended up gaining around 12 kilos all up in the end.
So, we've had a few tough nights so far, A started cluster feeding on the first night home from about 1am - 5am, so very little sleep was had. Next night was the same but a bit more prepared, and managed 5 hours straight sleep for everyone once the cluster had finished. So, come last night I was mentally prepared but the cluster feeding didn't continue as before, she just cried her little lungs out for no apparent reason. Luckily DH had the touch and managed to calm her at 4am, while I quietly lost my s$@t and had a big cry. I had no idea feeling so helpless would be so heart wrenching and hard. She finally went off to sleep after another feed at 7am and is still asleep now.
I'll be trying to catch a few extra 40 winks today to too up the sleep reserves, I'm running on almost empty at the moment.
We also bought our dog home yesterday, he had been staying with my folks while in hospital. Their introduction was reasonably successful, but will have to be closely monitored. It's a big adjustment for him, but I think it will work out. It's just unfortunately added another layer of complexity to an already challenging situation.
Well that's enough whinging, the good stuff...I just absolutely LOVE her to bits, even in the hard moments I still manage to look at her and she makes my heart melt. DH this she's just the bees knees and comes up with the cutest nicknames for her. He's going to be an amazing dad.
Sorry for the huge post, just trying to play catch up and have a vent.
I hope your all recovering well, have behaving bubs and enjoying your newborns. And if your not that you are at least getting some support and know your not alone. XXX

Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Sometimes you feel so helpless Shanleem. E has wind pain now and when she is trying to fart she cries so bad. Then she farts and she settles right down. It's hard when the only way they can communicate is through crying. You'll soon figure out their hungry cry, painful cry etc but for now it's a bit of a guessing game.
So, turns out E has strep A ear infection so she is starting antibiotics for a week. Her finger is starting to clear up thank goodness. (I pulled a piece of skin off the side of her nail, the quick and it became infected Shanleem). Have also started her on infants friend before feeds to help with her wind pain which actually seems to calm her down a bit when she seems super fussy and sad. I am reading conflicting things about eliminating stuff from my diet so I'm in 2 minds about doing it.. So we'll give the meds time to do their job and hopefully she settles a bit more overnight.

Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Hi lovelies, thought I would try and catch up while I have 5 min.
BR I'm sorry to hear your E has been unwell. I hope she is on the mend soon.
Shanleem my miss E was so unsettled waiting for my milk to come in and had done some damage to my nipples. We have turned a corner now thank goodness. There is nothing worse then listening to them cry and being unable to help :(
Bella awesome work on the weight loss. I'm a couple of kg off pre preg weight.
I hope everyone else is well and settling in with life with a newborn.
All is good here. We had a rough start with feeding and I've been unwell but all is good now. Miss E is just beautiful and I could spend my entire day just cuddling her.
What did the ratio of boys to girls end up in our little group? I can't believe we have so many E names too lol
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Hi Ladies
I'm missing all your posts.
I need to catch up on you all. May take some time.
Miss M has been feeding great. I have been doing my normal routine of supplements and pumping and seeing the rewards. I'm freezing 600ml per day. That's the most I've ever been able to pump and freeze in any given session so my supply is much better this time. We are having to co sleep at night to get any sleep. For some reason she won't sleep in her bassinet at night. I can't believe she's 8 days old already.
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Wait a sec Porsche... You are nursing AND pumping 600mL extra? Woah! Go BOOBS! Hehehe

Sorry Shanleem I've cleared out my messages now. ..
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
BR I hope the antibiotics have helped E.
Porsche - wowee 600mls. Very impressive.
How are you ladies managing to express? I want to try start stocking freezer up for when I can get out for few hours without bub. I have tried my second boob after a feed but all I got was a few drops. Not even enough to keep.
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
I'm also interested in connecting on fb so if u want to be my friend pm me details.

I'm keen to connect on FB too :)
How are you all going?
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Oh I don't have Facebook :(
Millie will be 2 weeks old tomorrow.. Wow the time flies. She is such a good girl I feel so blessed. She is a good sleeper, waking every 3 hours of a night and is quick to settle afterwards... I hope it stays like this!!!
I can honestly say I love every little part of being a mum!
How is everyone else going?
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Hi mamas!!
So happy to hear everyone is enjoying your new additions! First timers, try to enjoy the newborn stage as it really doesn't last long!!
AFM, poor E is currently in PICU. He's caught a virus which has turned into a nasty case of bronchiolitis. He's slowly starting to improve, but it's been very scary. I wonder when the universe might cut this little fella some slack!!
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Oh poor little man!
I hope he is well and home with you soon. That must be so hard for you to have a sick bub. It would break my heart to see Millie sick :(
Keep us posted!
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Oh goodness Ashlee that's terrible. Especially when you have your other boys to look after. I hope you have loads of support where you are??
Miss E is still on her antibiotics but gosh it had made such a difference. Her ear has completely cleared up and she is sleeping heaps better now. Slowly slowly she is settling quickly during the night feeds rather than being awake for an hour or so afterwards. I can usually get her fed and settled back to sleep within 30mins which is so much better. I feel more human when I have had 3 hr blocks of sleep :happydance:
