hi Girls, just a quick one, sorry for the lack of personals.
Everything is going pretty well, E is such a delight, he has a few words such as the usual dad, bub, and finally mum, his first word outside those words are Birrr lol which is bird he just loooooooves birds, he also says Ta, only copying us and DD though, he says daja for DD her name is Georgia and this morning watching tv an ad for a car came on and he stopped to watch it and then said Car. He is a real boy loves trucks and cars and anything with wheels pretty much. He is still cruising the furniture and walking along behind things he is pushing but no standing on his own yet.
His sleep is pretty good we are starting to get a couple of longer stretches now, usually only waking up once during the night, I just have to try and get him to bed earlier, he is just like DD and likes to stay up late, but they do sleep in which is good too lol.
Funniest thing yesterday I was watching his from a distance playing in the toy room and DD has this big doll which is bigger than E and he was talking to her and trying to kiss her and of course was getting no response so he was sort of pushing on her (like you would be doing CRP or something) and grunting grrr grrr as if to say "hey you talk to me hello" lol it was so funny, he couldnt figure out why she wasnt playing with him.
Anyway hope you guys are all well and I will drop back in when things arent so damn busy, I said to DH I need a holiday - which translates to and means that he needs to take holidays at work to come home and help me lol.
-
Hey girls
How are we all??? Very quiet in here. Hope everyone is well.
X and I are off to sleep school this afternoon. Hoping it helps - we get a pretty good stretch early evening til round 11pm and then it all goes pear shaped. So I hope it helps us...
X is almost almost walking... He's standing on his own, he'll crawl a few paces, stop, stand up and take a few wobbly steps, then sit down again and go back to crawling. He's very pleased with himself!
Emma - fab av Hun!!!!! Looks great!
:grouphug:
-
coooooeeeeee hello hello hello there is an echo in here where is everyone its so quiet in here I am starting to get worried about you guys.
OP - been thinking about you, how did sleep school go, I am eager to hear.
cant believe our babies are really nearly almost 1, I have started doing Evans invites we are having a party in the park, the play area is fully enclosed so the kids are safe and there is a bbq etc, saves the mess at my house lol. Hope it doesnt rain. I have brought him one of his presents a Tonka truck its huge. Going to het him a few other things aswell.
-
It really has been quiet in here hasn’t it?
OP – How did the sleep school go? Really hope that you’ll not be able to get X’s sleep sorted so you can get a decent amount of sleep in one go.
Sal – So glad to hear that E’s getting his sleep sorted out for you.
Wow :o organising a party all ready….how very….organised….of you
AFU –
This is going to be a really big AFU section.
B got quite sick again a couple weeks back. First he got an eye infection, then he got a rash (initially the Dr. thought it might be fungal, but turns out it’s eczema) then he got laryngitis AND (just in case that wasn’t enough) he had three of his teeth coming through at the same time.
So he’s no longer a snaggletooth anymore (yes, I was actually calling him snaggletooth for a while, I know I know…I’m such a mean mummy….but all my names for him really are meant with love :) ) And the teeth things really fascinates him. He’s taken to pulling my lips back and playing with and looking at my teeth, then rubbing around in his mouth and playing with his teeth, then going back to mine, it’s almost like he’s trying to compare the feeling or is confused as to why I have more then him.
He says four words now. Bye-bye, Tano, hello and bang, still not even anything that could be remotely mistaken for mum or dad. He also blows kisses now too, which is really cute.
And he can walk on his own, but he doesn’t….which strangely enough I’m quite happy with. I almost don’t want him to walk yet, it’s like he’s growing up too fast ITMS? If there is something for him to push or surf along he’ll hold on and walk, but if there’s not he’ll get down and crawl…..EXCEPT when he’s on the grass, and that’s how I know he CAN walk, but doesn’t. He doesn’t like the way the grass feels on his knees, he’s never liked to crawl on the grass, so when we’re outside and he wants to go somewhere and there is nothing to hold onto he’ll walk to wherever he wants to go, I’ve seen him take 20-30 odd steps in one go, he’s wobbly, but he’s remarkably good at it given how much he doesn’t do it. But apart from that he’ll refuse to walk without holding on, he’ll just get down and crawl.
