Thanks for A's birthday wishes! He had a great day - we had a small BBQ lunch with friends and their kids so it was very laid back.
G, be really vigilant with the ringworm treatment and keep it covered at all times - will be a PITA but it gets rid of it quicker. It can take 4-6 weeks to completely go though. E had one a few years back and we had to keep it covered so she could keep going to school otherwise she had to stay home.
Ella, it wont be too much longer now. No one has ever stayed pregnant forever LOL! I reckon you had a hindwater leak that just sealed itself over again.
hey trill, how does A like the leapster so far?
can i ask what you used to treat E's ringworm? the pharmacist gave me a tinea type cream but it doesn't seem to be doing much. i have also washed all their bedding and have taken the cat to the vet and gotten her ringworm tablets- she has no outward signs of ringworm but could be a carrier so I'm doing it just to be safe.
what do you mean by keep it covered at all times?
We tend to have a bit of fungus here from time to time, H had a bad one on her leg last year. Treated it by slathering on thick layer of canesten last thing at night - don't rub it in, but cover it with gladwrap or a non absorbent plastic-type dressing. In the morning take the plastic off, most of it will have absorbed over night. H's was quite bad but visibly better after a few days and gone completely in 10 days.
It will probably take a day or so to start looking better G. I used canesten on it at first but it didn't really respond - it looked like it was getting better then it got a bit worse again so we switched to Lamasil and it worked a treat. You just need to cover it with some gauze and tape it on or use an elastoplast bandaid that you can cut wide to fit over it. You will need to wash linen and towels everyday too.
ETA - he really loves his 'DS' LOL but he hasn't quite got the hang of it yet. I'm sure he'll be right into it in no time though.
trillian - which type of food colouring did you recommend that i use for the rainbow cake? i've told DH that he needs to make Abigail's cake if i am in hospital for her birthday, but i want to have all of the ingredients ready to go so that at least it's as easy for him as possible (or else he'll never agree to help with birthday cakes again!!)...
They were the wiltons brand ones - if you can't get them locally, check out ebay - I got mine from there and they were cheaper than anywhere else.

AFM: well, on the school note, we did a tour of the local public primary as we will be away all next year so wanted to get in and have a look and let the principal know that we are interested (it's a *very* tiny public school and places are competitive). can i just say though that it was FABULOUS! school has changed alot since i went lol! there is alot more 'free learning' mixed in with the structure and there is a BIG emphasis on learning outdoors (so each classroom has a covered wooden deck leading off etc). this school even has a rock band room where the kids can learn rock band music lessons hahahaha! i can just imagine leila going sick on the drumkit hahaha!
on a more boring front....I am STILL sick :wall: i have NFI what to do anymore. burst out crying at like midnight last night as i am just so physically spent IYKWIM. my whole body is aching and I can barely get from A to B. have booked in (again!) with the GP. but TBH i dont know what to ask :dunno:. i guess i want him to now get in and investigate my immune system and see where all the weak points are...but can they even do that?

schools are totally cool now aren't they? well primary schools anyway. secondary schools still have a lot of catching up to do, but thats a whole nother issue!

i can't believe it either!!! This time i have been sick uninterrupted since the 6 of September. and then only a week where i felt good before that, and the two weeks prior i had that rheumatic fever :( over it!!!
they are way cool! the school is like a 5 star eco sustainability school and the parents are required to not put in food in lunchboxes that are over packaged and all the food scraps are composted in the worm farm! so cool!
our kinder is like that too. absolutely no glad wrap or packaging and everything goes to the worms.
pity it all goes to the dogs once they hit high school and they spend their lunchtimes in the canteen buying hot chip rolls and washing it down with a ciggie. can't half tell I'm a jaded high school teacher huh?

my DH wasn't impressed with the cake-making idea at first, but it has grown on him!! he doesn't generally enjoy doing anything baking-related (although he does like savory cooking), but i have told him that he'll do a great job and feel a great sense of achievement when he's finished. i hope i'm right, or he'll never help out with cakes again!!

Cass, you could ask for a referral to a Dr who specialises in immune systems/disorders? maybe it could even be something simple like a thyroid problem? I can only imagine how frustrating it would be for you :hug: The school sounds fantastic! I love the way education is heading now - it it so much more holistic and looking at the whole picture. But boy it causes some problems with parents though who still think school is no place for fun! Our neighbours wont let their kids go on excursions unless they are directly related to the curriculum and what they are learning. They don't realise that all the things like that the school does only enriches the education they get. They even had one couple pull their kids out of school and send them to the catholic school because there was 'too much singing and dancing and not enough learning' happening.
ETA - We've also rehomed Chewy too. Mum came over today and I asked her if she wanted to take her home. My brother already has a cat so it would be better for her there than left here to go feral again.

