Dory - Gosh reading about HB weaning herself made me sad for you at first then I realised how lucky both you and HB have been to have made a great BFing team for nearly a year! Every day is great for them so you have done so well and given her a fantastic start and some important immunity for life. What a great Mummy you are to stop eating all those foods - after I was free of my diet I went nuts and have been eating all and sundry with no probs. I can understand you feeling sad to leave those days behind (I will prob be devestated when that happens here!!) but try to look on the bright sides of not feeling like you HAVE to be around all the time (we have never even gone out to dinner without Pearl) and being able to fit into all your old clothes and bras (I know my bright sides are a bit lame!).
Bec - I was inspired by your earlier post and tried (again) with BLS here for lunch - no chance - P is a crap eater and if I just let her feed herself she would eat nothing! She threw around the strawberry I gave her, ditto with the pumpkin and peach and wouldn't even touch the fish cake things I made for her! Literally would not touch them! I gave up and resported to feeding her myself! Very impressed here that Isaac uses a spoon. I reckon her is prob getting a great diet - think of all the poor kids that live on crisps and coke and survive! Bummer David is not answering your questions - he always makes me sus that he is looking for a ticket to Oz - don't know why I am prob totally wrong. Great that he is watching his son online (does Isaac look like him?)
Pretz - have a great time OS and GL with AF - I was totally sure I was preggers this month - felt sick and twingey for two weeks - kept taking tests - BFN - then like clockwork AF showed up for the first time since Dec 2009! like Fuzzy it was really light - two days - we are also thinking about TTC #2 and I am not sure if I really want to get back on the testing all the time bus.
Fuzzy - what makes you think Chloe will be slow to walk? P was super slow to start bum shuffling and is yet to even pull herself up so I think we are in the same boat. Must be the biting season - P goes to occ care one morning a fortnight and came home with a big red circle on her cheek the other day!
You ladies are all making me feelguilty with themes etc planned for parties - we are going to Adel in a couple of weeks then to Qld for three weeks so P will be having a couple of parties but just standard morning teas with family and cake - no themes! I have been working at a couple of from home things since April but I am also heading back to my old job in Oct - just two days a week, one from home and one in the office (DH does not work Fridays) they are being really flexible about it all which is great but I don't think my contract will be renewed at the end of June next year (hopefully I will be preggers by then anyway. To answer your earlier question Dory I think Kirsten's Sam may be the next b'day (8/9) followed by P the next day - but I have a feeling I have missed someone on the 3rd??)

: forgot the birthdays!
fuzzy - I agree, I wish I could pause this stage, sooo cute. One of my sisters lives in Mt Magnet so we are having Isaacs birthday up there, my other sister lives in Rockingham so I think we'll go there for a couple of days then we will all head up to Magnet. My sisters have nine kids between them so it's going to be a bit crazy but fun. Ladybugs will be very cute for Chloes party
Chuckie - Isaac used to play with his food more than he ate it when we first started BLS, at around 7 months I think that was. He didn't eat much at all for a while, but he does now. He is just discovering gravity, and will drop hand fulls of his food onto the floor then peer over the side to look at it. I don't mind, he is still eating what he wants and all of his observations are good for him to learn by. Just messy but it doesn't take much to clean it up. He does eat with a spoon but I put the food on it for him then put it on the table in front of him. Sometimes he just likes biting on the spoon instead of eating what is on it but that's ok. I know what you mean about David maybe wanting a ticket to Aus, I have thought that too.. if he is anything like the majority of guys I met in Tanzania then it wouldn't surprise me. He did seem different though, paying for things for me, not hounding me with texts etc etc so I thought maybe he was one of the good ones. Time will tell I suppose. Oh and yes Isaac looks like him, but with much lighter skin.
Isaac was so funny tonight, after his bath I laid him on the floor to dress him and while I was folding his nappy he rolled over and crawled away (still naked), stopped and turned to look at me, laughed, crawled away and laughed again.. so I chased after him crawling around, both of us laughing hysterically crawling around the house.. not really winding down for bed like he was supposed to, but hey it was fun. I think that was the first time he has initiated that kind of chasing play, usually its me who starts it off
Bec - that's hilarious re Isaac! Re his eating that's what Annika does too, sometimes she tries to dip it into the food, but she's not very successful. And if I'm too slow to re-load the spoons for her, she just grabs chubby fistfuls. Somewhat messy when it's yoghurt!
