Hi MD. Glad your essay is out of the way, feels good to have it over and done with :) I had a moment the other day when I realized that I now have 10 weeks and 10 chapters of text to get through, as well as an essay and a birth. Mentally preparing myself for another crappy grade :(

Bloke's night at kindy tonight for fathers day - the kids go in with their dad/uncle/grandfather etc and have fish and chips for tea and the kids made dessert today. DH has been looking forward to it :)
A is finally feeling better and was actually human today which was nice :)

Oz: no plans here...i only just realised that i only have tomorrow to get something as i start work on Friday (eeeepppp!) and saturday he is going to be around so won't have time to duck out and get something.

we would like to escape for the weekend, but DH is in a bit of a funk so not sure if i can corral him into the car.

Arte: oh thank goodness that miss A is feeling a wee bit better :dance: i remember just begging for all us to be healthy for when Marta arrived. ahhh almost a year ago now....

hey cass, i wanted to ask you a q about collingwood children's farm. you've been there right? I've gotta go there for a birthday on sat. I'm just wondering would it be appropriate for me to take a pram for J or should i make him walk? i'll be on my own as dh is working

G - we go pretty much every month or so (you will love it, esp if the market is on there or at the convent)
I think he will go better walking - there is heaps of space to run around and he will want to touch/feed the animals etc.
You could the the pram if you want to 'control' him more (lol) - but it is rough ground and i have found mine would never stay in there (too much space to run etc)
Its v safe for them to be out and about - soooo much fun!
My mum lives around the corner and often takes both boys for a run/pay/play and milk shake - she is able to control them both there as there is space etc.
(when is the party, chance we are going sat arvo for a play date)

just checked out that Facebook link Trillian - i think my daughter would LOVE a rainbow cake!! i will show her the photos and see what she says... i have pairs of a couple of different shaped cake tins that are the same size (square tins, bar tins and round tins), so theoretically it shouldn't take TOO long...

thanks mp :) i think i'll just let him walk. I'm just a bit stressed because dh is working so can't come to help me.

Hey guys, any ideas for a present for a 4 year old that I don't really know (birthday party next weekend of one of K's besties from day care)

Also, has anyone seen dolls clothes that you can buy?

Cally, you could always pick a nice book. :) I took Missy E up to Big W the other day to see if there was something in particular she wanted for her birthday and she basically wanted every single thing in the pink girly aisle. LOL So based on that I don't really think you could make a mistake. When you're 4 pretty much any present is fabulous :lol:.

Cally, my DD sounds similar to MD's, in that she loves ANYTHING PINK AND GIRLY!! little pink jewellery boxes (usually used to store "collections" of shells, gumnuts, grass, leaves, etc), tiaras, pens with fluffy "plumes" (just like Fancy Nancy), wands, snow globes, handbags, etc.. the more gaudy and tasteless, the better!! if you want to get something a bit classier, then maybe a board game (snakes and ladders) or a card game (snap, memory)... you can never go wrong with books, although unfortunately you don't get as much "bang for your buck" as you do with toys, etc!

Ginger - have fun at the Children's Farm! if you have a mountain buggy/phil & teds, etc then i'd bring it to strap #2 in (esp to and from the car), and then when you're actually there, you have somewhere to leave your nappy bag, camera, etc., and also you have a threat to make them walk nicely for you seeing as you'll be alone ("if you don't walk nicely i'll have to put you in the pram")!! the terrain is a bit uneven there though, so wouldn't bother with a pram if you are using a maclaren, or other lightweight stroller...

Ozstar - we don't get into Mother's and Father's Day too much. a sleep in and a breakfast is all we do for each other, and then visit both of our own dads over the course of the day. we decided that we didn't want to get into the habit of "buying" presents, but the kids usually makes something "crafty" as well (not that they have yet this year - oops!)... then the kids "help" make pancakes or fresh orange juice on Father's Day morning...

