Jaki-i forgot to add to the list Ella gets a croaky voice to which is a symptom.
I rang my doctor again and pushed getting into to see him today at 3:00.
I cant believe i have left it so long thinking it was wind or colic it all makes sense now all the moaning and groaning arching back and neck (she even sleeps with her back arched poor baby) gulping ect it all now makes sense to me i feel so bad letting her go so long and just changing formulas BAD MOTHER BAD BAD MOTHER!!!!!
Ferrals I don't think it makes you a bad mother. Most of the symptoms can be explained as general newborn fussiness or that their formula isn't very good on their bellies - which is why most reflux isn't diagnosed till 6ish weeks - cos nobody really picks up on things that newborns do until they seem to do it all the time and then we look for further explanation as to why. So don't think you are a bad mum.
Currently carrying S in the close carrier at the moment, oh what I wouldn't give for a nice quiet house. My 17 month old is the loudest child in the world, no wonder the baby can't sleep with all her whinging and carrying on. I had just got S asleep (after several feeds) and put her down, then E decided to stand outside the bedroom door (which is also where our dining room is) and whinge for no reason. No reason!!! Even after telling her to shut the eff up (yes, yes, bad mummy for swearing - meh) she still whinged and then of course - S woke up.
So frustrating, I just want to lock her in her room when S is sleeping because she walks around either yelling or whinging (again, for no reason!) and always wakes her. Anyway, thats my whinge from a mum of many - so count your blessings those with one child cos at least they don't get woken up by their noisy siblings!! lol
The thread is moving fast and I have no hope on catching up on the last few days.
We had a bad day yesterday as well. I'm lucky that the nights are usually good, bar the 3 hourly feeds. By the end of the day I was in tears as DS hadn't slept except for 10 minutes here and there and was grizzly all day. I was scared to wake up to deal with today as I would find 2 days in a row hard to deal with.
Today I thought I would try out a new strategy and rather than responding to DS the instant there is a grizzle to let DS grizzle for a few minutes (about the time it took to wash and rinse the bottles and breast pump equipment). He was asleep after a few minutes of grizzling. My philosophy is to respond to a crying baby at this age so I'm not sure if it was wrong or not to let DS have a short grizzle. It wasn't one of the waa- waa type cries just some grizzling. What do you ladies think? Is it normal for a baby to grizzle before going off to sleep? Would you respond at the grizzle point or just at the waa-waa type crying point?
Arimeh - I often think how difficult it would be to have another young child to manage as well as attending to DS.
Ferrals - you aren't a bad mother, we are all just trying to do our best and sometimes it takes a little while to work our LO out. It would help if we could read their minds!!
Ella - ouch, I hope you are okay.
Sammie - how cute. It makes a bad day so much better when you get a little smile or a coo.
I have my first mother's group meeting today. I'm looking forward to meeting some other mothers in my area with children the same age. We were asked to bring a small plate to share. I could only manage to organise biscuits as we had such a bad day yesterday as a rushed into the supermarket and out whilst DS was crying. I feel a bit embarrased. I'm normally the person who brings a cake or a slice.
Lisa-If ella is fed watered clean bum and clearly tired and cranky i will let her cry even the full on wah wah i do this for a few minutes at a time then go in pop the dummy in roll her to the other side and walk out and every time she carries on I wait a little longer and i can hear her cry then try to settle herself with the sounds of her sucking her dummy and it usually takes a few times and she goes off to sleep with no patting or rocking.
Of course i never let her get to worked up because then she wont settle but i find if i let her get to tired say we have been in and out of the car a lot shopping ect and she has not had her normal sleep she will play up longer in the evening.
Arimeh-Thanks i feel like a 1st time mum again with Ella she is a mystery where my boys i could read all the signs and they were awesome bubbies.
I have to admit i got really p#ssed off with ella last night that i still cant get her into the routine i want and that i cant settle her as easy as i did the boys i keep comparing her to them and i know i shouldnt but i cant help it i found myself wondering why on earth i agreed to have another baby 3 years ago when DH asked when i had stopped at the 3 boys i cant believe i was thinking that after all the heartache we went through and the ivf and the longing to have a baby together and we got our miracle girl and i am soooo in love with her but FRUSTRATED with her.
DOES THAT MAKE SENSE.