Finally, I need to ask you all your advice. I’ve really been avoiding the whole first birthday thing. I just don’t know how to handle it. You all know to some extent my MIL issues. I want to have a 1st birthday for B. And my mum has already said she wants to make a birthday cake for him (she makes the most fantastic cakes). But if we do anything MIL will expect to be invited and will make DH’s life a living hell if she doesn’t get invited….BUT….I don’t want her there, she makes my mother uncomfortable (she’s jealous of my mum and our, mine and DH’s, relationship with her and says nasty things and is just well….her usual self….a nasty cow). None of my friends or DH’s friends can stand her, she’s just really inappropriate, and makes them all uncomfortable (and we’d wanted to invite the ones that have kids nearish to B’s age). B doesn’t like her. But those to some extent we could potentially get around, the biggest one is that we want to invite FIL. He’s fantastic, everything that MIL isn’t and B LOVES him. Whenever poppy is around it’s all about poppy. FIL can be civil around MIL, but MIL…..well she always makes a scene. The two times I’ve ever seen the two of them together it’s ended with her screaming obscenities at him like a banshee while threatening to kill him and I know B’s birthday would not be any different. She’s not a big enough person to let the day be about B and not her. I know FIL would say to not invite him so we could avoid all the issues about her harassing DH and the scene that would ensue if she was in the same room as him. But he’s the one that should be there IYGWIM. So what do I do? How do I deal with it? Why does she have to exist???? :wall:
-
Hi ladies! Yes, we have been keeping to ourselves a lot of late haven't we? I'm at work so I don't plan to write much now either!
OP - will be interesting to hear how sleep school went. I bet X is fully walking by now!
Sal - Seems one of Travis' first non-mum or dad words is bird too! He says "buh-d" and points at the birds on the power line. Has Evan got any new ones recently?
Dr Tal - So funny that B isn't interested in walking even though he can! It must just be really scary for them, do you think?
So about your MIL - she's too awful, if I were you I'd just cut her out of my life. Easier said when it's not your own family I know!!! Did you tell us that your DH is still under her wicked witch spell? Or have his eyes been opened? Sorry I can't remember. I don't suppose two parties would work? She'd hear about the one she wasn't invited to, or know something fishy was going on? I hope you find figure out a suitable solution hun! One that is least going to upset the people you love most.
AFU - we recently resorted to cry-it-out sleep training. Took a couple of 45 minute sessions, but now it only takes 15 minutes or less of annoyed crying (as opposed to distressed crying) and he's asleep. And it has definitely helped overnight. The first three nights he woke up once, twice and once. Then he got sick and it was lots of times again for the next two weeks. Then the last two nights he slept from about 7pm to 5.45am with no wake ups the first night and one the second! I think on the first night I heard him stirring a couple of times and added blankets each time because he felt cold. When I did that last night I also tried to move him back into the middle of the cot because his limbs were sticking out through the rails but he woke up. So I brought him into our bed because it was 2.30am already.
Yayayayayayay! Hoping it continues...
-
Dr Tal - is it at all possible to have a party that she doesnt know about, if everyone doesnt like her I am sure they will be willing to keep a secret if it means she wont be there. Maybe you could even have it at someone elses place. Then just have a seperate thing, like go to a kids indoor play centre for a play and some nice food, pretend thats his party then that way after a couple of hours you can all go home and the bonus is B has had a play and you are not stuck with her at your house. If you think she may try to then go back to your house then pretend you have other arrangements such as going to another friends house for tea or something. Not sure if any of this would work just throwing ideas around. I know you will regret it if you invite her and B's 1st birthday will be ruined and you cannot get 1st birthdays back.