Chuckie - that's so exciting to hear you'll be TTC'ing again. My goodness it seems so quick, but then I remember I was starting to think about it at the same stage. I'm amazed how long your AF took. Mine has come back after 4 months both times. Re party themes, I haven't even thought about that either. I've only got as far as thinking of a date and thinking I really should get some invites out - lol!
Fuzzy - boo to those other babies biting your precious Chloe!! And there you go, I shouldn't act like anyone's AF is late returning, maybe mine was just super quick.
Dory - oh goodness that must have been a shock to have HB wean now, I imagine it was earlier than you had expected. She sounds like a little lady who knows her own mind (I have one of those too ), so I hope you'll feel better in yourself (i.e. not as tired) soon. Maybe she knows mummy needs her reserves if she wants to make a little brother or sister? You said it seems funny to get bent up about it, but I think there's so much grief that goes with changing stages. It's not always easy to let go of what was... and lets face it, BF'ing is such a huge important part of their first year, so it's so natural to feel sad when it's over. I felt sad when I stopped expressing for X, even though it was very much my decision (of course). Most folks just seemed to think I'd be glad to be rid of the pump, but like you, I had such mixed feelings of happiness at what I'd achieved, and sadness that it had to end. So a huge well done to you, you've done a magnificent job & you should be so so very proud of yourself. It's an achievement you'll always treasure.
Pretz - I'm a bit late, but happy 30th birthday!! Poor Noah with the teeth, that's a lot to cope with all at once. GL with your follow-up ultrasound, I hope the cyst resolves on it's own
AFM - all ok here, lots of colds. I remember how much I hate coping with everyone being snotty & grotty. Ah well, the joys of kids growing up. Annika is settling in better & better at daycare. She still isn't crawling but is a very adept roller. Crazy little munchkin! I never thought they'd both be rollers, what is it with my kids? So saying, he did crawl eventually, so hopefully she will soon. X is so funny, if she's grizzling, he comes & pats her on the head and says "there, there, you're alright". And this morning he was taking a noisy toy from her, rolling it back then taking it from her hand and saying "thank you, that's great sharing!". ROFL so funny. I think we're gonna have a joint 1st & 3rd party for them next month, should be fun - but nothing too fancy.
Hope everyone is having a good week - we have the most beautiful weather here today... yay!
Chuckie - thankyou so much for your kind words and words of encouragement about our BF'ing journey. Sadly, I feel at times like I have failed HB for not being able to continue. But I do try and think of the positives ( as lame as they are, except the TTC). My cycle is not back yet either. It will be interesting to see who actually gets their bfp first in our group.
About BLS - It takes some getting used to! HB still sometimes just plays rather than eats. But that's ok. If I am not in the mood for mess, I just feed her things that don't splatter and things she can eat herself rather than with a spoon. Still a bit messy but not quite the same as pumpkin flung on the walls.
You must be loving not having such a restrictive diet. I am still to take advantage of it.
Bec - that is so super cute about Isaac crawling away! He's a very funny and lively little boy. How's the sewing?
Belfie - it's so hard not to compare your kids to others, but they are just individuals and will do things in their own time and in their own way. I think HB is a very determined girl. I have thought at times that perhaps she realised I was getting very run down and has selflessly given me some time to recuperate. I am still not great, my lymph nodes are up in my neck and I have asthma - first time in years. But having said that, I am so much better than I was.
Fuzzy - how is work going?
Wite - are you still lurking? How is Harlow and Jett?
Buzzy - do you still follow along?
Connie - how is the new house going? Do you feel settled yet? I can't believe George is over a year old now. When will his prematurity ( corrected age etc) be less significant to his development?
I had a crisis of confidence yesterday. Thankfully it has passed and I feel positive again. But I have to run to collect my Mum and Aunt from hossy. My aunt with downs syndrome had a op today and it's the HB and Dory Taxi Service with a Smile! Better be on time!@
Belfie - nawww that's so cute about X and the sharing and head patting. Annika is lucky to have such a caring big brother Hope all the colds have cleared up now. Yep the BLS is so messy, I know I have cooked a nice meal when there is none on the floor! I've been meaning to ask you if you have any tips for expressing? Isaac likes weet bix much better if I make it with EBM instead of water (and also I prefer him to have EBM on it because he doesn't eat much of it), but some mornings I can't get more than 20-30mls.. any tips you can share?
