Christmas should be interesting here. I'm driving to mum's in Hervey Bay (about 3 1/2 - 4 hours away) with just the 2 kids. Leaving Christmas morning so DH can spend a couple of hours with them before he has to go to work :(

Miss K is doing well - atm she is cluster feeding a bit and going every 2 hours but I figure it is a growth spurt/wonder week thing. I don't mind if it is during the day but the nights are difficult when I have to be up early for Miss R's various activities. Looking forward to Xmas as DH is home and will be able to help out there. Next weigh in is 2nd Jan, so I'll know for sure all is ok with Miss K & feeding etc...
schonell: That is a massive drive but I hope you have a lovely Christmas with your mum and kids. Pity that your DH is working on Christmas Day :-(
Cassius: I hope things are better for you now and you don't have anymore bleeds.

Rhi - so glad to hear miss k is going so well, nights are tough though esp when you have others to get up for and to take places. How is miss k with all the travel, does she go with the flow?
Schonell - hope the drive goes well, maybe a few stops on the way. Is ds a good help? I find my eldest ds is helpful if bub is crying on our long trips. Sorry you can't be spending much time with dh on Christmas day.

E is doing great, she just goes with the flow, seems to sleep a lot, so not used to a bub who sleeps, both ds's barely slept at all at this stage. She's growing so big already, but still probably smaller than most of you girls bubs at birth.
How lovely that you have a sleeper Klee! I'm only mildly jealous :D
RCC - cluster feeding is hard work. Great for baby though. We do it from 6 til about 8, seems to help with night sleeping.
We tick over one month tomorrow! Yayyyy! Which means were due a wonder week, but I had an awesome day today with both. S is doing 4.5 hour stretches at night with the odd 5 hour thrown in. Pretty happy with that. Poos are weekly, usually on the weekend, which is good, as DH is home - it often requires an extra pair of hands! We have been doing a lot of baby wearing, she loves a back carry, and so do I!
I've had to get out the 00 pyjamas! So much growing happening here!

Audax: 00! How cool is that?! These bub as are chubbing nicely! Gosh I just sounded like the wicked witch from Hansel and Gretel lol.
Klee: I am secretly happy that dd3 is a better sleeper than dd2...only now am I realising how hard dd2 was at times!
Indada: I feel for you babe. I too have an infection from retained product. That is what caused the pph. Totally sucks how it interferes with this special time :(

I am so waiting for this coming wonder week. i *think* it might be on its way as DD has been unsettled a fair bit today, and for the last 2ish weeks has been quite predictable.
Audax: what carrier do you do the back carry in?
AFM: I am on the AB treadmill :( like Indad i had an infection due to retained product. it is what caused the PPH. overall i have now lost about 1000mls (birth included) so am feeling really really stupid tired. the hospital are reluctant to do the D&C as they believe it will *eventually* pass. in the meantime i am shockingly tired and trying to keep up the probiotics. have now done some acupuncture and am on some herbs from the naturopath. soooo tired.

So sorry I've been MIA - trying to finalise Xmas presents, get them posted to QLD for family etc... Just got to shop for food and cook for Xmas day lunch (we all bring things for lunch).
Klee - Miss K does ok with all the travelling. I tend to time the feeds either before or after we have to go out so for the most part she is settled. Sometimes we are on our way back from being out and she cranks up but that is minimal.
So glad to hear E is doing so well!
Audax - OO already! Awesome to hear your little one is doing so well & sleeping well too - makes it so much easier! Miss K is pushing OOO - more so in the torso (she has a skinny bottom and short legs) but I think I'll be able to get a few more wears of things in 000 yet. I have lots of awesome 00 clothes though - most presents were in this size, which is good b/c Miss R was a winter baby and alot smaller so I don't have alot of summer clothes in 00.
Cassius - Man you have had such a difficult time with your PPH & infection. So sorry that this has put a sour note on your beautiful homebirth. I hope your body can pass the retained product - I know after one of my m/c it took quite sometime to pass naturally and they really didn't want to do the d&c if they could avoid it. It was a hard slog but I am glad I didn't go in for surgery in the end. ((hugs))
We live SE Suburbs but I am happy to travel anywhere to meet. I have easy access to the Monash and Eastlink. When you are feeling much better, we will definately catch up.

