Babies Born ~ September 2007 #72

Trill: nah, usually they keep all their 'house' stuff in the dorm. they are given their own wardrobes etc (well, this is going from my cousin that moved to brissy to go to boarding school...he would come out each weekend and stay with us with just an overnight bag...he definitely kept his pet fish at school at his dorm desk lol).

MD: maybe your waters are psychic?? please? can it be today that i have a baby...please? lol. i am bad. i never knew that i would reach a point of being so ready to have a baby...never happened before lol.

AFM: Miss L has her second orientation day today :) she is busting my guts about it and it doesnt start until 1.30pm...going to be a loooonnngggg day lol. then we have the neighbourhood trick or treat thang happening between 6pm and 8pm. i was hoping to go into labour around then and REALLY freak the kids out BAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

We had our parent info night last night. All looks lovely, at this stage there are 2 classes of 20, with a few out of area kids on a waiting list. They might do a K/1 class if they get a few more. Only fly in the ointment was on Day 2 and 3 of Term 1 they do their Best Start assessment (NSW thing) and the kids only come in for 30 minutes on one of the days! So I've booked my mum in for 2 days of babysitting. Kind of weird starting, then being home again for 4 days. Orientation starts in a fortnight. Got the after school care forms too. Loving the $17 a day for that (incl afternoon tea) compared to day care costs.

Trill - the school won't have any need for the bed on the weekends, they wouldn't expect it all to come home. King single - must be lots of long legs! And 4 towels - they'll be super clean!

Arte - awesome news on the clothes falling down! Enjoy this summer not being pregnant/with small baby. And you and DH BE CAREFUL in December!! (Unless you want 4 little bundles of joy/sleeplessness.......);)

Yeah, I have to say that when i went into the preterm labour this time I too really thought: 'well of course...i only make september babies afterall' lol. thankfully though she decided to cook a bit longer...i told her that if she came out when we wanted to back then that she would have to be born in that fluro-lit narrow bed and be man-handled by a million people. maybe i scared her too much and now she wont wanna come out lol?!

Cally: those sound like nice small classes and not too many preps overall at all! that has to be beneficial to learning and making friends for all of them! DH has been the one going to the info sessions (on at the same time as orientation) and he is loving the vibe in general. such a relief, because you never really know when it is your first time as the parent sending them there IYKWIM. and totally agree about the small cost of after school care! and the no wait list!!

AFM: took the girls trick or treating (part of neighbourhood planned activity) and it was awesome fun :) but i think i overdid it and have pulled my poor stomach muscles :( everything feels so bruised and tight...waahhhh! i am seriously thinking of investing in those SRC recovery shorts. are they for muscle support? or are they only for weight loss? cause if it is the latter i dont really care, but do want something to help with my poor muscles.

There are only about 300 at the school total - the principal made a big point of not wanting to get too big and keeping a community feel which is good. Feeling so excited about it all now.

Cass, I thought I might be having a sympathetic labour but you are still posting here so I suspect it is just a raging UTI. So sore! And perfect timing too - my exam is tomorrow!

Cally, our orientation visits are in a couple of weeks too. Need to start getting organized and make a list... Paperwork... Uniforms... Labels... Library bag. Etc

Well I'm sitting here in my Jammies waiting for the sleep technician to come in and connect me up to the mainframe. Lol. Could be a long night.

had L's first transition at the primary school yesterday and he went really well. his school is lovely and he seemed to really enjoy it. he said to me after we left 'when i look at her, i just think she's so so gorgeous' about his spunky young teacher lol

It's so awesome that all our kids are loving school and can't wait to go. A has his first orientation day on Monday for a half day.

All these school visits = so exciting!!

AFM, sleep study was a bit of a disaster, got too much sunlight in my eyeballs driving over there so needless to say my delayed sleep phase will be apparent in the results. So i spent a couple of hours lying in the dark trying to will myself to sleep which is mot the norm for me at all (am usially out light a light). Then they wake you up at 6 am. Ugh. On the plus side there's a funny photo of me connected up to all the wires looking like I've just had a brain transplant. LOL

I hope you get some decent results MD. I suspect they would come across a lot of sleep delay with people being unable to get to sleep in an unfamiliar place.

