Babies Born ~ November 1st -15th 2011 #2

CK, luckily the MIL has gone now, so i didnt end up having a discussion with her, but when she is down next / calls i think ill get DH and i do maybe have a casual chat to just say that I would prefer to try things my own way etc and that we will ask for her advice if / when we would like it.. i happy for her to offer advice, its just the condescending way she does it, and the way she puts down what i am doing as though im not a good mum. Im also happy for her to cuddle Violet etc, but theres a time and a place - she kept taking her from me when she was fast asleep in my arms etc, and not asking if she could, she just came and did it.. it drove me mad!!!

Danni, yes she was defintely a piece of work before Violet too! The first time she met me she made some comment about me being a bit of a princess which i am NOT and she has always made comments about me not looking after DH properly etc cos im vegetarian and she doesnt think thats healthy etc etc.. she puts me down cos i swear she doesnt like no longer being the main woman in her sons life.. i think there are a few MILS out there that think that way and unfortunately act upon it to make us feel yuck!!! So interesting about Abby not settling at those people's place who tried to tell you she had gas and wasnt hungry...er, hello, how would they know, shes your baby not theirs! Ohh people and their opinions hey!!

AM, i have slow flow issues sometimes towards the end of a feed and it sends VIolet into a bit of a frustrated panicky state, she gets real upset, thrashes around, scratches me etc, i always feel terrible... i googled it and your meant to be able to do things to make it faster like massage that side while they drink but it never helped for me! The only thing i can think of is when it gets to that point, to take them off, express the rest and feed it to them, but i havent tried that yet..

Lolpigs, is the shirt in the bassinet still working to help settle bubs? I might try that cos its hardto get Violet to settle in her bassinet too!

Nikky, ummmmm Zoe sounds like she sleeps like a champ!!!! Im lucky if Violet will sleep 3 hours at a time! Needless to say, im rather tired...!

Yes seems to make her more settled in the cot to be able to smell me. She hates the bassinette now though so we aren't trying it again.

Sorry girls for my short posts been on my iPhone only as the main computer is broken at the moment. Bad timing being Xmas and all trying to get it fixed.

Wow lolpigs she's taking heaps. It's vary rare Abby will finish the full 150mls made up for her and the amount she slops out the side is astronomical. Abby copes better with a slow flow I think, I have her on the tommee tippee bottles with a number 1 teat but so much milk still spews out the side of her mouth.
That's great she isn't crying in pain when doing a poop now, Nan I found did that to DS2 as well.

Ok so I still got milk to the point it will quirt out, so I just gave Abby a breastfeed and gave her a top up afterwards and she only took about 80-90mls of the formula. I don't want to confuse her at all, what to do??

I know such a guts! :) Try the pigeon bottles if you can Dan they have been good for DD if she likes slow flow. I have one I just ordered and don't need if you want to buy it to try them out.

You could do what I do and pump all the feeds and give via bottle to stop confusion?

:hug: Sometimes when I'm all alone and I need to go to the bathroom, I put DD down somewhere safe and just go. I am never long but sometimes she just has to wait.. awful arent I? ;S

Aww Jan just want to off a hug! It's so hard when you got a reflux, clingy baby. I find the Ergo good and I noticed yesterday while she was in it that she fits so much better now and even does this thing where she pokes her head up and looks about - so funny to look at she reminds me of a meekat LOL.

Heheh, Alex does that in his ergo too :) The ergo is very comfy to wear, I managed several full day christmas shopping trips with the ergo, the only catch is the newborn insert is quite hot - maybe look at the manduca? They spread the weight on the hips rather than your shoulders so doesn't get as tiring.

Spoke with the ABA today and they gave me some good advice. They want me to get Abby checked to make sure there is no tongue etc. She also reckon Fenugreek is worth having as well so I'll have toying that one down. Still got Motillium in the house so I'm popping some of them and I'm booked into the docs next Tuesday for my 6 week checkup so I can go through some stuff with them then. Also ordered a baby and toddler recipe book, been looking for one for ages.

Busy day today, went to ikea spent too much money and then put Alex's cot together so he can start having daysleeps in his own room because it's cooler. And having a petty little woe is me moment because my period is back. Already. Which would maybe explain why Alex has been a little fussy while feeding lately, as I've heard it changes the taste a bit.

CK ahhh that is crapola... So much for forgetting about periods while breastfeeding. Guess I was lucky with DS2 I managed to evade AF for 12 months.

Hope mine stay away... getting mini pill tomorrow so I can space these Bubs out!

Any suggestions for transitioining DD from the swing to cot for day sleeps? 2nd night in a row she seems happy to sleep there with my shirt

Mmmm, same thing happened with DD - period came back barely 4 weeks after I stopped bleeding from her birth. Be careful with the mini-pill though, you have to take it at exactly the same time every day or it's not effective. Which can be a little difficult at times when bub suddenly decides they want to vary their daily routines wildly.

