Merry Christmas!!! Our bubs weren't here this time last year and we didn't know what the year ahead would bring! It's extra special today. Hope you have a great day!
Merry Christmas ladies, families and lil babies. Been busy baking today after the kids were all sorted with there pressies... They got so spoilt this year and Abby has been pretty much sleeping all day apart from maybe an hour.
I still got Abby in newborn nappies but I've also used my BBH and itti bitti's a couple of times. Not much involved in folding them really especially the itti bitti Tutto's I got and I find they fit her a bit better too.
CK I've been putting Abby in the pool since 2.5 weeks but we have our own pool so i'm not real worried about cleanliness and the pool is pretty warm too as we have been getting 45 degree days.
We went over to a friends for dinner tonight and for some reason Abby will not settle when we are at there place. We quite often go to another friends place and settles really quickly with her dummy and sleeps in her pram there though, so I'm not sure what the go is.
She got dressed up today in her Xmas tutu her Nanny and aunt sent her so I'll upload a pic of it for those who I don't have on Facebook.

We had the best day as it was Christmas with my whole family. Aubree got very spoilt :) we are off on or BIG adventure to Mildura today to see the outlaws... Great (please note I have said this with a great deal of sarcasm)

How was everyone's day yesterday? We had a pretty awesome day, Alex spent the day charming his Nanna and Aunties by being so cruisy and happy, then back to me for a feed and change before drifting off to sleep in the pram, despite all the noise. He got some lovely presents and has spent this morning laying in his little nest chattering away to them while I was clearing some bench space for my sparkly new KitchenAid :D
What a long day... We have just arrived at the outlaws place... Let the games begin!

Hope everyone had a great christmas :) I am feeling so Full from all the Food!! We had a lovley time with Grants mother here she is just lovley.
OOo I have a kitchen aid mixer too a professional one.
Figured out what was going on with Lilly. Had my Husbands mother here over christmas. Discovered becasue of her experience breastfeeding that Lilly is a lazy sucker which is why we are having so much issues! She fed her on the bottle and was amazed at her falling asleep there too.. so it isn't slow flow issues.
We are going to pump now I get about 100ml a time and feed her that and make up the weight in formula. So nice to know what is happening and I can finally get my life on track now! Changing to Goats milk formula too for top ups, the Nan HA is making her constipated, and making her strain. She also has broken out in pimples all over poor thing.
So hot here last few days. Lilly does not like the heat at all and has been really unsettled and not sleeping. She also took a few days to get over the vaccinations having sore legs so needed some panadol poor pet :( But doing better today and she REALLY loves her Fisher Price Swing. She now will only take her day naps in it and bassinette is for night time LOL funny bubs :)
Hmm Lilly seems to be cat napping during the day and sleeping a big stretch in the early evening, then again after that feed for about 3 hours, then back to cat napping this seem ok? I thought she had to do big sleeps during the day too? I have her down stairs with us during the day, perhaps I should try and get her to go down in her bassinette upstairs?
Levi feeds about 7-8am, then sleeps until about 9am. We play until his next feed then he feeds and naps on and off until 2-3pm. Wakes about 4:30-5pm for a feed, hubby gets home about 5:20pm so he gets to play with him. He feeds at 8:30pm, goes down about 10pm and sleeps until 4:30-5am. Normally take 30-40mins. Sleeps until 7-8am.
For Levi's big sleeps he goes into his cot but when he is cat napping I leave him in his bouncer so
I'm not always going back into his room.
Alex usually goes to bed around 8-9pm and will sleep to 2am, wake up to feed and then back to sleep till around 6-7am. At that wake up he'll have a feed, get dressed for the day and then a play on his mat while I have breakfast, by about 8-9am he's ready for another top up feed and a snooze. Usually wakes up again at around 11-11.30am, the afternoon follows a pretty similar pattern of feed, play, feed again then sleep.
Some days he catnaps, particularly when it's a bit warm and he's waking to feed frequently because he's thirsty. Other days he has his 1.5-2hr daytime sleeps, so shorter than his night sleeps but long enough. He will either sleep in his rocker or in his cradle in our room, it doesn't really make that much difference to him for some reason, same as when we're out he'll sleep in the pram as well. He does prefer quiet or at least reduced visual stimulation to get to sleep but once asleep will sleep through just about anything.
I'd give it a go having Lilly upstairs if she's easily roused by what's going on around the house during the day, you can always change back if it's not working for you. It usually takes a fair bit of trial and error to find something that works, and then of course just when you think you've got them worked out they'll change their mind about something....
Poor Alex has had a bit of a rough morning today though - think all the mega-rich food of the last couple of days has finally caught up with him. Had a huge runny green poo this morning and has now finally dropped off to sleep after a lot of grizzling/feeding/burping/farting.
Thanks guys, She seems to be rapidly changing her patterns lately so its getting confusing. We were doing upstairs daytime sleeps of an hour to an hour and a half, but since having the vaccinations she wanted to sleep downstairs in her swing chair alot, even for night time sleeps, and now last night took awhile to settle becuase of the heat but slept from 9:30 - 3am fed then sleep from 4 - 7am, then feed, then sleep from 8-9 in swing chair, then feed, then awake time with mum then sleep from 11 - 12 in swing chair, awake time then cat nap on dad till 1:15 then feed then more cat naps with waking in between then feed at 3:15 and now here we are.
She dosent seem to have a routine, just she seems to rapidly change what she wants every day. We do a bath time at around 7-9 every night and over night she sleeps fine once she is settled.
She is on her play at with me ATM because she didn't want to sleep after her last feed. (as she cried out to me after I left her in the bassinette with her jingle bell when she was punching it becuase she realised I was gone.) She is feeding alot lately and I have noticed her trying to talk alot, laugh, trying to suck on her hand and work out how to suck on her thumb so perhaps all the learning and alertness is messing with her schedule?
Kinda at a loss how to improve her sleeps
Heh, it's funny I did that with Alex the other day - he wasn't crying or yelling for me (he has this squeal that kind of says "Oi, come get me" that isn't really a cry as such) but was just laying in his cradle chattering away - until he drifted off to sleep on his own when he was ready. She'll let you know if she wants you, but she may just surprise you and nod off when she's ready :)
Hehe yeah, she realised I wasn't there and cried out, so we had mat time, and then she was fussing so I put her in the swing and shes drifted off. Funny thing. She seems to be sleeping but in broken amounts rather than, solid 1.5 - 2 hour blocks like before.
Hopefully that will go back to normal soon!
Levi does that, chats and squeals away until he falls asleep. He does a half effort cry if he wants picking up and a full cry if he's hungry or has a wet nappy.

