Babies born~ March 16th-31st 2011 #2

DD started smiling at 3 weeks. Actually accidentally captured the first one on camera- least the first one I saw! DS smiled for the first time at 4 weeks... It won't be long now!

Pretty peeved at dh right now, he said he'd help me clean up the house but vegged on his computer while I did the dishes, mopped the floor (which he then walked his supposedly clean feet over the the wet floor) and folded and put away nappies. Now he's watching tv (a show I hate so I made him turn it down so i couldn't hear it). :wall:

DD is in her basinet beside me and is making noises like she's awake... She'll cry when she's hungry, right? She had terrible feeds all afternoon...

I hope centerlink comes through soon, its freaking hard to pay bills and feed the family on $129 a
Fortnight...

i have quickly read threw, but alas, forgot most of what i was going to reply/say!!:duh:
A is a great sleeper, if im cuddling her, put her in her bed, 5 mins BAM shes up sooking and then screaming untill i bring her in with us, then i barely hear a peep out of her till i get up in the morning, if she dose wake, i kind of half wake, chuck her on then back to sleep i go.. tomorow will be fun tho, im up on here and watching sopranos... thinking getting the box set sop i dont stay up till 4 to watch it. funny thing is i never realy cared for it befor now!

dont get me started on DTD... we did the other night, the freaking condom broke! so im prety much in the same thoughts as you fearls, im so paranoid now, he cant touch me at all. there is no freakin way im having 3 under 2, not happening!

yup i get the kids vaxed to, have to get dd1 caught up tho, and ds1 is overdue for his befor school one, ops, guess i can get all 3 done at once, now that will be fun!

I dont know if it was the change to lactose free BUT! WE GOT A GREAT NIGHT SLEEP!!!!
Ella had a bottle of the new formula at 4pm slept until 10pm 6 HOURS then had another bottle at 2am but only 60mls then slept until 8am another 6 HOURS with no moaning and groaning from belly pain YIPPEEEEE!!! please please please be the formula.
We had one little grissel at 6am which the dummy went back in and she was back asleep.
So we tried S26gold/ S26/ SMA/ Nan HA gold/ Nan pro/ Karicare and karicare lactose free so we tried 7 formulas do i win lol.

Arimeh- thanks for that i had tried everything and the next step was lactose free or soy.

Ella smiles when she is having a wakeful period and you talk to her and tickle her chin other than that she is asleep or eating or whinging as babies do.

And i think things get better when babies settle into a sleep pattern and settle into feeding with my boys that was around the 2-3 week mark with Ella we are still trying to settle her tummy with the right formula her sleep is good when she isnt in pain.
She will grumble and whinge when tired and it takes about 10-15min for her to fall off to sleep but other than that i cant complain.

Sconeonamission-I had to go into centrelink and do my block at them i was waiting on the paid parental leave as i was working and i had done all the paperwork in janurary and recieved a letter to say that my payments would commence on the 30th of march well when i lodged the hospitals forms i was told because of the floods in queensland it would be delayed until the end of April i was like bullsh#t that is not good enough i am a working mum entitled to my payment if i was a skanky dole bludging baby making 18 year old they would have their baby bonus i have no income i am not entitled to any other benefits except family tax benefit which wont start until the paid parental leave does so what am i suppose to do with 4 kids to feed and rent to pay and no income.
It did the trick the very next day i had over $900 in the bank and the next friday i had $2000 so every 2nd friday i get $2000 now and i get $428 on the other week as DH isnt working and he gets $410 so it turned out good so at the moment it doesnt matter that DH is out of work (except some cash in hand on weekends ) but that is to pay off the lawyer.
Anyway i have rambled enough i just thought id tell you that sometimes it is good to go in to see them they might surprise you.

