Babies born~ February 1st-15th 2011 #1

MO2B - im the same! Ayva keeps waking up just as i get on the computer to check BB and FB! lol hence why i'm always on my phone now!

Ayva had a growth spurt this week! the little bean grew 3cm in one week! :O no wonder shes been so unsettled :( she's now just on 5kg, her head circ. is 40cm and she is 59cm long! she's on the small side, but she's following the correct curves growth wise (except head circ., her body needs to catch up! lol!)

We've had an interesting couple weeks! Ayva rolled from front to back for the first time when she was just over 8 weeks old! :) and she does it whenever shes on her belly now when she's had enough of being on there LOL! we call it her barrell rolls because she just throws herself over :lol: she has the most gorgeous big blue eyes now too! i'm hoping they stay that way too

DH has also got into Ambulance of NSW to be a paramedic too!! we are so incredibly happy!! we werent expecting to find out for another 3-4 weeks or so whether he passed or not, but we found out only about 3 days later! :dance: :leap:
We are very happy with how Ayva is now sleeping :) she usually crashes around 7.30 or so, then wakes again for a feed anywhere between 9.30-11pm and then wakes between 4am-7am for her next feed, then again about 3-4 hours later and will finally rise when we get up around 11am or so.. we feel very lucky!
but the poor bubba has reflux :( during the day she only catnaps, and has usually one screaming fit during the day where her pain is seemingly at its worst. its so heartbreaking to hear her crying like that... we are using naturopath meds, and they seem to help, and we also have gaviscon infant too for when nothing else seems to work, but we're seeing a Paed on the 5th may to see whether he actually thinks its reflux or not :(

It's DH & I's 2nd Anniversary this Monday! I've said to DH he will organise our outing this year, as i'm sick of always doing it and never getting a surprise.. so we'll see what he's come up with.. if anything! lol!


TUP - i've noticed the same thing with my ticker, when she was 8 weeks, it said 8 weeks, not 2 months, but i worked out that seemingly most tickers will change it to "X is 1 month old" when it gets to the actual date of the month that bubs was born, i.e. Ayva was born on the 7th, so it said she was 2 months on the 7th, but 8 weeks old on the monday prior to that, ITMS?

M+M - yep, i'm definitely the same with the crappy skin! i've been having pimples alot but i have always had a few, but i just got used to not having any during pregnancy! lol, why cant it just stay nice huh?

Congrats Hope on the new job! That's great news.

Just a quick one to say I hope you all have a great Easter with your newbies. I am really looking forward to our DD waking up to Easter eggs and having an easter egg hunt with her cousins. The little guy is still waking for feeds every 2.3-3.5 hours every night, slowly driving me insane as I have a cough at the moment which means it takes me about an hour to get to sleep, just in time to be woken up again....

Oh wow its been a couple of weeks since I last posted, I've been so slack. I do read along and mean to reply but I forget half the time lol. I'm going to make more of an effort to post xD

Hope, congrats to your DH!!! Thats fantastic news! And Ayva is just thriving, you should be so proud! Thats a shame she may have reflux, I hope the paed can give you some good advice about it. And her sleeping is awesome! What a clever girl rolling form back to front! Xavier rolls onto his side and when on his tummy looks like he could flip over, but he hasnt quite got there yet.


Afm, We had a CHN appointment on the 14th and Xavier weighed in at 5.81kgs! He is now 61.5cm long and HC 40.5cm. At birth he was 4.06kgs, 53cm & HC 37cm, he's growing so fast! Makes me sad how fast it all going by lol.
He still catnaps during the day, but I've bought The No Cry Nap Solution as an ebook so hopefully come next week after Easter we can try and sort them out. He sleeps awesomely at night though so I cant complain. Down usually at 9.30pm, a feed around 4am & 8am and then up for the day at 9-9.30am. And at least with his day sleeps I know when abouts he will want a sleep. He has one at 10.30am, and then he's awake around 1.5-2hrs before he shows tired signs. Sometimes sooner if he sleeps shorter than 30mins and I cant resettle him.

Where do all your bubs sleep, in your room or their own?
X has been in our room since he was 2 weeks old as I didnt like him being "so far away" in his own room lol. But his been in the portcot and I dont want to use it for the long term. So I went to pull his cot apart to squeeze it in our room (it wont really fit but I was going to try and make it), but I thought I will give him a go in his own room the next few nights and see how *I* go LOL.