Violet gave DH her first real smile yesterday and again today- she hasn't smiled at me yet - i reckon it's cos I'm boring mummy who feeds and changes her and daddy does all the fun stuff with her hahha
Had major MIL issues today, its been sooo yuck. I was trying to burp violet, and she was like, do you mind if I take her to do that? I was like um no sorry I'd be more comfortable myself thank you.. And when I went to change her nappy she was like I'll do that, and I was like no that's cool I'll do it, she was like, oh but I want to, and I was like sorry I'd rather do it thanks!! And she keeps taking her from me and holding her and saying things like "oh you love your nana don't you" and poor violet was hungry and I said I'd better take her back to feed her and she goes no no she's just got gas, and I was like nooo she's hungry, and I took her and she was starving! And she purposely barged in on me breastfeeding even though I'd excused myself for privacy... Ugh.
Hugs Amanda. Sounds like she's a pain in the ass.
Im very lucky by the sounds of it. MiL is pretty good.
There's some irritating stuff there Amanda, and some stuff you're probably going to have to just let go - pick your battles. The wanting to cuddle her and saying you love your nana - normal. My MIL and FIL do it, most family members do it. The barging in, second guessing and being overbearing - I think you need to sit down over a coffee with her and calmly but assertively discuss it with her. Let her know that you are the mum, you understand she wants to be involved etc but that she needs to step back and let you figure things out for yourself. Let her know if you want advice or help you'll ask for it, but right now it's your first time being a mum and while she may know some good tips etc, she's not always going to be around so you need to learn to do for yourself first. Kind of that whole "yes I know you're trying to help and I appreciate it, but I want to do it myself first" thing. Make sure you do offer plenty of opportunities for your MIL to be involved and to spend time with Violet (even if you don't really want to) and chances are she'll start to settle down a bit - sounds like she's still finding her feet in this MIL/Nana business too.
I guess because I see it from the other side with my mum - my step-brother's wife does things quite differently to mum and a lot of it mum doesn't agree with, my mum is trying so hard not to be *that* kind of MIL, biting her tongue even when she sees SIL doing things that's going to make things harder for herself in the long run (stuff like giving in to tantrums etc) and not interfering unless asked. I think they've finally sort of come to the agreement that when Nanny has the kids Nanny gets to do it her way and the kids have adjusted to it fine - they know that Nanny has different rules/boundaries to mummy and daddy.