AFM - All well here. Miss K is doing fairly well. Had a good stretch of sleep last night - 4.5hrs and then 5 hours so I can't complain but I think she'll be feeding more often today to make up for it! Most nights she is up at midnight, 3am then 6/7am - which I can handle. Can't believe how fast time is going, particularly with Xmas around the corner!
Hello! Hectic Christmas prep here too! I'm sewing a Scarface Claw costume for DD, ambitious much? :rolleyes: fortunately small ones are cooperating.
Cass - I use my half buckle or woven wrap for back carries. She's not a mad lover of baby wearing like my DD1 was, but she sleeps, and that's the important bit!
RCC - awesome sleepings! we got heaps of 00 presents too! We have serious overflow issues with 00s. We got lots for DD1 as well, but the Melbourne rellies gave us all summer stuff and by the time she was big enough for them, it was winter. So a lot was unworn. DD2 now has 5 Christmas outfits. We got everyone's hand me downs.
We are having one crappy day in 3. But the crappy days are always followed by awesome night sleeps, which I can handle. Due to wake up any tick - soooo much more predictable than her sister!
Cass - I wish this time was easier for you. I totally empathise - I lost 800mL during the birth and estimated another 300-400mL these past few weeks, amazingly my blood work is not concerning them enough to warrant a transfusion although all the advice I have given leads me to believe I will feel so much better with one. I'm finding resting hard. Well, the resting is easy but I always feel guilty and there's always something that needs doing, but I always bleed after I do something that requires me to stand for more than a few minutes and it's really wearing thin. Still bright red and needing a pad constantly at 4 weeks PP and I'm so over it. But Christmas is not conducent with resting. How is your DD going with the ABs? DD2 is so cranky and has such a sore tummy.
RCC - Little miss is wearing 0000 well now and just fitting into 000, such a little chicken! Your DD seems to have a similar routine to mine with night wakings, although lately she's been sleeping longer, to 1am, and then again to 4am, wanting to be up and at 'em after that feed. I guess because it's so hot here, and 4am is a nice time temperature-wise. But it's nice to have a little bit of time with her before DD1 wakes up because I then have to turn into a personal security guard - DD1 loves DD2 a whole bunch, but the affection is a little OTT hahaha
Audax - Awww! 00!! Big girl! I have giggle withhh weekly poo's - we've never had that here with either girl - DD2 is still going multiple times a day, although that might be the ABs. It gives her so much grief too, poor chicken!
AFM, had Christmas lunch with my family today. It was at our place. Ran around like a headless chook all day and am now bleeding and cramping again. Argh! Also forgot I am not allowed to lift anything heavier than DD2. On the plus side, my labour and birth photos are almost done, and my tear is healing ok now and UTI is gone so it's just the uterine infection we have to clear up now. I think it's getting a little better, I just need to clear everything out so that I can start healing instead of causing fresh bleeding everytime I do something that involves any kinf of stomach-muscle activity. Desperately trying to avoid a hospital stay, but part of me would embrace enforced rest, since it's impossible at home. And there's my poor-me post. lol, sorry!
Indad - Holy crap, I am sorry you are still losing blood and are so unwell still. I hope that when Xmas is out of the way you can rest properly. I thought your partner was on leave now?
Little Miss sounds like she is doing very well, apart from the antibiotics upsetting her tummy :-( I don't know of anything you can give to settle that - perhaps you can take a probiotic and it will flow onto her through bf??
I've been keeping an eye on the weather up your way - my IL's live in Kuluin and my SIL is in Brisbane. They have been posting pics of the kids swimming etc... to keep cool.
We've had a couple of hot days - yesterday was 39 but it wasn't really sunny - quite overcast but stinking hot. We camped at my mums for a bit as she has refrigerated cooling (we only have evaporative).
Audax - LOL @ all the clothes!
I just saw what my mum has purchased for Miss K and I know that my sister had purchased some too! It's all good though given this weather is heating up, we'll be using it no worries. Plus it is mainly everyday clothing such as little t-shirts, leggings etc...
I wish I could sew! I see all these great things I want to make but have no clue! I should enrol in lessons. I'd ask my grandmother but given she is 85, I don't think that is very fair!
AFM - Well I did some Xmas baking yesterday and will be doing some more today.
Need to clean my house as it's been nearly 2 weeks and it's pretty gross :-/
DD#1 is off to my sisters house for a few hrs, thank goodness as she is driving me a little nuts atm.
Saw my OBS on Wednesday, all well with my scar and we went over my labour - nothing I didn't know already though.
Well, I probably won't be on for a few days as DH is taking some time off between Xmas & New Years. I hope everyone enjoys their Xmas with their families, particularly with the new additions. Take care x