We're off to my mums tomorrow for Easter as DP has to work so I dont want to be stuck in the house alone like every other day lol. I bought him an bunny suit today (lol only to be worn once tomorrow. But he's my first so I can do what I want I say LOL), so I'm going to deck him out in it tomorrow at mums and put some eggs around him and take some Easter photos with her snazzy camera. Bahahaha poor kid.

Shan from seeing your photos on Facebook, we bought the same bunny outfit for Ayva! Isn't it gorgeous! lol! we've been putting it on her despite Easter being over, we just think its cute and can still work after easter.. well, im trying to tell myself that anyway lol

DH & I co-sleep with Ayva, DH was pretty adamant on it, because if his mum hadnt done it when he was a baby, he would have died, as he had croup and actually stopped breathing and went blue, and the only reason his mum saved him was because she couldnt see him breathing!
So needless to say we thought it was the best decision for us, plus it helps that I dont have too get up to feed her :lol:

How did YOU go with Xavier sleeping on his own? lol

We will be going to the Easter show tomorrow, and before that hopefully getting Ayva weighed and measured as it's been 2 weeks :/ lol! and about 3 weeks since she was measured! lol! im dying to know how much bigger she is now, as i tried to measure her and i have a feeling it wasnt as accurate as the doctor's ones lol

I dont think Ayva had reflux after all, looking back now, and after consulting some people on BB, we figured she likely went through a wonder week, as she was just SOOOOOOOOOOO clingy! she wouldnt have ANYONE but me! and poor mum jsut wanted a break :/ lol she was also just cranky and wanted to feed but wouldnt feed, etc. basically all her unusual symptoms matched that of the 11.5 week "wonder week" and she snapped out of it overnight on Saturday! she let DH hold her while i made breakfast and played guitar hero for awhile! lol! i think it also may have had something to do with the fact she hadn't pooed in like 4 days... i know i'd be crabby too if i hadn't pooed in that long! lol! and she did a whopper on Saturday morning lol enough so that she needed a bath to clean her up! lol!

To broach the subject, how has everyone found DTD? have some of you done it yet?

Sadly, DH & I have not yet dtd. I am sooooooooooooo worried about falling pregnant again as DH has yet to have his sperm count done. He had a vascetomy done just before Christmas. I want to and we go to but my brain just stops me. This is the longest we have gone without dtd in our entire relationship. I am so lucky my DH is understanding and sweet as he is willing to wait! What a man!! :) We also co sleep, every night with Lucy and some nights with DD2 also. That has made dtd impossible.

I think Lucy is on a wonder week this week. She is feeding every 2 hours and has gained 500g in 10 days!! My hungry, growing bubba girl. She now weighs 6kgs exactly. Crazy stuff!!! It makes me a bit proud though as my other children have usually either had EBM bottles or been comp fed formula by now due to poor weight gains but Lucy is going great on breastfeeds alone. Finally, I have one successful breast feeding relationship :)

We're going to Sydney on Thursday for a quick trip. DH, DD1 & DS2 are going to see Justin Bieber - I won the right to not go! lol - and I am going to meet my cousins new little bubba girl who will be almost 2 weeks old. I'm so excited about meeting her little bub and seeing some of my family. On the Friday we're taking the kids to the aquarium so DD2 can see 'Nemo' before heading home again.

Oh how exciting lisa! it'd be great if some of the people in Sydney could do a meet-up! i know i'd be up for it! lol :)

Great job on being able to have such a successful breastfeeding relationship with Lucy! I just love those feeding times, i love the way she looks at me, and that she's so content being at my breast drinking away :) i have yet to see how much ayva has put on.. she feels a ton heavier and looks so much bigger! lol!

DH & I have been DTD since about 3.5 weeks post baby, on and off, I'm not as scared we will fall pregnant, as it took us like 5 years before I fell, and that was because we decided to let "whatever happens, happen" as we didnt know how long it would take me to fall! (little did we know it would be the first month.. :lol:) TBH, some people say they found it worse after baby, i've found it to be better! lol, maybe its because i'm relishing it more as its harder to get a chance with Ayva, whereas before it was whenever we wanted to :lol:

Sophie sleeps in the same room as us in her bassinet, i would love to co-sleep but i'm petrified DH will roll on her, he's such a heavy sleeper and he's hard to wake up when he's sound asleep.

