Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Have you talked to your LC about helping you with attachment.
It took us a lot of practice to get it right, but eventually it all just worked itself out.
If your nipples are cracked and sore that won't be helping though, so just go as gently as you can if that's the case cause you don't want to cause any damage, as that could prolong the problem.
I hope it sorts out for you soon.

Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Myturn I was the same everyone said my attachment looked good but it was still uncomfortable. But I've found in the last week (Ad is 5 wks now) I think his little mouth is bigger and more able to latch on and I think it takes a while for your nipples to toughen up, seriously! I find when Ad latches on first it stings a bit then it eases. But definitely get help with this. I went to our local child health clinic for help. And practice lots, don't be afraid to break the latch as many times as you need in one feed until it feels better. Have you checked for tongue tie also? Just another thing to check for. But I think it's when they're teeny mouth is not able to take much areola and they nipple suck it hurts and it should get easier the older she gets. Good luck :)
-
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Yeah she had the tongue tie cut at the hospital. I saw the LC last week and I know what I am supposed to do, but can't always make it happen. It is more difficult late evening and overnight. This morning was easier. I guess supply being better in the am would help with that. She just doesn't seem to open her mouth wide enough. LC did suggest that her jaw may be a bit tight and we should consider an osteo.

Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Well we just had our immunisation shots this am. I think mummy definately struggled more than bubby. She screamed for 20 seconds then fell asleep, mummy is a bit traumatised and not looking forward to the next lot.
Home now, having snuggles on the couch, while it's all miserable and rainy. Not a bad way to spend the afternoon. It's helping me get over this mornings events at least.

Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Big hugs for shanleeem xox
-
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Hugs shanleem! It is a terrible thing isn't it. I hate it each and every time. I couldn't get an appointment till next week, so we are going on Monday. Not looking forward to it, but at least it will get done with hubby there to help me with the other kids.
-
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Oh I'm dreading them Shanleem :( poor bubbys. Hope she's ok now. Forgot to ask you Shanleem how often is A feeding now? Just wondering as she's same age as Ad and we're doing same feeding routine. .
-
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
A is doing ok now, we haven't had to resort to baby Panadol or anything yet, so I think we've made it through this lot of shots relatively unscathed.
As for feeding I start each day with a feed at 7am or there abouts and usually end up feeding every 3-4 hours. I usually end up giving 6-8 feeds a day, depending on how many times she wakes during the night. I aim for 7am, 10am, 2pm, 5pm and 9pm then whenever she wakes during the night. Each feed is bfeed both sides 10mins each followed by up to 100ml of aptamil formula, most feeds she's taking about 70ml formula but on occasions more and others less, but fairly consistently around the 70ml mark.
How are you feeling in terms of your supply. I've been waking up the last two mornings feeling really full. Even thought I might have to express a little so that A could get a good latch. I'm keeping everything crossed that the meds are finally working.
-
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Sounds good Shanleem that's a great sign fingers crossed for you.
I was able to just bfeed the night feed last night at 3am and Ad settled after without the formula! Hoping it's not a one off! Hoping gradually I can wean out another feed soon. Think meds might be working too :) I'm doing 8 feeds but an ABA counseller told me yesterday to cut down on formula a bit, therefore making him bit hungrier and fitting in another 2-3 feeds at least
-
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Yay that's awesome. I'm giving A an exclusive bfeed at 7am which she settles after, and hope to extend that to another one too, I might try the 5pm feed next.
I hate the situation we're both in but very grateful to be able to share the challenges with someone else. It makes it a little easier to handle knowing someone else is going through the same thing.
-
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Yeah same as Shanleem. Good to have support in this situation. I feel a bit cheated, I really wanted to breastfeed! But hey, we're doing all we can! My best friend thinks we're great, she said bfeeding is tough enough without the challenge of relactation! She reckons alot of people would have just gone down the formula road including her! I'm just grateful I can give him some milk :o
-
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
You poor ladies. I feel extremely lucky that I have had no trouble breast feeding at all. Could be because she has such a big mouth!
I haven't had alerts that anything has been happening in here for ages. I thought I'd just check in and wow - a lot has happened. Welcome myturn! So happy you finally have your bub. I know it's been a long journey.
Well I was back in theatre again Wednesday as had another infection. Dr pretty happy he finally has all my placenta out so fingers crossed once I finish this round of antibiotics that's it. Poor Miss M has woken snotty this morning. It's hard to see them sick :(

Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Thanks beau x
Bfing really is a lot harder than I imagined. I am thankful we only had one week of topping up. It drive me bananas and I tony think I could have continued when DH was at work.
She seems pretty unsettled after a feed at the moment though. Also her belly button is still bleeding.., is that normal?? She's 3 weeks as of yesterday. It's not pussy or anything. But she's getting dry blood on her singlets.
-
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Yes, the belly button bleeding is normal. 'A' had it for a week or two after the stumpy bit came off. Just keep it clean and don't worry about it, it's fine.