I *think* our christmas preps are all pretty much done...except DH who is doing his shopping tonight...nothing like last minute dude :rolleyes:
Indad: urgh, the bright red bleeding and cramping is awful! i have found it quite demoralising :( I went to the naturopath who has stocked me up on baby-biotics (probiotics for young infants...powder form...not the inner health one, but similar...just for babies ITMS), and she also gave me another infant drop for the AB effects which has been AMAZING. it's called "iberogast". i was hesitant to use anything but gave it a go and wowsers, it was bliss for her! i gave it to her once and it seemed to last her a good three days. she is due for her second lot around now.
I dont get a real great deal of rest, like you just running around after kids and getting house in some order...and i have had to drop standards big time lol.
also still needing constant maternity pads too...7 weeks in...boo hoo!
RCC: cool! we'll have to catch up after the crazy christmas stuff! yay! and i am so with you on wanting to learn how to sew...i am envious of my sewing friends and all their cool clothes :)

we also seem to have a crappy day once a week that goes for a day and half. but i cant tell if that is her or the crap medication ruining her guts.
AFM: well, it seems that the bleeding is slowing :dance: i took some homeopathics that my homeopath in italy had sent over (after DH called her and spoke to her about what happened etc) and i did (and TMI ahead) pass some different looking tissue the following day. so hopefully that was the last of the placenta (that is what we suspect it was). bright red stuff is now minimal but still have clots :( (but the scan showed quite a few of those that had to come down, so no surprises there at least).
DD3 is just gorgeous though! we are getting lots of old man laughs and she has taken to gurgling out 'oohhhhaaa' when you go in to pick her up hehehehe, sooo cute!!
oh and my double pram FINALLY arrived. but the stupid company i ordered from (it has been a LONG saga of them lying about availability and when it would arrive at my place...instead of 1-3 weeks it took 6 weeks etc) has sent one of the fabric sets for a DIFFERENT pram :wall: i am so cross it aint funny.
Hi all!! Happy New Year!! How is everyone going?? Just a quick question, wondering how much to wrap the baby up? I've only had winter babies so I'm used to them being wrapped up really snug. What's the best rule of thumb for summer babies??
I am like you and have only had cool weather babies before lol. I currently have DD3 in a singlet and nappy and a light muslin cotton wrap (she likes to be wrapped...which is a bummer in this heat). her wrap is really long so i dont bother tucking her legs up as it feels like she might be cooler that way.