We have been DTD since about 4 weeks post baby and i agree it's much better, i think before we fell pregnant we were trying so hard it was more like a chore. Now it's more injoyable rather than 'Ok it's time lets go' lol

Oh bugger she just woke up, I'll have to catch up more later. I hope you all had a great easter, I'm still upset i can't have chocolate. But i did sneek a little bit on sunday and she wasn't too bad :)

Gem - I would love to do a meet up, but unfortunately it isn't going to be able to be this time as we're heading down tomorrow morning, spending the day with relatives who haven't met Anelise or Lucinda yet, then the concert is in the evening and we head off to the aquarium friday morning and go home from there. If there is a meet up organised for down there in the future I will definitely try my hardest to go. I am only 2-3 hours away depending on traffic :)

Gem - Lol I love the bunny suit! Poor Xavier wasnt overly thrilled with it though hahaha.
And I went well with him going into his own room! Baha. He's still in there, his sleep patterns havent changed thankfully. He is staying asleep better though, as DP & I arent stirring him with being too noisy when we go to bed. He comes in our bed after his 2nd feed of a morning though. Its so cute, he snuggles right in and has this happy little smile on his face when he goes to sleep it melts my heart.
Its funny you mention the wonder week, Xavier went through about 3 days over the weekend/early this week of not wanting to sleep, waking hourly overnight to feed and being very clingy and wanting to be in my arms, and I had no idea what was going on. It sounds now like a wonder week seeing as Ayva went through something similar and they're the same age.


DTD, we started doing it at 4 weeks when my bleeding had stopped. Its just the same as before, perhaps a bit better when I'm not tired lol. A couple of our fav positions are out of bounds though as they make me a little sore around my scar area. Even though I'm exclusively breastfeeding, I'm starting the mini-pill tomorrow. I do NOT want to fall pregnant again just yet lol. I fell pregnant the first month we decided to "let whatever happens, happen", so I know we're both pretty fertile lol. Not looking forward to that bringing AF back, but its the sacrifice I need to make I guess to diminish our chances even more of falling pregnant.
I had a freakout today about "what if" I'm pregnant again already, so got a pregnancy test to be sure LOL. BFN THANKFULLY! Hahahahaha!


We spent the day walking around town, I had Xavier sitting up in the pram and he loved being able to look around. I went and looked into mum & baby yoga classes, and I'm hoping to start them next week if money will allow! I also emailed about a mum & bub fitness group that has meets at the local lake. If they have a spot open that'll be two things a week I can get out the house for. Which is good, I'm over sitting around at home, X is almost 3months old its about time I got out and done something. I also went and looked at cross-trainers and will be purchasing one likely on friday. I'm spending the rest of this week writing up healthy meal plans so come next week I'm jumping on the healthy bandwagon!

Xavier isnt weighed again until his 3 month check next month, and I cant wait to see how much his put on. Xavier has started this thing of clamping down really hard on my nipple, and omg it hurts haha. I shudder to think of how painful it will be when he gets teeth lol

Shan - Lol at being pretty fertile! I sooooooooooooooo get that... can you tell? ;)
Actually, DS1 & DD1 are to my ex. DH & I tried 18 months for Noah. We finally got a BFP the weekend before we got married. I then fell pregnant 3 months after losing him and in total, I have been pregnant to my DH 6 times! Most of those were 1 time unprotected in the month. Hence my apprehension to do anything until I am 100% sure everything is fine. I'm so freaked out I don't trust anything else to work! lol

3 months post baby must be the time where everyone feels like getting on the healthy band wagon. I am planning to get either a treadmill or cross trainer for mothers day and start getting healthy. I am also looking to start weight watchers as they have a breast feeding plan!! :) I have 8 pregnancies I need to work off ;) lol

Anyway, as I'm sure you can all tell, it is insanely late (or early!) here and we're heading off to Sydney soon. ARGH!!! Lucinda has been driving me batty today! I think if she hasn't slowed down on the feeds over the next few days it might be time to see a Dr or something as she is feeding pretty much non stop. A lot of it is for comfort but mostly she is feeding. I know I have a great supply as I can feel it and she is boob drunk at the end, but she ends up wanting to be back on the boob an hour or so later. It feels like the first week all over again!!!
Speaking of which, my little Miss is waking now.