Dory - haha at pumpkin being flung on the walls, that wouldn't happen here, Isaac love it and just about inhales it. Yogurt and weetbix gets flung/dropped though! thanks, sewing is going really well. I am a little bit proud of how much I have improved since I started, with all the practise (sewing just about every day and night) and now I have a snap press machine (goodbye velcro!!) my things just look a wee bit professional now, if I may say so myself! I have so much scrap fabric, I am trying to create lots of new things now.
Not much happening here, went for a long walk with my baby wearing friend today, both of us with our bubs happily on our backs. Was such a nice day for it.
Just sticking my nose in to say HI. Steve has taken Chloe to the pool for a swim and I find myself wondering the internet...
Looked at my old TTC buddies and got really sad that Chloe is nearly 1 and some of them are still waiting for their little bundles. I'm scared about trying for number 2.
Work is going well, thanks for asking Dory. Although I was VERY bored there the other day. How is the TTC coming along?
Invites have gone out for Chloe's first birthday which we are having in a park near us. Cant wait!
Feeling extremely unfit and blah and really want to get back into swimming. As soon as the weather improves.
Fuzzy - wow, some time at home alone! WOOT WOOT!!!!! Ahh boredom is your friend!!!! I hope that your TTC buddies time will come. And talking of TTC - AF came on Tuesday. Not such good timing as there was some confusing emotions about bleeding on Sophie's anniversary ( my labour started with a show) and AF. But am feeling much better about that today. I realised this morning that ovulation would be coming up soon, and that I had to work out all that stuff again about when to DTD. How quickly I have forgotten all that stuff. Not DTD. LOL
Awesome about the invites for Chloe's birthday going out. Well done! It's such an achievement.
Anyway, I am off to bed. Meant to go earlier, but had an upsetting email (just someone being insensitive), but I needed to "breathe" and let some of the emotions go.
Time to snuggle with a cat and go to sleep. DH is not here, so he misses out.
wow it has been very quiet here! Hello to everyone, lots of birthdays coming up!
Just popping in to say I have taken the plunge and booked flights to Tanzania for next month! So excited, I'm going straight there from our WA trip so will be away from home for about a month all up. So Isaac will finally get to meet his father! I have had some messages from David, he is very happy we are coming and is very much looking forward to meeting Isaac
I'm still lurking girls!!
Hope everyone is well, I have had a very clingy baby who hasn't really given me time ot do much so I haven't been able to sit and do a big post!
Harlow has started walking now, she gets into EVERYTHING! I just ordered invites for her birthdaynext month, can't believe all our babies are 1/turning 1!!
Bec - that is AWESOME! Well done on taking such a big step. You will be glad to go back, I know your heart is truly there, and that David is just an added an attraction. Just think how much your friends there are going to adore Isaac!! Did you end up paying for a separate seat for Isaac? On international flights you pay a small percentage of the fare but domestic you have to pay the whole amount. Which MCN's do you use? I am starting to really get into mine, but have to admit to a wee addiction in trying out lots of different sorts. I normally get them new but the other day I borrowed one from a friend to try.... quite unlike the germ phobe me. DH was aghast.... he just repeated the word "borrowed" with a look of horror. I will PM you, I have another question to ask about Tz for a friend of mine.
Wite - good to hear from you! Harlow walking, wow, she is not even one yet. What a clever girl. Hope you are coping with her sep anxiety. Today Hannah went to a complete stranger for about 5 mins, no crying or fussing. It was a complete shock and a little weird.
Anyway, better go. I have some gardening to do and am procrastinating by being on the computer. LOL. Take care.
Thanks Dory, I'm so excited. You are so right, David is just an added bonus of going back and not the main reason. I look at friends photos on facebook and it makes me feel a bit homesick for the place. I never thought I would fall in love with Africa before I went there, but I did. So anyway its all turning out more expensive than I budgeted for (just paid $190 for a two week tourist visa today, wasn't expecting that!) so I'm trying to pull in my spending even further than I already do. Oh well, lucky I like toast!
I had to pay 10% of the fare for Isaac, about $230 just to hold him. He doesn't get a seat, but with any luck they will give me a bulkhead seat with extra room and maybe one of those bassinets he can sleep in to give my arms a rest. On domestic flights he can fly for free, if I hold him, until he is two which is great. We are having a stop over in Dubai each way so that will break the trip up a bit, should be good, I've never been there (or anywhere in the Middle East for that matter) before so looking forward to it.