My mum is here atm and has a couple of times has said *I would do it this way* or *back when you kids were babies we did it this way* blah blah, I just told her outright, these are my kids mum and I am more than capable of taking care of them! MY WAY!! ... but that's my mum lol
I don't have a MIL or a FIL as they both died 2 years ago within a cpl of months of each other... so can't really relate to the MIL complaints! sorry!
Agh, Zoe has her immunisations tomorrow :( always a stressful time! and it NEVER gets easier as they get older :(

Dan and Nikky your bubs are so cute! Lilly is still really unsettled, dont know why maybe it is just her, she always wants my breast it seems for comfort, and refuses dummy. She Wont settle for me becuase she wants to suck to sleep and I'm trying to stop it because it is affecting her feeding, as everytime she gets on she thinks it's sleepy time and goes to sleep.
Not sure what else I can do? Using swing to get her to sleep and husband when he is here but when he is not she really resists settling, to the point wher I'll get her to sleep she will be asleep and then realise its the dummy not me and wake up screaming.
She isn't hungry becuase we are comping.
She seems to really love the feel of sucking on skin as she will suck on my hands readily, and she is trying to suck on hers and figure out sucking on her thumb. I just tried then to give breast thinking she was hungry but she wasnt and I popped her off becuase she started to go to sleep, and she just sat there grinning at me like she beat me :(, I'm thinking of not offering the breast even at feeds and just pumping to try and loose the association with sleep becuase she isn't doing much else but sleeping when she is on there.

Amanda I can see where your coming from with your MIL. Was she a nasty piece prior to having Violet?? Only ask because my MIL tended to try to take over especially with DS1 when she was around and thought all the times she was nasty was now extinct because I had now had her grand child. It's a huge adjustment period (once again). Try to take it with a grain of salt, really not worth the stress considering I'm sure you won't have to deal with it that often.
Funnily enough when Abby was about 10 days I had a friend tell me Abby had wind instead of being hungry, I thought silently "I know what my baby needs" and strangely Abby never settles at there places, she's really placid except there...weird!
Lolpigs DS2 was like how you explain Lily except he wouldn't take a dummy full stop. She will get better at sucking and remember any sucking is stimulation to produce more milk. From memory I saw improvement around the 4 month mark and this newborn/ baby gig doesn't last forever.

Just got back from Zoe's immunisations :( ahhh always rough on the mumma!
She has done nothing but smile and laugh today! well, up unto the injections! but she only squealed for about 30 seconds and then was fine and fell asleep! But now she is back to laughing and trying out new sounds and smiling! all the while rocking in her swing :)
Heheheh, my clever little munchkin has worked out how to grab hold of his toys :) Can't do it reliably yet, but he's done it a few times and thrown his toy across his body to his other side etc. He thinks it's a great game as he had the hugest grin and was chuckling away - soooo cute :heartbeat:
Levi has discovered he has hands when he waives them in front if his face lol.
We have also been having lovely chats including smiles, gurgling and tongue poking.
I've been having trouble with him on my right boob, he gets halfway through then starts to freak out. Worked out I have slow flow on that side. So plan is to feed him in that side and finish him off on the left. Until it I see the dr next week.
Slow flow is a pain Amumma hope you can get it fixed up soon.

Lilly had one big sleep today and then had a poop issues most of today which meant only cat naps after that. Hubby ss trying to settle her now as she do sent like to settle for me holding out for boob. Least that is what I think. We are also having an issue where she is determined to suck on her hand and thumb but hasn't quite learnt how to do it so depends lots of time doing that in bed then gets angry and frustrated when she can't self settle and gets upset at the dummy and won't take it.
I never thought I would be happy for her to hurry up and learn to suck her thumb!! I think our sleep issues will hopefully resolve.
Edit: Ok so now she is flat out refusing to sleep in her bassinette. She will settle and relax on our bed, but no where else. I've tried as a last resort putting her in her cot, and putting the shirt I was wearing in with her to try and keep her settled. She either has decided her bassinette is not for her, or is suffering seperation anxiety, but I didn't think they start that this early?
Im not sure what age they start SA. Hope you can sort it out. Can you put something on the dummy to encourage her to take it.
Lolpigs I reckon they do cos all they understand is that they want to be close to mummy. Mummy is the one that feeds and provides most of the caring and soothing in the early days.
I've been naughty for the last few nights. When Abby has her early morning feed around 3ish I've been popping her back in bed with me.. I don't have to settle her at all she just snuggles in and falls asleep with me.
I've also been finding she hasn't been staying asleep in her bassinet during the day, night is ok though.
Same thing here. It is frustrating when they won't settle but it's unfortunately part of newborn territory. They usually sort themselves out at 3-4 months old. Jessica needs help to fall asleep then wakes 15 mins later. I resettle her then the same thing happens again. It's not always like that tonight she slept for am hour. Now I've been dealing with her since 7:30pm and it's 12:30am. It's hard to not see it being like this forever as it's so full on but I've heard so many stories including my GP who had it so bad she said she cried for 4 mths. Every baby is different, some more challenging than others and I have a theory that girls are more difficult babies!! It's all I've been hearing about!
Don't give up on the bassinet it prob doesn't have anything to do with it, it's just her not wanting to sleep!