AFM: well, i am feeling....a bit better :dance:. but am still to the GP as it can all change rather quickly throughout the day and the breathing probs are a bit worrysome.
ATM i can hear the girls playing in their bedroom and you know what? i love that sound!! it is so gorgeous to hear them playing and getting really involved in their fantasies etc. never having had a sibling, i just love to see it all unfold IYKWIM.

Cass, I'm thinking that you might be feeling the after effects of the rheumatic fever. It's good that you're going back to the Dr. The RF side of the things needs good ongoing monitoring, and a run of blood tests is a good idea too.

Hmmm yes very big difference between primary and high school, although from what I've seen the school we've chosen for H seems to be a little more with the program. They provide more structure and support in yrs 8 and 9 instead of just throwing the kids into the deep end of high school independence. No community garden or worm farms though and I have yet to suss out the canteen offerings. Our current canteen is done by a local cafe-owner so they have yum things like sushi and beef stirfry on the lunch menu. Costs an arm and a leg though.
AFM well I'm home today courtesy of a golfball to the windscreen on our way to school this morning. It was one that got away from the golf club, landed square in front of my face. Scary as. I'm staring at the massive crater in the glass thinking "That couldn't be a bird!? Did someone throw a rock at us?" and H (who saw it bounce before it hit us) keep repeating "It's a bouncy ball, mum! A bouncy ball." And about 3 seconds later the penny dropped. Anyway the golf club is going to pay for the repair, it's just inconvenient really, the man can't get here until this afternoon. Lucky the ball hit a car though and not a person.

All my BTs so far have come back as recovering (from the RF). i have low iron, but that is no suprise at it really is my achilles heel. but yeah, i think a chat about my immune system is in order. obviously it's just not kickstarting (and could be that the iron is a symptom of that :think:). anyway, i'll see what we can do. i am off to the TCM dude next week (had to delay as i was just too unwell). they are pretty good in getting immune systems going for gold again (or so i have been told!).
Far out MD! I reckon I would have crapped my dacks if that happened to me - or at the very least a little skid mark :LOL: How long did it take for your heart to stop pounding after it happened? :hug: Glad they are paying for it though.
Cass, fingers crossed you find out if there is anything wrong because at least you can fix it then.
cass - my two are always playing very fanciful games together too and i love it. they go on safari's, and to weddings, and make up concerts - and DS (2) is invariably dressed as a princess, butterfly, etc by his big sis. he doesn't care though - he likes being included in the game!! the latest game this week is crocodile hunting - they have been finding crocodiles everywhere, and it takes them a good 20mins to get themselves set up for the hunt - backpacks, outfits, hats, sunglasses - it's lovely to observe!! of course my DH comes home and complains about the mess of the house, but i'd rather they were playing and having fun and messing up the house than sitting in front of the TV and keeping the house tidy!!
MD - that would have been REALLY scary!! glad your windscreen didn't shatter in all over you!! my car was broken into a few years ago (side windows), and i was finding little segments of glass inside for MONTHS despite having it professionally detailed twice...
Trillian - i ordered my food colouring from eBay last night at 2am while i couldn't sleep - I was pretty excited about it, so paid the extra $4 for Express Post!! i want to make some rainbow cupcakes with the kids this weekend as a fun activity for them...
afm - went to the Ob today. he asked "so how long are you happy to wait for the baby", and i said "indefinitely", and he said "ok", and i was sent on my way for another week... baby still sitting high up and not engaged (but DS was the same until i went into labour, so i'm not worried about it), and other than some uncomfortable braxton hicks, there's been nothing of any interest to report...
the bricklayers are meant to start work on our ground floor walls next week - pretty excited about that! the slab looks pretty small at the moment, but i've been promised that it will look bigger once the walls go up. it seems counter-intuitive, but i'm hoping that it's true!!
Cass, I hope that they can find a reason for you getting so sick all the time :hug: W and A play together sometimes now and it is adorable. They were doing a pillow fight around the house the other night.
MD, I sooo would have wet my pants if that happened to me! Glad the golf course are paying for it.
Ella, anything happening yet? FIL is a builder and he always says the rooms look bigger once the walls are up.
Everything is going well here. E is great, never fusses. She has been having an incredibly convenient nap right through tea, bath and bedtime :) I know it won't last long, but it has been a good intro to having three kids. Her awake time has stretched from two to three hours now. She is still having a couple of big naps but she seems very similar to the other two so I am picking that the awake time will keep getting longer and the naps will turn into cat naps in a few weeks. Never mind though, she is adorable!
And......W goes to bed by himself and sleeps through the entire night (touch wood!)!!!! Since the day E was born and DH told him he could pick a present if he went to sleep by himself he has done it every night with no fuss - 9 nights in a row now, and the sleeping through is some crazy bonus we didn't see coming! We went to the city on Sunday and he picked a bigger Nerf gun (and one for DH) and there have been constant Nerf fights which have been fun. Erin has only been hit once and that was by DH! W has been such a great boy, so helpful and always wanting to hold E.
Amelia is taking a bit more to adjust. She is spending a fair bit of her day screeching. Very frustrating but she will get over it eventually. She is also cutting some teeth so I guess that isn't helping at all.
Nerf guns are a huge hit in this house too Arte, the boys have so many of them now and apparently they are all necessary LOL! But they are loads of fun. That is fantastic that W is sleeping through now. I really really hope that it lasts! How is A on that front though?
Ella, it's weird the way it changes when you have the walls up. We had a friend build a few years ago and the rooms looked so tiny, but yeah, once it was done they were decent sized rooms. I hope it's not too much longer for you to wait either :hug:
Arte, good to hear from you, I've been wondering how you're getting on. Is your pelvis feeling much better now? Yay for W's sleeping, amazing what happens when you push the right motivational button LOL.