Em - glad that T's sleep is improving.
E is pretty good now he still wakes once usually but only takes a few moments or a drink to settle him. He has a couple of other words, Ta, Car daja which is Georgia his sisters name lol, he says dad and mum, bird of course lol. We have this ride on learning bike thing which he has mastered the art of climbing onto and I have even busted him standing on the seat holding onto the handle bars, my god I nearly died. No walking from us, lots of cruising, although he can stand not holding into anything on the trampoline of all places lol.
Anyone thinking about another baby yet? lol
-
Emma – That’s fantasic about T sleeping better. I’ll keep my :crossfingers: that it continues for you. I find B wakes up/stirs a lot too when he’s cold. I’ve gotten my mum to send me some sleep suits from over home for him (they are heaps nicer and warmer then the ones we can get here). That way it doesn’t matter if he uncovers himself as he’ll still be snugged up all nice and warm.
I’ve wondered as well it it’s scary for them when they first start walking. I think it might have something to do with confidence as well. I know the more I ‘force’ him (take him outside with me and put him on the grass) the better he gets and the more often he does it un prompted. But if I go a couple of days without taking him outside (when it rains) he goes back to not doing it at all. ITMS?
DH and his mum….well, he kinda sees her for what she is, but not totally. He knows that she’s been horrible to him and that she does things that just aren’t ‘right’ or ‘normal’ but he can’t bring himself to cut her out of his life because he thinks she’ll change and because he’s his mother. So unfortunately that means she can still make him feel miserable and put the guilt trip on him and make him feel like he’s a horrible person.
Sal – I’ve thought about trying to have a party that she doesn’t know about, but I worry a bit that she might find out. I know everyone would be willing to keep a secret, but I worry that something might slip accidentally. Although maybe I should just stop worrying so much and organize two parties, one for just her (so her, my mum….can’t really cut her out as she’s flying in from overseas and staying with us althought I know MIL will make her uncomfortable and make jabs at her all night :( , DH, B and I) and one for everyone else.
And yeah, we’re thinking/trying for another…..not that it’s going all that well. I’ve only ovulated 3 times since B was born (twice since we’ve started TTC) and AF only just came back a couple of weeks ago. Given the first time around it took us 18 months and drugs to make me ovulate, which I can’t take when I am breast feeding, I’m not holding out high hopes for number two happening any time soon.
-
Dr T - my understanding is women always get AF 14 days or so after they ovulate unless they're pregnant. Are you saying you've ovulated 3 times but only had AF once? Is that possible?
And I definitely think you should do the 2 party thing!
-
Hey all
Em - that's fantastic on T's sleeping. I hope it is continuing... It gets so cold at night now huh! Glad you guys found something that works.
Sal - sounds like E is a little chatterbox! That's heaps of words! I don't think X says that much!
Dr T - I would seriously not invite her. She sounds like she is more trouble than that is worth. Is there any way you can not invite her and deal with the fallout later?? What a stress.
Otherwise I'd be doing two parties. Sounds like the best solution.
Hey! When does your mum arrive???? Yay yay yay!
Sorry to hear about the lack of ovulation... If it makes you feel any better, I'm pretty sure I've not ovulated at all either. It'll happen hun! Eventually!! Prob not helping... Sorry.
AFU: well we survived sleep school. Didn't learn anything new really - but got the kick up the backside that I needed to try and resettle as opposed to just bringing him in with us or feeding. We had one great night since returning home where he slept 7.30pm to 6.00am without waking but all the other nights have been crummy still. Ah well - it is a process - we will get there. I hope.
Other news: I'm back to work on Monday. Boo. Three days a week but I'm not looking forward to it. At all. Ah well. The regular income will be nice.