MCN's, I use mainly Baby Beehinds. I got a pack with all the different types in it, and then bought some extra Magic-Alls with velcro because I love them. This is going to sound very strange, but I got a great deal on some large ones, but they are hot pink! Who said boys don't look good in pink! I use the minky magic alls with extra boosters as night time nappies, they soak up a lot, and stay nice and dry. I also like the hemp nappies, they stay dry too. I also have some Bum Cheeks, they are ok now that Isaac is fitting into them properly. I also use good old terry flats every day, with a bamboo fleece booster and a BBH cover. They dry so quickly, and are super cheap. Haha that's so funny about your DH, but when you have another baby I bet he won't bat an eyelid about using Hannahs old nappies on the new baby! I feel a bit bad that Isaac will be in disposables for a whole month, after using MCNs they just feel so flimsy, plasticky, just not nice. It was so great to put the good nappies back on him after our last trip! Much more comfy for him. Maybe I'll let him have lots of no nappy time to make up for it.
Hope you had fun gardening
(PS I'l reply to your PM hopefully tomorrow, I have a feeling Isaac is going to wake up very soon so I'll be going to bed as soon as he does )
Wite, sorry to hear Harlow has been clingy, but good to hear she has reached another milestone They are growing so quickly, we don't have little babies anymore..
Bec - I loved Dubai. It also makes a long haul flight much more bearable. We had a stop over there en route to Europe and I loved it. It was hot though. We stayed in a hotel in town, and not on the tourist strip ( near the beaches). It was a hotel that was primarily for indian families so the breakfast buffet was interesting! They have opened the new airport. I read something somewhere about the airport having facilities for children but I can't remember exactly what.....I think it was that they provide strollers or a play area. There is sooo much money in that place, but having said that we were there on a very tight budget and we got to do most of the things we wanted. I loved going to the markets and going on the funny little river boats and just cruising around the city esp at mosque time. It feels quite safe ( well except for the markets, where they stall holders are quite pushy and even follow you down the street).
I am awe - terry flats? I have thought about trying them... but have baulked. LOL. Much cheaper than MCN's. It's interesting about MCN's - there are SOOOOO many brands out there and so many different styles. It's actually so confusing until you just take the plunge and get some and see what you like and don't like. I tend to like the OSFM ( one size fits most) and AIO ( all in ones). I prefer snap ins for convenience but the pocket ones do tend to be more absorbent. I have yet to try ones that need a cover, but getting some terry flats and some groovy covers would be quite economical too. I have just stumbled across one called MonknBear. They are snap in AIO's. They are more economical than a lot of others. I bought one today ( I said I was addicted). Can't wait to try it. I read some reviews that said it was better than the itti bitti snap ins.
I will have to stop buying them soon. I really can't afford it but like you, lucky I like toast, as does HB and DH. Fancy blowing my budget on MCN's. Sometimes I feel like a fool. But I have 10 now. It's just this week I have bought 3 different ones. bad dory.
How is your EC going? I was making some progress then got side tracked because I got busy again. At least there is no guilt.
I am currently waiting for H to wake up and then I will got and visit my mum and aunt who are in town for a medical appointment. HB has got two more teeth coming through. so far not too much discomfort. That will be 6 teeth. No walking yet, but lots of balancing independently and lots of cruising.
It's weird about TTC for me. When I was BF'ing I was so keen to TTC. Now, I am due to ovulate very soon and could have had an opportunity this morning but was reluctant. That could just be about practicalities though - we're going to visit my Dad at the end of October and have just paid for the flights and car hire etc. Even though we have insurance and may not lose $, if I were UTD we couldn't go on the trip and I am looking forward to it. But it's interesting anyway, being on this roller coaster again.
Anyway, better go cherub has woken, so it's time for lunch before our adventures begin.
Hello to everyone else, sorry I have been so self absorbed today. I hope you are well and you little ones continue to delight and amaze you. This is an amazing journey but I am curious to know how I will manage toddlerhood!
Dory - that's great to hear you loved Dubai. I acually don't know much about it, but looking forward to it now. Oooh and I can't wait to hear the call to prayer from the mosques, I really love that about Islamic countries. It really makes me feel like I am somewhere different, and interesting. Where I used to live in Tanzania, when all was still and quiet at 5am or some crazy hour in the morning you could hear the call to prayer from a mosque over the hills
How's your mcn addiction going? Did you see the reports in the media yesterday? The 'news' was that 95% of people use disposables, even though they cost way more and the high environmental costs It's interesting, disposables have only been around for 34 years. You know, I only have 10 MCNs I use. I have four large (and pink) ones in the cupboard but they are too big. The combination of mcns and flats works well, especially in winter when the mcns were taking forever to dry. Talking to a friend at the park today, she is tempted to try cloth now that she has realised how much disposables cost, and do a mixture. Cloth at home and disposables out and at night. I agreed with her and told her that even if she buys one MCN for $25, and uses it once every second day for two years, she will save herself from buying 365 disposables.