Trill, will you be doing a summer subject/semester this year? I had previously intended to but I think I'll let my brain to cool off for a little while instead. I've been finding it hard to think and concentrate all day for work (some big deadlines lately) and then come home and have to think and concentrate some more, and I've been putting off making decisions because the lobes are too weary, and I can only think about one thing at a time!
BTW - DD1 got her Naplan results back and she's at the top of the top band for persuasive writing and off the chart for grammar and punctuation (!). So I looked over her UniNSW comp thing again, and 2 years ago she scored above the 91st percentile. How can she possibly be below the 10th percentile now? I smell a RAT. So I rang them up (UNSW) and they are going to send me a copy of what she wrote. Either it was tripe and we can discuss where it all went so horribly wrong (and hopefully learn from the experience) or it was good and they've made an error and they will need to review their results. I'm much happier now I know I can get a copy of what she did.
Trill, A has slept though a couple of times lately, but usually she has a wake up and needs to be put back in bed. She was going straight back to sleep, but the last couple of nights she has howled at the door for 20 minutes or so before putting herself back to bed.
MD, pelvis is still sore but much better than it was. The ligament pain is mostly gone - it was more of a physical whiplash type injury from the birth so it has cleared up faster than the hormonal caused pain I think. But my tailbone is still sore and I have been trying to get a referral to the physio but the fill-in midwife doesn't seem to be doing it. I was hoping to get there this week while DH was at home but I don't see that happening now.
Well done to H for her Naplan results (I still don't know what they are but top of the band and off the chart sound good!). I wonder if they have mixed up the marks for the comp and some other kids is sitting on her award? How is H going now?
Poor kid was in a cold sweat when she handed over the Naplan envelope to me to open LOL. So she is much relieved, although I intend to whoop as much academic mileage out of her failed assignment as I possibly can. This might be where she actually makes the connection that there is some relationship between degree of effort and outcome. (ETA Naplan is a set of compulsory national tests of different aspects of literacy and numeracy that all Aust children do every 2 years. You get a detailed report which shows where your child sits in relation to the expected performance range, the average for your school and the national average for that age).
Have you tried to ring the physio service/department direct? Reason I ask is because at the hospy I went to I was able to self-refer, so you might be able to bypass the middie and organise it yourself.

They are fantastic results for H, MD! Clever thinking about calling UNSW about her comp results too. Maybe she was just having an off day the day she did it?
Arte, after having both A and P, my tailbone was sore for weeks afterwards. Sometimes when you give birth the tailbone is pushed out enough by the baby passing through that it can take a while to settle down afterwards. After A it was that bad I could hardly sit sometimes. Definitely give the physio a call about it though.

great news- we have just ordered an awesome cubby! it is for L's bday, xmas and J's b'day combined (that's how bl88dy exxy it is) so excited though, it is an absolute cracker and hopefully they will love playing in it.
Ginger, the cubby must be awesome! Hope they enjoy it. Not much doodle stuff here. He sometimes plays with it a bit after bath time when it is right there but he doesn't go out of his way to play with it otherwise.
The crying in the night must be worrying :(
Trill, I have had trouble with my tailbone in all three pregnancies but this is the first time it has lingered after the birth - I guess because she was big and she was slow to come out.

My mum came to visit yesterday and had the little springer spaniel/ beardie cross pup with her - so freakin' cute!! I want a puppy! And another baby! Cluck, cluck, cluck lol.

G L is ALWAYS playing with his doodle, he will sit there on the lounge watching tv with his hand in his pants lol. We did notice the other week though that his foreskin now comes back so we think thats why he has been extra fiddly. The cubby sounds awesome.