We are all fairly good. DD3 is just chubbing up nicely :) cannot believe how fast it is all flying by! she will be 9 weeks old this sunday...wow.
i am still crook though, so pretty bummed about it all. the tiny bit of placenta that was retained has now re-attached and has become stronger and has more vascularity and flow (so in effect, getting bigger and stronger). i laughed with DH that i am basically still 'a little bit pregnant' :lol:. my IM and my GP both agree that i now need a D&C as i have not responded to the conservative treatments (ABs) and i have even taken the acupuncture and naturopath route to help things along, but with the bit of placenta alive and well and very much attached there really is not any hope of it coming away on its own. unfortunately the public hospital is strapped and prefers to hold off for as long as possible, but i feel that i have reached that point as i now have another infection and am back on two lots of ABs. so in the next few days i will head in and beg for the D&C with both my GPs letter of recommendation and the one from the two sonographers (yep, even saw two different sonographers for second opinions lol). hopefully they will listen, otherwise it will be an out of pocket private OB operation...
nel - can't answer that for you unfortunately, I had a winter bub last time as well, but DD2 isn't interested in being wrapped. She is exactly like her big sister; I'm sure both of them could wriggle out of a straightjacket!!!
:( :( That sucks amazingly C. I hope you can get this done through the public system as soon as possible. Surely it'd be better to get it done sooner rather than later when it could become an emergency and there may be even more issue that they're going to have to deal with?!?!?! Are you able to get some rest hun? 9 weeks... awww! So big! But you must be so drained as well :(
By the way, I never ever knew the placenta could reattach!!!! I have a scan on Tuesday afternoon to check up on things. Still bleeding. It slows and I get excited, and then I get a massive gush and it starts up again. I haven't passed anything, but like you, everyone is taking a hands-off wait-and-see approach. DD2 is 6 weeks on Monday, I'm over it (and slightly miffed... I thought vb was meant to be an easier recovery than c/s! :wall:), and no one is terribley concerned except me... and DP... and my mum who is freaking out a little and ringing every day making sure I am ok. She's coming back up to stay next week, yay!
DD2 is growing slowly but surely - 0000 won't last much longer and she doesn't swim in her 000 now. Haven't had her weighed in a while though... ooops. Getting smiles and coo's now, soooooooooooooooooooooo cute!!!! She has been sleeping quite well so far, we usually get 9pm-2/3am, and then another short sleep until 6/7am. Day sleeps are practically non-existant though. Short cat naps after a feed but nothing substantial, and don't we hear about it through the witching hour. :o
Indad: i had no idea that the little turd of the placenta could do that either lol. i swear it's like some freaky alien movie hahahaha.
sorry to hear that you are still getting gushes too :( sounds like there could be stuff still there? Hopefully all just clots and they have all come down :pray: After reading some journal articles it is good to wait before having a D&C as there is bigger risk of infection and not working in the first 2-4 weeks post partum...and a bigger risk of ashermans too. but yeah, like you, i have hit my limit. i need it gone. i have the constant fear of another PPH hanging over my head and the thought of raging infections just gets to me. I love my uterus, I dont want her being all sick.
I'm so happy to read your DDs sleep is very similar to my DDs! she rock and rolls until about 9pm and does the 2-3 thang and then a few more hours after that. then a wee play in bed and back down usually until about 9.30ish. her day sleeps tend to be all over the joint. but she generally does have some good stretches. DD2 on the other hand was an awesome cat napper during the day! never wanted to sleep and even as a newborn just did two 40 minute naps! but i didnt mind too much as she was such a happy awake baby and rarely grizzled so i could just pop in a sling or on the bouncer and she'd be happy as larry. whereas DD3 gets her grump on and refuses to talk to me hahaha.
I hope you get to give the old girl a good spring cleaning cass! And soon!
We just went away for three days, up near Indad's place (should have thrown some 000s out the window as we drove past!) and, while it was mostly enjoyable, we paid for it with sleeps and I am glad to be home.
Say-Say, as big sissah calls her, is doing awesome night sleeps, 8pm-3 or 4am, then through til 7:30 or so. Getting her down by 8 is a bit of a mission, though! Tonight we started at 6pm, which meant dinner at 5:30. Nursing home hour, we call it.
If we're home, she's back down in the day from about 10-2. Then again in the arvo for about an hour. And a catnap round dinner time, usually in the sling while I cook. I thought I'd love it, after having a chronically bad day sleeper, but I find it really restrictive! Lots of DD1's activities are in that big stretch, and I feel a bit torn between letting DD1 do her fun stuff and letting DD2 get her big sleep. I mostly choose sleep, because then I get my quality time with the bg girl, and sometimes even a synchronised nap!
All that said, being away was totally different. Completely overstimulated and wired, and didn't she let us know! We got home today and she just squirmed and spewed and fussed and kicked and screamed. And did a wee on the bed. Noice.

We have serious boob hours in the evenings from about 6pm. on a good night she is down by 8.30 for good, but last night :o...we were going until 10.30!!! that said, she then slept until 6am and only woke for a quick 2 minute boob until 8.30am....but still, wowsers, what a long couple of hours as she is sooo tired and grumpy, so not even happy to be awake and around of an evening ITMS.
If yours talks to mine about happiness. Such a grump today! Despite two good sleeps. I had a red wine on Sunday night, and I think I'm paying for it.
Any news on a curette, Cassius?
I don't know where you are nel, but here in Brissie we rock a singlet suit every day, and a thin muslin wrap if we wrap, which we don't, because SaySay is a tummy sleeper. Yeah, I'm a badass.
