Im still here! Just tired. So I CBF going on the computer to reply lol!

Lisa, I think Ayva isn't far behind Lucy! She's munching on everything in sight and is drooling like crazy! She's also rather whingy the poor mite.
She just won't let me see her mouth too see if the tooth is close! Lol

Ayva put on 310g this week! :dance: that's the biggest gain shes had since she was only 2-3 weeks old! :)

So she is exactly, perfectly average in every way now lol. In the 50th percentile for everything!

Has anyone else's bubs who are BF'ing gone abit funny with their latch sometimes? Sometimes Ayvas latch hurts a little, not all the time, and it's not that bad, just abit uncomfortable?

I'm counting my blessings atm, just about everyone around me Has been sick with some sort of flu or virus, Ayva and I are the only ones who havent had anything yet! I'm hoping it stays that way! Lol

I find some days Amber won't latch properly unless I pay careful attention to what she's doing. For some reason DH thinks it's okay to laugh when I yelp in pain... :shakehead:

I usually check in every few days, but typing with her on my lap (like now) is awkward...

We're still having nap issues and are seeing the CHN this afternoon for a weigh-in, so we'll be discussing that too. At the moment she's napping on my lap after a feed. I'm not game to move her because I know she'll wake and she has only had a 10min nap since waking at 6.30am. I tried to put her in the cradle that time, but that woke her up. :wall:

ETA: CHN arrived just after I posted - head circumference and length 50th percentile, weight up to 25th percentile (5.64kg). Wrt the napping issues, she recommended working on the morning ones and go from there. Time to do lots of reading...

Glad to see there are a few of us here still - I have had a super busy time with both kids and DH sick this past week. Anyone else noticed that us Mums don't/can't get sick? Luckily DS recovers pretty quickly from his cold which I am sure is because of BF'ing. His big sister keeps bringing viruses home with her but I guess that's what we had last winter too, lots of colds!

Feeding - My little guy def. Is looking around more and gets distracted while BF'ing which makes it interesting. He can't seem to latch on without my help still, got a mini hickey (spelling?) today where I was multitasking with my DD and couldn't get him off when he was in the wrong spot!

Hope everyone has a great weekend and that those with sick bubs are seeing some improvement very soon!!

Can I ask what time your bubs are going down at night and what time they sleep until (for a feed). My little guy is still an ordinary sleeper as he can't take big feeds so is going down at 10:30 after a dream feed, then waking anywhere fro 2:20am (last night) through to 4:45am (two nights ago).

Lairdoz - Lucinda is going through a HORRIBLE stage with her sleeping and I put it down to her teeth. She is waking every 2 hours through the night, which leaves me feeling like a zombie when I get up for the day at 6am. She goes down at 10, wakes at 12am, 2am, 4am and 6am. I find she is also wanting to feed loads more and I can easily see that she has had a growth spurt. I am hoping she will slow down on the feeds and sleep a bit more soon.

Lairdoz, Amber sleeps great at night. She'll go to bed anywhere between 7-10pm and will wake between 6-8am. Most nights she sleeps 9-10 hours. She doesn't wake for a feed during the night, although on Friday she went to bed at 7.30pm and woke for a feed at 9.30pm, but she then slept through from 10pm to 6.45pm.

The good news here is that, after 12 weeks of supplementing with formula, Amber went without formula two of the last three days! :D The only reason she had some yesterday was because DH looked after her for a few hours so I could sleep. She had been down to 1 bottle per day most days during the last fortnight (from 2-3 bottles per day), so I had been hopeful that we were heading towards not needing it any more. Of course, the big test will be to see if she continues to gain weight without it, so FX she does. :pray:

Piper was sleeping very well at night, only waking once and then going back down until morning. But then she started waking every 90 mins and taking an hour to settle each time. It was getting worse and worse. I was sick, all the kids were sick and I wasn't coping with the sleep deprivation. So I started giving her a formula bottle at bedtime and she has gone back to only waking once and being a breeze to settle. I hope I can get rid of the formula once we are all feeling better.

My poor little darling girl has a nasty cold and a bad case of conjunctivitis. I was hoping she would be able to shake it quickly because of the breastfeeding but it seems that isn't the case.

I find it interesting your bubs are getting distracted whilst feeding. I would have thought so would Piper but she's such a boobie monster she is still only focused on feeding than anything else.

Anyone's bubs rolling? Piper can roll from tummy to back but shows no interest in trying to roll from back to tummy.

Lisa - every two hours is very tough! I hope you have had a better nights sleep.