We have just recently DTD, however, as per my signature, I don't really worry about contraception! I have never been pregnant naturally, so any conception that didn't cost me $20,000 would be welcomed!. I just snapped at my DD after she broke her bunnikins egg cup. Ridiculous really, but stress and over tiredness does it to you. My DH is off having a massage, he deserves it but I hate the fact I can only do things after 7 when the kids go to bed but he do things whenever he wants. My little guy cries a lot as he's constantly catnapping. Still waking every 2-3 hours at night.

Lairdoz - big hugs hun. I have some of those days here myself so I completely understand how you're feeling. I hope the crying stage ends soon for you and you can enjoy some quieter times and get some rest :hug:

AFM - I was planning to go out to Mothercare today but now it is pouring down rain. Spending close to an hour preparing the 3 youngest kids in order to be able to leave the house sucks now that it is pouring rain!! lol. Isn't that always the way?!

We haven't dtd yet, we tried but I found it really painful for some reason so it didn't happen. I am also worried about getting pregnant again. I need to find a good form of contraception, the pill makes me sick and my doc says I'm not a good candidate for the mirena because I have never had a natural birth. So I think that's partly the reason I am so reluctant to dtd. lol.

Piper finally got her needles yesterday... a little late but it took me 3 weeks to get an appointment with the GP. She was very very cranky yesterday but seems to be back to her old self today. She weighs 6.4kg and is 62cm long so is doing very well I was told.

They did however say that because her weight gains are so good I would be very unlikely to find a surgeon who will be willing to even look at her tie so the issues we are having with feeding I may just have to put up with and see if she grows out of.

I can't belive she is 3 months old next week, time is flying. It makes her my longest breastfed baby. Both the boys were nearly entirely formula fed by now.

For all the breastfeeding mumma's out there how do you manage your bub's day. I have never breastfed for so long. With the boys at this age they would have a bottle, have a play, have a sleep. But dd seems to want to suck on me like every half an hour. I think she is using me as a dummy. She feeds at least once every hour, all day long. But then goes a 6-7hr stretch at night??? How do I get her to stretch the day feeds out. It's driving me crazy this constant feeding, especially because it hurts. But I find when she gets upset the only way to calm her down is offer the boob. Do your bub's feed all day or are they going a little while between feeds now??

I've had a read through the earlier posts and I wish I had joined this group earlier! It's amazing how similar some of our challenges have been. In particular the lack of day sleeps - I'm the only one in my mother's group who has had that problem and yet there's a few of us here!

Since I've been able to read through your stories, I'll give you a quick run down on us...

We had weight issues from the very beginning. She lost 11% of her birthweight by day 3 and then gained very slowly for weeks (200g total in the first 4 weeks) in spite of feeding CONSTANTLY. We ended up seeing the paed at 4.5wks and finally caved on his recommendation to start supplementing with formula (he had previously suggested it during phone consultations). The first week we tried to keep it to just 1 bottle per day, but she actually gained less that week than the week before (90g, compared to 100g the week before :shakehead:) so we started giving her as much as she wanted and she finally regained her birthweight by 6wks. She usually has 2-3 bottles per day (of between 60-240ml per bottle and usually 300-360ml per day). She has always attached well and doesn't have reflux, so her slow gain is assumed to be due to me having low supply. Thankfully we seem to be making the combination feeding work as I really want to BF for 12 months if we can. She's still an inefficient feeder though, with most feeds being at least 20 mins on each breast (and usually wanting both breasts, sometimes twice). When she has had both twice and is still hungry, that's when we give her a bottle.

Amber sleeps great at night (usually 8-10 hours without waking), but terribly during the day. She will usually only nap when being held. Putting her down usually wakes her up. I keep trying, and I had one week where I managed to put her down for a nap 4 times (in the week), but in the weeks since then I've only succeeded once... When I tried today we both ended up in tears (I was tired and really wanting a nap myself). But as I type she's happily sleeping on my lap... :rolleyes: For two hours... Does anyone else HATE their feeding chair because they spend so much time in it? Needless to say, getting chores done around the house is nigh on impossible...