Oh funny thing, I think David got his months mixed up. He messaged me yesterday and asked if we were in town and when can we meet.. a month early, but at least I know he's keen lol
Bec - ah, the call to prayer, so haunting, but in a nice way. I am not religious and it's kind of nice to know other people are. LOL David is very keen.
Ahh the MCN's addiction. I haven't bought any this week.... yet. I had 6 initially, and I started to use them intermittently from when H was 6 months. For whatever reason I just wasn't up to it before then, even though I had wanted to. I also was worried about them being too bulky on H and too hot. I did try and it seemed too much. Now that I use them 95% of the time, I wonder why I found it so hard initially. Having more of them helps me to use them more? It means the pressure is off to wash every day. I still wash every day because I don't like the idea of dirty nappies. I use at least 5 a day. I do only try to buy ones on sale though. There are soooooo many out there.
However the next step is I want to get some swim nappies, as I currently use dispossies for swim nappies.
I was going to ask you a question about travelling with Isaac, but I have forgotten.
Buzzie - good to hear Bella is going so well. GL with the party!
Anyway, I am going to watch some telly and then go to sleep. Hoping for a better night tonight. H was unsettled last night from bed time til midnight. Maybe it was her cold and maybe it was a new food I gave her.
We have been away for a month and got back last night. We had a really relaxing break in Keppel Sands (near Rocky), Hervey Bay and Surfers but it is also lovely to be home. DH is off work until Tuesday which is also nice.
Dory - how is HB sleeping? Hopefully it has improved. Where are you at with TTC?
Bec - great news re Tz - what a spin out to introduce a man to his 1-year-old son!! It will be interesting to see if Isaac picks up any daddy vibes. Good on you for biting the bullet and buying the ticket.
Buzzie - nice to hear from you - does the party have a theme? P is still just bum shuffling around - does not even pull herself up on the furniture (gets to her knees and that's about it!)
Wite - hello! I am waiting for the clingy stage to start here - no sign of it at all while we were away P was just trying to make friends with everyone and both times we were on the monorail she shuffled off my lap and onto the lady next to me's lap! Hope Harlow grows out of it soon must be super annoying.
Hi to everyone else.
AFM - I head back to my old job next week two days a week - I am very lucky with how flexible it is so I can do a super long day on Fri while DH is home and make up the rest of the time in the evening etc so P won't have to go to child care.
Also since my cycle finally started again last month we thought we would start TTC and I was hoping to have some news to tell my fam when we went to visit - sorry for TMI but AF was due on about the 11th of Sept and I did about three tests between then and the 18th all BFN but I tested again on the 22nd - BFP!! I am a bit confused about how far along that makes me and still a bit in shock because we did not BD THAT much (not like we did for P!) but it all feels great so far - just a touch of insomnia (like P) and sickness which seems to be made worse by fatty foods (good reason to eat healthy). I'm heading to the Drs next week to get a scan and try to work out the dates but I think I will be due in mid-late May (approx 5-7weeks). Of course I will feel less paranoid once I pass the 12 week mark but I am feeling very positive about this preg and feel very lucky to get progo so quickly (and without really trying).
PS Please don't mention my news on fb as I am yet to announce to ANYONE!

Chuckie!!!! OMG wow congrats, that's awesome! Honestly I can't believe how time has flown that folks are starting to ttc (well not just start in your case!!). That's so exciting for - funnily enuff it was nearly the same for us. Got PG first month we tried - for Annika - so very lucky.
AFM can't believe I now have a 1yo & a 3yo!! We had a joint party on the weekend. The party itself was great, but X had allergy troubles for days before (means little sleep for mummy & daddy), I had shocking sinuses and the daddy got the dizzies back again. So he's not allowed to drive & is taking it v easy right now. We're desperately hoping it won't last 4 mths this time!! But I'm hopeful actually cos at least we know what it is this time. So busy week for me, and thank goodness for family daycare. I slept 90 mins yesterday arvo - heaven!! And Annika is so settled there now, she smiles at me when I say goodbye - awesome!!!
Hope everyone is well with all those gorgeous 1yo bubs!! (or nearly 1yo!).
