Lolpigs - I'm glad I could help yes, I wake Jess for a feed. The theory is the more food they have during the day the better chance they will sleep longer at night. With DS I let him sleep and he would sleep for 4-5 hours straight during the day. Then at night he'd be up every hour or two at night. It went on for four months and it nearly killed me. I became a different person. I put him on a routine after reading Tracy Hogg's book and it worked for us. Jess will wake up for most feeds but the most I let it get to is 3.5 hr then I wake her up with a cuddle then she's screaming for the milk lol.
I thought Jess didn't like wrapping and had stopped. It didn't help keep her asleep. I'd noticed she would scare herself with the startle reflex and then she would wake up. I've changed the way I wrap her to wrap each arm individually so she can move them around and she is sleeping better.
Mollie - it is a tough day when DH goes back to work. I felt the same. Each day I become more confident and adapt better. Can you call someone to come over if you are finding it too exhausting? Or go to your mums place so you can nap? Even if you do it once a week it will help or even knowing the option is there.
Don't blame yourself if she isn't settling. It's normal for newborns to have unsettled periods. It doesn't reflect on your mummy skills. Same stuff happening here. I just take it as it comes. When it has been too long I pass her to DH to try to settle her.
AM it can take me 1.5 hours to settle miss J. Night times are worse than day time. For her it is gas that causes it.
Amanda glad to hear all is going well. DS has a nut allergy. He had mild eczema as a young baby. I had a feeling he might have an allergy. The first time I gave him eggs I just dipped some toast in a tiny bit of yolk. He had a nap shortly after then woke with a red rash all over his forehead. Had to avoid giving egg for a long time. The trend is then a possible nut allergy.
Didn't give him any until he had a bite if my muesli bar when he was 3. His lips swelled up straight away. I've got to get him tested again. A few weeks ago he had picked up a nut at my mums that he wasn't allergic to then he must've rubbed his eye. His eye then puffed up. It's always a good idea if you are worried about food allergies to introduce foods one at a time when doing solids. That way you know what caused it. Be careful of strawberries before 12 months too, can bring out severe allergies.
The lady at the clinic asked me how the BF went. I told her what happened in addition to DS being sIck and she agreed there was no point in continuing. Thank goodness I didn't get a lecture! Jess is now 4 kilo's so the formula is agreeing with her!!
Got some great tips for gas. She felt her tummy and it was full of gas as it was hard. Their tummies are supposed to be soft like ours. She showed how me to press firmly with my palm on her tummy. Then to move the gas from her right to left tummy by pressing and moving it along. It was very interesting! Will definitely give it a go tomorrow.
