DS was born on the 7th. His my first, so its an interesting journey so far. I'm loving it!
Chody, In response to the belly buddies thread, Xavier was sleeping less before he started sleeping in these little blocks. He still has some unsettled time of nights where his up every hour or so for a few hours, but he seems to be sleeping better more so than not. I hope it doesnt get *much* worse lol.
TUP, I too cant offer much advice re the settling as Xavier sleeps for quite a while so once his awake again I know he's ready for another feed. Although my midwife did say if he wakes after 20mins or so, he may have wind that needs bringing up. If its not that though I just rock or pat his bum until he's asleep again or I just let him go to sleep himself. He rarely cries and self settles (he doesnt grizzle or cry, just lays there awake until he drifts off) a lot so for the moment its working.
I hope you can work it out soon, it must be tiring some days!
Afm, I'm feeling great this morning lol. Xavier woke about 3 times last night so I got some solid sleep. The night before the little guy was restless and woke every hour from about 4-7am, and I really felt it yesterday. So last night was heaven in comparison lol.
How long do your bubbas feed for? Xavier usually feeds for 10-15mins, with a few 20min feeds. I dont know if thats too short? I'll do a bum change during the feed and offer the other side, but he seems content with what he gets. He can feed up to every hour during the day though. I guess he's still working out his own routine.
And burping. Xavier wont burp! Its not bothering him, if it does he'll wake after 20mins of being asleep or so and let some big ones out. Or he works them out himself. But its still frustrating that he wont bring them up after a feed, I worry that it will start to bother him eventually.
And I wish I could get my blasted breastpump back together! I wouldnt mind being able to express a little once a day as my breasts have been feeling a little fuller and sore at times. Although they dont go rock hard anymore which is a bonus lol. But I cant get a one part back together, its like one piece is suddenly too big to fit into the other. So frustrating lol.

Ok, call me crazy but I miss being pregnant! Its SO WEIRD not having Xavier there with me 24/7 lol. I feel so alone when he's in bed (he sleeps in his own room atm). It doesnt seem to bother him, just me lol. Almost like I'm having separation anxiety LOL. A good friend is 18 weeks pregnant and is feeling her bubs move a lot, and I cant help but miss it all hahaha
TUP - Sorry, but I can't really offer any advice either cause Lilli has slept through the night since birth. I have a pretty strict routine cause my life would be a mess without it. I usually bath both girls (reasonably deep bath) after their dinner 6ish-6:30? (dinner at 5:30)then give Lilli a massage before dressing her & really massage her little tummy & move her legs around. This usually is enough to get HEAPS of wind up if not during the massage then afterwards as soon as I pick her up all dressed for bed. I give her a little 'top-up' feed wrap her up and put her to bed when she spits out my nipple. During her 1st week, I set my alarm for 3:30am & got up & fed her then & now she wakes at that time each night. Dh just gets up to her & puts her on my boob for me. (kind of creepy the 1st time he did it but now it's ok) both girls in bed & asleep at 7pm. During the day, I wake her about every 2-3 hours & get her to feed. She usually feeds for about 30-45 min at a time except her top-up feed which is about 20 min.
AFM - Daytona is acepting Lilli more now, not so jealous when she see's me feed Lilli. As I said, Lilli is feeding & sleeping well, so can't complain there. But I do need to ask, is everyone elses boobies still sore & fill quick? I didn't get to BF DD1 for very long, so didn't really experience this.

Arthur did 3-4 hr feeds for the first week or so. Now we are at a glorious 1-2 hrs!

