Hey all! Have a few spare mins to reply while H is asleep and Bella is eating and watching playschool!
Everything going along ok here! Had my and H's 6 week check up today and he is perfect ( ofcourse!!) he does have reflux which I suspected as bella had it too, so getting sone losec suspension made up by the chemist in Melbourne and sent down., get it on Saturday. He only had a mild case so we can wait.
I have a gyno appoint tomorrow to check how my tear has healed!
H is only waking once a night now for a feed so getting a bit more sleep, well if Bella sleeps through we do lol!
Taking H to see a Bowen therapist soon to get his neck worked on as he tends to turn one way and has a flat spot, same as Bella did so not to worried about it this time!

Not even Zantac Jak? Gaww thats a bit rough!!! I'm pretty sure its helping here, when I give it to her, I hear her tummy gurgle and she starts frothing at the mouth.. LOL.. I guess its the acid being neutralised that makes her froth.

Hi Kate!!! Hope your tear is ok. I'm not sure who I'm going to go see to get mine checked out. Definitely not my GP cos he is a tosser.

louise/mel/sarah: thanks for the advice :) i keep freaking myself out that the tiny spotting was implantation and now im freaked out im pregnant even though its just not possible that I am unless I ovulated on my period or something equally unlikely LOL so i just needed to hear whacked out cycles is normal.

lisa: have they gotten to the bottom of why he can't drink? poor little mite. If you are worried don't feel embarassed by taking him to the hospital, better to do that and be told he is ok than worry about him for days.

jaki: so W has reflux too??? all these poor little bubbies. I agree with Kylz can you go see another dr that will actually try and help.

kate: H sounds like he is doing awesome!!! Hope your tear is all good, ouchies!!

ferrals: how was ella today??? is she getting better now that she has the stuff to help with her reflux??

tonight we are sleeping at lolo and lolas house as my mum is flying back to the philippines tomorrow for a month and she wanted Chase to come wsee her off :( im so sad, im scarily dependant on my mother as in, she probably sees chase more than DH does because she is over for hours every couple of days and I'm pretty sure i eat at her place at least twice a week too. I'll have to cook for myself!!! the humanity!! lol

Yeah nah not even zantac. If he doesnt improve soon i will go to the other surgery where they are all indians and give you whatever you want ;)

hi girls, just popping in to let u know i am still alive, just been busy busy with an assignment and had a sinus migraine over the weekend and it finally has started to ease off so hopefully it will be all gone tomorrow....

Just got home from the hospital. They are taking it seriously. I have to go in tomorrow at 6pm for them to look at him again. If he still isn't feeding they are going to give serious consideration to admitting him and doing a feeding tube.

One nurse said I might have to stop the EBM and go onto formula. I don't want to do that. I've come so far with expressing and feel it's right for me and my DS. I do completely respect the ladies who are using formula so please don't think I don't.

I'm feeling overwhelmed and the doctor validated my feelings and suggested that DP stay home tomorrow.

made it home just on time to pick ds up, then the health nurse pulled me up walking past:shakehead: should have taken the long way home. put A on the scales, NOT HQAPPY she has put on 30g in the last week, man didnt i cop a ear full, i just wanted to go home, feed the kids and go to bed, but ds2 locked himself in the toilet and couldnt unlock it, the hour it took for someone to come take the lock apart and get him out i had to deal with her talking about this and that and how im starving her, blah blah...
i caved got a tin of formula, she had a botle at 5, and is still asleep so im probably going to be up with her most the night, as this is usualy her awake/tummy time. when i burped her, she had alot of trouble getting it up:shakehead: :redface:
i can still bf after shes had formula yeah? sorry dumb question just i never went back after the first bottle with the others and i realy dont want to give up now. if i didnt get stuck there i wouldnt have gone to the shop and wouldnt be in this pickle.

apparently she is starving therefore its the reason she wont sleep in the cradle, funny how she will sleep fine in her sisters bed!