As to transitioning the day sleeps, I'd just try putting her down in the cot and see how she goes. She might just settle there of her own accord.

So right now, it's 1.30am and Alex is fast asleep, but I'm wide awake sitting in the loungeroom with a cloth under one boob because I'm leaking. And I'm wishing he'd wake up so I can feed him and go back to bed. Weird huh?

I am also using condoms so fingers crossed. Lol ck you poor thing. Trying to settle Bubs in the cot now, but getting quiet resistance lol but I am slowly winning ;)

Zoe had a SHOCKING evening last night!

Poor thing was puking and crying for about an hr and half! :( my top was SOAKED through!

She finally settled down, drunk 180mls of milk, and then I took her to bed around 10.30 where she kicked and gurgled and was all things cute! for about 10 minutes! then she slept right thru until 6.30 this morning! yehawwwwww good girl xx

I have woken up with a stupid sore, swollen, burning throat :| stupid Melbourne weather...last few weeks we have had the aircon on, only to have to put the heater on the next morning! I mean, SERIOUSLY! how can Melbourne have such ridiculous weather?!?!?!?

Our contraceptive atm is having my mother stay with us for 4 weeks! Trust me, there is no *doing the nasty* with her in the house! this house is toooooooooo small.... mwahahahah

I got to sleep ok finally. Levi didn't wake up until 4am, that was nice of him lol.

I have heard you can get a period after your body goes back to normal then nothing again until you stop BFing. I have no pads left in the house so I've added them to the shopping list lol.

We haven't DTD yet. Fooled around though. I'm a little worried, no idea why, it's almost like doing it again for the first time. We will be using condoms but I'll have to ask what types of hormones are in the depo and Merina (sp).

As for being sick, we aren't having much luck here either. Brother in law has a man cold and hasn't been at work much. I have a sore throat and keep coughing up yuk but no other symptoms. I asked a midwife friend about having a cold and BF babies get anti-bodies through milk so hopefully Levi won't get it. I need it gone by next week so I can getting my needles :(

I think the first time is hardest - I made sure we went slow and had some extra lubricant as we were using condoms because the depo wouldn't have kicked in yet. Plus I was a bit apprehensive because of the tearing/stitches, not being sure what the new "normal" would be like and whether it'd be the same as before. But needn't have worried too much, it was fine.

And yes Nikky, Melbourne does have ridiculous weather. Which is why I don't live there :p Hope everyone is better soon, you and yours too AM!

Back from Chemist, bubs is still happily sitting in her swing so eating lunch before that changes LOL got the mini pill, chemist said I have a 3 hour window in which to take it but try to take it at the same time every day. I already pop pills for the milk so i'll just take it with one of them. Takes 2 weeks to take effect though.

Bubs did her morning sleep in the Cot which was good, her mid morning nap I just popped her into the swing becuase she wanted to go to sleep 30mins after waking from that so that is fine. She didnt sleep for as long in the swing this time, so perhaps she is starting to prefer her cot
? I think swing for naps, cot for big sleeps.

After her next feed going to try for the cot again.

Jan, i dont know how you do it, it must be heaps hard just taking a shower, going to the bathroom etc.. could you somehow put her in the swing propped up a bit more? or would that not really be safe? (guess it depends on the shape of the swing etc) other than that im not sure, it must be so difficult...!

CK, ohhh man, how annoying about AF... i didnt realise it could be so soon either! Heaps not keen for AFs return.. i hope she stays well away. Do you find since having babies that there is less cramping / period pain? Or relatively the same as before?

As for DTD, im STILL sore from the stitches - not on the surface as such, but the deeper tissues i think are still a bit painful so thats enough of a contraceptive for me! Ugh! Im going to feel so self conscious of my tummy whenever we start doing that again anyway that even just that in iteslf will put me off.. :s poor DH!

Lolpigs, for the daytime naps, no idea unfotunately... Violet is quite content NOT to sleep during the day haha. If she does, its like, 10 mins at a time and then shes awake again! With the mini pill, you could try setting an alarm in your mobile to go off at the same time every day? I used to do that if i went on holidays etc cos id be likely to forget the pill if my routine was different!

Danni, i use the Fenugreek seeds :) how ddi the ABA suggest to use them? I boil a tspn of them and have as a tea (i but a peppermint teabag in too though cos its not the nicest flavour)

Amanda she didn't really say how to take but i'veheard you can get hold of tablets too. Apparently you need to smell like maple syrup for it to work....ewwww!

We've DTD and it was fine not sore at all. DH still has sore swollen testies so not alot of action in the house. We were down the shops the other day when DS2 exclaimed Daddy has sore nuts to some random person LOL .... Embarrassing much!?

