Just thought I'd add after all my ranting and raving that I love love love my hairy little cherub more than words can say.....I'm so lucky to have had her and I just want to eat her up all day every day!!!! Mwah. Could kiss her little chubby cheeks off!!!

Shayna: I am doing BLS (no purees, just 'fingers' of food) and i was TERRIFIED (before i started) that Archie would choke, then i read the 'Baby Led Weaning' book by whatsisname and whositsface and it said that it is actually very rare for a baby to 'choke'... what many people believe is their child 'choking' is actually just their gag reflex stopping them from choking. They will be silent if they are really choking. You shouldn't pat them on the back either as this will distract them from dislodging the food themselves. Puree from a spoon actually gets pushed past a baby's gag reflex (which is more towards the front of the mouth but moves back as they get older) which makes them more likely to choke when lumpy foods are introduced. This is why i have chosen to do BLS, that and that i am lazy and cant be bothered having a whole other menu for Archie, he just has what we have. You can still give soft foods (like yoghurt, for example) but they say that if you let the baby have control of putting it in their own mouth they will be less likely to choke and have more feeling of them being in control about what they choose to eat which has lots of benefits in the long run. Geeezzz BLAH BLAH BLAH!!! haha! That was exactly what you wanted wasn't it?! A bloody essay! Oh but one more thing, solids is mainly about play until 12 months, as milk is wayyyy more nutricious than a bit of pumpkin or carrot, so let her 'play' with say, banana, and you'll find that she may get a little in her mouth and down her throat but most of it she will learn to spit out... another positive to not choking!! There, i'm done! haha! With the car seat thing, i will absolutely NOT be turning Archie around until he is at least 18..... well, not quite but i will be leaving him as long as possible!! Enough from me. PS Your little hairy cherub is just sooooo divine!!!

Telly: How are you gorgeous? Saw your latest pics and, seriously, you are gorgeous! far out!! Hot mumma! hahaha! I am feeling OK.... feeling pretty seedy most of the time, it is really strange though, nothing like either of my other pregnancies, this time it seems to be after i eat, not before like last time. I have discovered that i have to have something sweet after every savoury and that seems to help so maybe it is my blood sugar? Dunno but it's a good excuse... i've had about 65 chocolate bars in the last two days! (slight exaggeration....)
Angela: Plain yoghurt tastes like vomit..... hahahaha :sick: also, anytime i've tried anything with mince in the slow cooker it has come out GROSS!! it's like the tiny bits of mince crumble down to nothing and it has such a horrible texture errrrrrrrr.... i really do feel sick now.

Re the colostrum, everywhere i have read says that your body will produce enough for the new bub and your body knows what to do etc etc.... to be honest i don't think i want be feeding Archie after 12 months anyway, for starters i'm exhausted as it is, secondly, he has started BITING (God, give the kid teeth and he is already taking the p*ss three days in!!) and thirdly, can you IMAGINE having the time to sit there and feed a newborn AND a one year old???? Yep actually i think i just made up my mind!! hahaha! Obviously BFing is very important to me now but if it going to start affecting my life negatively then i will give up, i think 12 months is a good age.

Those who are BFing and who's bubs have got teeth..... OMG.... i don't know if it's just me, as my nipples are sore from being pregnant anyway but i am finding it REALLY uncomfortable to feed! Archie's lil teeth are soooo sharp and i feel like he clamps down on my poor nipples the whole time he feeds! And when he gets distracted he clamps down and THEN pulls away to look behind him! FRIGGEN OUCHHHHHHH!!!! I actually slapped him yesterday :redface: didn't mean to, it was just a reflex but he bit hard and it KILLED! I don't know what to do, bottles are looking better and better every day! haha!