well we had a good nite, not sure if it's the zantac or it's from the osteo but everytime jack feeds he does a poo!! we have just had a screaming episode but i was naughty n had a chocolate
Ferrals - thanks for the reassurance. What you are saying makes absolute sense. Mine is an IVF bubba and when I feel frustrated I feel really bad because I know how much I wanted him and how many other ladies on IVF would want to be in my position. I'm also in love with my little one, the highs are high and the lows are low!! When he does something really cute it makes the bad moments melt away for a little while and I realise how much I love him.
Iona - I'm eating heaps of chocolate from Easter maybe this is affecting DS behaviour. It's a little comfort eating and sugar to keep me awake. I hope it's not from chocolate...one of my favourite foods.
Well back from the doctors and he said Ella's gut sounds are terrible and they should not sound like that so that would explain all the moaning and groaning he does think she has silent reflux as she did the whole regurgatation of clear fluid and swallowed it back down and then screamed while he was examing her he had a look in her throat and it is a little red so he has put her on Zantac 1ml twice a day and we go back next week and let him know if there is a change in her.
He said it is a very safe drug as they give it to premmie babies in NICU to help them with reflux as there little bodies are not developed yet.
So lets hope this works he said we should see an improvement in her in a day or so if it is silent reflux

Iona-your not wrong there i am actually nervous about tonight how dumb does that sound i am just hopeing for her to have a settled sleep even if its only 3-4 hours between feeds just no moaning and groaning and uncomfortable pain it is starting to wear me down a little the days are fine i can settle her but nights when i am trying to sleep and am tired i dont handle that so well i get impatient.

ferrals: hoping the zantac works and little Ella (and you) get a good nights sleep. And of course you aren't a bad mother, you went through options to see what was wrong and you figured it out. Your an awesome mumma!
iona: I never notice a difference with C when I eat chocolate, Im going to have to pay more attention next time I have some...wait DH bought me home cold rock for dinner!!! cookies and cream ice cream with a choc fudge brownie...imma eat that tonight and see how C goes tomorrow hehehe
lisa: how did your mothers group go?? I meet up with some girls from school who had had babies and we just chat for like 3 hours, much like the bb dfo meets actually :) its always good to be able to ask questions from other mothers. I read somewhere when a baby is under 3 months there is no such thing as cuddling too much so I over cuddle right now but I also do let him grizzle if he is just making noises but as soon as it gets a little more waa-waa then I pick him up. It happened once that C was overtired and I put him down he grizzled for a while then drifted off so I dont think there is anything wrong with that.
mel: I am def counting my blessings :) although I do have to deal with other noises like 16 year old neighbour boy and my DH's mid mid life crisis friends who one announced to me today 'im turning 21!'....ummm yeah I turned twenty one like 5 years ago, this is why im not friends with immature nitwits.
Kylz: sounds like J is doing some good long sleeping :) C backtracked his good sleeping habits the passed few nights so I hope he is back on track tonight FX.
lou: hey while you are at the drs tomorrow think you could ask when the area around the scar is supposed to stop hurting when you push it??? I don't want to have to pay $60 just to ask my GP that lol.

Just put C down for a sleep, my first attempt, usually it takes 2-3 so just waiting for him to realise that I've dumped him in the bassinet :) My BFF and I were talking about our next babies today, made me want to be pg again. I think cos my pregnancy ended so quickly and abruptly I can't wait to be pg again and hopefully last longer than 34 weeks :) but definitely giving myself a little more time, my tummy still hurts above the scar when I press it so Im still scared to do sit ups.
holy crap in 1 week and 1 day Chase will be 3 months old!!!! :o
kitty - the mothers group went well. my humble plate of biscuits fit in very well with the other busy first time mothers. my pregnancy was to term but I also miss my little one being inside me at times. I agree I tend to believe that bubs at this age can't be cuddled enough.

AFM: just up expressing so thought I;d jump on to pass time away as I finished my library book. Okay should do some pelvic floor exercises before I finish up expressing.
Holy Dooley! Time does fly! I was only saying to dh last night E is 6 weeks Friday! It's not been that long I swear!I think about my next pregnancy as well, but it's a dream coz dh is going to the 'vet'.
I have sorta worked out the cries now. There is a I'm hungry scream, I'm hungry cry, I want to be held cry, my bum needs changing and I'm-awake-and-no-ones-paying-me-attention cry. I like that one, it sounds pretty cute! I'll let her have a bit of a cry, just to work out which. Sometimes she'll just whinge and go back to sleep. All that said, if we're out or if it's just a particularly scream-y day, my stress level goes up and I get so stressed out! I've had a few these last couple of days.
The smiles are what make the hard parts easy. I'm a 2nd time round parent and sometimes think I knew more 1st time than this time!
The noisy sibling here just keeps kissing E and squeezing her chubby cheeks. He's absolutely smitten. She does seem too disturbed about his noise- probably coz he didn't shut up all pregnancy and that's all she heard lol
Hope we all have a better day today! E has needles at 830 (I have to bring my grandma with me for J as we were measuring everyone last night with a tape measure and we mentioned to him that's what the dr will do and he burst into tears for about 20mins coz he doesn't want the dr to hurt 'his' baby!) twinkle toes photos again today... Please let us get sone good ones with no crying and screaming!