-
Emma – yup…confusing I know. It’s actually quite common when you are still breastfeeding to not get AF but still ovulate. That’s why you tend to get a lot of oopsie babies with breastfeeding mothers. They are under the assumption that since they are breastfeeding and not getting AF that they can’t get pregnant….which in some cases is true but not in most. It all has to do with hormones. And mine were stuffed up to begin with at the best of times so I can only imagine what they are doing at the moment
OP – I’m more then happy to not invite her and deal with the fallout. Only it won’t be me dealing with it, it would be DH and he doesn’t handle it very well. She knows all the buttons to push and how to make him feel really guilty.
Mum gets here on the 30th about midday and is here for about 5 weeks. I’m really looking forward to her getting here. B LOVES to talk to her on skype and I can’t wait to see the look on both of their faces at the airport. My mum is fantastic with kids and does lots of fun and goofy stuff with them that they love I just can’t wait for B to be able to interact with her properly.
I’m not so convinced the whole ovulation thing will happen eventually/regularly without help. I have poly cystic ovaries (a bit different to poly cystic ovarian syndrome, but similar outcomes) so I never ovulated regularly to begin with…add to that the fact that DH has wonky mutant directionally challenged sperm and it makes the whole getting pregnant thing a bit difficult. I have an appointment with my FS at the end of July and he said he’d go over some options with me. Clomid would probably be the best bed, but I’m pretty sure you can’t take that while you are breastfeeding and I’m not sure I want to wean B just yet. :dunno:
Sorry to hear you didn’t learn anything new at sleep school. Maybe the kick is all you needed to get things going. I’m with you on the just bringing him into bed with you though, that’s all I ever do with B.
Sorry about going back to work. I know exactly how you feel
AFU - I think I’ll just end up doing the two party thing…maybe I’ll do hers a day before his birthday or the actual day and have the other the following weekend. She’d probably be expecting us to have the ‘real one’ the weekend of his birthday, so if she tries to trick it out of someone but it’s not happened yet there won’t be anything to say.
On the B front. Yesterday when I went to pick him up from daycare the team leader in his room was so excited and couldn’t wait to tell me that B had stood on his own for about 10 seconds without holding anything ‘for the first time’. Then she couldn’t understand why I wasn’t super excited and dying to see him doing it again. Apparently at day care he’s got them all fooled. He doesn’t push things around, walk, or stand…so I found out. They were gobsmacked when I told them that not only has he been standing without holding on to things for months, but that he surfs around EVERYWHERE at home and can walk on his own. I can’t believe my son was so sneaky about not doing anything while he’s there :o
And I have decided that I am the worst bad influence on that poor kid  I’ve taught him to splash in the tub, bang on the shower walls (they make a really funny sound and it cracks him up) bash pot lids together while I am cooking, throw balls at me (he’s got one heck of an arm! He can really peg them :o )…just to name a few. DH just shakes his head at us.
-
Hey ladies
Very quiet in here - are we all getting ready for a big influx of birthday parties??? In some cases more than 1?? Yes Dr T I am looking at you...
I have some exciting news... X has decided that walking is the best thing ever and just walks, everywhere. He won't sit still, rarely anyway! He just wants to walk. Even when DD is watching High 5 (he loves the music!) he'll cruise around in front of the TV, walking up and down. And he is so chuffed with himself. He's so cute... I just want to eat him up whenever I see him toddling about.
Toddling... I love that word. So perfectly describes the action.
We've outsourced DS's birthday party  His christening was too stressful for us and his birthday will be even bigger so we're having it at a play centre. Too easy!
We're also finally having some sporadic sleep success... Best night I've had was both kids sleeping 7.30pm - 6.30am. So awesome. Except one of my friend's drunk dialled me at 1am  Ah well! Since then he's been mostly sleeping through... Mostly. I think my returning to work (boo) has impacted both him and DD's sleeping... they have been shocking, both waking up many many times overnight, like several times an hour. Bah! Here's hoping that once they get used to me being back at work, spending time with our nanny, maybe some good sleep will return.
How's everyone else going?