Juniper - how are your naps going? DS sleeps from 9-10 f I am lucky (we get up at 7am to start the day here) but then h fairly regularly now sleeps from 12:30-3ish so I don't mind the short nap in the morning which can sometimes be only twenty minutes. Just mentioning this because for us the morning nap is crap, rather than it being the one that sets him up for good napping during the day.

Mumof2 - conjunctivitus and a cold :( Hope you are doing OK too as it's very tough having sick kids as you well know. DS isn't rolling, however we don't do tummy time as he throws up when he's on his tummy and has a strong neck from all the sitting up we have to do to keep his milk down. He's a real kicker and mover in a way my DD wasn't which is interesting.

Hope - great news that Ayva has put on 310 grams in a week!

Hi to everyone else - loving this cool weather after what has been a VERY long dry and hot spell over here.

AFM - Last night I went out for dinner for a friends birthday and DH stayed home, fed him at 10:00pm, I got home at 12:30am and was all prepared to suffer for it (even though I didn't drink) because I knew DS would wake up - well he didn't! His first night sleeping through until 6:45am without a peep. Happy Mummy today (knowing we probably won't make it that long again now that I have put this in writing!!

Juniper - great news on Amber not needing Formula!! I can imagine how happy you must be! Hopefully she gains enough weight!

MO2B - oh no! Ayva had conjunctivitis for like 2 weeks just after she was born! :/ I hope she gets better real quick!
Ayva rolls from her tummy to her back too, has since 8 weeks, but couldn't be bothered doing it from back to tummy lol!

Lairdoz - great news that your little boy slept through! I can't wait for Ayva to do that again!

Lisa - yep I know how you feel with the sleeping! Ayva has been playing up with her sleeping too! :( I hope it doesn't last long for both of us!

AFM - like I mentioned, Ayvas sleep has been playing up, she's been abit sick, but not too badly thankfully! I've now got a cold so it sucks for me tok as the sleep could really help fix me up! :/ Shes now been waking like 3-4 times a night as opposed to once, maybe twice :(
Hopefully it won't last much longer!

How has everyones bubs been interacting with others?
Up until this week she didn't really smile at random people or like others holding her, but now she loves it! She "talks" to people, and us alot more, and she actually let's DH take her when I want a sleep-in occasionally! :) just wondering if she is on par with other bubs or abit behind?

Also, are other bubs good at holding stuff and reaching out and playing with things yet?

Gem - Thanks hun. My internet & laptop has been getting awork out lately. As I am typing (one handed of course!) Lucy is in the football hold having a feed. I hope this stage passes for you soon also.

Sorry everyone. I just had a real quick scan of the posts as we're supposed to be going out somewhere but Lucy needed a feed.
I will answer some of the questions I saw. Lucy is rolling - front to back and back to front. If we put her down on the floor she will roll her way over to the toys. She is also starting to push herself with her feet so that she caterpillers to where she wants to go when she is on her belly. Lucy is very close to being able to sit unassisted and she is trying her hardest to sit up from laying on her back. I think this will all be a while yet though. She also does hold on to things but it is more because she wants to chew them. She has a set of keys that are teethers and she will hold it to keep it in her mouth. She also holds onto her dummy. Lucy does interact with people and has for a while. She loves to have a chat to anyone near her - that is fairly often with her brother & sister in her face constantly! lol.

Me - I think I started to get mastitis. My right boob hurt like crazy for Friday and Saturday. I had a hot shower last night and expressed & massaged it. I could feel a solid lump in there that seems to be smaller today. I am sore today but it has eased a lot since yesterday. I have been trying to keep Lucy mostly on my right side and keeping her mostly in football hold so that her chin is on the lump. Fingers crossed it all works and it goes away! I was hoping for a pain free breast feeding experience! I think it started because of how I have been sleeping - in a stupid, curled up position due to me, DH, DD2 & Lucy all in the bed some nights.

Hope - Piper is a chatter, if she can't find anyone to talk to she will talk to herself. She is certainly my most chatty baby. She will also smile at anyone who will smile at her and is quite happy to be held by anyone as long as she is being held ;)

She grabs a hold of toys when she is on her playmat. But she doesn't really grab a hold of anything that I try and put in her hands. She isn't chewing on anything yet other than her hands.

I don't think she has enough playtime to be doing much more. She seems to want to be attached to my boob more than she wants to be discovering the world. It's all new to me. The boys were bottlefed and they were very interested in the world at this age but Piper seems to just want to feed most of the day still.

a quick post while Sophie is asleep. I can't believe how fast these few months have gone!

Lisa, Ouch! I hope the lump goes away, I had one a month ago and it stayed painfull for about a week.

Hope, I hope you and Avya are feeling better I love winter but hate the cold and flu's that come with it.

