OMG Dr Tal, that is a big day for a little boy! He must have been so thrilled to be feeling good again!
Never mind Sal, better late than never! Right? You're not a terrible mum at all, I think everyone would forget a few things if their partner had a health scare like your DH did.
-
Hey guys!!
I'm here. I read, I just don't reply much. I'm so sorry!!
Sal - I almost forgot our 6mth jabs too. Don't feel bad! How's little E? Great weight gain, chubba bubba!
Em - how's T going? How's his weight? Feeding ok?
Dr T - wow, massive day for B but I had to have a little laugh at him just not sleeping too! Sounds like he had a whole lot to burn off...
Hiya Owens, Delph, Jessey!
AFU - we've had a rough couple of weeks - gastro followed by an ear infection followed by our first tooth, finally! I'm not getting much sleep... He just wakes constantly, the longest stretch I've gotten from him is 4hrs, usually from 7-11pm then 2-3hrly after that. So frustrating, so tiring.
That's about it for now... He's crying again so I'd better go...
-
OP - wish i lived closer so I could come and give you a break, its very hard sometimes isnt it. Sometimes just a small break helps us so much. xoxoxoxo
-
OP - Poor little X getting gastro. :( I am in the same boat as you with T's sleeping, still. A 4 hour stretch is a rare luxury these days, and if it happens it's at the start well before I can get to bed! Even 3 hours is rare these days, it's 1-2 hours now. So exhausting. So your DD wasn't like this?
AFU - Talk about the mummy of the year awards, I have now joined the My Baby Has Fallen Off the Change Table club. I took my eye off him for a brief moment while I turned around to get his nappy, and when I turned back he was half way to the ground. He didn't land straight on his head or face, thankfully, but it gave us both one heck of a fright! I can't remember exactly how he did land, it must have been on his feet or bum and then he fell back and his head hit the floor. He cried so much. Poor little guy. :(
To top off an already crappy day, he was crying all afternoon, tired but not sleeping, and I was feeling achey. Got him to sleep before 6pm (!) and over the next couple of hours he developed a fever. So I'm thinking we've both got the flu. He was waking up every hour apart from one 2 hour spell. But amazingly I gave him panadol at about 6am this morning when boob or walking/rocking was no longer helping and he was ready for the day within minutes! Don't think it's over yet, have been topping up the panadol when he gets really whingey and he's still a bit warm.
Hope everyone else is having a better weekend.
-
Oh Em, you poor thing, that must have given you such a fright! I'm surprised that hasn't happened to us TBH, X is such a wriggler!
Hope you guys are feeling better soon, the flu sounds terrible. We had a similar experience with DD one time, she was about 15mths... she had a massive HUGE tanty, screaming her lungs out, could not be comforted, after ten or so minutes, Dh offered her some panadol, she took it and 15mins later she was a completely different child. We were astonished.
Anyway, hope you guys can rest up this weekend and Dh can maybe help out a bit...
As for if my DD was like this, well, I can't really remember. I remember she was a bad sleeper... I know it took til she was about 12mths until she was regularly sleeping 7-7 ish, but she still woke up a lot... But I don't remember her being awake this much overnight.
He wakes and feeds, at least twice, if not three times... Sometimes he goes straight back to sleep but other times he just won't sleep. He's just happy to be awake. As long as he's being held. Doesn't like if I lie down in bed or on the couch... I have to be sitting upright holding him. He will doze off but as soon as I try and lie him back in the cot he's awake. So we sit and I watch TV for an hour or so and then we try again.
I remember I night-weaned DD at about 7mths. I remember it took about a month (maybe) to get her sleeping longer stretches at night... I remember it being a nasty period... But I don't remember much more than that.
So there's hope for us both, Em. Hope for me that in 4-16mths DS will be sleeping through. (I say 16mths be because as bad as DD was, at 2yo she now reliably sleeps 2+ hrs during the day and 10-12hrs at night, generally without waking...).
Hope for you, because if I can't remember the finer details of sleeping patterns of the first year or so of DD's life, maybe you will forget soon too
Sal - you are so lovely hun. Thank you.
I'm a bit of a whinger today, sorry...
-
Oh Em, you guys will be calling DHS on me soon dont worry, a few weeks ago E woke during the night for a feed, I picked him up he was still wrapped and took him to our room DH was on bed so I tucked E up against him while I went to get a bottle, E was still pretty sleepy. Next thing I hear thump and DH yelling, Oh my gosh I have never ran so fast, I bolted to the bedroom and here was E on the floor in his belly, unwrapped he had wriggled out of his wrap and all the way off the bed (which is a king size bed mind you) little bugger he just wriggles so much. He grizzled a little then gave a grin as if to say hey mum look at me I am on the floor. Meanwhile DH and I are recovering from heart attacks lol. Could have been worse.
You must have felt terrible but you have to remember you are surviving on very little sleep.