Oz, it does seem so grown up doesn't it? Just think, this time next year we will be talking about getting SCHOOL UNIFORMS! I'm devastated already LOL.
MD, I forgot to say earlier that I wont be doing a summer semester this year. Far too much work when I have all 4 kids home and they aren't offering any subjects that I need to do anyway. TBH I'm looking forward to the long break from it. I've been going full on since the start of last year and my brain needs a rest LOL.
G, the cubby will be a hit I'm sure! it could be growing pains but not likely kwim? Maybe bad dreams? I know A will wake up upset from time to time and most of the time he has no idea what is wrong. But if you think it is growing pains, maybe give him a good rub on the legs before bed and see if it helps. My brother used to get them really bad when he was about 5 and Dad used to massage his legs with liniment to ease them. And A will always play trumpet with his pecker in the bath but he doesn't really bother with it any other time. L never touched it at all really LOL - he's a bit of a prude like that.
G - we have a little bit of growing pains here. She wakes up in teh middle of the night quite upset, saying her legs hurt. I tend to give them a rub and put a heat pack on them. Seems to help. Niece gets them quite bad and they give her Panadol when she's really upset from them.
Trill - good idea to give your brain a break. We're heading up to Canberra tomorrow. Bridesmaid dress shopping, clothes shopping for me, visit to Koko Black and a little party for Miss K while we are there. Back middle of next week, then my sister and mum are coming down for a couple of nights. Week off will go pretty quickly. So glad I've got tomorrow off, there was a late afternoon disaster and I just kept doing what I was doing and let my boss sort it out - by the time I get back it will be all resolved and buried somehow onsite.

Arte - great news about W sleeping through!! i'm sure you would have bought him a nerf gun years ago if you knew it would do the trick!! never had a sore tail bone with the other two - hope i don't develop one after this birth!! this baby feels HUGE though - hope it's just in my head... i don't want to deal with all of the tearing that i had with DD - that was horrific!! as for wanting a puppy and ANOTHER baby - you need your head tested!!
MD - H sounds pretty sharp! i'm surprised they will let you see a copy of the test - thought they would be worried about covering their own backs!!

Ginger - my DS (2yrs) has just discovered his "willy" in the last few weeks. he doesn't really play with it much (yet), but likes to talk about it a lot, and likes to comment on DHs when they're in the shower together!! ("Daddy you have BIG willy, me have little willy, mummy no have willy, Abi no have willy. Just me and daddy.") DH is getting a bit self-conscious about it and asked at what age he should stop showering with the kids and sleeping naked - i told him not to worry about it for a long time yet - i'm sure he's not mentally scarring them!!
the cubby sounds fantastic! is it a wooden one, or a plastic one? i was thinking of getting one (a wooden one) for our new house (eventually!), but i worry about it being a trap for redbacks... the kids would love it though, and if it kept lots of the mess outside i'm sure it would be worth it's weight in gold!! i want to see photos!

AFM - i am still waiting... waiting... my nephew asked my sister today if my baby "had fallen out yet" - i really wish that's the way it happened - i stood up from the computer desk and whoosh, out fell the baby!! i have now tipped the 80kg mark on the scales (60kgs pre-pregnancy), and have a new set of stretch marks appearing on my already stretch-mark ridden torso... this baby better be cute to make up for it!! and sleep... yeah right...
LOL Ella! If only it were that easy! I'm sure whatever size this baby is that you will birth just beautifully!
Cally, where is Koko Black? We brought some back for MIL (and me ;) ) when we went to Melb, and I'd love to get some more. Sounds like you will need a holiday to get over your holiday!
G, I thought of something else that could be the culprit too - worms! If they have worms that can make their sleep crappy too. If you haven't wormed him for a while it might be an idea to do it. They can pick up worms so easy so its possible he has them.

oz- i havent noticed that about the foreskin but i'll have to have a look. maybe that he is why he is so obsessed with it lately?
i will definitely take lots of pics of the cubby once it is up and running (might take a while seeing as my dh is putting it together) lol. it is really cute- has a green colour bond roof with a skylight, a little letterbox and cute little planter boxes at the front which i will put flowers into. so excited for the boys!
Trill, Cass and I have shared a very sweet half hour together in Koko Black in Canberra! You'll have to go there just to uphold the Sept mummies tradition LOL. I couldn't describe how to get there though, I think it's on the outside of the new curvy bit of the Canberra centre (?) I had the most psychadelic time driving around while I was there because I could only remember bits of where I was supposed to be going but I couldn't make the connections. Did a few u-turns and extra trips around the block LOL. Yay for giving your brain a rest!
Ginger I was going to mention the worms too, because that was causing E a lot of nighttime discomfort for a while, I wormed her and that fixed it within 24 hours. They sell syrup and chewable medications over the counter. I don't think it matters which brand you buy, but you might want to worm everyone else in the family and kitkat at the same time.
Ella, wouldn't it be great if you could just open the floodgates like that?! Whoosh! And I'm sure your baby will be sooper dooperly cute to make up for the long wait and the extra silveries. xxx