I have a biter too - if I watched him to see if he's getting distracted I'd be able to take him off before he does it. I imagine its 100 times worse with pg nipples. I fed DS1 till he was almost 2 1/2 so I know it gets better, I think its just as they (& we) adjust to having teeth.
Hi everyone, just a quick one whilst the tribe is having breakfast.
As for the questions regarding food and for what is ok to give, we give Eden everything we are eating, bar peanuts of course (even DS doesn't get peanuts yet - he's had cashews though). So at the moment she is having vegemite on toast for breakfast. She has yoghurt during the day, I load up the spoon and give it to her, she is an ace shot at getting it in her mouth. None of the others have been that good!! One of her favourites is cream cheese on crispbread - she LOVES it. So she has that maybe every second day? She's not a huge fan of banana, but I give her half a banana every few days. She usually just drools all over it and spits it out.. LOL... and she'll have sandwiches for lunch as well as a stick of cheese, same as the other kids - I just make up her food as well when I make theirs. I figure if I'm already making 2 sangas, whats another one? But she hasn't had apple yet - thats the only fruit I haven't given her. She has a biscuit for arvo tea like the other two (plus she's usually grizzly around that time) and then for dinner she has what we are having (unless its something that the other two don't eat either). So last night she had tuna pasta bake, gagged on some pasta, but was all good - she doesn't choke on anything, just gag and up it comes. The night before she had sausages and vegies - she's so funny chewing the food up with no teeth, we have a little giggle at her most times.. haha (mean parents). So I hope that helps anyone deciding what to give their kids? She just eats what we do.
She's currently also having about 3 naps a day, usually a morning one, midday one and late arvo one. She usually wakes up around 5/5.30pm, then has dinner with us, then bath, bottle and bed. Usually in bed by 7pm.
She's been waking up for bottles in the middle of the night again - hasn't done this in AGES - but its usually 4am that she wakes for it. The other night it was 1.30am. So I suggested to DH this morning that we try giving her a dream feed before we go to bed, if she doesn't take it thats fine, we'll continue getting up whenever she needs a bottle, but it worked for the other two so may as well try it here. Although it didn't work very well with DD1, she would wake up fully for the feed, and then not go down for another couple of hours - but she has always been our problem sleeper (still is). She's the reason why we have nights where we only get to sleep for an hour and a half or 2 at the most.
Gawd in between writing this I've been telling DS off - so funny to yell and then come back and try to concentrate on what I was babbling on about. Grrrr to DS.
Better go, need to get changed for the day, hang out nappies, put another load of washing on, clean up kitchen - and play with the kids!!!!!! I'm trying to get on here early in the mornings when the kids are occupied with food, or late at night when they are in bed. Since I go to the gym most nights it doesn't leave a lot of time to do that though.
Oh - almost forgot, Eden isn't crawling yet, or have any teeth. She can sit up for a little bit on her own but slides to the side most of the time. The others didn't sit or get teeth until 7 months, so I'm not expecting anything from her until then :)

Hi Kymmy - out of the girls at mums group who are still BF'ing most are down to one BF a day purely due to the pain in being bitten. One's bub has 4 teeth and is actually drawing blood. I'm kinda glad I'm FF'ing to be honest lol! OUCHHHHH!
Hi Mel - I was told yesterday that the longer their teeth take to come out the stronger they will be. I'm hoping Amelia's take a while then because I have terrible teeth, they might be straight but they're soft and full of fillings so I don't want her to have my pegs. DH has 1 filling, grrrrrr!
Oh and had a debate with the inlaws yet again last night. They really really full on lectured me about taking Amelia swimming in the indoor pool. Apparently the chemicals are bad for babies under 2, they really made me feel crap last night. We came home and DH did some research and it's looking like they might be right. DH wants me to stop taking her after our block of already paid for lessons have finished at the end of this month. I told him he'll have to build me a pool then at the other house, if we have to move that's the deal! She loves swimming and I love taking her. Anyone else heard anything? Apparently some research has been done in Europe and those exposed to breathing in chlorine chemicals at indoor pools have a higher risk of asthma and also respiratory problems - once they hit 2 their lungs are formed enough not to be so affected. As you can see by my FB I've had quite a response and it's all for swimming. I'm not sure I can argue with DH, especially if he has her health in his best interests but I'm still torn. DH's niece did swimming as a baby and has had non stop chest infections, asthma, colds - I personally think a lot of it has to do with the fact she was shoved in daycare from a very early age and also her mum has asthma. I was livid last night, I felt ganged up on and DH just sat there and didn't say a word - men and their parents honestly!!!!!
kaili was a biter too. i agree w snowy - it def settles down. im still bfing theo, noplans on stopping when the teeth start coming through but we'll see when it actually happens.
kaili has out of no where started to DRAW PICTURES! im soo excited! No more scribbles, she is really starting to draw things, elephants, spiders, self portraits, oh i just love it!! I find im taking photos of them all, and my head is swelling with pride, haha! none of the kids of MG are doing this yet! woop!! Had a huge fight with her this morning. Every morning she refuses to wear leggins because she wants to wear a 'dancing skirt/dress', this morning I didn't let her get her own way. holy cow!!! what a tanny@!!!! Needless to say we ending up giving story time at the library a miss. argh, girls!! Ladies please tell me boys are different and dont care what you dress them in!
Wooooop on Archie starting to wave!!!!!! Theo has started to clap his hands!! Well not really 'clap', he puts them together as he watches us do it, no noise just yet. still very proud tho. he is now crawling very easily, everything is straight in the mouth. If i dont sweep up 100 times a day he always finds biscuits and crap under the kitchen table to munch on :rolleyes: Took a while for him to master crawling while wearing long pants (his knees would slide on the polished floors), but he's good now, and even gets a bit of a speed up!
jds mum cheese is fine. im doing a bit of whatever we're eating i'll let theo have a taste. and im never concerned with the choaking gagging thingo. i leave him be and he sorts himself out. my mum freaks tho - irritates me.
Ali - i just give theo avocado plain, mashed up. boo to your inlaws. how irritating about your dh keeping his mouth shut!! What is it with inlaws?! Have you guys decided to move to their old place?? save living next door to them too!! buggar thatfor a joke! lol