Hey everyone! Have finally caught up and read through everything, but forgotten what I was going to say lol

Ali - the only games hubby and I have both been addicted to iare warcraft and warhammer lol just as well we only have one working computer at the moment or I'd be getting him to install them on his laptop so that we could play each other in the evenings when both kids are asleep.

afm - Not much happening here, Elise slept for 9 hours on friday night, but kept on waking up every 2 hours last night, and DS has just started coughing from the cold he got from me and hubby, so it won't be long until Elise starts coughing now.

She has been feeding every 2 hours in the mornings (100-150ml each feed, 3-4 feeds), then has a 4 hour sleep then another 4 feeds over the next 3-6 hours.
That can't be normal to be drinking that much at this age can it? She's almost drinking a litre a day most days! And I can't always express that much a day, so when she's drinking heaps (like when she's up in the early hours of the morning for feeds and has 4 feeds before 8am) she gets topped up with formula, which makes no difference with her sleeping habits, colic or gas. Had a chat with DH about her screaming after and between feeds the other night and have started thinking it might have something to with lactose intolerance as both my uncle and little brother are lactose intolerant, so will be bringing that up with the MCHN on wednesday.

I'm just waiting for the pp bleeding to stop, *tmi* it's still just like my normal heavy AF for me, going through 2-4 pads a day still just like I do with AF, but only the normal ones not the maternity ones.
I want to DTD, but not until the bleeding stops and hubby has booked in to get the snip, 2 kids is enough for us (although last week I had the urge to have another lol, I miss feeling Elise move inside me lol, I don't miss the pain and discomfort though).

Regarding immunisations - DS is fully immunised, and Elise will be too. She's already had the vit K ands hep B, and as hubby got whooping cough when I was 16wks pregnant it's especially important to me that both my kids have their immunisations to either prevent them from getting sick or to make it easier for their bodies to fight it off. Just my thoughts on it anyway. And if it turns out that they are like my Aunt (she has had the rubella/mumps shots repeatedly but her body doesn't accept them itms and it's just like she hasn't been immunised at all, she doesn't get any immunity from it) then so be it we'll cross that hurdle if it comes.

re smiles - we've only caught Elise smiling while aake 3 times now, the rest of the smiles are while she's asleep and dreaming or just starting to fall asleep.
DS smiled for the first time at 1 minute old, and then didn't smile again until he was 2 weeks old. All the parenting books/magazines I've read and the flyers on the walls of the MCHN center say that they don't usually start smiling until they are about 6wks old.

Better go, DS is wanting food and I've only just gotten Elise off to sleep again and still haven't had breakfast yet! Think food is the priority right now lol

Jenna - we dtd 16days pp, flow was really light if at all sometimes and it made. It heavier! then again 27 days (pp finished), it was light, but heavy enough to wear a liner...

I had only just got DD on my chest at birth and thought yep, I'm done. No more kids. (this was before we even found out she was a girl!) when she was 4 days old, I thought - let's do this again! I'm still sorta keen, but dh has said definitely no more and we've just gotta save some money, coz dh is "off to the vet" :rolleyes:

Well the SMA isnt agreeing with J either. He is still feeding EVERY 2 hous unless he is asleep and he isnt bringing wind up. Some times i can be burping him for half hour. We have tried Infacol, Gripe Water, Marina Infant formula and Infants Friend. Poor little man is constantly grunting.

Kylz, we tried donnalix drops with Jensen for his wind. It was 3 yrs ago, it worked, but I haven't got any for Eden yet, so not sure if you can still get it...

hmmm sis told me to get coloxyl but i think that is for constipation lol

Scone - how come you are surviving on so little money? Did centrelink screw up or something?

Kylz - yeah coloxyl is for constipation, I used it a lot with kelts. Have you tried going to a homeopath? Kelti had a formula made up for her for her reflux, maybe it might help your little dude? Kelti was a 2 hourly feeder too, cos she had silent reflux she had to have small amounts of milk more frequently. Think it helped with her pains. Maybe he's doing the same thing?