Re: Babies born ~ May 2014

Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Thanks black rose
We have a goopy eye over here :( but otherwise going well. BFing is going sooooooo much better. Milk is pouring out of me once it gets started. Ive stopped the extra pumping on most days cause I'll have milk, coming out of my ears in the freezer if I'm not careful.
Started using my MCNs yesterday. Reckon we will manage. Just ordered a few more online so we have enough for a couple of days in between washes. Also used my ring sling for the first time whole out in the shops yesterday and while doing a few chores at home this week. It was great to have both hands free :) thinking I might need a couple of different options of slings though. Not sure which ones are good for what purposes. Anyone have an opinion?

Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
It's so quiet in here!
Everyone come back!
A is 10 weeks old and it's safe to say she has absolutely everyone wrapped around her little finger!
She's all smiles and we are getting the odd giggle here and there.. But she really makes you work for them!
How is everyone doing?
-
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
My A is also 10 weeks old now. Getting lots of smiles and giggles, especially in the mornings. Still having issues with bfeeding, but persevering with both nursing when possible and expressing.
The wonder weeks are challenging though, just going through the 3rd leap at the moment, which seems to be affecting her sleep more than anything.
How's everyone else going?
-
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
I hear everyone talking about wonder weeks but I'm not exactly sure what they are? I notice some weeks she has been more unsettled than others and it shows with her sleeping.
Last night she slept from 9:30pm-6:30am! It was amazing! Although I did get up a few times to check on her!
-
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
There is a phone app about the wonder weeks, you can also buy the book. It helps describe the developmental leaps babies make and how their behavior is affected, and what we as care givers can do to ease and encourage babies through the leaps.
-
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Hello lovely ladies.
The wonder weeks book/app is fantastic.
All is good here. Starting to get some longer stretches of sleep which is nice. Miss E is quite the chatterbox and we get lots of giggles now. She is such a happy baby (most of the time).
I can't believe how quickly the weeks/months are flying by its crazy!
-
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
So I'm 7 weeks out .... Started spotting old blood on the weekend, pretty consistently on and off since....last time I bled was at 5 weeks.... Everything I read says you bleed for six weeks, but I'm 7.5 now.... Normal??
-
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
With each baby my cycle returns around then :(
-
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
I'd speak to your dr to check!
Mckenzie is now 14 weeks & I'm still bleeding. Have had 2 d&cs and looks another one on Monday as still 6mm of placenta left. Am hoping this is the last time. Over bleeding :(
-
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Oh beau! That sounds so crap!
Eddie is a little talker as well. He is 13 weeks atm. I feel like he is getting more and more sensitive to what I am eating. So no dairy, no coffee for me. Also no brassicas/broccoli or cauli for me. No spicy foods either. I am going insane!
-
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Oh beau thats terrible :(
Bella I've been wheat free/restricted for a while now to help with E's wind. I'm craving garlic bread and pasta lol
-
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Glad I am not the only one. Well I'm not glad that you and she are suffering, but glad someone else commiserates with me.
How are you doing now beau?
-
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Bella I'm praying that there is some truth to babies growing out of colic at 3 months and that we will be able to eat normally again
-
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
My hubby says that the paediatricians he talks to all say that most babies do grow out of it at 12-13 weeks. And that whatever the mother tries then, is then assumed to work because that is just when the symptoms settle down. So I have my fingers crossed.
-
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Just wanted to sneak in and say for DS his colic stopped at 14 weeks and he was a completely different baby. He has been and still is such a happy little guy since so hang in there I know how tough it is but it will pass xxx
-
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Hi ladies sorry iv been Mia. How are you fab ladies and little ones? Jason is 39 weeks and 9 months tomorrow.
He's going to be a big brother in June. ..I'm 16 + 3 weeks pregnant x
-
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Wow congrats. Your going to be one busy mum. :)
It's amazing how fast the time goes. I'd love to start planning for another one but I don't think hubby is there just yet.
All the best for a smooth pregnancy and an easy birth.
How have you been going so far?
-
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
This lo was not planned but is a true blessing. I'm doing ok been struggling with pain but I have been for many years. ...loving seeing how amazing Jason is doing every day. This latest pregnancy is okay I'm on asprin as my obstetrician thinks it was a clot that caused the failure in the placenta. It took a while to get our heads around it, how are you and your fab lo xxx
-
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
I saw your post footsteps and I was so happy for you :)
I remember after you had Jason you mentioned that your OB had said you may not be able to have another bub - so an extra miracle you have!
Amelia is so big now :) she is 7.5 months old and just started to crawl! I can't believe how much time has passed..
Shanleem- I have my days when I think I am ready for another, and then I get scared that I won't be able to cope with a toddler and a newborn- and I look at Amelia and I feel guilty for thinking about another child who will take my attention away from her and she will wonder what happened!
When do you know that your ready?
Any second/third timers have any advice?
-
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Emma- we were told they didn't know how I'd got pregnant with Jason and I know with this lo he's happy but worried. I have got appointments every 4 weeks max. The aim atm is to make it to 20 weeks...how's your lo? X
-
Re: Babies born ~ May 2014
Oh congrats Footsteps. That's is beautiful news. Good luck for this pregnancy. Hope all goes well for u.
Emma I feel exactly the same as you - one day I would love another one for Mckenzie to play with but then we have a bad day or night and I wonder how I would cope with 2. Plus it was a miracle we got her - am happy for now with one beautiful happy active girl. Just wish they would slow down a little. She has been crawling for 2 months already and is now trying to stand without support and ready to walk.