Sarah - of course u can go back to bf after formula. I put Luke on formula for 2 weeks as I has nipple thrush and they were severly cracked and bleeding and got him back on the boob after they had healed. I had a lot of people tell me that I'll never get him back on put he did. The only thing is I can't remember how I kept my supply up as it was that long ago

Lisa- so glad they are taking u serious and I hope ur lil man starts feeding real soon

Hi ladies.

Lisa-glad the hospital is taking it serious but i hope it's nothing major and they sort it out for you.

Jaki-Ella only has mild reflux but the zantac definately makes a difference she dosent wake every time she is laid down if she regurgitates now it doesnt bother her my doctor said in a month to lower the dose and try to wean her off it.
If you are not happy with your doctor get another opinion.

Kitty-Ella is much better now i am pretty sure it was from the rota virus syrup she had the runs and was just not well for a few days.
I miss my mum to when she goes away and she usually goes to america every 2nd year.

AFM-Ella had a good day so i think she is back to normal now she slept from 5:30 until 11:30 6hrs and then woke for a bottle at 3:30am and went back to sleep.
We have the reflux pretty much sorted out except the thickened formula it keeps getting blocked in the teat and i have tried the fast flow and she gets real windy from it so today i am not going to thicken her formula and see how much she keeps down.

Does anyone else thicken their bubs formula or use AR formulas?

Sarah you'll be fine hun, just give her the boobie then a formula top up. Hugs.

Ferrals I think it's quite common to thicken formula or ebm with relax babies. The dr told me to but I don't want to get back in the habit of expressing unless I really have to.

We are off to see a movie today! The Adam sandler/ Jen aniston one. There is a little mining town 40 klms from here that does morning tea and mum and Bub movies in their cultural centre :D

Ferrals: I got some thickener bout 2 and half weeks ago but only used it once. The lady suggested using it when Kolton wanted a feed every two hours.

Lisa: Hope everything gets better. At the very least the fact they are listening to you, is good news.

Jak: That movie is soooo funny, watched it a few weeks ago. Have fun, sounds like a good outing.

Has anyone thought about high chairs yet? I am so torn as I do not want one of those MASSIVE one's. I was thinking of the stoke one but they are so dear! Any suggestions guys?

Tams-we brought one ages ago it was $149 down to $80 so i couldnt pass that up it is one of those fangle dangle ones that the seat tilts back into a few different positions for bub at different ages.

Jaki- I forgot to ask how did wyatt go with his needles?

Ella is so full of wind poor bubby i can hear her groaning and farting in her sleep.

Lmp - we have the ikea high chair - it's awesome. Used it for two bubs now and in 4.5 months time Eden will have to give it up for Sahti lol

Mum has an ikea one ay her place that she used with MJ, it's really good. We have a wooden one that I got on eBay, but originally from babyco and thats really good too - and it matches our chairs for the table lol.
When we used friends big padded things I found that she got lost in the padding or didn't sit well in it - the simpler the better we found.
I think I bought it at about 5 months as we didn't start solids til 6 months...

Thanks ladies. I don't mind the Ikea ones but wish it was wooden. : ( I agree the simpler the better but still unsure. I wanted to stick with the bumbo seat and tray when I start solids at 4 months but unsure at this point.
The thing i was also thinking about was those seats that stick under the table so there is no tray just the seat but unsure.

This is going to sound silly but less baby stuff I can accumulate the better. The big useless ones I mean. As my tubes are out... no other ones planned! This one took 3 years.... : )

Ordered my dresser for Koltons room 4 weeks before he was born was told by bubs and grubs that it would take a week and still waiting. The twelve week time line is now up on Friday and I am so excited. Either I get it or
get my money back, either way have had way too much crap sitting in his closet and now I can officially put it away! Yaaaa.

Lmp- I used the bumbo for during the day when I started with kelti and Eden (both were 6 months though cos we do bls here) but they have their dinner in the high chair so they are up at the table with us :)

Ditto to what Mel said :) except for the bumbo bit as we don't have one

tams: i have a fandangle high chair, its big and nasty ;) with reclining seat. My bff uses the one from Ikea i think hers is wooden and she loves it cos its easy to clean. I can't wait to put Chase in his bumbo, at the moment i sit him in his high chair with it on recline when I eat so he can see me. bubs n grubs are whores...lol

sarah: shouldnt be a problem to go back to BFing, just keep up with xpressing to keep your supply going or like jaki said give boobie first then top up with formula after. Do you think its the supply of milk?? Maybe the domperidone would be worth a try if its the milk supply.