i dont bother putting him on a blanket when we're outside now- no point to it. apparently grass is really tasty, lol.

shayna - we turned theo around last weekend. TBH he could have stayed rear facing, as he didn't cry. But he spent his life with his neck strained trying to sit up, ifywim. and then when id talk he'd just about break his back trying to see me. So annyway, DH had enough, said it was cruel, lol. He turned him aroud, and i didn't really protest. ive seen that clip too. Just my decision and i'm happy with it. We could have turned him around at 4 months, as he was 8.2 kg then. some people dont even wait until their 8 kg. everyone to their own. I love bb, but some times its a classic for making you feel like youre not doing things right, and youre a bad mum. Please dont take offence anyone. example - bfing, solids too young, smacking a bum, circumcision, natural birth vs epidural/drugs... do things YOUR way. youre a great mum, and you know whats best.

Thats totally right Telly - and I agree. I only posted the link for those who hadn't seen it - I believe in make your own choices, but its better to make them if you are educated about the pros and cons to each decision.
Gawd knows I've made some complete stuff ups in my parenting journey that I feel totally and utterly guilty about, and I may not have made those same choices if someone had educated me ya know? I'd hate for anyone at all - but particularly people from BB - to feel guilty about anything.

I am really peeeeeeed off right now. My best friend is a real hard person for most people to get along with.. She is very opinionated and thinks she is right ALL the time. Anyway today I was asking her if she has had the Downs test (she is also PG) and she said that she had and then asked me if I was going to have it. I told her I hadn't decided yet as Ive heard a few times that people have been told their bub was VERY high risk and been encouraged to abort (including one of the mums from school) and then the bub was born perfectly normal. So I was just saying how it is not an accurate enough test amd would cause alot of stress yada yada yada.. Anyway, she totally snaps at me saying of course it's accurate and I need to stop googling things just to challenge the drs and blah blah blah!!!! She says things like this all the time! Basically ANY decision i make in regard to ANYTHING she will challenge it!! She gives me the absolute sh*ts sometimes! I'm so angry! I am one of few people who is close friends with her for this reason! She is ALWAYS right, even her DP said that if they didn't have a baby they wouldn't be together cos she is so argumentative. Grrrrrrrr!!! I ended up saying to her that maybe she should do some MORE googling and look into important things a bit more rather than following the herd. So anyway... I'm avoiding her. She is ten times worse when she is pregnant and she is not a very nice person to be around at the best of times so she is a nightmare now!!!!