Jenna - glad everything is going well!! Aricyn was drinking 120ml at 2 weeks old - now that's a big eater. If only the bugger would eat now lol

Not much going on here, boring Sunday. Just toddling around doing some housekeeping stuff. Thinking of selling some of my CDs, DVDs and books - cos I have so much friggin stuff and I don't listen/watch or read them!

Oh and does anyone know how to get mould out of material?

hey guys back again! Wedding was beautiful except the bride came down with gastro the day of the wedding. My poor BFF was so sick she ended up getting taken to the dr and getting an injection and on tablets to try and stop the vomitting and diaorrhea. Got through the wedding and we got like 10 bridal party photos before she had to go up to her room to just lie down. She made it down to the reception and was able to cut the cake then did the first dance straight away and then she had to go back up to her room. No speeches or anything. Then we had the reception without the bride or groom, just 80 people having dinner and drinks together :( I feel so sad for her, it was her wedding day and she missed it pretty much. I gave C to DH and spent the night dancing away. DH retired early with C and I followed up at 11pm and both were sound asleep on the bed :) yay daddy!!

Lisa: Welcome to our group! I'm supposed to be in the 1st feb -15feb group cos C was early but I love it here with my belly buddies :) They talk lots and its fun :)

mel: ugh don't even get me started on cleaning. Walked into the house saw the pile of dishes and wanted to walk right out :( I should be cleaning now while C is having a nap but I'd rather be surfin the net LOL

re smiles: nurse told me that babies start smiling from 6 weeks oldish, some do it earlier some do it later I think Chase was close to the end of 7 weeks when I got a real smile from him. And even now I have to catch him in the right mood to get him to smile at me but I have noticed he is smiling a little more each time :)

The saddest part is he loves his lolo (its what we call my dad, we have different names for each grandparent because there ware six of them :) gets confusing) so whenever his lolo starts talking to him or trying to make him smile BANG he does it and he coos/talks to him and everything. Maybe I should shave my head and grow a big white beard....:lol: maybe then he will want to talk to me

Oh so how do u know your babies are hungry? Yea dumb question I know but I watched dunstan baby language and I'm wondering if I'm misreading his cries. So tell me how u know cause I don't want to be over feeding him like the chn thinks I am :(

Oh, that makes my wedding whinge just petty :)

Arimeh - I put the forms for the baby bonus in on the 24th march at Medicare. Centrelink tell me that there has been "an influx of babies and theyre still processing flood/cyclone payment and it'll take 3 weeks /21 days to process". According to them the 3wks is tomorrow (18th April). If it's not in there tomorrow, I'm to call on tuesday. I'll be calling on Monday, not tuesday. Dh told me to go in to their offices and ask to see their lunchroom so we could have some food.

I went on maternity leave at 34 weeks (I work in a nursing home- it's full on), was paid 6 weeks maternity leave, which was less than my normal pay (it was an average amount, I knew I wouldn't get the same amount as normal cOz my normal pay includes a lot of penalty rates). Because it was less than normal wage, there was nothing left to save for between maternity leave and when centrelink came through. DD was 9 days late anyway so for the last 6weeks we've been living on all the savings we had (all gone now!) and PIL have been helping us out heaps. Unbelievably thankful to them.

On the upside, I used a lot of food that was just sitting in the pantry!

Wyatt still does those really obvious newborn BFing signals. That's all I go by.

Kylz, If DD takes what's offered I assume she's hungry. She wont open her mouth if she doesn't want it. I'd have thought it'd be the same for breast and bottle fed babies?

I had been wondering lately if DD is ready to roll. I was cooking dinner (at lunchtime!) and I could hear her crying. She had been sleeping in her sheepskin on the floor, sorta on her side (her big fat cloth bum had her sort of on her side but not quite already). I asked dh why she was crying - he was in the loungeroom with both kids playing ps3 and he looked I've and told me she was on her tummy! Funny thing was, she was asleep she did it!

Tummy time the other day, she had a towel under her chest to try and help her, I turned to help DS and turned back to her and she'd pushed herself over the towel and was face first in the carpet! The towel was under her hips!