AFM - i can't sleep. i am so big and fat and heavy and have terrible heartburn, restless legs, dry eyes, and a baby that keeps punching and kicking me from the inside out... this is DEFINITELY my LAST PREGNANCY!! for this year at least.... ha ha!! no, i mean it (sort of)...
i had a massive mental breakdown and unleashed on the builder this morning and i think he thought that i was going to go into labour and drop the baby out right there on site!! it was a little therapeutic though to gets lots of frustrations off my chest, and hopefully it will get them to lift their game a little... our ground floor slab is being poured (finally) on Sat - woo hoo!! i have a long list of building-related errands and decisions to get through tomorrow (both kids are in school/daycare), i am really in a panic that i won't get all the necessary jobs done before the baby arrives!!
i have been a little naughty and have bought a heap of Absorba (my fav!) baby clothes online in the last few weeks, and my first delivery arrived today!! god knows why my baby needs any more clothes (it doesn't!), but i hadn't bought ANYTHING this time around!! however, seeing as i don't know the sex this time around i have been buying both boys and girls things, and whichever clothes i don't use (boys or girls) will have to be used as gifts, which shouldn't be an issue seeing as all of my friends have finally decided to join me in the baby-making game!!
anyway, better try and get to sleep again... i am so tired... but so uncomfortable!

G: i am with ella on this one. i always bring the pram. good for when they are tired, good for when you are tired and good for wrangling them in if and when needed.

Cally: "fartsy claus" is a fav ATM in our house...we got it from the library and Miss L is in hysterics :rolleyes:

i only have a maclaren stroller though, so it might be more of a pita than anything. luckily L is pretty good these days and will have 2 of his older friends to play with so i can just concentrate on ragbag J.

*mwah* thanks guys! I think Leila had a fabulous day. Started super early at 5.45am :o...someone was excited lol. i made a practise ballerina cake and it looked pretty fab and tasted yummo. so that will be a relief for next saturday when the big party for the two of them is on.

We then all drove to Port Melbourne where i started my work (just a couple of hours meeting with the person and nutting out a plan of attack re the book etc). then we drove to the foreshore and had chicken and chips from a wee little italian place on the beach! then the two girls stripped down to singlets and had a SWIM! and of course i forgot my camera!! it was so ideal...glorious sun, sand and warmth....

Oh yay HAPPY BDAY TO L!! Sounds like a fantastic day. I'm so glad the cake worked out well. Bet L is looking forward to her bday party.

Sorry I have been MIA again!! Cant keep up. Totally underestimated how busy life would be with two. I also started online uni this week. Actually those of you doing online uni, how many subjects are you attempting? For some silly reason I am enrolled in three, but I am thinking I will unenroll from one, I just dont have the time to do 3 atm.

Cass, sounds like you had a great day. Hope your new job goes really well for you. So lucky it is warm enough for swimming! We had snow forecast for today but it didn't happen, but it is rather cool tonight so it might happen yet. I can't wait for summer - so looking forward to the river/lake/beach!

Isadora, I generally do one paper at a time. I did a semester 1 and a full year paper this year and I didn't have any time for the full year one at all until the S1 paper was over. Now I am struggling to catch up with the full year. There just isn't much time with two kids. I will be halfway through my course at the end of the year, will probably take me another 2.5 years to get it done - and it is only 8 papers! A bit frustrating but it is as fast as I can manage as things are.

Just lurking around. Every step I take hurts my belly and I really just want her out! Had lunch with some old uni friends today as they passed through town and they gave us some freezer food - so nice of them!

arte- freezer food sounds great :) how lovely of them. any signs of baby yet?

i honestly don't know how any of you are doing any study whatsoever. i find it hard to even keep on top of washing, cleaning, cooking and keeping up with the boys' social lives! lol

looks like i might not be going to children's farm after all. J has come down with something today, would you believe???

oh no! i hope that it is just a sniffle and you guys can still go (and taking the maclaren is perfect...it will handle it just fine!).

Arte: sounds like this baby is just making sure that birth time is coming :). i love that your friends supply you with freezer food...that is a statement that i rarely hear lol. so what kind of food was it??? i love that you and DH have venison cook offs lol.
and yep, dude, you have a lot of work on your plate, so dont hurry wurry with those papers!

Isa: man, 3 subjects online is hard. i did 3 online when i lived in Fiji and had NO kids or any other responsibilities (unless you count a cat lol), and i found that hard enough to keep up with. i would so be trying to drop a subject. but then i guess you gotta do what you gotta do if you want to finish by a set time...do you have to finish it ASAP or would you be able to let it go an extra semester.
haha, DH would love to move over there, but i was always worried about the cost of living...but then again, melbourne aint exactly peaches when it comes to that.

AFM: ahhh all that beach action meant that Marta actually slept through!!!! i swear that she has never done 11 hours in a row lol. sooo different from Leila who slept 12-13 hours straight from 6 weeks lol.
today we are eating the rest of the cake with the neighbours in the park and setting up a flying fox for the kids. should be lovely...especially as DH doesnt have soccer this weekend :dance:

G, I hope J got over his bug already - mine are quite prone to a high temp at bedtime, W sometimes has a midnight puke, and then the next day they are happy as larry!

