Hope, I'm sorry your having feeding issues hun Its fantastic that your trying to find a solution, I hope the LC can give you some great advice. And I agree with M+M, dont beat yourself up too much. Your doing everything you can to continue BF, its not like your just easily giving up on it. And if you do need to bottle feed, its great that you can still give her breastmilk
M+M, I suck at hand expressing haha. I got about 20mls the other day doing it, but I think I lost about the same running down my boob because I couldnt position the bottle properly lol. I have a cheap manual pump from kmart now, and yesterday I was able to get almost 50mls from one breast after a feed from that side. Its pretty awesome for a manual, I wish I could afford an electric though lol.
Lisa, Great to hear Lucy is doing well I find the same with co-sleeping, I dont get such a great sleep from having to stay on the one side all night. I do love it though lol
Afm, Xavier had such an awesome sleep last night. He went down about 9.30 after a small feed, and didnt wake until 2.30! Quick feed, then he was down again until 6. He had a massive feed then and came back to bed with me as he got the hiccups and was getting a little annoyed with them lol. We then slept in until 8.30. I feel great this morning lol.
His starting to get a little fussy in the evenings. Its nothing bad, he just **** farts around when feeding. Goes on, then off, and on, then off etc lol. He'll get frustrated and annoyed, and then suddenly he's on properly and fine lol. Last night at the 2am feed he would not attach properly and was starting to get really upset so I had to put him in the football hold. Worked a charm lol.
And he'll have periods where he wants to comfort suck. Which I've tried to give him a dummy for but he wont take it LOL! He'll spit it out or gag on it. I dont know why he suddenly wont take one (his had one twice now and took them fine then), but I'm not going to force it. Offer every now and then, he may take it when he gets a bit older. It'd just be a little handy when he wants to comfort suck.
I had to buy a new breast pump yesterday. I kind of ruined the first one I bought, by boiling a piece I wasnt suppose to and it bent all out of shape Hahaha. I need to express a little for comfort atm. Does anyone know if you can mix breastmilk expressed at different times? Like can I put some that I've expressed today with the amount I expressed yesterday? Lol thats probably a stupid question, but I will play the NEWBIE card
Oooooooooo DP's family have annoyed the crap out of us. MIL is in a mental health hospital as she has bad depression, and we're expected to drive over 3hrs (its 3hrs WITHOUT a baby in tow) to see her for her birthday this wed or thurs. We werent even asked! Just told we were going. SIL rang DP "Can you make it to where mum is for her birthday?" DP: "I dont think so" SIL:"Well you have to as FIL told her you were coming and she's now told everybody".
SO PO'ed! We're not going though. I am not comfortable taking my 2week old newborn to a place where I dont know who could be sick and have to have a bunch of random strangers goo-ing and gaa-ing over him. Luckily DP feels the same. MIL wont take the news well that we aren't going. But if they cant understand that its a lot to ask of a 2 week old baby to travel over 6 hours in a car in ONE day and be fine with being smothered by MIL and her random friends, then that isnt my problem.
Haha sorry for the rant, they have just really bugged me!

We had an appointment today with the MCHN, and Xavier power chucked all over her He had only finished a feed 15minutes before we got there, and as soon as we got in the door he chucked over me. So she took him so I could clean myself up, and he kept going all over her hahaha. I felt so bad!
We then weighed him, and in 11 days since he was last weighed his put on 650grms! Little piggy!! He's also grown 3cm in length and his head circumference has grown a cm. So proud of my little boy!
MCHN also asked if he had started smiling a little yet, and he has! He smiles when he's got wind or needs to fart, but he had neither of those and done it a couple of times when I started talking silly at him. I managed to grab it on camera too. Soooo cute!
Anyway he's down for a nap atm so I'm going to run and make some lunch while I have the chance lol
Cakestar, my 3.5 year old doesn't listen very well and is terrible at waiting for his turn. And he's been a big brother for quite some time. It truly is the age for it.
For the listening I have to make sure he has eye contact with me, otherwise he doesn't hear a word that I say. The waiting, if he starts to whine I make him wait longer. He's slowly learning.
We also do 123 magic discipline here and it seems to work. 3yo are tough I've found... much worse than 2.
Callan is my first (DS I guess), so big learning curve all around. Also I ended up with an emergency caesar - not ideal! But 3 weeks later I'm feeling much better, and DS is a very settled baby with generally cheerful disposition, so we are very lucky!