Wow scone that's a bit rough - and I thought we were on a tight budget!!! Hope your money comes through soon. Wowto your dd moving already!!haha must be something in the name cos my Eden is pure mischief!!

Yeah the nehnehneh noise

Ella turns her head with her mouth open like when bubs are just born looking for the breast.
I think Ella has a touch of colic she is asleep and then will let out a sceam pull her legs up fart and stop crying poor baby.
We have been putting her on her tummy on a hot water and she settles and sleeps for ages on the lounge DH wants to put her to sleep in her cradle on her tummy but i am to scared to because of SID's we have an angel care sound and movement monitor but i just dont think i could relax and sleep with her that way even knowing the monitor would go off if she stopped breathing.
Does anyone sleep there bubs on their tummy she does settle so much better.

Ferrals - so far S is the only bub that we haven't had to put in their belly. The other 3 wouldn't settle on their back or side. I've always had a breathing monitor though, I'm pretty paranoid about it, so wouldn't be able to ever sleep if I didn't.

Fingers crossed that money is in today... I'm not looking yet, otherwise I'll never get to sleep!

Both Edens share the same middle name as well! My Eden's is spelt with a z though, I wasn't allowed to spell it with a s.

Argh! Eden's been awake since 2, just smiling and looking around. I'm so tired :(

Ferrals how do you stand the noise of the angelcare monitor? Is Ella in your room? I have one for J but its to noisy right next to my ear. I want her next to me also so its not an option to put her in another room. I usually put a pile of blankets on top of it top muffle the sound. I just want the flashing lights and the alarm not the beeping. Also J has a faster then normal respiratory rate so I'm looking at 50-60 beeps a minute minimum. J also lets out a scream in her sleep, farts then back to sleep. Sometimes it sounds like she has blown a hole in the nappy its that loud. As for sleeping on the belly even with the monitor I'd be to scared to also. I would do it during the day whilst I was watching her. In SCN the majority of bubs sleep on their tummy as they do sleep better but we could only do it if they were monitored. I must say I never had one that stopped breathing or was having difficulty because they were on the tummy but still I would be to worried to do it myself at home.

Hi everyone else, sorry for so few persies, trying to get Elise to sleep. Will be back later to do more.

afm - Elise hardly slept yesterday, DS was a horror, I didn't get to bed until after midnight last night, and then was up at 5:30 to feed Elise again... I'm buggered, and Elise has been feeding every 1-2hrs during the day since yesterday... I have noticed though that she sleeps longer after a formula feed than she does after the booby juice...
Speaking of the booby jice, my supply has started to drop so I'm going to get the ingredients for those lactation cookies this afternoon and make some up.
Is it normal for booby juice to be a bit watery? I've noticed over the last couple of days that my milk has gone a bit watery and isn't as creamy-looking as it used to be :(
As for pp bleeding, typical that after my post yesterday it has started to die down a bit lol, down to only 2 pads a day now :)

Well, Elise is finally asleep again and DS is happy watching TV so I'm going to go and express once more (going to try expressing a bit more often too to see if I can get my supply up a bit by doing that), and then get some dishes done.

Rhi can you check your online centrelink to see if there is anything there? if you are getting PPL its every monday f/n so I am due to be paid NEXT monday but since its a holiday they are paying it this thursday.

Mildez-I have the monitor on the low setting so the beep is pretty quiet and it doesnt bother me or DH and Ella is still in our room but not for much longer she is a noisy grunty sleeper so i am thinking of putting her cradle in her room or putting the monitor on her cot and and she can go into the cot a bit earlier than i wanted.
And we decided to only put her on her belly if playing up and only on the lounge with a heat wheat pack until she settles then into bed on her side.

Kylz-I get my PPL every 2nd friday so i guess mine will be in thursday also.