Tams- are you starting solids at 4 months?and i agree no more kids for me so i wont let hubby bye to many baby toys ect and the cot/change table and high chair we will put away for grandkids as my son is 18 so who knows when he will make me a nanna:o OMG at 37 hopefully not to soon and i just give away anything Ella grows out of or things we were given that i will never use.

When have you all started your other bubs on solids and when will you with this bub
when i had my boys oh! so long ago rule of thumb was to start solids at 3 months which was only farex and formula (do they still make farex) my boys all started with a little farex at 3 months at dinner time before a bottle.
Now its 6 months it is so confusing when everything changes over the years i wish they would stick to what they say and stop making us older mums feel like we did the wrong thing with our older kids.

I have my Happy baby back Ella has been her awesome self all day playing on her mobile mat gooing and garring and smileing away and sleeping really good and no more watery poos.

Ferrals - all mine were 6 months - the WHO recommends it so I go by their advice on this one :)

Plus it's so much easier to do bls and not have to prepare separate meals for bubs. But I'm pretty lazy lol!!

Arimeh-I was going to leave it til 6 months with Ella she is such a baby baby and i dont want to make her grow up to quick.

Ferrals I was putting thickener in Jayden formula but I got poopy with it and went and bought novalac reflux one today it's a bit more expensive ($25 a tin) but it apparently thickens in their tummy not the bottle. Will let u know tomorrow how it goes. He has had 3 bottles so far first was 4 hrs apart now only 2.5 so we will see. I called Karicare and they are sending me a free tin of their AR formula if this works I'm happy to send it to you or just call them and request a tin they send it to your local chemist for u to collect.

We had a good night last night. Slept from 8-830 till 5 I was shocked but I needed it cause I'm sick and I can't sleep during the day

hi all, i had to wake A up for a dry bum and bed lastnight, (pluss my bb were killing)she bf back to sleep with me and slept untill 10:30 (had a bf at 7) and i gave her a top up arround luch with formula, she has been such a grouch since, its like she has alot of wind but cant get it up, but if she has boob, she can burp/puke no problem, but still is grouchy, she was fine befor the ff :dunno: im just going to stick with bb feeding i think, least she wasnt a grizzle! i have gone out and stocked the freezer full of my favourite foods and am going to pig out, see how that works. (pluss the oven will help the house stay warm! lol)

Ferals: ill get shot saying this but, ds1 had his first taste of solids at 2 weeks. fil gave him a bit of spaghetti mince meat to suck on, apparently he was staring at the plate and said "granpa i want it" it became a regular thing were id catch fil giving him gravey, mash every seccond week.
both the boys were sampling fruit purees from about 4 months. krystal didnt have any untill 5 or 6 months.

ETA: just saw my ticker.... 2 months :o WOW!! so dosnt feel like it.

Sarah good luck with sticking with the bf. Ff is so hard to start off, especially if you were bf first as each bub is different. I got lucky with dd and first one I tried was fine. Hope A is in a better mood soon. xx

tams: OMG that website is classic, i should have put my complaint on there but then bubs n grubs would write back in the nasty way they have been on that site to the people who complain. I seriously can't believe people give them good reviews. im starting solids at 6 months but I think im going to start out with that thickener stuff (rice cereal??) in breast milk firstly towards the end of five months. then from there I dont know how to do it :) yet... hehehe

we did BLS with MJ as i couldnt be bothered preparing seperate meals and pureeing it all, plus i liked the fact that that they could choose what they put in their mouth and were less likely to be a fussy eater later in life - dont know if it was the bls or just MJ but she is a great eater and is rarely fussy about what is put on her plate - also her fine motor skills increased out of sight as soon as we started, nothing like having to chase a pea around the high chair to eat it!
I think that we started the week before she was 6 months olds as DSS was with us and he wanted to be there for her first meal and i didnt want to wait another 3 weeks as he was going away!