Shan - how gorgeous that Xavier was full of smiles for daddy! So special isn't it??
Ayva is very similar to Xavier in regards to sleeping, she sleeps VERY well at night, but not as much during the day, lol must be something about being born on the same day
AFM - things have been going great! I feel so privileged that DH has been home this whole time (even though it is because technically he has no job :/) it has made life so much easier, and has let both of them bond so well, it's so gorgeous watching them together
She is now feeding EXCELLENTLY! she is gaining weight perfectly, and is now 1kg above her birthweight I am so incredibly relieved she is now feeding with no issues, it's such an enormous relief to what we went through!
She is also a great sleeper too, she gives us a 6-7 (sometimes 8) hour stretch at night, and wakes up between 4-6am and then sleeps again til around 9-11 depending what time she wakes up earlier.
But like Shan, she hates sleeping during the day, lol, she fights it so much and just ends up catnapping normally, poor sod lol.
Apparently she has very strong neck muscles! She's easily holding her head up now, I sit her up to burp her, and I dont need to hold her head at all! Just her back! And she loves holding herself up when she's on my chest over my shoulder, we saw the CHN and she was amazed at how strong she is!
(just a proud mummy moment there, sorry )
I can't believe how fast time is flying! Our babies are all over 1 month old now! How crazy!
How is everyones bubbas doing in relation to tummy time and smiles? We have actually never put Ayva on her belly, but she is nearly always sitting up and laying vertically on my chest (ITMS?) and yet she seems to be very strong?
Gem - That's technically tummy time so you're doing well hun. Lucinda has tummy time every day and like Ayva, she is really strong and holds her head real well.
Quick question for everyone - Does anyone else have a baby that can not stay in their basinette/cradle/cot? I can't put Lucinda down for even 5 minutes as she turns herself around (spins helicopter style) so her feet end up where her head was when I put her down, either that or she spins and gets arms & legs stuck in the gaps and can't move anymore. I'm over it so much! I'm not bothered by it for sleep time as she co sleeps with us, but for a 5 minute loo break with her away from Anelise's need to explore Lucinda's eyes/nose/mouth/ears whatever as Anelise can't reach in to the cradle.
Lisa that is so cute.... Spinning herself around. Arty is wriggle worm but not that bad!!!! It's pretty cute though.
Gem you are so lucky to have hubby home. My girl works from home some days and has a great bond with our boy.
She takes him to the markets every Saturday to buy our fruit and vege, so mummy gets a 3 hour break.

Arthur is slightly older than your babies. He's 8 weeks this Sunday.
He started totally smiling yesterday. He's had a few one o*** but then yesterday, it was like the switch flipped and we can pretty much get him to smile on cue. I reckon probably, 15 - 20 times and some were huge open mouth smiles leading into laughs. He giggles in his sleep which is so cute.
It seems we all have super babies! Arthur has been holding his head up since birth, now needs no real support at all.
We are so in love.
I've just had a cousin arrive at mums house. She is 15 and her baby boy is the same age as my baby. She had the baby taken off her and is with a carer, as she has no support from her drunken family and has no where to go. She was in a refuge and was able to have overnight sleep overs with the baby but she kept breaking the rules. So she was kicked out.
She is now staying with my mum so that she can get back into the refuge.
There is a big hole in the system though because she can't get any assistance. She can't get the baby bonus or any financial help. It's awful. Even being aboriginal. She gets no help!
I'm taking her to the salon today to have her hair done. Her baby is smaller than Arthur so I will let her go through all his clothes and she can pick some out for her boy. Some of our stuff still has tags on it!
Poor bugger. I can't imagine having your body recovering from the birth and not having your baby and no where to live!
Hopefully she will see my 2nd year apprentice today at age 16 and see the example that she is.
Anyway, Arthur has grown 7 cm since birth and is now 58cm. He was 3.6kgs at birth and is now 5.1 kgs! He's gorgeous.
He just had his 6 week shots. He screamed for about 60 seconds then was just really sooky and cuddly all day.
He didn't have any of the reactions other than being a little off and grizzly.
So have fun with that!