Well, baby had her chance last night, but now she will have to wait until Tuesday because we are having presents day tomorrow and then Monday is A's birthday. Then she has a 4 day window before W's birthday and party lol. Not being too picky am I??

Oh, and if anyone is still thinking of birthday presents, I just got the Electronic BrainBox set out from toy library and W sat there for two hours straight making the circuits from the book! Trill, might be something A would be interested in?

I've had to pull out of the farm party unfortunately, J is just too sick :( i just rang my friend and she was really understanding but her ds started crying :( i feel so bad!

Cass - Yay for M sleeping through!! Must have felt like a new woman? E is not sleeping through yet either, though lately she has been sleeping till 5am ish and has a quick feed and is back to bed till 8am. So thats ok, I feel half decent. Are you still feeding M at night when she wakes? I'm not sure whether to encourage E back to sleep without that feed when she wakes? I have tried but its pretty hard. And yes 3 is way too much, who knows what was going through my mind. I am unenrolling from one, especially seeing as one I am doing has a TONNE of reading. And I am trying to get my head around the harvard referencing...I am coming from APA, but they are not too different. Just scary changing from something I am comfortable with I guess... As for the cost of living here, I dont think its too bad? But then I havent lived elsewhere. They say real estate is expensive, but I dont think its all that cheap anywhere really in any city?

We had presents day today and it was heaps of fun! They loved everything :) Then we went to the river for a few hours, such a beautiful day!

What a beautiful day today. We went for a bush walk and found a lovely deserted beach. Might take DH there for a special picnic when it's a bit warmer.

Hope everyone had a good Father's Day. We had a nice brekkie and have managed to finish off one of the supersize boxes of Favourites today. Let's just say that DH and I did not need much for dinner tonight....

Nothing happening on the baby front - tomorrow is A's birthday so she has to hold off until Tuesday.

Cally, I am ashamed to admit that I have polished off a whole box of Favourites in a day all on my own (on more than one occasion)!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes, he had a great day. We spent a couple of hours at Dreamworld then had cake for afternoon tea.

Dreamworld would of been fabulous! you know in all the (10?) years that i lived in brissy i never once made it to dreamworld :redface:. went to waterworld but that was it!

Arte: i can polish off chocolate in a flash. DH busted me though chomping down on my 'healthy' treat of dried banana chips last night and was like duuude what the? lol. i love snacks lol.

G: how is J today? we have 2 sick kids in the house ATM (no wonder M slept through the other night...she was busy baking a bug lol).

AFM: well as mentioned sick girls :( leila has a temp and bit of a cough and Marta has manifested explosive nappies. and i mean explosive. she was sitting on the floor this morning and dropped a big one and we all felt it through the floorboards lol.

Ah bummer about getting sick :(. i am trying to ward off all gross germs from the girls. i am pretty certain they have "Slapped Cheek". they have eerily bright red cheeks and flu-like symptoms. the only weird part is that M has the mega runny bottom. but i guess that could be the fever etc. i just want them to be better so we can go and have fun and enjoy the sunshine!

Cally, what did you end up getting for the 4 yo party gift? I love Ella's suggestion of a trinket box, I remember H having a stash of little glass wishing stones and crystals around that age, gotta have someone to keep your little treasures. I'm hard up thinking what to tell the grandies to buy for E because I suggested a couple of girly things that I know she really wants and there was lots of screwing up of noses (!). It's not like i've raised her to be a girly girl, for crying out loud, evidence being H who is very ungirly and who had a pretty similar balance of toys etc. *sigh*

Cass I was woohooing on the inside for you on your first day at work on fri! How exciting, aren't you clever scoring yourself such a flexible role?! Is this with the lady you were telling us about a few weeks ago? Does this mean there will be a book floating around wiht your name on the cover?

Ella, are you feeling like you're go sooner or later with this bub? Good to hear you've been keeping busy with the retail therapy while you're waiting LOL. BTW I meant to ask, did you ever meet up with Queenie IRL? I keep thinking there's a connection there.