-
Hi All, Hi OP,
I have exciting news too, E has decided he wants to walk too, he took one step on a couple of occasions late last week then today he took 4, then 6 then a few more, now he goes between walking and crawling so I dont think it will be long. He looks so cute. Great to see X walking too thats great. Good idea about outsourcing the party, we are having E's at the park, it will be afternoon tea and we will just take party food down there. I am really really looking forward to it. I cant believe our babies are nearly one. Been so clucky lately uh oh lol
-
LOL Sal me too, cluck cluck cluck...
I think the only reason I'm not pg is because I haven't had AF yet...
Go E!! Woo!
-
lol I have everyone trying to talk me into number 3, ooooh but the morning sickness, how I hate the morning sickness. I do love babies though lol.
-
Hi all
The time is just flying so quickly. Too quickly. I go back to work full time when B is a year old. The 4th is show day here, so back to work full time on the 5th. I am really not looking forward to it. I don’t know how I am going to bring myself to leave my little man at daycare 5 days a week
OP – how are you going back at work? I hope your little ones are starting to settle in, hopefully you’ve been able to get a couple nights of good sleep. A nanny huh? That would be good for the kids, at least they are able to stay at their own house, so a bit less of an upset then carting them off to daycare.
Should I keep my :crossfingers: for you that AF returns soon?
I had a good chuckle about you outsourcing your party  Certainly sounds like a plan. I’ve still got my head stuck in the sand a bit about the whole party thing. Why can’t DH’s mother just die already! (I sound/feel like such a horrible person saying that).
Sal – GO E! I bet he’s motoring all over the place now!
So you’re going party down at the park huh? That sounds like fun…can I come? :D
And clucky again? Join the club  Sounds like we’ve got a few of us chickens in here. Speaking of clucky…I wonder how Delph is going. Haven’t heard from her in a while and I’m pretty sure her little cookie would be quite a ways along now.
AFU – Well I’ll get the WOOHOO’s out of the way before I vent to you guys!
B is really cruising around now. He hardly ever crawls at all anymore. He’s so cute when he’s walking he gets so excited about it still. He’s just started doing this walk where he hold both arms behind him so he kinda looks like a penguin. Cracks me up. AND he dances….kinda. We went to a friends 40th on the weekend and he stood out on the dance floor the whole night just wandering around. Then occasionally he’d stop and twist his body with his arms, then he’d bounce for a bit, then do a bit of headbanging action, then go back to motoring around. He had everyone in stitches watching him.
My mum gets here in 16 days. I’m really excited about that. She’s absolutely fantastic with kids and I know her and B are going to have a blast together. She can manage to keep his attention on skype for over 40 minutes on most days :o so I can just imagine how much fun he’ll have with her in person!
So now the vent. It’s that bleep’n MIL again. Seriously…can’t she just……disappear??!! What has she done this time? She’s faked a stroke. Okay, perhaps I am a really horrible person, but I am 99% positive that she faked a stroke just as an attention ploy. DH has been spending heaps of time with his father and going fishing with him and whatnot lately, and his mother has been really $#itty about it…amongest other things (SIL and nephew moved in with her boyfriend…but that’s a whole nother story) and she’s not been getting enough attention. So last weekend she supposidly had a stroke. Mind you it was while DH was fishing. She claims she had it Saturday afternoon/evening. She supposidly called the ambulance…was supposidly in the ER all night getting tests (left a text message for DH at 4 in the morning…thankfully he was out of phone range) she sent me a text message saying she wasn’t at home so don’t bother brining B out (like I was going to). Anyway, I called the hospital (because I was going to go and check on her) and they had no record of her being admitted at all. So she was supposidly admitted to the hospital (after she called the ambulance…which I find doubtful she’d have been able to do if she really was having a stroke) at 7 at night and she reckons they released her at 8 am the next day. Now our public hospital just isn’t that efficient. I struggle to think they’d have been able to finish doing all the tests on in just over 12 hours. AND if she HAD a stroke…like she claims…woudlnt’ I struggle to think they’d have released her that quickly anyway. I would have thought they’d have kept her for a while. AND there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with her now. When DH got back from fishing, he felt sufficiently guilty, which I think way the ploy in the first place, so we all had to go out and visit. Now this was about 2 Sunday afternoon. She claims from about noon on Saturday through till whenever Saturday night that she couldn’t walk, she couldn’t talk and she couldn’t see (yet she was able to talk to call the ambulance, and see enough to send a zillion text messages to people….) Yet when we got out there she was getting around fine, talking on the phone and playing computer games….if she was as bad as what she claimed I would think she’d have some sort of residual lingering affects…..
