i know, i know, I've been slack MIA again haven't i?
ok, so what have i got to talk about today? we have just finished the chestnut festival again. so glad to have it over. my stall raised $2068 for the kinder so I'm happy about that. J and L are going really well. L loving kinder and making a few other friends other than just his bestie which i am happy about. it was turning into a bit of a bromance so its good to see him branch out a little and make other friends. i simply cannot TT J. i don't know what to do. he refuses to wear undies at all- kicks them off screaming and goes and gets a nappy. i think its going to be a long drawn out process.
thanks for all your responses re: fb dilemma. we were quite close back in the day but i just think that 15 yrs is a long time to try to make up iykwim? we ended up having a convo on fb chat one night and she ended it by saying we'll meet up for coffee soon. idk, i sort of hope it just never eventuates any further.
cally- how is miss K going now? hopefully she has picked up a bit. you have inspired me to do the intensive swimming holiday program so i have booked L in for next hols.
cass- not sure if you've already answered this but are you finding out the gender on this one?
arte- how did the lady go with W? oh and happy belated bday!!!
trill- do you know yet whether L got into the high school?
-
Hey G! Don't worry about not being here that much - we all do what we can. That's great you raised so much money. When I did fundraising with our preschool we raised a heap of money over the years to the point where for the last few years they have hardly had to do any fundraising, but they are spending it like there is no tomorrow too. So glad this is my last ever year of preschool because I reckon next year they will expect you to have your hands in your wallet every week because they have spent it all. Mind you this is just a parent committee too and not the preschool. I'm sure the preschool doesn't need half the shiit they have brought. Good to hear about L widening his friendship circle too. My kids have always been 'one person friend' type kids and it always bit them because their friend would go off to a different school. Alister is the same, but his best mate will go to the same school.
We find out the end of June/july ifhe got in or not. I'm so anxious about it though. I'm really hoping that his academic record at school will help him get a place. He told me he did a reading assessment the other day and only got 4 words wrong - I had a google and it means he has a reading age of a 14yo! Surely that amount of brains has to count for something?
I had a shiity music assignment that I had to do back before easter and it was hands down the worst assignment I have ever had to do - totally out of my depth and a lecturer that was a complete nutjob, but I got a HD 85% mark for it today and I am beyond happy about it. But by the same token, the person we all thought would ace it got a really poor mark so we have no idea what's going on. We've all told her she should have it remarked.
-
thanks trill. i have 2 more years of pre school as J starts next year. the one friend thing does concern me, but as i said, lately he has gathered a couple of others that I'm pleased about. 14 yo at reading is amazing! I'm sure he will get in but i understand your anxiety :)
well done on the music assignment

Miss K is almost back to normal. Still a bad cough, but she was right for preschool today and was desperate for swimming lessons too (if it hadn't been 26 today I might have said no, but the weather was so warm!).
Ginger - I'm sure the intensive lessons will go well, they make such a difference.
Trill - wow, 14 year old reading age! Awesome!
-
Trill, well done on the HD! Is the reading test that Wood**** thing? Do they still use that? I am sure that L will get into the high school. They will be lucky to have him there.
G, well done on the fundraising! W is just branching out making friends with a couple of other kids too. He had a bad habit of only just making a friend the week or two before the other kid went to school but these couple are the same age as him.
With J, personally I would give up for a month or so and start again. I just did with A, couldn't be bothered with all the screaming and hassle so we will try again next holidays.
Cally, hope K is feeling better. E has a cold and we have spent hours up in the middle of the night for the last two nights because she is all blocked up and feverish :(
W's appointment was postponed until next week.
Not much happening here. Miss E is very close to walking now - she can stand quite happily and she did about 8 steps chasing the cat the other night but went a bit crooked and crashed into the couch lol.
Oh, I do have exciting news! For me anyway lol. I made the last payment for DH's student loan today. All paid off - that means nearly $800 extra every month! So nice to have it over and done with :)
-
Far out Arte! That is a huge amount of extra money to have each month. I saw that video of E and she is soooo close to walking isn't she? So cute too.
Cally, I can't even comprehend swimming lessons at this time of year LOL. You can't half tell we don't have indoor pools around here. Good to hear she is recovering well.
-
Trill - this indoor pool is still only 12m long, but at least it is in a proper building. We went for a while to one that was basically an above ground pool with a shed around it. That was awful, particularly because we were still getting in with her!!
-
Missed your post before Cally - good that K is feeling better. We have the plague here - E seems a bit better but I think I have man flu :(
A few years back when I just had W, there was a lady that lived a few houses down that had three kids and she always had a line-up of extra kids around there playing and I was like OMG that woman is insane!. Then this morning my friend popped around and her DS wanted to stay and play, and I had already arranged a playdate for A, so there I was with a boat load of kids running riot and I realised that I am just like her! Crazy how life just happens to you!
-
And was it easy Arte? I reckon each of them having a friend over would be pretty good, less chance of the squabbling siblings if they have a friend.