I am not doing any more school visits with W. We did 1-2 a week last term and it turned him into a ball of stress so we are just going to try dumping him in it next year lol. Can't be much worse. He is pretty positive about it now though, saying that he will be starting with lots of his friends. I am definitely looking forward to it :)

He has reduced the licking to only occasionally now, as long as he has some alcohol wash around. He has a couple of small ones and takes one to kindy and thought all his christmas's had come at once when I let him get a 250ml pump action hand sanitizer at the supermarket the other day lol ("mum, that big bottle could fill up 5 little bottles! Now I have heaps!"). I know it is feeding into his issues about it (he thinks if he doesn't wash the germs will get in his brain and eat his cerebellum) but at least it is a lot better than filthy licking!

DH was at home today and got a taste of the morning long whinge/scream about finding a pair of pants. Nice to know it isn't saved up just for me :) Kid has issues. Most irritating new neurosis is refusal to walk on tiles when he is agitated. Makes a big song and dance and drags out a towel or something to walk on. Got to be something sensory going on. Hopefully he outgrows it. *sigh*

Oh bugger MD! would you do it again if they didn't really find anything conclusive? I imagine it's not an experience you would want to repeat though :hug:

Arte, that would be so annoying! not to mention the extra washing from dragging a towel around. but positive that hte licking has reduced to a more tolerable level. Definitely sounds like a sensory issue. If he doesn't outgrow it, maybe with a growing maturity level he might manage it in a way that isn't so obvious kwim?

Cally, what the heck is that assessment? Sounds crazy. Surely they could run it like the old thingo assessments where the classes go on like normal but one kid goes out at a time for assessment by another teacher?

Oz, cute that L loves his big school uniform. It's great you can get all the books through the school. Our school has an online ordering system so you can opt not to get certain things which is great after a couple of years when you start to get a lot of stuff left over.

Ginger, is everything ok with you today? :hug: LOL at L's spunky teacher. I remember being totally infatuated with my first teacher (or rather her 1970s perfectly straight long hair). LOL

Re the sleep study - dr told me before hand to expect at least 2 tests. If they don't find anything the next test will be a different one.

Stationery - something I need to ask the teachers about at orientation, didn't come up at all at the parent night.

MD - the assessment happens at every school, ours is unusual in that they have the kids stay home. They said they like to do it immediately so they know the ones that will be bored during Term 1 learning letters because they can already read - others do it later. They probably don't want to have to pay for 2 relief teachers for 2 days, especially when the kiddies are all brand new.

And totally ignorant question- how can you have a different sleep test? Don't you just sleep??

Cally that's an odd way of doing the best start. Only P has had it - it wasn't around for the other two and they just went to school as normal and they got a casual in to cover the class while the teacher did the assessment. K is going to public school isn't she? My kids haven't needed anything by way of books etc because they supply everything. It's only if you want them to have a pencil case with their own pencils, but that's just a pain because at that age nearly all of it ends up lost broken or stolen :/ But I do know of some larger schools where they have to buy everything and it goes into a 'pool' for rationed use in the class.

Hahah. Yeah there's a test where the technician dresses up in a monster mask and sneaks in and wakes you up and then they all **** themselves laughing when all your readings fly off the chart! :rofl:

No, really. There's a test where they hook you up to a cpap machine and keep adjusting it until they find the best level, and another daytime one where you stay there all day and they periodically make you lie down and look at if/how fast you fall asleep. And sometimes they just repeat the same test to get more info for the doctor.

Speaking of which Cally, did you get a copy of that breathing/apnea book? My copy came in at the library the other day and it's v. interesting. Your DH might want to have a look at it.

ETA - Trill: me too. I don't know if she had a PIG this time... last birth I remember they were pretty much happy posting themselves because of how relaxy and nice everything was at home :)

I don't think I could just sleep on command. I reckon I'd have to stay up half the night before to make myself able to lay down and have a sleep.

Honestly, the weirdest thing is that there is a camera on the wall LOOKING AT YOU the entire time you are there. It's a bit freaky. There's a writer here in SA who's doing this project where he and some other artistic sorts are going to be locked inside a sleep centre without natural light for 7 days, monitored, deprived of sleep, and then they have to produce artistic/creative works about the experience. Aaaah, no thanks :lol:

Baby E. milia arrived this morning!!! wahoo! she is so cute! 2 hour labour that started at midnight in earnest. she was born in the water and had a wee swim and everything. DH and Miss L cut the cord and we let Miss M snooze until this morning when she woke and has been showering her little sister in kisses ever since hahaha.