Frenemy sounds like just the word!! She is more like family really, our family has known her since I was about 12 and she has just slotted in like one of my sisters. I suppose that's why I feel this love/hate thing for her!! Grrrrrrrr!
Aw Kymmy.....it's frustrating dealing with people like that isnt it!! Me and my DH are 'always right' and we have some good barney's - both Tauruses so maybe that's the problem!!?? Just give yourself some space from her and maybe you'll feel better after that....
Telly - Abbey does the same thing....she wobbles around mid air trying to sit herself up more and cranes her little neck to try and get a look into the front of the car....will get her weighed next week to see how she's doing....she was only 7.4kg when she had her needles about 3 weeks ago...
AFM - Tonight we just had cutlets and mash and vegies for tea so I slopped some mash onto Abbey's high chair table and gave her a cutlet bone and let her go for it....she had a great time, made a huge mess but was much more happier than me trying to spoon it all into her mouth.....I also gave her half a banana at lunch to play with and she enjoyed that for a bit as well as some more toast but I cant stop myself from grabbing it off her when it get's soggy or she starts to cough and carry on like it's stuck in her throat.....I panic and just grab her....I have to stop doing this but I dont know how to??
So if we are having say lasagne or shepherd pie for tea what do I do with it for Abbey?? Do I puree it up a bit then give it to her on her tray? Or just chop it up into really small bits?? OMG Mel, I dont know how I would cope with giving Abbey a crispbread....I think I'd nearly throw up from nerves from worrying that she'd choke on the damn thing!!!
She has been a whingy girl today and rather clingy....she loves sitting up in the trolley now at the shops with the Trolley Mate that we've got to give her a bit of padding in case she topples a bit....she get's a lot of attention of people saying how she little is to be sitting in there etc!!
I think that's it....going to watch the Amazing Race in a sec....another one of my faves!!!

It is nerve wracking the first time they seem to choke, but they're not choking, they're gagging. And if Abbey is anything like Eden, she brings it straight back up (pretty much) or I just get down to her level and remain calm (even though I'm freaking inside) and just say calmly - cough it up Eden, come on girl, cough it up - and she always does. Tonight she gagged on potato, and I just turned to her and asked if she was alright, and she'd already coughed it up into her mouth - so all was good!! Try not to freak out - although it is hard - but they sense when you are freaking and I think it makes it harder for them to relax you know? She just gums her crispbread to death, all the drool and everything softens it up really well, and she just sorta gums it and then swallows. She hasn't ever gagged on it.:
If I was serving lasagne or shepherd's pie (which I dont' cook cos I don't have good recipes for them and wouldn't have a CLUE how to make them haha) I would just serve her plate up exactly the same as ours. EXACTLY the same. At the moment, she tends to dump it straight on the floor by grabbing the plate, so I show her the plate, then dump it all on her tray from the plate.. LOL... most of it ends up on the floor anyway.
You have to be comfortable with the idea of BLS though - otherwise its too nerve wracking for you and you'll drive yourself crazy. If you're not comfortable with it - don't do it :) Do what works for you too - as well as your baby ;)
OMG Kymmy - that is the same as the girl from work who had a baby 9 weeks after me - the one I always moan about on here! THAT'S HER!!!!!!! I've had to distance myself because I just can't handle it anymore, she was bad enough before pregnancy, worse when pregnant and tripley worse now she has a baby!!!!!!! I occasionally have to endure an hour or so with her as I find it hard to keep making excuses - ie tomorrow I'm going walking with her god help me but I haven't seen her in about 5 weeks (other than at swimming last week when I didn't really speak to her much). I always attract people like that!
Now, as for the downs test, each to their own on having it so she shouldn't have made that comment to you. I had it but it's not to say I would've gone ahead with the amnio - my friend had a 1 in 41 result so had the amnio and her baby was fine. My doctor likes to see it above 300 and I was 1 in 571 so that was enough for him/me. Besides, by the time you find out you're a fair way in so would you want to go ahead with a termination that late, I'm not sure I would but hard to say until you're in the position I guess! What will be will be and you do what feels right for you.