Ferrals - dont feel bad that you did things differently with other children, research happens all the time, i am sure that there will be things that we are doing now that will be a no no in a few years, but for me as long as i am following 'best practice' and what is recommended by WHO i know that right now i am doing what is best and if i look back and my kids or someone tells me that it is now wrong, well thats fine, the research hadnt been done iykwim. The reason the guidelines have changed is that they (WHO) now recognise that the stomach/bowel/ digestive system doesnt mature until around the 6 month mark... but there are three main indicators that the baby is ready to start, being the gag reflex, ability to sit up unsuppoted and .... mind blank bugger.... also they show an interest in the food and try to grab the food from plates and imitate eating.

Lisa - how are things going?
Sarah - hope you pigging out helps in the milk department - dont know if tha is what is helping for me, but i cant stop eating at the moment, in the evening i am soooo hungry.
Jaki - how was the movie?
Kitty - i know how you feel about your Mum, first time around Mum was up 2 days a week helping out and just being there to help, then she went to England for 2 months and i felt so lost to start with, but in the end it was really good for me as i started doing more and got out more :)
JJ - thanks for last week, had a great time and Elsie is sooooo cute, Jaycen too, MJ talked about it all the way home - sorry i was so frazzled, it was such a drama getting up and then when i thought i had lost my phone, it just tipped me over!

Hi to everyone else

Aurora has been really unwell with a cold and has had more than usual trouble feeding, most days we are having massive vomits and she is struggling to breathe... anyway, this morning i went in and she had blood crusted all over her nose :( took her to the doctors and they thing that she has been burning her nose when she is vomiting (it comes out her nose) and the cold has dried her out and it is irritating it further... now, before every feed i have to use the Fess up her nose, which is unpleasent to us both (to say the least)... also her ilk rash on her face has turned into like a cradle cap and i have to lather her face in pawpaw cream each 6-8 times a day - she is crying so much more and is obviouly really uncomfortable. It really sucks for her this week :(

I'm wondering how Lisa is also.

I have a Bumbo, also a 'little beetle' chair sling. I'd like one of those hangy chairs for the bench or table but I have a funny feeling it won't go under our table. Not sure we have room for a high chair!

Yeah it was me, at the dfo. There is a book also.

Kylz-I tried the NAN AR which is supose to thicken in their stomach not in the bottle but i found it did thicken in the bottle unless she drank it real quick so by the end of the bottle she was sucking real hard to get the milk out and if i put a faster flowing teat on she would gag and choke on the milk at the begining because it was comming out to quick before it started to thicken so i just settled on NAN HA and use a little karicare thickener 1/2 a scoop and i make all the bottles up before hand and they thicken in the fridge just enough so it's the perfect thickness when i tried adding the thickener just before feeding her it was clogging the teat so i gave up on that.
And so far she has been awesome on it feeding really well hardly any wind in the last to days and very little vomiting when burping her so fingers crossed i have found the right combo i gave up on karicare as she was bringing it all back up even the lactose free one NAN is the only one that seems to agree with her.

Sammie-Yeh i know what you are saying and i dont feel bad now my boys are healthy strong great kids who have always been excellent sleepers and eaters so i didnt do anything wrong but it is funny looking back at the differences.

Then Sleep bub on the belly-Now sleep only on the back.
Then breast feeding was not a big deal-Now it's a must do.
Then Make baby routine feed 4 hourly-Now it's demand feeding.
Then Controlled crying is the way to get baby self settle-Now its not recomended
Then Give panadole before needles-Now give only after needles if required.
Then Start solids at 3 months -Now dont start solids before 6 months

My sister and I were brought up on carnation tin milk (NOW NOT SUITABLE FOR INFANTS) we slept on our tummies were put on solids at 3 months and we survived and are happy healthy adults with normal IQ"s so a lot of what they say today i take with a grain of salt.
And i am not that old i am only 37 but had my 1st son 18 years ago.

been bad night here but not with Baby. dont want to go into in but I nearly left.