AFM-OMG! OMG! I really think the lactose free formula is doing the trick we have had no more playing up just the tired whinging when ella is ready for bed and she SLEPT from 10 until 3 had a bottle and went straight back to sleep until 8 she stayed up for an hour had some tummy time and gooed and garred and then went back to bed with minimal fuss THIS IS THE BABY GIRL I WANT a pain free happy girl.
And mum and dad got a to have a good sleep

JJ maybe its something to do with been born on the 30th. My little J hadn't sleep for more then 20mins straight yesterday. She kept waking and crying and she was so tired. She was ferrals last night it took ages to get her to sleep and she snacked on/off the boob for ages (and spewed on me 5times) At one stage last night I feel asleep and woke almost an hour later and she was still snacking away on me. This morning was looking the same as yesterday so I gave her 40mls of formula, then she fell asleep on the boob following that. She has now been down 45mins and hopefully she sleeps til Lunch atleast. My milk also looks like watered down milk. It was creamier last week for sure. I ended up taking motilium and have eaten far to many lactation cookies but I think all they are doing is skyrocketing my calories as my weight is going up and up again (as I gained almost 30kilos pregnant I was hoping Id be loosing it now not still gaining) I too am just about to go of and express. My supply has dwindles again since I've not been expressing as regularly.

jenna: my booby milk is watery at the beginning, then the harder bubby sucks the creamier the milk gets because at the end is the creamy good booby milk where they get the most nutrients, from what I've read anyway. Also you might think the milk is going but then in a couple of days it will be more than it was before. There have been a couple of times where I thought I had nothing and then a few days later *boom*, its the 3 weeks growth spurts that do it :) So she might just be having a growth spurt and emptying your boobies so they know to produce more milk than before.

Kylz: I try to listen for the Dunstan cry but C doesn't really cry until he starts getting very annoyed so I don't like to wait to listen for it. I know he is hungry because when I rest my finger below his lips or anywhere near them he latches and then takes long sucks like he thinks its the booby. but he also doesn't really use a dummy unless we are out so there is no way he just wants my finger to suck on, he wants to eat it. If I hold both of C's hands while he is on my lap sometimes he tenses and tries to sit up a bit. Not really sure about the rolling over I dont put him on his tummy that much...I'll test it out this week and see.

scone: thats absolute crap, bloody centrelink know people have bills to pay and groceries to buy and they still just stuff around. Hope you get through to them. Chase did the same thing launching himself over his underarm cushion and landing flat on his face LOL

ferrals: how wonderful that the formula is working for Ella :) Glad you finally got a nice long sleep, I always feel so much better after those.

I haven't even put in my forms for the BB yet (PPL is too complicated with how we get paid). I will be needing money in a couple of weeks as my work paid mat. leave runs out. Now I'm getting worried about the processing time.

Ferrals - that's great that you are having some good night sleeps! Enjoy.

Jenna - can I ask why you are expressing? I am as well. Mine is usually creamy looking but at the beginning of the flow it can look a bit watery.

Scone - How very frustrating for you. I remember hanging up on Centrelink recently as I was so frustrated. Wow, that roll already is amazing. I know what you mean about the cloth nappies. DS is beginning to rock when having tummy time and I think the cloth nappy supports this.

RE - smiles - DS was smiling at 2 weeks, but it wasn't deliberate just a random facial expression. By 3 weeks he began to do it when I played a game of kissing his checks when on the change table.

RE - feeding cues - I honestly have little idea I wish I did. When he gets over hungry and cries I get that cue but the subtle ones I'm really lost. I also noticed that on the information I was given the hunger cues are pretty similar to the tired ones. I do find that DS will close his mouth and refuse the bottle when he is not hungry and when on the breast will just go to sleep. The MCHN told me to not worry about over feeding at this stage and just demand feed (this included when I was using formula to top up before my supply came in). This went against what several other MWs told me but I found DS was much happier when I just feed him when he took it.

AFM: DS is getting harder to settle down to sleep particularly during his grizzly hours in the afternoon and this morning he was also hard to get off to sleep after his feed and a short play. He also woke up early after his early morning feed and I had to get up early.

