I'm the master of shhhhhhh in our house lol.

Levi has been screaming after a feed. I'm sure it's something I've eaten as his poos are green or very dry looking but I can't work out what. I'm going to try cutting my dairy out, I've not had bananas or tomato for a week thinking it may have been that, obviously not.

Aw thanks CK I hope it helps! It'll be good for him to get some perspective cos I don't think he realises the way he speaks sometimes! Hehehe @ Alex waiting for let down and laying back for it to squirt into his mouth, how cute!! Violet I think sometimes finds it comes out too fast, then pulls her mouth away and ends up getting squirted in the face!

How often does everyone bath their babies?

How much should babies vomit? Violet does after ever feed!! Sometimes it's just positing but sometimes it's quite a lot more!?

Still having to get up for feeds every three hours- anyone know how to extend the times between feeds?!

Alex is a chucker too - most of the time it's just little possets, but sometimes he has a decent one. Like last night that went all down my front. All completely normal although you do find you make friends with your washing machine and get used to the smell of spewy milk. If it was constant powerchucks or projectile I'd maybe get it checked out, but little bits even after every feed is fine.

As for extending the times between feeds, that doesn't happen until later really. Every 3-4hrs is quite normal for a bf baby, sometimes even more in hot weather or during growth spurts. About the only thing I'd suggest is to make sure she's completely full before finishing a feed.

Amanda i bath/shower Abby at least once a day, she seems to settle at night really well after a bath and being put into a onesie then a feed. I also showered her this morning cos she pooped everywhere.

Spewing is completely normal, some babies just spew alot more then others. DS1 he puked constantly for 4 months and DS2 was more like nearly 12 months where as DD very rarely spews at all, TBH i don't even burp her much it just doesn't bother her.

As for feeding, 3 - 4 hourly is the norm for a BF or FF bub. Abby tends to do one longer stretch overnight and i'm only up normally once anywhere from 3-5am but i'm in the habit of giving a last feed at 10-10.30pm without fail. I've found it's just a matter of finding your groove and trying to stick with it.

I definitely have a sleep fighter. She amazes me. She woke up at 5am then stayed awake pretty much until midday. She just has a few 10 min naps here and there no matter what I do. Very frustrating!!! Not sure if this is due to her reflux or it's just her.

Umm I'm really worried, DH thismorning was looking after violet and her dummy fell in the ground and he sucked it and then put it back in her mouth (he said he has seen his sister do it with her baby to "clean" the dummy?! Seems very unhygeinic to me?! Correct me if I'm wrong!) I was like um what are you doing?! Anyway he's jut spent the last hour or so throwing up - must have some stupid virus and I'm terrified violet will get it?!

having a really bad day, after 4 days of bub not sleeping i've had it. The last 2 days bubs has not been sucking well again and is expending more energy than she eats, I think this is why she suddenly cant sleep. She was so tired just now she couldnt even eat but was starving. It was horrific. I was in tears, and have decided enough is enough. I got hubby to give her a bottle and I pumped but nothing came out. So I cant even give her that.

Looks like I wont be able continue breastfeeding as much as I know it is great for bub, we just dont seem matched. She just does not seem able to suck well enough and fast enough to get what she needs without expending too much energy. I have to burp her 6 times a side just to keep her sucking because she prefers to fall asleep instead.

I'm waiting to see what happens after the bottle but she took the whole 100ml, and after some crying for a few mins completely settled down. Not aleep but not screaming for the first time in days.

At 6 weeks approx hoe much formula should she be having? I'm an emotional wreck atm..

Amanda that cleaning dummy thing is very old fashioned and not recommended for that exact reason that your DH is now sick. I've got so many dummies and keep them sterilized with lid on so I don't have to worry if they fall, which they do all day long!

You are BF so Violet has some immunity, hopefully she will be fine. Worrisome I know. Parenting is a learning curve and your DH will learn eventually that what one parent does may not be correct or suited to your bub. We had to learn the same thing, not everyone is educated on everything. Hope she will be ok for you.

Lolpigs don't let it get you down. I went through the same thing. I let myself be down for a day then let it go. If Jessica is happy with formula then I'm happy. I couldn't listen to the screaming and she wasn't feeding. It was one less thing to worry about. I've BF and FF and really it is the same bonding for me. If anything the BF made me resentful with DS after a few months because it was do hard. I know BF is better for babies but it isn't best if they arent feeding. Are you sure it just isn't a bad day and it is the feeding? Maybe call Karitane for another opinion?

BIG MASSIVE to you hun! You have given Lilly a great start even if you cant keep going!! The girls in my belly group go by the tin... if thats any help!!

Lolpigs what your feeling emotionally atm is really normal and i've come out the other side feeling ok about having to FF. I'm the same as Jan i BF DS2 for 10 months with alot of hard work mind you, but Abby is so much happier on the formula it was like having different child and my nipples have thanked me 100% as well. Any time you are feeling down come on here and let it out cos it was only you girls that have got me through my emotional mess, DH's don't quite understand and we are all at the same age with our bubs. In the end it is only you that will know what is best and what way is best to move forward from here. Abby is having anywhere from 100-150ml of formula for a feed but you got to remember that Lilly being BF is only used to smaller amounts so she might only want to take around the 100mls for a little bit but will in a few days to a week take the recommended or closer to the 150mls for her age, I found this with Abby anyway.

Crap Amanda I hope your DD dosen't get what DH has! Silly bugger, tell him to stick them in the microwave to steralise them. Ack!

Ok had a melt down yesturday guess that happens when you haven't slept for so long. Went to the Dr, DD has Colic and possibly reflux as well which is affecting her eating sleeping and everything really.