AFM - finally learnt to use the hug a bub. It was freaking awesome!! Had to wait over an hour at an apptment for ella today plus we were in the cardiologist office for 45 minutes. And I didn't hear a peep! Plus I had my hands free :) going to use it at kindy drop off tomorrow.
Twinkle toes (at wakerley) do it in-house now. Little images Alex Hills closed down! I rang head office about getting the free newborn thing they do and there's supposed to be a new studio starting up in manly this month. She was supposed to call me and hasn't. The newborn thing was for up to 1mth olds, so they better give me a darn good deal for not getting back to me TWICE. Not the best way to start a business, by ignoring potential customers!
I've emailed them twice too and no answer!!!! I didn't know the Alex hills one closed....kind of dont want to use them now, but they were good last time, and pretty well priced.
P#ssed off i wrote a long post and my stupid computer logged off and shut down the power cord had come out and i didnt relise so i lost it all.
Sconeonamission-Ella gets her needles wed and i always cry when my newborns have their needles.
Kitty-my scar hurt just above also even when i lay on my belly i cant wait to be able to do exercises my extra 4kgs ia all around my belly and waist i fit into all my normal clothes just cant do the bas#ards up.
Good god chase is almost 3 months that means our bubs are not far behind.
Ella is 6 weeks today!
Iona-how was your night?
OK i dont know if it was the Zantac but Ella had her bottle at 7pm she had her 1st dose of Zantac at 4pm so 3 hours before anyway we put her to bed at 8pm and she went off to sleep by herself NO crying and i didnt need to go in and settle her she just sucked her dummy and went off to sleep no moaning or groaning at all.
She woke at 12:30 had a bottle with no fuss no arching her back or neck no gulping and crying she just drank and went back to sleep until 5:30 had her next bottle with no fuss at all and went straight back to sleep sucking her dummy no moaning groaning at all she actually had a peacful sleep and she has just woken now and is laying on her play mat so what can i say i dont want to jump the gun but so far the Zantac is looking good.
Oh and we put a pillow under her sheets to keep up more upright so that helped also.
ferrals - yay on ella having a good night. jack slept for 5hrs to and then did his usual wake up every couple of hrs after but have noticed he will only feed for about 5-10mins instead of his normal 20-30 before he falls asleep so this could be causing the 2hrly wake up calls

Needles for E went well, I had to have my blood pressure taken 3 times - first didn't work, 2nd done manually, 3rd I had to stand up. Then my pulse was taken and the dr said my pulse was irregular (48bpm)and then 60-something bpm, so I had to have an ECG which shows there's a tiny something with my heart beat, which isn't there all the time. She's told me it's nothing to worry about, but that's hard to do! I'm sitting waiting for a blood test for thyroid and iron. I have an appt Thursday to discuss blood test results, and in the meantime the dr is showing the ECG to someone who can read more in depth.
oh scone - hope it's nothing major and it sorts itself out and yay on E being soo good at getting her needles.
jack has been soo good this morn, he slept from 9-12, all while i got my nails done and picked up a few things at coles....ahh always a first for everything now let's see how the arvo goes
Iona - yay for getting your nails done with bub sleeping!! I'm jealous as mine are pretty ruined from constant washing of bottles and pump equipment.
Scone - I hope everything resolves really soon. Thursday must seem like a long way away. If it's thyroid or iron (I have issues with both) it can be resolved easily. It's great you've worked out bubs cries, it must make things a bit easier.
Ferrals - great you had a peaceful night. I'm carrying an extra 4.5kgs around the waist. I have the same issues with clothes...I can't get the waist done up. I just started back a couple of sessions at the gym but the Easter eggs aren't helping :)
We are having a good day...so far. I have even had a chance to do a little bit of housework. We are in chaos at the moment.
Still having a fantastic day Ella has been a bliss and falling asleep after her feeds all by herself we just put her down and pop her dummy in once or twice and she is out we have had no back arching or moaning and groaning during her sleep yet god i hope it continues, waiting to see if we still have the 6pm-8pm grizzly hours.
Do you remember sunshine&stars who started off in our belly buddies group at the very begining she had her little boy obie early before Kitty had chase well her little man died on the 5th of April he had a neurological disorder poor little bub he held on for just over 2 months just thought id let you know as someone mentioned her during the end of our pregnancies.