Abby slept till 6am this morning :)

Pop onto a website called nursing angel, they have both blessed thistle and fennugreek with fast shipping and they are made from teh right stuff, the ones from teh chemist I found dont have the right stuff in them

Thanks for that site I'll take a look. The ABA lady recommended taking them and even said that COWS can take it with huge benefits, she read a passage to me from a book called making more milk that documents that your milk can double.

Sigh lunch time sleep was a bust wouldnt settle in cot, just put her in the swing after an hour of trying and within 10mins sleep.

Since DD was born my period was more regular but pretty much the same. This time I think it was just a bit of breakthrough bleeding from the depo injection instead of a full period as it's gone already. Yay!

Man taking DH with me into a baby shop is dangerous! We went in to get a mesh sling to take to the pools and for general use, walked out with that, some sheets for the cot, a gro-egg room thermometer (the red sad face is just telling me something I already knew - it's stupid hot) and some clothes in the next size up because he's fast growing out of all his little baby clothes. Admittedly all except the egg thing was stuff we needed anyway, but still...

Ive got post partum bleed (light period) today :( If its before 9 weeks its called a post partum bleed (which I didnt know but a Midwife friend informed me lol). Hopefully its the only one.

Talked to hubby about contraception, we are going to be sticking with condoms. I go loopy on the pill (messes with my hormones) and we arent rabbits (at it all the time) so he agreed its best for me not to take anything. Im happy but nervous about the decision, now to get the courage lol.

I think I've been Oing cos I got heaps of EWCM. DH just withdrew the other day so hoping I'm alright.
He gets his swimmers tested at 6 weeks post operation.

Amanda I didn't get cramps as much after having DS1.

Lolpigs babies can be funny little things sometimes and so in tune.

All Abby has done today is feed, sleep and then wake for maybe an hour or so before her next feed for a play. We've done playmat time, layed her on my bed and let her watch me fold washing up - surprisingly I got lots of smiles her watching me do this, then we've done swim time this arvo too. She self settled this morning to - I've never had a child do this. Such a happy lil vegemite :)
She's also got a rash on her cheeks and chin, it's really rough to touch too. I've been putting a little of the Gaia moisturizer on it and bought some of the Gaia soothing lotion too but hasn't improved at all any ideas what is ok to put on it until I get it checked out on Tuesday??

Zoe has had this as well Danni! Could be milk pimples caused by hormones or Heat rash :)

Could just be the 6 week rash maybe? Alex had a red bumpy rash around his neck and especially under his chins for about a week or two, didn't put anything on it and it's cleared up by itself. Looks horrible but usually nothing to worry about, just make sure to wash under the folds regularly and try to make sure they're dried properly.

Hmm interesting, hope my cramps are not as bad once I get AF back- I get terrible cramps normally!

Violet has a rash on her chest too!! Weird! It's tiny red spots but they're not bumpy..

I hoping so girls it's only a hormonal thing or heat rash. Someone mentioned Eczema on FB and I freaked out once I googled it for the info. Arghhh I tell people off for dr googling and I done it myself.

Amanda I always found with AF cramps the secret was to pop the pain killers at the first sign of cramping before they set in and I found this especially true this time round with the afterbirth pains - I had strong after pains for at least a week and I was popping panadol 6 hrly around the clock.

ive got an annoying itchy rash on my face / neck.. violet has fungal nappy rash (still trying to get rid of it) and SIL said it could be a rash ive caught from her nappy rash?! sounded unlikely to me and stupid dr google (hehe danni i do it all the time) didnt really give me an answer! guess ill checkwith GP friday if its still around!

oh i was wondering, is anyone else's bubs heads still crooked? violet's came out crooked... and its still crooked! ill tell the dr next friday but its not really improving! She also refuses to have her head to the left hand side when sleeping.. she hates it. have tried to turn it that way and she either wont let you, or turns it straight back!

Amanda, we are dealing with a flat head here. Levi's head is flat on the left.

We tilt his shoulders so he has to lay on his right side, we prop his shoulder up on the change table so his head sits on the right more. The reading we did said that more tummy time and sitting up (more for older kids) helps because there is no pressure on the head. We hold him on our left so the right side of the head is the one getting pressure. Babies head plates dont stop fussing until they are 18 months old so we arent going to see a pediatrician yet. If they get to 12 months and there is no change they give them a helmet to help shape the head. Levi's is from being vacuumed out, was suctioned on the right side, so laid on the left side because of the bruse. We never noticed until it was very obvious. We have been making these changes for a week and I believe I can see a difference already, the slant isnt as sharp (if that makes sense).

AM probably has the best advice, I'm no help in that department as my babies have never suffered with a flat heads.

Put some sudocream on Abby and her face is alot better today.