Isadora, I think 3 subjects by distance ed is very brave. It's not like on campus study where you just have to turn up awake in order to absorb a certain amount of the content. You really have to drive the bus yourself. The bigger the study load, the tougher you have to be about your prioritising. I'm doing 1 subject and I've got to say it would have to be pretty exceptional circumstances tht would make me step up for 2. But you're a smart cookie, and i'm sure you can achieve whatever you set your mind to do. xxx BTW I'm struggling with referencing too, I was 3/4 through an assignment and thought i was getting a good hold on it when I suddenly realised they'd UPDATED their way of doing it sometime last year and I had to go through and re-do whole chunks of it :wall:

My brain was sooooo fried after all getting all those assignments in and HUGE deadline at work, I really just needed a few days to think about nothing and let the synapses cool down LOL. I got the results for one of them today and I got a very solid credit, which I'm very pleased about. Feel more hopeful about my academic future now LOL.

hello MD!!!!

yeah there will be a book with my name in it :) it will be a chapter within a book though, so not terribly exciting lol. but even still i am so happy to have some paid employment. just trying to get my head around the Australian political system of the last 30 years (yanno, something light and fun :rofl:). no, this is not with the lady, i am meeting her next week :dance:. i am excited about meeting her as her work is right up my alley. this work is more academic, interesting but not life changing ITMS.

on the gift front for girly girls i can HIGHLY recommend a ballerina musical box. i got one for my 4th birthday and it was the BEST ever gift!! loads of space for trinkets and a pretty twirling ballerina :)

AFM: i have got two very sick girls ATM :(. am starting to get quite worried. Leila has temps that wont go down, and M is basically pooing straight water (sorry for the TMI). this is day three, so i guess if by tomorrow there is no improvement (on the basis that a virus is generally 3-5 days) then i might book them in to the GP? argh! i find it hard as they are rarely unwell...

MD - I got some playdough and K picked some glittery barbie like doll which she is sure the party girl will love. However it only cost $5 (the wonders of KMart) so I will head to one of the nicer shops in town and pick some hairclips or something. Thank you for reminding me, I'd forgotten about the extras! I also sent DH and K off to get a card and remembered in the shower last night that it never appeared so I'll have to get one of them too.

Cass - oh dear, poor little thing (and mummy having to deal with it). I'd be calling the doctor today to make an appointment for tomorrow - it always takes us ages to get in to our doctor though.

On a plus for me, I've got someone starting tomorrow to help me out at work - he can do the site visits 3 days a week so I can catch up on some paperwork (fun oh fun - kind of prefer being out onsite actually, not a fan of my massive to do list though)

I second the ballerina jewelry box - I just dug mine out of storage from when I was a kid and gave it to Amelia - she loves it!

Cass, if M is on Day 3 of water bum then I would be booking her into the doctor because there is quite a risk of dehydration there, especially if she is feeling to yuck to be drinking enough. She might need something to slow things down.

Cally, I am sure your DH will appreciate the assistant - now you won't come home smelling like on-site :)

I would like this baby to come out now. Sick of hobbling around like a 90 year old!

ha ha - i am hobbling around like an 80yr old Arte - but i'm due 9 days after you, so over the next week or so i'll expect my hobbling age to increase accordingly!! i took DD to a playschool concert yesterday and sat on the floor for an hour with her sitting on my "knee" which was really her just sitting on my belly... i could hardly walk at all by last night i was so crippled!!

MD - yes, i caught up with Queenie a couple of times, but that was a couple of years back now... i see on Facebook that she had a second little girl a couple of months ago.

cass - i would definitely be taking the kids to the dr - mine have never had the runs for that long... maybe ask for a stool sample too? just so that if it doesn't clear up by itself then at least you already have some tests underway...

cally - what type of engineer are you again? environmental? i'm sorry, i know i knew once upon a time!! i went back to work briefly (only 7 months!) between DD and DS, but then left to go on maternity leave again, and ended up moving back to Perth before my second maternity leave was up. i never found a new job here because the drama in our life when we arrived, but i think by the time this next baby is 6 months old i'll definitely feel a need to return to work... i was a project engineer in Oil & Gas (Mechanical background), and have totally lost all confidence in myself as an employee though... i have no idea who would employ me, or for what role - i can't even remember any of the details of the project i was working on in my last role!! at least i'm in the right city to get work easily - and i can call in some favours from the people i used to work for when i was a bright budding graduate engineer over here (they don't need to know i haven't really learnt anything new since back then!!)...

Ella - I'm civil, doing project management at the moment - all sewage related. Used to do structural design, got a bit bored of that. I'm sure everything would come rushing back when you walked into an office!