After a shocking few days and disaster last night, we finally admitted to ourselves that S has silent reflux too. I didn't want to believe it, so was in denial about her symptoms, couldn't believe I was unlucky enough to have 4 babies - all with reflux of some description. So took her to the doc today, he finally gave me a script for Zantac after telling me she probably has a bladder infection (errr but no fever which usually accompanies an infection dip shiat) so I'll give her a dose of that soon I guess.
Ferrals - were you told specific times to give it? My doc didn't give me any info on it and the chemist just said twice a day - and what measure is Ella on? I got told 2.5mls for S - again by the chemist. And did they tell you to give it before or after a feed? I was told nothing...

Oh Ella, Ouch with your C-section scar! Mine is healed and I just got the go ahead with waxing and Body pump. Yaaa. Really hope yours is okay? wouldn't it of dissolved? Btw started the gym yesterday and WW. I am doing unlimited and it is $14 a week for unlimited. I am going to meetings twice a week until I lost 10 kilos. Little goal I made with myself. : ) I think the meetings are super motivational so going to stick with it.
I am sorry to hear about all these stressed moms. I was like that a few days ago.. DH loves to pick up K at every single sound he makes!! Drives me nuttah as with this crappy rain Mark has been home all week.... God help me.

mel - i was prescribed 2.5mls twice a day but the chemist questioned it as she thought it was too high so tried to call my dr but couldn't get a hold of him...anyway jack won't take the 2.5ml so dropped it to 1ml and i just give to him in the morn when we get up so is after a feed and at night last night it was an hr after a feed
Ferrals I just saw that you had posted in that thread so i was nosey and had a look sooo sad.
Ok so J doesnt sook or grunt or groan after any feed other than the first one at night so about 230 depending on what time he goes to bed. I can hear him groaning from our room. He doesnt do this any other time. Do you think he is just resettling after being awake for the feed. Happens every night without fail.
I cant believe my baby is already 9 weeks old. WHat the. Where has the time gone. I gave him and went to the chn on Wed cause DH is home and he is now 6.1kg and 58cm long. Is this too big for his age? The lady didnt seem concered about anything other than I dont put him in his cot to sleep during the day. Everytime I do he only sleeps for 30min max.

That makes me so very sad. I saw her posts just after she had him and tried to stalk her a week or so ago to see how he was.
Such a long struggle to get pregnant and stay pregnant for her and dh, such a tragic ending for them :'(
Arimeh-My doctor rang the childrens hospital after he got on the computer to check the dosage and as adults take 10mls twice a day newborns would only have a small amount anyway he rang the hospital and they said 1ml twice a day to start with for her weight when she gets bigger it may increase.
I give it to her in the morning with her 9:30 bottle and then with her 4-5pm bottle but i might give it to her half hour before because tonight she brought up her whole bottle so i am not sure how much Zantac stayed down.
Kylz-Ella still grunts and groans while going off to sleep which is normal she just doesnt do it constantly in her sleep since starting the Zantac.
Jaki-I know i feel for them after all they have been through.
Well we have made it to 7:40 with no grizzly hour ella had her bottle at 5:30 and i put her to bed at 7pm and she just laid there and has made a few noises sucking her dummy i went in and checked on her and she is slowy dozing off her eyes are almost closed i cant believe how content she is i am not fighting with her and repeatedly running the stairs to pop the dummy in.
Question about the Zantac can you mix it with anything it tastes like crap and ella is not a fan of it.
ferrals: oh I tried to stalk sunshine&stars as well to see how she was going with Obie. Such sad news.