Bec - Wow what a great little sleeper you have there! I bet you would have felt refreshed from that sleep lol.

IRT tummy time, we mostly do tummy time with Xavier on our chests. He loves it. Like Ayva he holds his head very well, he really enjoys looking around at everything. We also give him time on the floor on his tummy (a few minutes here and there throughout the day, I dont stress about remembering though) but he isnt so tolerant of that lol. He cracks the poops after a few minutes hahaha.
And it is crazy how fast time is going! The last few weeks of my pregnancy certainly didnt go this fast lol.
Lisa - Xavier sleeps in a portacot at night, but during the day he's in his cot. he doesnt move around in that, but in the portacot he has started to turn himself sideways lol. Whatever makes him comfy I suppose lol.
M+M -Thats so great your DP has a great bond with Arthur. I love that they go out to the market together, thats so lovely. Arthur sounds absolutely adorable! I lol'ed at him giggling in his sleep, that is just too freaking cute.
What an awful situation for your cousin =( I cant believe she cant get any help from anywhere, thats horrible. I hope she enjoyed getting her hair done, it sounds like just the thing she needs. I really hope her situation picks up and she gets her little boy back soon, she must be devastated to not have him with her. I wish her the best of luck, the poor girl.
Afm - Had an CHN appointment today and Xavier has put on 510grms in 2 weeks and is now 5.220kilos. Little chubba! So since birth his put on over 1.1kilos! He's also grown 4.5cm since birth (is now 57.5).
It's great to know he's putting weight on so well, as he doesnt feed for long! He was feeding for 10-15mins, occasionally 20-30mins. Now though he finishes under 10mins most feeds (still has a couple of longer ones). And he only feeds every 2-3hrs. I was a little worried that he may not be feeding for long enough, but today shows he's just an effective feeder! My little booby monster!! Hahaha. /proud mumma moment lol.
He's been SO fussy randomly the last two days too. This morning at his 5am feed he went back to bed at 5.20 and then cried, so I got him back up and he then REALLY cried for 10mins! He rarely cries like that. I dunno what was up but he settled quick enough but didnt want to go back down as he kept grizzling and moving around so I put him in bed with me and he went straight to sleep lol.
Again this evening though he has let out some big cries. Bit of wind and overtiredness I think. After seeing the CHN we went shopping so it kind of messed with his naps a little. He's back sleeping now thankfully, he needs it.
We went shopping for the first time alone yesterday. We went into target to get a few things ... which turned into $100 later I shouldn't be allowed in there when sales are on lol. We also had our first parent changing room experience, which was fine lol. He fed for half an hour in there though! My arms were killing me by the end of it, screaming for my recliner and pillow lol.
Anyway I'm off to make a cuppa tea and feed the doggies
It's pretty quiet in here - mind you I haven't been in here for at least a week (I think?!) - it's no doubt a very busy time for all of us.
DS has gone from hourly feeds two nights ago, to three hourly, so am hoping we continue the love!

She usually feeds every 2.5-4hrs during the day, and does a 6-7hr stretch at night, then after that goes back to every 3-4hrs.
Usually she only takes one side, but once a day (usually her late arvo/early evening feed) shell take both sides.
She feeds on average about 20mins each feed now, but because I change her mid feed and make sure she has a break and is well burped, her total feed usually takes about 30-40mins all up, but sometimes she's as quick as 15-20mins all up! It depends on how hungry she is I guess! Lol
Wow it really is quiet in here!
My bubba is mainly formula fed, so doesn't make sense to compare to those of you lucky enough to be able to exclusively BF. In any case, my bub has reflux which makes his feeding fairly average, last night his 6:30pm feed took over 1.5 hours - I bet no-one is jealous of that delightful experience!
I try very hard to keep him on the save our sleep routine as it keeps him taking bigger feeds and being more settled than constantly being hungry and crying for food. He knows what's happening and when during the day, So I attempt to get him to do four feeds, at night he starts with four hours, then it goes between 2.5 and 3.5 between feeds.
We had a very average day yesterday, so am going to the pead next Tusday instead of the doctor for his 6-8week check. Not sure the Losec is working as he still seems tobe in pain from reflux after his feeds.

