I haven't seen Heston do giant food but I did see an episode of a show where he did an entire fairy-tale themed dinner, the highlight of which was an entire hansel & gretel-style edible HOUSE complete with see-through sugar windows! Amazing.

Arte, I'm very impressed with your quiz team's ascendency. I went to a quiz night on Fri and either we were rubbish ro the questions were rubbish. Too many baby-boomer references and not enough funky geek questions. FWIW, you might find the motivation/inspiration factor creeps back in once the kids are little more self-directing. Well, that's what I found anyway.

I'm a little bit in denial about the impending 6-ness of our September babies. Miss E is thrilled to be having a birthday soon(ish) and interrogates me most days about how many more sleeps. She's getting so big and she's my babeeeeeeee~! And yep, H is 15 (!). Unreal. Teenagerhood seems to be going ok, no terrible attitudes or anything - nothing that we haven't had all along, anyway LOL. I sometimes feel though like I'm having to be a little more of a control freak with her than I would like to be - but I have to keep reminding myself that even though she looks kind of adult-sized, her brain's not going to stop growing for a few years yet.

Cally re your sore back. I hope the physio gives you some good long-term outcomes, although the parttime lifestyle is highly recommended LOL.

I hope all the daddies had a lovely day today - DH enjoyed a gourmet breakfast and gifts of jocks without the the socks LOL, and cute handmade picture & keyring from Miss E. All good and a gorgeous day with more sunshine coming tomorrow.

Cally, I hope you can get some relief for your back. Is there some sort of brace that you can wear to correct posture?

Cass, wishing Miss L a very happy birthday! I hope she has a very fun day.

MD, glad to hear the teenage years aren't as bad as people say. I am hoping for nerdy geeks like me that would rather sit and read a book than get up to mischief. I won't hold my breath though lol. It is hard to imagine H as a 15 year old - she was just a little kid when this all started. Only a few more years at home before she ventures out into the world! Is she planning on going to uni?
Our quiz was going downhill for a while there - loads of questions that we couldn't answer at all, categories like American football/baseball etc that we had no hope in. But last week was back to more general knowledge and much more enjoyable.

Spring has arrived in full force here. Beautiful sunshine, birds singing and all that guff. I feel a busy month coming on with the trio of birthdays, big assignment, tubal op, father visiting - seems like the whole month is booked out before it has even started!

Arte, I think I have successfully trained some nerdiness into her. She has a blog nerdling in a cage if you want to check it out (she would be beyond thrilled to see a hit from nz in her analytics, it doesn't get much traffic LOL). It's not all smooth sailing, I have to pull her up every now & again but there's an underlying mutual respect & appreciation which I'm not sure all mother-daughters have.

Anyway, I really just meant to say -

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to all our SEPTEMBER KIDDIES!! *mwah*

PS September is *always* idiotically busy here too.

    Freudian typo?

I briefly checked her blog, will have a better look when I have more time. It is a bit of a mind bend to think of her as a young woman with a blog!

I had another look through the blog and I am now inspired to watch some more anime. Good timing because I have run out of my regular shows atm. I have heard Code Geass is good. Any suggestions she has are welcome - looking at fantasy/supernatural genres. In return, I know it isn't anime but one of the best series I have watched for a long time is Avatar: The Last Airbender. We are late to kindy nearly every day because I have to watch it.

Commiserations. Glad I don't live there anymore!

Been very busy the last few days. I think I have everything sorted for the party tomorrow. Few tears from W today when he finally realised (after me telling him for the last two weeks!) that it is A's party and not his.

Arte - hope the party went well. I'm going to try really hard not to look at the forecast this week - I cannot control the weather, if we end up with 10 small girls in the house, I will just have to cope!! So how are you sorting out parties etc Arte? Are they taking it in turns with one every 3 years or how are you managing?

Feeling jealous of MP's posts from USA.....

My back is feeling a bit better. Amazing what correct posture can do.... I tend to stand with a sway back, so it's mainly abour correcting that. I'm a bit over physio exercises though - 3 times a day and it's about 15-20 minutes each time. Imagine what I could do with my time when it's all over!

Cally, glad you back is feeling better. Every time I get a twinge in my back I am reminded to be thankful for my good spine health - it is so debilitating when you have back issues.
Not really sure what we are doing about parties. I prefer the idea of a fun family day, spending the money that a party would cost on an activity you wouldn't normally do. The kids don't seem to agree though lol. We have told them once every three years, but that doesn't really work out with milestone birthdays.

L, glad the party went well! Ours went well too - helium balloons took care of most of the entertainment, with a small treasure hunt as well.

I am sick today. It started just after the party and I am worried that I fed people something that made them ill! There is only one mum/son I didn't see at kindy though, so hopefully it was just me. I ended up in bed at 6.30pm last night, leaving poor DH to deal with the post party fallout by himself lol.

    hi everyone
hope all is well - we are in party season already. happy bday to all the gorgeous 6 year olds!
having an awesome time in usa - totally amazing! had a very special 6 days with my family in cleveland and am now in san diego and loving it. we rented a great house on the beach. been doing some great shopping, been to legoland (AMAZING), beach time, family time... could not be happier.
was sad to leave my great aunt but we are hoping to come back next year.
the main drama we had was n had to have a tooth extracted, he had a massive cavity. i cant believe it - i have never had even a filling! i do limit sugar and brush twice a day... dentist says it may have been a defective tooth. who knows.. anyway, he was amazing - brave and we just got it out. tooth fairy found him and he is happy. we will have to get a spacer i think when we get home.
looks like vietnam will be a goer... should have a contract later this week and prob move mid-end november. wow. will be so different.

i foud out today my perf ratig for last year at work - i did really well which equals a great bonus so i am thrilled. i have worked really hard this year.

better go - realy just wanted to say hapy bday to all the kiddies and to touch base.

    xx

Yay for anime! DD mostly watches kinda girly ones, and her anime-watching friends (all guys) like the fighty ones. I will ask her for her recommendations though. We're big on Studio Ghibli here too. Not too many of those we haven't seen. Arte I hope you're feeling better and I'm sure it wasn't anything from the party, more likely some random germs.

Miss E's birthday tomorrow, we will have a festive dinner and pressies and cake but she'll have to wait until later in the month for her PARTAY because I'm kinda having a stress breakdown right now, too many deadlines all at once & nothing I can postpone. Why is September always like this?

MP - your time o/seas sounds amazing. Congrats on your bonus!

MP, how exciting about Vietnam!! Glad your holiday is going well (dentist trip aside) and big fat woohoo for a great bonus! Happy Birthday to N - the 14th is it? - if you aren't back before then xx

MD, a very happy birthday to Miss E for tomorrow. Bummer about the deadlines

W's birthday today. Presents in the morning, then he went skiing (crappy weather but apparently the kids didn't complain at all!), then we went to the climbing wall for a bit and out for dinner when DH got home. We just did the candles in dessert thing rather than another cake. Two down, only one to go!

Selling the house is something a bit exciting, but not really entertaining for a long period of time I guess. I was planning to take the kids to Wellington for a couple of nights via hometown, but it seems city motels are very expensive so it looks like it will just be hometown. Someone at kindy just got back from Fuji and I realised I can't even imagine warm atm lol.