SO she CLAIMS to have had a stroke THEN tells DH she doesn’t want us to put B in daycare anymore SHE WANTS TO WATCH HIM :o LIKE HELL WOMAN (even before the stroke there is no way I’d let you watch my baby after seeing how you treat nephew). But she tells DH now that she can’t work….because of the stroke…she wants to watch B and we can pay her !!!!?? :WTF: She’d come pick him up every day and drop him off every evening. THANKFULLY DH said no (I really didn’t want to have that fight with him). Thankfully her stroke story backfired on her with this one. As once you’ve had a stoke the likelyhood of you having another one is something like 90% (she obviously didn’t do her research too well before thinking up her stroke story). DH said that B can’t ever ride in the car with her (in case she has another stroke and looses control of the vehicle) and that until he’s old enough to call an ambulance and look after himself if she has another one, he’s not allowed to be alone with her either.
:wall:
-
:spit: Bahahhahahhahahaaha
Stupid, stupid woman!!! Why wouldn't she invent something like gastro, suspected appendicitis or the like??? Why go with a STROKE, which I am sure you are right about all the things about staying in hospital etc etc... And now she has shot herself in the foot and won't even be able to spend time alone with her grandkids.
She has some wiring loose I think Dr T.
Now putting my incredulity at her stupidity aside... If she has faked a stroke, I'm horrified. Why you would wish that upon yourself I'll never know. My great aunt had a stroke and never recovered... For her last 5yrs or so, she couldn't speak properly, walk, move around much at all actually... Her mental faculties were all there as much as we could tell but she was partially paralysed.
I'm disgusted to think of someone pretending that they have gone through something similar to my dear Aunty Roe.
Dr T - hang in there. 16 days til a grandmother who actually wants to be a grandmother will be with you. Enjoy that reunion.
-
Oh and thanks for asking about being back at work. Its going ok. I must admit - I don't envy going to full time... I'm struggling with my three days. :comfort:
Just keep your eye on the prize. My prize is a new bathroom :D That, and a less-stressed DH as the financial pressure will be much, much less on him.
What's yours???
-
My prize? A house. If I don’t go back to work full time we can’t afford the mortgage for much longer. I want the stability for B that owning gives over renting. I don’t want to ever have to worry about needing to find a new place. That and being able to go over seas periodically to see my family. I couldn’t give a rats about seeing my dad, but I miss my mum (even though she comes every year) and my brother…I’ve not seen him for nearly 5 years now…but we get to at Christmas! That’s my reward for going back to work…we’re flying home for 3 weeks!
As for MIL I’m with you. At first I kinda believed her because who on earth would make up having a stroke?? But the more I hear and see the more and more I convinced that she did make it up :o which is just….actually I can’t even think of words to describe what it is. I had a really close great aunt who had several strokes, her whole left side of her face was paralyzed after the first, and after her 4th she was basically a vegetable on the outside, but the saddest part was you could see that even though she was completely paralyzed that she still had all her wits about her, it was like she was trapped in her own body. Couldn’t move, couldn’t talk just really really sad.
I had to laugh at the look on her face though when DH told her B would never be allowed in a car with her and it would be years before he was ever left alone with her. You could almost see her working it through then trying to figure out how she could ‘un-stroke’ herself