I have been really bad at replying in here and I haven't had time to read all your entries but I promise I'll catch up soon. Just thought I would give a little update.
Piper is growing like a weed. She is all fat rolls now. It's so gorgeous. I feel so lucky to have my little girl. Feeding with her has been a nightmare. She has bad attachment and a disorganised suck. 2 LC's and kinesiologist haven't been able to help. So we have been battling on. But little miss has been becoming more and more unsettled and only been sleeping 90 min blocks at night. So last night after an 8 hr screaming match with only 2, 30 min sleeps in that time. I expressed and gave her the milk in a bottle. She was instantly calm. And slept for 6 hrs last night. She had a 4hr sleep today as well after a bottle of ebm.
I am starting to become resigned to the fact that part or full time expressing may be apart of our future. I'm still hoping her attachment will improve with age but for right now if drinking the breast milk from a bottle makes her happy I think I have to go with that. Got to do what's best for her. Although I was hoping normal breastfeeding would be a success this time.
Hi Shan - friends from my mother group have a bub who is 8 weeks older than my DS- he started the crying at night time and they were sure their first bub didn't do it, but sure enough, as they record all the feeds and timing for both their bubs, they looked back and saw their now almost two year old did exactly the same thing about the same age as our bubs are. Hope bubs is settled again and so great to hear how much you love being a Mummy!
Was going to write more but have just got a stinky DD climbing on my lap so have to go and change her RIGHT now!!!

Sorry I ahve been MIA but have been busy with My 2 boys. Archer is 8 week on friday and is getting bigger by the day. We have put him onto karicare AR and he isnt chucking at all only when he gets upset and seems settled so I have glad we have done that, the only downside is that we cant make up a few bottles and keep them in the fridge just harder on us during those early morning feeds. Cooper my nearly 4 yr old is doing much better starting listening abit more but still has his days.
My boy is feeding 4-5 hourly around 150mls though does want more at times/

Cakester - When DD2 was on AR formula we had pre measured, boiled water in bottles in the fridge that we would microwave to the right temp then add the formula to. This worked best for us.
Shan - I know how you feel with the day sleeps, A realllly doesn't like sleeping through the day! She tends to catnap alot, but she snoozes so we can put her down and let her be by herself while we do other things.
Does X usually sleep well at night when he doesn't sleep well in the day?
But she DOES sleep well when we put her in her car capsule, I tell you what, it's a lifesaver! She gets to sleep all when we go out and when were home!
I'm sorry you feel like you're doing this alone I hope he can get a day off soon, and X will settle down a little for you
M+M - I cant feel the one at the back of A's head, (but apparently it's normal?) but I can feel the one on the top still.
I was thinking it's odd were all so quiet! But then, i can't talk, I have been pretty out of it in regards to relying to this thread! I read it all, I just don't reply! Lol
Oh man... Lucy is totally opposite in regards to sleep and I think it sucks. She sleeps a lot through the day and wants to stay up and chat at night when we're all wanting some sleep and she then gets shirty when she realises no one is chatting to her so she then has a cry. Last night however she slept for 6 hours solid and I woke up because my boobs were painful!
Shan - Sorry you're doing this on you're own. I hope your DP gets the chance to help you out real soon. As for feeling like you're unravelling... I am sure there is no one in here that can say they haven't felt that way too, so feel free to vent away and know you're in the company of many who can sympathise with you I hope you have a better day today that leads to a better week.
M+M - I can feel Lucy's fontanelle on the top of her head. It is more pronounced when she is due for a feed.
AFM - My 3 youngest children all had immunisations done on Saturday. It sucked that they all coincided with each other but oh well. DS2 was a champion and only said "ouch" when the 2nd lot was being done. DD2 & Lucinda both cried a lot. Lucy was weighed and she is now 5.5kgs but they didn't do her measurements as she wouldn't keep still nor would she allow us to straighten her legs out. She is really strong and stubborn! lol. Lucinda is also really tickleish and she giggles away when I clean under her double chin!!! lol. It is hilarious and DS1 thinks it is awesome.