Lairdoz, Yay for you little man letting you have a sleep, i hope he continues to do the same thing every night.... well heres hoping! :)

AFM, I am really bummed out! I've had to put Sophie on formula because it seems that i'm drying up! (is that possible?) I've tried everything to increase the supply, I drink about 3L of water a day, I eat healthy, I've tried expressing between feeds but i only get small amounts and they seem to be getting smaller :( Mum and Nan said they had the same problem, can this be heredritry? (sp?) I still breastfeed her every feed but i still have to top it up when she finishes. ahhh i guess i'm not ment to feed her forever, i just hoped to get at least 6 months in i'm so dissapointed with my body at the moment :(

Better go she is starting to stir. Hope you all have a great day, It's raining here so not much to do maybe a movie day :)

Xavier is due to wake from a nap soon, so I'll answer some questions and get back for persies.

We're not rolling here. His done side to front once when I was cleaning his backside of poop, and he rolls onto his side when his on his back, but no rolling. He loves to sit up though, if he's in a reclined position he pulls himself forward. He's a bit top heavy lol.
He hits and grabs his toys that hang above him on his play mat, he's made his musical frog play a couple of times and you have to pull it down to start it. He loves his keys & rattle, I put them in his hand, but last night he grabbed his rattle himself.
And he has always interacted with others, he's been very alert and curious from birth. He's full of smiles for anyone lol.

With sleeping Xavier is down for the night around 9.30. We've come out of our 1-2hourly wake ups (THANKGOD!), and he's settling so much easier (as opposed to an hour when he went through his crap sleep stage). But he's still waking 2-3 times. Last night he was down at 9.30, and up at 12.30am for a feed, then 5.30 & 7am. Then he's up for the day at 8.30am.
I dont know where the 12.30am wake ups are coming from, he's done them a few times this week. But if he doesnt wake then, he wakes around 2am.
I cant help but feel that this step back in night sleep is due to him being in his own room, as it started when I moved him in there. Before that when he was in the porta-cot in our room, he was down for the night 9.30-10pm, and was waking once around 5.30 for a feed and then again at 8am. and that 5.30 feed he had started pushing back later to like 6-7am. I wish he would start sleeping like that again.

Anyway, I will be back later this arvo for persies, I can hear my washing machine finishing up!

Lisa -ouch! I hope the lump gets better very soon, and your sleeping buddies must make sleep difficult! I love that Lucy loves to chatter with her siblings. My DD is knky mildly interested in her brother, even though he smiles at her. He grabe his toys with strength niether my DH nor I can remember our DD doing!

Shan - I hope Xavier goes back to the sleeping pattern you like!

samcougar- I am sorry to hear about your milk, there are things you can do if you want to continue breastfeeding. I have crap supply as does my sister and did my Mum, so fir me Motilium has been a godsend. I know there are natural thing too you can try (Junioer used a few things I think) truth is thought that if you supplement, it reduces your supply. But I more than anyone understand how hard it is not too supplement because bubs get hungry and when you get the bub coming on and off the breast because they can't get enough it's tough!

Juniper - great news on the no formula!!

Mumof2 - I also am bring more than with my other child, and this one LOVES being on the breast. Takes so much longer to feed doesn't it.

Hi to everyone I have missed

AFM- little guy has another cold so back to waking up once a night, or every four hours. But I watched 60 minutes last might with Alisa Camplin who lost her baby boy at 10 days old in March. my DH and I cried our eyes out watching it (and my DH does NOT cry!) so I wanted to wake my son up and cuddle him so was very happy to get up and feed him. We are all so very lucky to have healthy children :)

Bec, have you tried any supplements to help with your supply? I started taking fenugreek first and saw an increase in under 24 hours. I then added motilium and saw another increase after a week. When the motilium ran out, I switched to blessed thistle and kept taking the fenugreek. The blessed thistle plus fenugreek combination seems to be as effective as the motilium plus fenugreek because I didn't notice any drop in my supply when I switched. Even so, we started supplementing when I was taking the motilium because she just hadn't gained enough weight. I just did my best to keep doing what I could to help my supply, BF as much as I could and took it all one day at a time. I honestly never thought we'd reach a point where we could stop the formula. I was sure my supply would dry up because everything I read said it would, but Amber has only had a bottle 2 of the last 5 days, and those 2 times were by choice (one because I was sleeping and the other because we were out in public), not because she needed it.