E is waking a few times in the night too, wanting feeds each time, I am lucky in one way that I can leave him in bed and he goes back to sleep after his bottle but its still tiring having to get up all the time. I really think its just their age, I remember DD doing this at the same age.
E has a red burning hot cheek today, just one cheek, he seems ok otherwise other than his runny nose from a cold - I have no idea what it could be, maybe teething but his bottom teeth are through and one top one and the other top one is nearly through but its the opposite side to the red cheek.
-
I have to say I feel so much better reading that i'm not the only one not getting much sleep atm! A is waking every 2-3hrs for a feed too. Relieved it's not just me, i'm starting to struggle with the four kids on no sleep, my patience has worn very thin :(
-
owens I take my hat off to you 4 kids what are we whinging about lol.
I think this just adds more evidence to it being related to their age, just a stage of their development, doesnt help when you tell yourself that at 3am though lol
-
Owens, I take my hat off to you as well!!! Yeah, I'd bet your patience wears a little thin...!
And I know what you mean about being secretly relieved that you're not the only one... :D
Sal - you must have died!!!
-
op - yes close to it, it was terrible, I am usually so careful, I guess I was still half asleep myself.
-
Only really quick as B is really whingy tonight...not like him
B has been waking lots too. 2-3 times a night. has been for about 2 months now. Thankfully he goes right back to sleep but a 3 hour stretch is lucky for me.
Also, I am bad in that B was only about 4 months the first time he fell off the change table :o I litrally turned my back for 2 seconds, to get a nappy out of the stacker and next thing I know there was a splat (landed belly first) and was screaming on the ground.
AND on top of that he's fallen off the bed twice....granted both times it was because he was climbing on the dog and they moved too quickly and launched him off the bed, but he fell off none the less....
-
Dr Tal I actually giggled a little at your post the part where you said "the first time he fell off the change table" I know that sounds terrible but it is like we are all confessing our sins tonight lol each popping in with our personal stories, we are a tired bunch of mummies.
-
Well here I am again... Sitting on my couch, watching rage... Been up since 1am... awesome mum that I am, I've already called him an annoying little s*** and told him I'm sick of him... I just hate it, I hate being so tired and grumpy...
-
Is that the worst you can call him OP - lol sorry you poor thing, dont feel bad about the names I have called E & DD a few choice ones too. Is there someone who can take both kiddies for you today for a while while you get some rest even if its just some time to sit and do nothing.
Thinking of you xoxo
-
Thanks Sal...
The in laws are going to take them for a bit, thank goodness...! Will try and have a rest...
-
LOL, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who has cracked it and sworn at their bub! Or had a bed/change table fall! Or have a baby who wakes up all night! The women at my adopted* mother's group are annoyed that theirs are waking up once!
OP - hope you get a nice break today!
Sal - I leave T on the bed with DH too, you just don't expect them to be so fast in the middle of the night, or that your DH won't notice!
Owens - You poor thing, I have no idea how you do it. Sometimes I feel so sleep deprived I think maybe I shouldn't be driving, I bet with 4 kids to keep safe you think similar thoughts!
Dr Tal - You have inspired hilarious visions of dogs launching babies off beds!
So last night was the first game of the season for the Lions. DH went to the game, and I watched it on TV. I decided to let T try to put himself to sleep. I read him a couple of stories in his cot, then put on the classical music CD that he often goes to sleep to in the car. It took 40 minutes, but he got there! I guess that's controlled crying right? I always thought I couldn't do it but turns out all I need is DH to leave (we feed off each others' anxiety I think!) and a real distraction (mm football players, lol). When I went to check on him after having a shower and not hearing him cry for a few minutes, he was snoring and had draped the wrap in his cot across his face. I had been hoping that if he went to sleep by himself he would sleep longer, and he kind of did, but still only 3 and a half hours. And he still woke up 3 times. I wonder if we'll be able to do sit it out tonight...
*Not sure if I mentioned I joined the mother's group of someone I met at swimming lessons. Just in case it reads like it's a group for mothers who adopted!
-
Hahahha the honesty in here this weekend is lovely.
:grouphug:
Em - yep, that's controlled crying. We're doing it too ATM. I hate it, never thought I could do it, and it doesn't work for us overnight as he wakes up DD. But this morning we did it... We'd exhausted all options and were exhausted lol, I fed him, DH tried rocking, no go. So crying in the cot it was. He only cried for about 10mins and it was really just grizzling.
 It's tough... But whatever works for you.
Love the adopted mothers group! I've adopted my sisters sort of! See them more than I see my own...
Well, We had another crummy night, as indicated by my 2am post. Handing off the kids in an hour or so. Looking forward to a break.
Have a good Sunday ladies!
-
Yep Em thats controlled crying, we did it with DD it did only take us one night with her thank god but we had gone through 2 months of waking every hour and I was a sobbing mess on the floor and it was the only option I had left. Even though you may not get longer sleeps out of T the benefit is that he should learn to settle himself back to sleep.
OP - good on you for having a break xo