We haven't dtd yet. To be honest, I have always found it uncomfortable (and sometimes outright painful), so I had been looking forward to everything getting stretched by the birth... only to end up with a c/s, so now I'm just plain scared to dtd. I'm not worried about falling pg (like Lairdoz, I think it would be great to get a cheaper BFP!!), just worried about how much it will hurt. Amber sleeps in our rooms, so for now I'm glad to use her as an excuse to avoid it... :redface:

:redface: We have dtd but more b/c I felt bad it had been so long.. Last time was 19wks.. It is honestly for me, the last thing I feel like when Im pregnant and now Im so tired if Im in bed I just want to sleep!! Also I don't know what I'd do if I fell pregnant.. This is my last, i love all my kids, & this is my first stress free (to a degree) baby, the other two for different reasons where so hard and Im done. Hubby is waiting to get the snip but unable to get time off work at the moment. I'm on the mini pill but don't really trust it so really the best way to not get knocked up is to not do it!! :hug: I also have pain when dtd which I didn't have previously so not sure what that's about! THe other wkend I had a few wines to try and relax and that was a bit better.. :tmi: I also then express and tip the milk out until my mid morning feed so I'm not giving her EBM w BAC...

Anyhoo, over Easter we went to visit parents in law and I shared a room w bub, erg I don't know how people co sleep!! I would love to but even in the same room, I am such a light sleeper I kept waking up long before she did. At home I have her in a room down the hall, closed door & still hear her before she even starts crying in the night! Last night she slept 2300 - 5:30am so her longest and Im hoping this becomes her norm.. I struggle to function durning the day waking up through the night.

I am also someone who by choice combines feeding types. I express at 2230 & give her EBM at 2300 (dreamfeed). Then when she wakes up through the night, whatever time I give her formula in the hope it will help her sleep longer and express after. I do this b/c it's quicker than bf OMG some days she is on for an hour & still sucking & I know how much she has had. So if she is unsettled I know if its b/c she is hungry or just being a baby! lol

Anyhoo, bla bla... Sorry bit bored wtg to do the dream feed.

mumof2boys, we feed about 5-6 times a day at about 7am, 10.30am, 2pm, 5.30pm and 9pm both side each time. She is usually exactly 3 hrs apart of a day and then sleeps for about 9hrs of a night. Her routine is feed, play, sleep although her sleep of a day are only 45mins. She has a bath after the 5.30 feed. She has had this routine since she was about 2 weeks old so i think we were very fortunate with her. Sophie is almost exactly the same size as Piper! she is 6.4kg and 63cm! Do you have trouble fitting her in clothes? I have to put Sophie in 00 because her legs are so long! I have all of these beautiful 000's and she cant wear them!

Sophie was pulling of the boob at every feed and screaming, she was extreemly unsettled of a day and wouldn't go down very well of a night. This happened for 4 days so we decided to take her to the Drs. I couldn't get in to see my Gp so all we got was the relief Dr.. What a waste of $62!!! She was hopeless, i explained her symptoms so she got out her medical books to look it up! :o I said i think it might be reflux. no no no she said not reflux. She asked how often she pooed, i told her once or twice a week, she then asked me if that was normal for a baby!!! Seriously shes the Dr! So she decides to measure her, Sophie was kicking her legs around and wouldn't keep still, so she got a measurement of 81cm!! Obviously she thought that was ok because she didn't measure again. Then she went and got the scales and put them on the soft bed and put her on them, the scales were leaning over backwards and almost falling over and she got 5.6kg. so Sophie is 81cm and 5.6kg according to her!! Then she says do you have your blue book and i forgot it, so she told me to go home and look at it and see if these measurements were right! So then she decides it is reflux and she rang the chemist to see if there is anything i can give her!!! at that point i got up and walked out! I got home and weighed and measured her to get 63cm and 6.4kg :shakehead: I went to a friends 1year old's birthday party and was explaining to her what happened and she told me to give her 'Infants Friend' and now she's a perfectly settled and happy bub. :rolleyes:

Hi Juniper - great to see you! I am sorry to hear about your feeding issues - my sister had exactly the same thing ( my nephew didn't put on weight for over a month at three months) but as my sister herself was the same as a baby, she persisted against medical advice. It was a very tough time for her though so I am glad you are both doing better. Have you tried motililium to keep your milk supply up? I have attachment problems on one side and take motilium as I still want to breast feed for as long as I can too.

My little guy woke up twice screaming last night, so I was up at 1:50am and 5:15am before we started the day at 7am. He hardly ate anything when he got up as he was very refluxy. I was so excited after two days of only one wake-up at 3:00am, but it wasn't to be!

Samcougar - that doctor is appalling - you really should let the surgery know as that us criminal to charge you anything!

I was going to try and write more, but the little guy has just woken up, he has had one hour and 45 minutes sleep, albeit he woke screaming but I left him to self settle which he did. Sorry I didn't get through all the persies I hoped to!