Explains why sometimes she is too tired to eat or refuses, also explains why she wants to be rocked and carried all day, (no BM at night so sleeps fine).

Dr upped my meds for Motilium, to 8 tablets a day and its making a difference he said to keep going, that it wasnt my milk that was the issue.

Still very emotional about it all thank you for the support girls means the world xx

Levi's been having trouble doing a poo but once it's out it is normal (colour etc). Seems to be first thing in the morning that is his main issue.

He slept a 5 hour block last night and then a 2.5 hour block before the morning poo saga started. Still not sure if I feel normal or not lol.

Awwwww lolpigs, Hun, you poor thing!! Completely understand how awfully stressful that would be for you! Wonderful news that the dr has said its not your milk that's the issue! And that the increased meds help! It's hard dealing with emotional stuff like that on no sleep- no wonder you got so upset! Hoping heaps for you that things improve quickly!!

Jan, thank you it really is a learning curve and I'm such a worrier (was thru the whole pregnancy and still am now with her here!) so it's scary thinking she might get sick! I was so peeved at him doing that, how totally gross! He was like, do you think I caught something from violet?! I'm like ummm I don't think so, what could he have possibly gotten to pass to you?! It's the germs from him to her that I'm worried about!

Jan, hows things with you guys? Your DH any better? Still planning in going home Christmas eve?

I feel queasy this morning and worried I might be catching whatever DH had, bu it might just be my brain telling me I feel sick cos I expect to be! So far violet is okay so fingers crossed it stays that way!

AM, aww does he get upset trying to go? That must be hard for you! Hope it gets better.. It's a good sign that it looks normal in his nappy!

Has anyone had experience with nappy rash yeast infection? The nurse said violet had one, so bought the cream, used it for seven days, it cleared up and it's back again!

Amanda, it when he is trying to go. Like its a huge effort (or big solid poo) but then its normal yellow runny BF poo. Its strange.

With the nappy rash, keep it up for a few days (even a week) after its gone. The visible redness goes first but it wont have completely cleared up under the skin. As soon as you see any redness in her leg folds or on her bottom start it again. Eventually it will go.

My sister in law has never sterilized dummies or toys for her kids. I think she only does the bottles. My MIL was horrified when she found out (but is the kind to keep her opinion to herself, thankfully lol). Levi spat his dummy and it landed on the floor, she picked it up and asked if I had a fresh one, when I said yes she grinned and said 'at least someone has the right idea, the other kids just get given whatever'. I knew what she meant lol.

As for sucking on a dummy to *clean* it, I did it all the time for Harriett and have been doing it for Zoe as well

Never hurt Harriett and it hasn't hurt Zoe either! I sterilise her bottles and that's it I personally think there is too much sterilisation of stuff for babies, and kids, and adults! and personally, I think that is why there is so many different sicknesses out there!

Thanks for the yeast infection advice, I stopped using it just as the redness went away so will start using it again and make sure I use it for a while after the rash goes! Good point!

Nikky good point you make really- probably helps their immune systems build up by being exposed to different stuff! I'm just peeved at the bad timing that he happened to do it right as he was getting gastro! But so far she seems okay so fingers crossed!! Good luck at Zoe's appointment!!

Lolpigs I was going to ask you if the doctor had ruled out colic and reflux as some of the symptoms sounds like what Jess does. Don't be hard on yourself. Colic and reflux are terrible things and makes for a very labour intensive baby.

Try to get your hands on a baby wedge or elevate her cot/bassinet and change table with a towel. It makes such a difference. I can't lie Jess flat. It is recommended to keep them upright for a feed for 20-30 mins even if they fall asleep. There are things you can try like Karicare thickener for formula if you go down that path.

I'm glad to hear it isn't your milk supply. Apparently most babies grow out of reflux/colic between 3 and 4 months. If you have any questions pm me xoxox

Amanda thanks I don't want to jinx myself but I see some improvement from yesterday. Cross fingers for us! Though now DS is sick with a bad virus so back to doctors for us today.

We are still going home Xmas eve. So grateful to my parents for their help. Sorry but dont know about yeast infections. I hope it clears up soon for her.

feeling better today

Thanks Jan xo Today is much better most likley becuase I know what I need to do for her now to get her sleeps during the day. Which is carry her in the sleepy wrap. That way she is staying rested enough to eat properly thank goodness. I'm going to the OB today for my 6 week check up but going to leave bubs with DH and go out on my own so she can rest.

I just ordered this for her http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?...=45667&image=1 as it came highly recommended for Colicy or Refuxy babies or just those that are really fussy. I have been elevating her bassinette with a towel, although I have found that during the day she just won't have a bar of it scared I think and wanting comfort because of the attacks. At night I've stared doing an evening feed, then bath time and then rocking her ot sleep in the bassinette so she at lesat is in it during the night. Funny how it dosent seem to bother her then.

I'll let you know how it goes, becuase at the moment she just loves being rocked for the comfort.

Glad to hear you have some improvement that is great news Lilly just started Losec yesturday so we have to wait at least a week to see if it helps. Dr says it won't harm anything if it dosen't help, so we shall see. Going back to Pead in first week of Jan.

She had a bad episode this morning, attacks usually last about an hour. Poor thing. I wouldnt like my bowel to cramp and spasam either!

Amumma we get that poo episode too. Sometimes takes an hour sheesh! She seems alot better however on just BM as she goes more often so they aren't as big and troubling for her Colic I think.

Oh noes about the yeast infection Amanda I hope it clears up soon. DD hasn't seemed to get anything like that so far, the cloth nappies seem to really agree with her sensitive skin. It always gets red if I have to use sposies for whatever reason :\