Yeah I'm on the 1-2 hour feeds as well.
I've been in hossy with Matteo for the past couple of days, just got home.
He had cold and breathing issues, and gastro on top of that. Still got a dodgy bottom but the cold is clearing up.
He has just started smiling in the past few days, few and far between but still there. I thought he would probably wait until his corrected age but I guess he has had 10 weeks of us grinning at him.
He got weighed yesterday, 4.5kg or 10lb Little Chubba!
DM - Thats great that Daytona isnt as jealous of Lilli RE the boobies, mine are the same. Fill quick and get sore. I'm just glad they dont get hard anymore lol.
BF - I hope Matteo feels better soon, poor little guy. Thats great his started smiling! Xavier gives us some big cheesy ones, but we know its just wind/gas lol. Still cute though.
Afm, Had our first visit from the MCHN yesterday and she seems nice enough. I got Xavier weighed and his put on 155grms in 6 days! Little fatty. So he's now 4260kgs (9lb6).
We are also feeding every 1-2 hours during the day. At night he's every 3-4 hours. Its been suggested to me to use a dummy during the day to try and space his feeds out longer, but I'm not too keen on that. He'll figure his own routine out. I have used the dummy for the first time today though to get him off to sleep. He wanted boobie not even half hour after his 10am feed so I gave him to dummy and got him to sleep that way. Idk if I'll keep it going, I dont want him to learn when the dummy falls out he wakes and cries until its back in (which happened just before). He's been self-settling really well on his own so I would love for that to continue.
We also had our first full night of co-sleeping last night. Xavier usually sleeps in his cot in his own room, but he wet his sheets and I'd forgotten to wash the 2nd set earlier this week. So he had to sleep with us ... not that I wasnt thrilled It was SO nice ... I may just have to do it again >=D
And with that his now awake and wanting boobie lol

As for feeding times I think it takes some time for them to get into a pattern and these can change with growth spurts etc. My boy e had to wake him every 3 hours as he was born early and a sleepy baby and he was just taking his quota now he is to 31/2 to 4 hourly feeds so that isnt too bad he is putting on weight which is the main thing.
Afm: I am recovering from the csec and am getting back to normal only for the numbness in my butt which is a pain but will go over time. feeling a little useless atm but will get there. Feeling tired more than anything.

Hi ladies, just subbing. I've had an interesting time since my little man was born. He was born on the 08th Feb at 11.09am via emergency c-sect at 34+1 weeks. I only saw him for a couple of seconds when he was born then he was whisked off to the special care nursery for the remainder of my surgery. I was pushed in to see him in the SCN where I got to hold him for 5 mins before he had to go back into the incubator as he had been breathing quickly. He has been in the SCN all this time and today is the day he was finally discharged now that he is gaining weight and BFing at every feed. Felt like a long road. He weighed 2.66kg when he was born which the nurses said was a good effort for a premmie.
For feeding time the nurses have me waking him up every 3 hours and I have to pull off all his clothes to wake him up properly, then change his nappy and then if he still needs coaxing I do some physiotherapy with him. On getting him to sleep once he has finished eating I put his suit back on, burp him over my shoulder by patting his back and then rubbing his back up and down. After that I pat his bum lightly for a little bit and once I know he is asleep on my shoulder I ease him into the bassinett and then run away! LOL Today however he has been a little mixed around and is feeding every 2 hours but I don't mind. If I see him awake I check the nappy, give a cuddle and if he looks for the boob I give it to him. My main thing is him gaining weight.
For those who had c-sect, does it feel uncomfortable when you pee? Whenever I go to pee it feels like a huge tight pressure right near my left hip, sometimes its there, sometimes its barely noticeable.
DM: As strange as it sounds I'm glad my boobs feel sore LOL For a couple of days I lost my milk supply, be it stress or whatever, so i had to go on some tablets to get it back. So if my boobs are sore I know my milk is still there
BF: I can't wait to get smiles from him that aren't directly connected to the sounds emitting from his nappy LOL I just wanted to ask how you work out the corrected age? I thought I figured it out but then...blank...
Shan: I'm not too keen on the dummy either although I do have a stash of them just in case. The hospital gave me one that is supposed to help him BF but I just prefer letting him settle himself like you said. That said he was very unsettled earlier today and took us both a long time to settle so I'm not sure if my approach is working as well as I thought LOL
Hello to anyone I missed. It's been a big day for me, Chase is home for the first time and I have alot of laundry to do including many items that have been pooed/weed on during nappy changes LOL

