Yep Em thats controlled crying, we did it with DD it did only take us one night with her thank god but we had gone through 2 months of waking every hour and I was a sobbing mess on the floor and it was the only option I had left. Even though you may not get longer sleeps out of T the benefit is that he should learn to settle himself back to sleep.