kymmy - OMG what a pain in the ass! haha! Ak i hate people like that. You do whats best for you. I totally understand what you're saying, whats the point - you would keep your bubby anyway. I had it done, simply for the fact that i liked seeing my baby on the ultrasound, and the more times the merrier, haha! ;)
Shayna - yep theo loves his trolley mate too. makes shopping heaps easy! mummy is definately a fan! I give theo cruskits with vegemite - they're AWESOME! They just kinda mush down to nothing, he absolutely LOVES it! highly recommend them!
AFM - Theo is now trying to 'help himself' to the milk bar. hehe. In the trolley mate today, he kept trying to pull my top down and kept sucking the top of my boobs (he couldn't get the nipple out, hhaha). He also does it when we hop out of the shower. I sit him on the change table to put a singlet on and he tries to latch on while im standing there. DH is horrified, haha, i just laugh, think its cute. DD never did things like that.
Been sooo bad for my diet so far this week :redface: chinese takeway last night. roast pork and gravy sanga for lunch today.. with chips, lol, then a coffee and hazelnut brownie for afternoon tea (mind you its only 1:20, hahaha). On wednesdays weigh in I was 76.4kg (28kg lighter than what i was preggers w theo :) ) Akkkk Which just reminds me of something annoying DH did!! Yes I tell you ladies how fat i was, but its you, and i love you, and i know you don't judge me. But DH went and told the b*tchy receptionists at his work that im now 76kg, and one of them said, "how much has she lost", and he replied "30kg!!" Apparently she just gave him this look of "omg what a fat slob". Keep your mouth shut chris! dont want people to know my numbers!!!!

Hi Telly - grrr to DH, I don't give numbers to mine but I don't think he would do that, he knows I'd cut his b*lls off if he did lol. I was down 3.5 kgs on Monday, another 2.5 kgs to go before I hit pre preggars weight so hoping to get back to that soon. I still don't know how much I put on as I told the midwife to stop telling me with a couple of weeks to go - I think I got fairly close to 20 kgs though! Considering I'm 5'3", woops! lol Oh who cares! I'm going for a nice long walk today but can't find my socks, you know you haven't exercised enough when you can't find your bloomin socks!
Dropping Amelia's 3rd nap worked yesterday! She hit the wall at 6.00 pm so I bathed her, gave her her bottle (she had her first dinner solids at 5.00 pm) and went to bed and she slept until 7.00 am! She fussed a couple of times but didn't actually wake up last night. Not sure it will work today, I am going walking right when she's due for her nap so it could backfire on me today if she doesn't sleep in the pram. Oh well, I just go with the flow, I'll let her decide what she wants to do.
Oh girls, do you remember me telling you about that girl I invited to mums group who has a learning difficulty so is a bit "different"? Well as I explained before she's really sweet and very harmless but the other girls have been horrible. Anyway, she hasn't been coming as her baby (who has a genetic muscle disorder) has gymbaroo, she is nearly finished and wants to come back. The girls have been so nasty about it...just so you can see what they say I'll copy what was said this morning on FB:
This is from the 18 year old who's bub is in hospital because he isn't putting on weight: "I was going to say something on that other thread about her missing gymbaroo, she needs to grow up and put her child first! I know firsthand how hard it is to feel isolated with a child but leon is my number one priority and as much as i love mums group or the opportunities i get to see my friends, they will always come second when it comes to the well being of my son.
I know she's harmless but i personally can't be bothered with her. I don't mind her being there but i just tend to ignore her...including on facebook! Haha but still i don't mind :) and that's my rant for the day."
She's young so I guess you can put it down to that but how horrible is that. Then this from a 32 year old:
"As for Kate, personally I'd rather she never came in the first place, but she did and it's actually my own issues with people like that than her. So I need to just get over myself and stop being so judgemental and more tolerant of people who aren't "normal". I actually totally forgot to add her into this message. I don't think it's right that she's forgoing Jacob's gymbaroo for our catch ups but that's really got nothing to do with me. So there you go, you kind of get the gist I hope - she's never done anything to anyone, she's just a bit different and says things like, "you're my best friends" and that freaks them out. Don't they get that she isn't "quite like us" so doesn't understand how to put things into words. I think she needs the interaction with us more than anything and like I said to my other friend at mums group who is also horrified at their attitude (she's a child psychologist), karma is great and heaven forbids if they ever have a child with a disability!
Anyway, that's my whinge, thanks for listening lol. Missy is hungry, I'm going to try avocado today - wish me luck!