Off to the LC today. I know there is no magic cure for our BF problems but I kind of like going through it with the LC, sort of moral support I guess.

Lisa B good luck with the LC. Hope they do have a magic cure. If so share it with me although our issue is with DD not sucking enough. I too haven't applied for BB or PPL. Living on savings but I have to get down to medicare and do it. DD isn't even on our medicare card yet and we haven't sent of her birth certificate. Better get to those this week.

Mildez - I hope your supply picks up soon, makes it really frustrating. Elise has been down since 8:30, so is due for another feed, thankfuly she's only staring and not sooking yet as I'm expressing again lol

Kitty - if sh was emptying my boobies I'd be happy lol I have to express all her feeds as the only time she latches on without screaming the house down is when she just wants to comfort suck and fall asleep lol

Lisa - At first I was expressing before Elise was born as I had GD, then after she was born her mouth was too small and she kept on putting her tongue up to the roof of her mouth and wasn't latching on or sucking properly. She doesn't always latch on or suck properly, and now it's a battle to get her to have only a couple of sucks unless she just wants to comfort suck and fall asleep. Still gives me hope that I'll get her on the boob properly when she's older, but I'm not really expectin it to happen.

afm - Didn't end up expressing earlier, had to get dishes done, so jut finished expressing now an hour earlier than normal, got 120mls, and it was quite creamy... here's hoping that it will be the same in 3 hours when I express again. Have enough milk in the fridge for 3 & 1/2 feeds now, so she won't need much - if any - formula today.
Had to call the ambulance for me earlier today, all my upper stomach muscles and ribs went really tight and made it really hard for me to breath, and it hurt quite a bit. I've had it twice before since Elise was born, first time I called the ambo's and they said it sounded like a panic attack and it lasted for about 15 minutes. The second time I just let it sort itself out and it lasted for 15 minutes as well, this time it lasted between 20 and 25 minutes and was a lot worse than the other 2 times, I was having so much trouble breathing I felt like I was going to pass out and just before the ambo's got here I felt like I was going to throw up.
Thank god it's all gone now, it was really scary.
Was supposed to be at the doctors by now, but had to feed DS and now have to feed Elise, and change her nappy - explosive poo's have invaded the house again!
Will have to make another appointment on friday when hubby is home.

Kylz-yes it is i guess it starts whenever the payment is granted after your childs birth and mine gos in with my other family payments so i get $2000 in total every 2nd friday

sad me post. Just got a letter today saying they got the results back from pathology and for me to make an appointment to come see the dr...pretty sure they only make you come back if they have something bad to tell you so its quite likely I've actually got diabetes. FML. DH is being a frickin D-Head. I read the letter when i found it in the letterbox when i got home tonight and all I wanted to do was curl up and cry but DH had buggered off for the 2nd night in a row so I had Chase to look after and now im just bloody depressed. diabetes at 25. My whole life im never going to enjoy eating. And the one person who is supposed to be here supporting me with a shoulder to cry on is too busy being a tool with his friend at the coast. I'm so angry and sad right now.

Naw u could have bought C here for a cry I'm laying here wide awake with a horrid tummy ache. Think the ham I ate was starting to go off :(

Kitty I'm sure it's standard procedure to get the results in person. My test is in a few weeks and my Dr's apt is already booked in for after. They will just want to lecture you about the 50% chance of getting it in 10 years.

Jenna have you tried a breast shield for the latching? I hate having to use it but it's so much better than full time expressing like I was at the start.

Up for the second time tonight - can't believe I can function through the day, thank god I love coffee!! Although I have noticed my patience with the other kids is somewhat non-existent. Especially with Eden cos she's attached to my hip most of the day. I even had to pee with her on my lap yesterday and it still wasn't good enough and ended in tears! Be gone clingy toddler stage - oh how I hate you!

Anyway that's my whinge.