On the napping front, Friday was great! She had 3 naps - first time ever she has had more than 1 nap in a single day! Since then... bad, worse, crap! Saturday she had one nap in the afternoon, Sunday she had a really short one in the morning before we went out and then slept a little in the pram. Yesterday was a nightmare though - tried to put her down twice in the morning without success. :wall: After 6 hours of being awake she finally went to sleep on my lap during her lunchtime feed. I wasn't game to move her and she ended up sleeping 2.5 hours... She hasn't had a nap yet today either and I can't stand another day like yesterday with both of us in tears so she'll probably spend the whole day on my lap again... :redface:

We went to the CHN today - they really don't know much about much! She was asking about Losec, which is a VERY common infant medication and was tell me that was why he wasn't throwing up while he was at the appointment- even though he projectiles just before we got there) and then when she asked about any existing eye or ear issues my DH and I have which we may need to worry about, when I told her I had a lazy eye, she looked at his eyes and said they looked pretty straight so I didn't need to worry. Losec doesn't stop them chucking (I wish it did!) and lazy eye doesn't mean wandering eyes were one is faces a different direction to the other, but I also know from my DD that if your bubs eyes aren't in the same direction (not all the time, but when they are trying to focus etc) before 6 months they tell you not to worry anyway. The CHN seemed like she knew as much as my 14 year old niece knows about babies!

Anyway, enough wingeing - DS weighs in just on 6kgs and is 62 cm long, so is in the 25th percentile for both apparently, so he's in the same curve as he was when he was born which is the important thing.

So are your bubs all having routined naps during the day? I can't get Piper to nap properly at all. She has absolutely no routine. She tends to have 20 min cat naps whenever she falls asleep during the day. She sleeps ok at night though. I seem to not be able to work out her naps because her feeding is so erratic. I was able to manage flexible routines with my boys, I don't know why I am having trouble with her.

How did you get your bubs into a routine?

On another note, I bought little miss a bumbo today, she loves it! She loves being able to sit up and seeing everything around her.

Ugh... In addition to not napping, Amber decided to not sleep last night. She went to bed at 8.20pm, woke just over an hour later, went back to bed at 10.10pm after a feed and woke again at 11.30pm. She didn't go back to bed until just before 4am and woke again a 6am... She has had one nap today for about 20 mins.

I thought babies were supposed to sleep 16 hours per day? She's had about 5 hours sleep in the last 24 hours. That can't be enough for her. Surely?

I hope this doesn't last. I could handle getting up every 1-2 hours to feed her (I'd be exhausted, but far less frustrated), but if she doesn't go back to sleep at night after not going to sleep all day that's going to drive me nuts... :wall:

Anyway, to finish off what I had wanted to say last time, no rolling here. She doesn't grab toys for the most part, but there are a couple she particularly likes and does reach for, but only with her left hand. If I move toys to the other side, she ignores them instead of using her right hand. She's happy with other people. In fact, sometimes other people manage to get her to sleep after I've failed.

I think the lack of rolling probably stems from insufficient play time. On the rare days she naps we get some good play time in, but the other days she's too tired and just screams if I put her down so she just doesn't get much opportunity to learn to move.

Sorry I haven't been around in so long - it looks like I have a fair bit to catch up on! As some of you who are friends with me on facebook would know, my DH had an pretty bad accident when Amelia was 9 weeks old, which, to keep things brief, meant that I was basically having to care for a baby and my DH as he was in no shape to do anything (thus no time to get on here). Over the past few days he has only just been able to pick up Amelia for the first time since the accident (he has been able to 'hold' her previous to this if I lay her in his arms but only for short periods) and has been able to change a couple of nappies too! So basically, for the past 9 weeks I have felt like a single parent to TWO kids (Amelia and DH). Anyway, things are starting to look up, although it will be a while until he is actually 'fixed' for good.

Amelia is doing pretty well despite all this. From a quick browse of the posts above I see you have been talking about what your babies can 'do'. Amelia started rolling from front to back at 12 weeks and did it pretty often (i.e. a few times a day) for about 3 weeks but hasn't done it at all over the past few weeks.....don't know if this is normal or not.....now she likes to try to 'move' when she's on her belly but of course she is not strong enough to and gets frustrated. She is learning to sit unassisted (she actually holds herself up like a gorilla with her arms on the floor lol) and can grab toys and occasionally change hands with them.

Feeding wise, I have started supplementing with a bit of formula later in the day. Amelia was really unsettled for a few weeks and stopped sleeping well and just seemed to be hungry after feeding so I gave her 100ml after her last feed and she slept through the night with no night feeds (i.e. from going to bed at 9:30ish until waking at 7-8am!!!). This has happened everynight for 2 weeks now!!

During the day I just can't get her to sleep though. I know I shouldn't complain as she sleeps so well at night, but I sometimes really wish she would nap for longer than 40 mins at a time. During the day she is basically awake for 1.5-2 hours and then gets tired and sleeps for 40 mins and this continues all day long. How does this compare to all of you?