Happy Mothers Day to the best mummies on the block!
*MWAH*. Love you all.xxx
-
oh yes of course! it is Mothers Day over there already!!!!!!
Much love and happiness to you wonderful bunch of women!!! Hope that the day is lovely and that some of you (ok, like all of you get some sort of spoils!)
:loveshower:
-
We don't do Mother's Day here but I hope you lovely ladies all had a fabulous day :)
-
I've never really been into mothers day, mum said she wanted to be appreciated every day not just one day, but i have to say i love that the girls want to make craft things for me and spoil me. I loved it. They made DH take them shopping and they picked all sorts of things for me too! Spent most of the day in airports and on planes but waking up to them jumping around all excited because it was mothers day was priceless. :-) Happy mothers day ladies.
I popped in to ask how you all go at bed time. I try to stick to 7-730 bed time but lately L is insisting we sit with her to go to sleep. Drives my barney when i have other babies to get to bed too. Any tips? Anyone care to tell me it's just a stage???? :/
-
Hi JM!! Good to 'see' you! Is it too late to send something for your container? Or has that ship sailed all ready, literally? We got caught short last month - our budget didn't quite stretch to feeding an extra two adults all month! But all is good now and I would like to send something if there is time.
We actually have a good bedtime here now. The kids all go to bed around 8pm. We tried earlier, but it was just causing trouble because they weren't tired enough. W used to need us to sit with him when he was going to sleep but the night E was born DH said he could pick any present he wanted if he went to sleep by himself for three nights. Shameless bribery but it worked! And he is a stubborn cookie, I thought we would be sitting on his bed until he was 23. He did whinge a bit at times, but we didn't give in and now he is very solid. A needed someone to sit with her as well until Xmas holidays when she was sharing a room with W and I couldn't be bothered sitting in there so I said I needed to go to the toilet and never went back in lol. By the time we got back from holiday we could just give her a kiss and cuddle and she happily chatters to herself and then nods off. Erin is a delight and generally just fits in :)
In summery: I think it is a stage, but you might need to push it if you want it to end itms.
-
Container is all sealed up and on the way Arte. I appreciate your thoughts to help though.
Quietly chatting and going off to sleep would be a dream! i am pretty strict with bed time. 2 stories and bed between 7 and 7.30 every night. But still, every single time i get "I want to stay up, i'm not tired, i can't go to sleep by myself" regardless of how tired they are. Their eyes can be hanging out of their head and i get the same carry on. I never give in, so i don't understand why they persist. They drive me mad. I am not afraid to use shameless bribery, and in fact i have, but it doesn't seem to work! It did for a little while but now we are back to square one after our last trip to Aus. I figure all the travelling we do is a little unsettling for them but oh how i'd love them to go to sleep on their own.
-
I'm livin' the dream JM! I didn't think it would ever happen for us, those mythical kids that just go to bed but we got there and I am sure you will too. Have you tried the old "I've just got to do a quick (but totally boring) job, I will be back in 2 minutes" thing? Or a special bedtime activity book that they can only draw in at night? I feel your pain.
Isn't it frustrating when you never give in yet they keep persisting!! I seem to have given birth to pure stubborn :wall: A is making me look like a total failure as a mum at kindy - she screams and cries every time a teacher asks her to do something. Every.single.time. Looks like some sort of wild child that doesn't have to live by any rules at home!
-
hello my wuvie women!
JM: (!!!!!!) so excited to see you in here again  hhmm bedtime in our house as a general rule is somewhere between 7-7.30pm. Miss M still gets boob at bedtime, but thankfully miss L has always just popped off to sleep :hide:
i have no practical advice i'm afraid :(
that said, Miss L has mastered the art of procrastination...water, toilet, one more book etc. we let her have a sip of water and of course go to the bathroom, but no extra books lol. i reckon the procrastination is a phase...i hope so lol
AFM: we are traversing Texas ATM. not much to report - lots of cows.

We have a 7:30 bed time. That is when stories are supposed to start, with toilet and teeth done by then. She is pretty good at just going off by herself, she's finally giving up the day naps so we've had really good ones lately where she's passed out during stories. We did have a stage where she wanted 'pats' each night. I would do it sometimes, but other times just say 'no, Mummy still has lots of her jobs to do' or 'Mummy's hip is too sore for pats tonight' (which makes me sound so old, but I just can't sit on the floor sometimes!). Anyway, I found she was really good at accepting it. Can you just explain that there is only one Mummy and what about the other girls and you can just check on her and pop your head in? Sorry, no other ideas.
Taking Miss K for an eye check next week. She's always been light sensitive (doctor and child nurse always comment when they flash the light in her eyes, but assure me it's not an issue) but lately it seems to be. She makes us turn the lights off some evenings (which drives me mental because I NEED light!) and is constantly in her sunglasses. Also seems to have had a lot of headaches this week which may be due to her cold though.