jayden doing well on the novalac. ive ust had a bottle sitting for over and hour and it didnt thicken although he has it at room temp i dont heat his bottles.

first day in cloth today so lets see how we go

Kylz: oh hun been through many a bad night non baby related. hope you guys can sort it out :hug: Chase has been in cloth for the past 5 days but I put him in cloth during the day and disposables at night :) I'm too tired and its too cold for me to stand in my laundry (which is in the garage) and rinse wee soaked inserts.

sammie: poor Aurora, that whole thing just sounds painful. Chase hates the fess up his nose but its either that or they be in pain or find it hard to breathe.

tams: i hadn't even thought about feeding the babies 'real' food yet, suppose i should do some research too. I didn't even know there were different ways to start, i just assumed everyone pureed. learn something new every day :)

ferrals: sounds like Ella is doing every well :) Chase has started back to his nice sleeping routine, bed at 9.30pm wake up 5.30am just in time to see dad off to work.

hope i didnt miss anyone, but hope you are all getting some sleep and some 'me' time in at some point :) we deserve it :)

I am in love with the furry suits they have at target, I got the monkey, the dog and the bunny hehehe and they are soooo warm and Chase looks so cuddly in them hehe I need to get him more sacks though, the one he has he vomited in and now he doesnt have one to wear to bed :(

Hi ladies,

Thanks for thinking of me. DS wasn't admitted last night as his feed volume had increased but still not ideal. We are sacking the paediatrician we saw last week. The visit to the Children's Hospital made me realise how incompetent he was. We have another recommendation so will follow that up. The Children's have also referred me to a maternal child health nurse at the hospital who specialise in feed refusal and she has already offered me some tips in managing the feeding sessions. It's all a bit scary because it is really being led by the baby rather than our need to feed...scary when you see how little they are demanding. Oh, I started documenting his food volume and wet nappies as I couldn't give really accurate information the first time I went to the hospital. I noticed that he has done a big vomit the last 3 times after taking Zantac. We are going to start a new medication later today but I can't remember what it is called.

I've stopped trying to attach DS to the breast (for now at least) and I'm not sure if I can go back to it when/if the feeding problems settle down. I miss my short stints of BF. I think for now I have to focus on the volume of feeding and will exclusively express BM, which is the primary feeding method anyway, so I can monitor DS intake. I guess that's where my energy has to be. I'm also sick of people raising nipple confusion with me so at least this way it will be clearer.

mmm...so much chatter about solids. I haven't really thought about it yet and not sure about all the methods as a first time mum. I do plan to see a dietician which someone from BB recommended to me as I have coeliac disease and I think there is way to introduce gluten in combination with breast milk (if I'm still doing breast milk feeding at that point). I want to try and get it right to reduce the chances of coeliac disease if possible.

Kylz :hug: sorry you are having a rough time. Yay for cloths, I love them. What sort have you got? I don't find them too much extra work. I just throw them in the machine at the end of the night. Removing poo is a bit annoying.

Sammie - :hug: sorry to hear that your bub is unwell, I know how overwhelming feeding issues can be.

Sarah - sounds like a really tricky situation with the feeding and weight gain. Feeding methods can be so emotional if other's are suggesting you need to change and the desire to change isn't coming from you. One girl in my mother's group tops up with formula after a BF due to low supply so you can do both if you need to.

It started over something as silly as rubbish in the car and OMG it just turned into something about EVERYTHING. we went through the I dont know why i married you and did you get preg to trap me. I think that is the bit that hurts me the most. we made the decision to have a baby together so how could that be trapping him. I realise now that getting married may have been dumb for my reasons on wanting to do it but whats done is done i guess.

I hate that he implies that I do nothing all day. so the house it a little untidy and there are clothes not folded in the lounge room. Who cares its not like anybody visits us anyway. its funny how was soon as you have a baby all those 'friends' u had before arent there anymore and dont bother to contact you.

He gets home from work and then sits on FB and all his car forums for hours and i told him he needs to hang with his son. did he think that i might like an hour break when he gets home. Will see what happens this arvo i guess. He had a go at me for sitting on here all day. Yes it might be on all day but im not sitting at it.