Not much to report on from me, Miss Z has well and truly woken up from being in my tummy and my goodness she is one demanding little lady - soooo different to my first DD, so im finding it a bit disconcerting, but am managing well - she feeds like a champ and i had my 2 week nurse appt yesterday and she has gained 315grams in 1 week - i definitely have another little buddah on my hands!!
TUP - i have the same issue with DD (ie i feed her, burp etc then put her down for sleep and she just cries!) mind you, this only started on Monday, so i think she is just becoming more aware and alert to the fact that im not holding her - will be investing in an ergo baby carrier soon, because i just cannot sit and hold her
anyways, i will try to post more regularly, but if i don't i will be keeping up with whats going on in here

TUP, are you following the sleep & breastfeeding routine or just the sleep one? I've read the book and found the sleep routine and what she said about sleep interesting. A friend has used the sleep & feeding routine with her 4month old (she started it when her DD was a couple of weeks old) and has had huge success with it. I hope it works for you
Negrita, glad to hear Miss Z is doing so well! That is an incredible weight gain!
Afm, we had had a restless night last night. He woke about 9.30 or so and was awake for a little bit, then had a feed and he must have guzzled it too fast as he had a small coughing session which must have upset his tummy as he then done a huge vomit over the both of us. So at about 10pm or a bit after we both ended up in the shower. Poor little guy. I know its normal and his fine, but its still scary when they vomit so big. The shower was lovely though lol. After we got out we had more skin to skin on the bed and he has a small feed. Was lovely hahaha.
He slept well after that, was up at his usual times but then he also woke twice more after 5am. I think he may have been a little cold but could I get him to stay wrapped up and not pull his arms out to stay warm?! Nope! Lol. After the 2nd time though I put him in bed with me and we slept in until 8.45!
Anyway his just gone down for his mid-morning nap so I'm going to take this opportunity to go shower lol

Sorry I've been MIA for the past week or so....I just never find the time to get onto the computer, however I think things are settling down so hopefully I will be able to get back on more often in future.
Just a few responses:
The discussion on how often your bub is feeding - Amelia feeds every 2-3 hours during the day, but can occasionally do really long stretches at night. Some nights she wants food every 3-4 hours, some nights she will go 5-6 hours. Last night we had an amazing night and she was fed at about 9:30pm, was asleep by around 10:45 and slept til 6am - so that was 8.5 hours since the last feed!
Regarding expressing - I have been trying to express a bit during the day (when I can) and have been doing a big express each night at around 9:30 when DH feeds Amelia a bottle of EBM (I express enough for the next nights feed, although last night I managed to get a little extra). I find that Amelia settles really well after this feed. I have an electric breast pump (tommee tippee for anyone who is interested) and I have found it works really well. During the day when I express I usually get between 30-60ml at a time (at which point I stop as I don't want Amelia to not have 'enough' when she next wants food).
AFM - we've been having huge issues with vomit. Initially we thought she might have some sort of reflux as she would be screaming when I was trying to feed her and vomiting in huge amounts. We now think it's more likely a wind problem. She gets so much wind and just can't bring it up and she screams since it makes her poor little tummy so sore. It's not unusual to sit with her for 1-2 hours at a time trying to get the wind up (which sometimes results in many vomits). Anyway, DH's Mum suggested trying infacol last night (we'd also had this suggested from the lactation consultant) - apparently DH almost lived on it as a baby - and, at my wits end I went and got some and OMG, it was amazing! The burps have come up so easy and Amelia seems so much happier. The fact that she slept so well last night I feel has to do with this as often she wakes up a lot needing to be burped. Today she has wanted to feed every couple of hours (I rekon she's catching up from last night), but I don't mind, especially if she wants to sleep so well again! I will know for sure in a few days if it is the infacol helping or if it is just a cooincidence, but all I know is that today I have really enjoyed being a Mum, whereas I hate to say it, but I haven't been enjoying myself much the past couple of weeks
Anyway....gotta go put tea on before Amelia wakes up!