She slept in there from 9:45pm - 1am then again till 4:45am she seems to like the room? She is also refusing to be wrapped now because she is obsessed with her hands :lol: If I wrap her she just fights the wrap so better not to. She seems so very independant sometimes to the point of stubbornness.. great!
Haha Jan my mum says I was an angelcake when I was born so some girls are easy going! :lol:
I am just worried she isnt getting enough sleep and is getting over tured because her days are still very hit and miss. The swing seems the best way to get her to sleep during the day.

Dan I would love too as she falls asleep really fast in our bed but am frightened of rolling on her or something happening to her. Also, that can be a hard habit to break cant it?
Also wew for getting 120ml each time I pump every 3-4 hours :) We are transitioning to the goat formula as well to fingers crossed that helps her with her belly symptoms as they bother her too. The NAN HA is causing constipation and wind at the very least and she has been refusing it on taste too.

Zoe has been sleeping in bed with me since she was born :)
We did it with Harriett and it just works for us. We all get great sleep and Zoe settles really easily!
Speaking of Zoe, she just slept from 10m thru to 6.30!! w00t

Been stupid-hot here too, Alex is sleeping in just a nappy, no sheets or blankets or anything until early morning where I might pop a light sheet over him if it's gotten cool enough.
We only co-sleep after his 6am feed on weekends, which is snuggle time till daddy wakes up - but he does sleep right next to my side of the bed in his cradle normally. I'm thinking about getting the cot set up in his room for daytime sleeps as it's a bit cooler down that end of the house during the day.
What sort of bassinet is it? Is it possible she's getting a bit big for it and prefers the extra space of the cot?
Yeah thats what I'm thinking Ck, It is a Bassinette from Sleepy spaces, and she is almost the same length as it now. I think perhaps she dosent like the closed in feeling now from teh bassinette? As she settled all night in her Cot now waking about every 2.5 to 3 hours. She looks so tiny in it however! :lol:
I'm meant to be getting a sleep in as I've just fed Levi and hubby has taken him for a while but I'm laying here listening to hubby and Levi having a chat, to cute.
Levi has never had his arms/hands wrapped, he hates it. My brother could never be wrapped, mum said he prefered to starfish lol.
My sister in law puts liquid cooking gliserine (sp) on dummies to encourage her boys to take them. Only problem is she uses it all the time, excessivly. You only need a dash and do it a few times then every second, then third etc. You will also need to find the shape she prefers. Levi loves the Tommy tippy cherry ones (round heads). My friends girl would only take the Nuk orthopedic ones (slanted).
It's meant to be 30 today and climbing all week until it hits the 40s. Levi's going to hate it.
They do look tiny in their cots at first - I didn't use a bassinet or cradle for DD, she went straight into the cot from day 1, and my goodness she was teeny! Especially considering she was a fair bit smaller than Alex at birth and didn't grow nearly as quick to begin with. I nearly fell over backwards when one of BIL's rellies tried to guess his age at about 4 or 5 months!
Alex never liked being wrapped, always wanted his hands free. The midwives would come in and wrap him, he'd complain and wriggle till either we freed his hands or he escaped. I tried wrapping him once or twice once we got home, but pretty soon gave it up for a bad joke. And yes, he's a starfish sleeper. A very wriggly starfish at times as well. I'd say if she sleeps without it, don't bother - one less step to worry about :)
I wrap Levi's legs and body, otherwise he kicks his blankets off too. I have brought some sleeping bags to try him in. I put him in it last night but he wasnt settled so I wrapped him again. I'll try putting him in them for day sleeps first.
I don't wrap Abby either, I just dress her in long onsies of a night or dress accordingly. I find that easy here cos we got aircons going 24/7 hear as the temp outside is averaging around 45 most days. We do venture outside late arvo to take a dip in the pool though.
Lolpigs how much are you topping up after feeding Lilly 120mls?
At the moment every second feed is Formula rather than topping up. Easier on her, and saves all the bottles. When she has a BM feed she takes it all and then she is pretty much full. She has her piggie times if she sleeps through a feed where she will take 190ml, but generally only takes 110-130ml.
So for her age she is taking about 900ml a day, so half that approx is BM. Doing well I think. She just did a dirty nappy and the Goat's milk must be helping because there was straining, but not screaming no pain no nothing! Fingers crossed the imrpvoement keeps happening. We are up to 2 scoops of the new formula a feed now.
Also starting on the Tommee Tippiee bottles as she seems to want a faster flow than the pigeon is allowing her. She seemed to cope well with it last feed and had less gas so we shall see how we go.
We are trying today day sleeps in swing and night sleeps in Cot. Also doing a play on the mat after each feed, so far seems to be working. Fingers Crossed!