Kylz: I think we worked out C is about 5.6kg, we don't get him weighed anymore cos I have to make an appointment with the health nurses now. I just get Dh to stand on the scales without bubby then get him to stand on them with bubby and work out how much he weighs from there hehe
sorry everyone else, I'm so tired. C has gone back to waking up at midnight and 3am and the change is messing with my sleep not to mention he refuses to sleep during the day as well. Leading up to the growth spurt I think lucky me. C wouldn't sleep all day nor this arvo for longer than 20mins. Got him to sleep just before and he woke up again. Too stressed to try again, he just cries and keeps smacking my face and chest and I don't know what else to do so left him to daddy. Wish he took a dummy, what types of dummies do you guys have??
Kitty - I can't remember if you are BF or not. The LC and MCHN told me there is new research that shows dummies don't affect BF and the best ones are the ones with the ball type end. We are using a tommee tippee one. We just use it in the difficult afternoon hours and seems to really help DS settle apart from the fact it drops out frequently. Other times DS is able to settle himself to sleep without the dummie. My DS started to get unsettled at about that 5 weeks mark - which is your bubs adjusted age (according to your signature). It's really hard when they don't get to sleep in the afternoon or day, and then to face wake ups in the night. I had a melt down the other day when this happened to me.
Kitty- Wyatt prefers advent but I think it's because it was his first.
We have tried nuk which I hate, the teat is weird and the actual dummy is quite unattractive.
We have tommy teepee which he isn't a fan of, the base around the mouth is quite heavy compared to the size of the teat so it takes a hard suction to keep it in. So it depends on his mood if he will take it.
I'm planning on trying an old fashioned happy baby dummy. It has quite a large teat which I think will be better for Wyatt as he is dropping off to sleep. That's when his dummy falls out alot requiring me to walk in to pop it back in several times.
Plus the HB ones are $2 rather than $8-12 :D
I'm feeding Wyatt just now and can hear him swallowing massive pockets of air :( we will pay for that later. The LC this week said he is having alot of trouble regulating my flow which is really fast. Poor wee mite.
Oh but if you ask my Biatch of a friend who was so rude on my fb update yesterday it's me giving him wind from eating chocolate. Or for having a fizzy drink. Not quite sure which she was implying.

Thanks for the info on measurements for Zantac guys. I gave it to her around 4 yesterday and no screaming last night! Yayy!! Plus she didnt have random cries during the night and she actually slept! Only woke up once!
Dummies - we use the happy baby one here, it's the first I try and was recommended by a lc as being the best for not getting them confused between that and the nipple. Mind you, when they get a mouth full of teeth I switch to the tommee tippee ones cos they are a stronger latex - less chance of them biting it off in their sleep. Dd1 is my only one that wasn't a dummy fan, she would only take the nuk brand and stopped taking around 6 months. DS was made to give his up just before he turned 3, dd2 still has hers at 17 months.
Jak - what a nasty friend! I know chocolate can upset bubs, but I think it causes tummy aches - not anything wind rated? Hope he doesn't get too windy for you.

I use advent and Nuk. I am a fan of Advent but only the ones that are shaped like the Nuk. Jak, all suckies look like that in Canada. It is recommended by dentists for when the baby's teeth are coming in and provides better suction. Kind of like a retainer, going under the roof of the mouth rather then pushing against the gums. I did not know any better until I came here and seen the bulb ones... They looked out of this world, so can totally understand how you feel when you first seen it!
I think K does not like the suckie though.. Hope you guys are all having a good day.

Jak when I eat choc,oj or onions c gets an upset tum, not wind.....well I'm pretty sure. Although I've found I can have a tiny amount and she's fine. Glad the zantac is working for the bubs on it. Crap night here, have 2 whingey girls who seem to hate sleep here! Can't wait for DH to get home from work!!!
I dont understand how people can decipher any particular thing that effects a baby without alot of trials unless they only eat that one item all day and nothing else. It's like figuring out an allergy, you would have to stop eating everything and the reintroduce things one at a time to be able to say that a particular thing undoubtably affects them.

I'm 90% sure c reacts to chocs,oj and onion. On the days I have too much of those things she is feral. And not just a bit upset, screaming in pain for hours til she poos it out :( in saying that, like u said the only way to be sure is eat only a certain thing and see how they react. But bugger that lol
It is alot of effort but perhaps out of curiosity I won't have any choc for a while and then have heaps ;)
His wind has been better since developing a new feeding position for us with the LC... Basically he sits straddled over my let and then lays up my body and goes straight over the nip. Then as his guzzling slows I can relax him to the side a bit.
Unfortunately thus possy doesn't work on the left, only football hold or I have to drop it straight in his gob from above! Rofl. But the left is never full so he doesn't guzzle :)
