Hi All,
Hey Bridg, that is great about your little fella!!! See mummies intuition is a great thing and you should never doubt yourself!!! Very pleased for you mate!!!
Snacks- sorry to hear your having a hard time of it with phoebe:doh: I know i am coping so well only cos Jemima is giving me such an easy time of it... I would be a wreck otherwise! But you keep strong and keep doing an amazing job! She may never know how many hours you spent walking the halls, but you know you can take pride that you are doing everything you can for your little girl!
AFM- MW came to see us again today. She was supposed to weigh Jem but she forgot her sling so will do it tommorow... oh well. MW was amazed at how well i was doing post c/s. I am able to get off couch now without bracing my stomach, and have greatly reduced all my pain killers, so very happy! I think i am doing so well cos i am in my own home and cos I have had good sleeps, which have helped me cope! We took our first venture outside today and DH and I went for a little walk near our house... was nice just pushing the pram and talking and stretching . Enough for me, hope your all doing well:)

Hi Mummies
Kat - dont fret re Ivy's milestones - I know what you mean though, as Bailey should really only be a month old I have to remember he is much littler than other full term babies, I understand completely where you are coming from. As for babies sleeping through the night for 8 hours - that is the exception rather than the rule, Bailey feeds about 3.5-4 hourly at night still (and I dont think its about to change)
Amy - re the bad night, you must be buggered. I have taken Bailey to bed with me a few times and laid him on my chest, will a pillow each side of me so I cant roll and he cant fall off and we sleep together, I usually only do this when all else fails as I sleep better with him in the cradle, but he stays asleep this way and I can sleep too. Last night about 4am we woke up to the sound of Bailey choking - it scared the living crap out of us, we were both out of bed in a flash, I ripped him from his cradle and whacked him on the back, he seems to have a bit of a cold and had all phlem in his throat which appeared to be the problem, I gave him a feed then took him back to bed with us so we could keep an eye on him. Stuff like that is scary and I worry about it happening again
Jess and Niadla - good to hear from you!!
Hi to all the other Mums :)
Paed appt today - Dr Power said Bailey was perfect - bless him!! He was really happy to hear that we are still breast feeding and gave Bailey the once over, very impressed with his development, he has grown 12cm since birth and put on 1.8kg and head circumference up 6cm - yaaaaaah
Bit tired tonight so will do more persies tomorrow

Hi All,
I have been reading, but with parents here have had less time for posting (also now we have relatives from Sydney in Mel for the week who drop in every now and again). All going well here CJ sleeps really well from midnight till about 6:30 or 7:00am and is also feeding very well (cold weather is not so good on my nipples but nothing too bad) and piling on the weight- so I am having a pretty easy time of it for the moment - I feel for all you guys who are not getting so much sleep, don't know how you do it, I was such a grouch on Sat because I felt a little bit tired and I am getting a fair amount of sleep. Went to the docs today to get CJ's hips checked again, still a bit of a click so got a referral for the ultrasound, but the doctor said even if ultrasound shows a problem as is caught early a harness for a few weeks should sort it out.
Bella & Kat - I relate to what you have both said about your births, I also have my moments where I feel like a bit of a failure, and like you have said rationally I know that did everything I could but is when am feeling a bit tired, and emotional or I think about having any more children - that I think mind starts playing tricks on me. The whole experience for me apart from the last few hours or epidural and c-section was actually very positive so I keep trying to remember that if I start thinking that I failed. The consultant who did the c-section told me there was know way in the position she was and being the size she was, which I try to focus on but occasionally I think what if I had done this maybe she wouldn't have been in that position etc etc - you can drive yourself mad!!!
Kat - Hope you enjoyed your first birthday as a mum
Naomi, Janelle, Krystie e - Read on facebook how much you guys are enjoying choosing outfits - I wish you could pick ones out for CJ, I am rubbish at it, been getting my mum to do it - as if left to me would only be in wondersuits! Maybe once my parents have left and I can organise some of the clothes to make stuff easier to find I will enjoy it more.
Love seeing everyones photos on facebook by the way.
-
vic - choosing clothes for a pink one is fun!! i love doing it when we go out - but we're somewhat limited in what we can put on Emmy Rose at the moment given we only have two outfits in 0000 for going out - and she is still a bit small for 000! we do cheat and put 000 on her sometimes, but so few outfits have "feet" in them, so we have to either do layers (like a light sleep suit under a lighter outfit) or we put tights on her - socks just don't cut it - she wiggles so much that she exposes her little legs and i don't want her getting cold. we only had one mini pair of tights (none available locally until size 0) so we ordered some from the net the other day and they arrived a couple of days ago. we can now dress her in cute clothes that are warm without too much added bulk! Emmy Rose hasn't left the house in a wondersuit yet! woot!
Bridg - glad you could get some relief with the goats milk formula. i'm thinking i might have to try an elimination diet for myself to work out whether something in particular is triggering miss E's wind dramas. although i don't think it's so much wind as her reluctance to burp cos she is very refluxy. seeing the MCHN on friday to find out who we need to take her to see to get something for it - poor bubba is very chucky - and it's very chunky when we're in the car. i feel for her - i get car sick even when i'm driving so i know how yukky it feels to be chucky in the car!
Bella - sounds like everything is coming along nicely for you hun. it's awesome when you can wean off the pain meds and start feeling like you're doing it on your own. i felt soooo much better being at home and not having someone say "ooh, you should take this to prevent it getting painful" - ummm how do you KNOW i'm going to feel pain if you don't let the pain meds wear off properly? i had to keep taking the anti inflammatory drugs for a while due to a lump where i had a clexane injection but apart from that, i took panadol once a day just to stop the ouchies when i was getting in and out of bed. that' the only time i get ouchies - i don't know if it's cos of laying still and then moving quickly to deal with the baby or what - it just feels stretchy and a bit sore. only other ouchy time was when i climbed the stairs at work the other day.
Amy - hope you have a more settled night tonight. it's hard when they just get sooooo tired and won't sleep! E has had a few night like that, but not too many. she "mostly" sleeps from around 10 or 11 through til 4 or 5 (so 5-6 hours) is then up for an hour or 90 mins by the time she feeds, burps, nappy change and back into bed etc. after that, we get maybe another 4-5 hours. she wakes up, has a play, nappy change, feed, and often will go back to sleep for another 2 hours or something. it's not properly settled sleep though so i'm not keen on leaving her while i jump in the shower unless i can tell she's in a proper sleep...
AFU - well, after the above sleep routine this morning, we managed to get mummy showered, dressed, fed before she woke up again. got nappies washed, DH's clothes in the dryer, sponge bathed and dressed E (wasn't prepared to fully bath her - too cold to go out after a bath!) and headed into town in less than 2.5 hours. was fantastic to feel like we'd achieved so much! my little girl is putting on weight for sure - not sure of the numbers (great growth by Bailey there Naomi!) - some of her "pretty nappies" now fit her properly around the chubby little legs! woot! so cute!! she's also got her first small spots of nappy rash so we're treating that straight away
her baptism is coming ahead in leaps and bounds planning wise. finally got to confirm time with the church (we're getting her baptised in a seperate ceremony rather than the main service so that they can do it at the church next door to us, rather than in the town 20k's away). so i have printed invites and made them all purddy, and got them ready for mum to post tomorrow. her gown is ordered and paid for. cake organised. ummmmmm, all we have to do now is clean the house up to make room for people staying, and organise food for the day - but that's small stuff - it's an arvo tea situation so not like we have to provide much... ooh, i might have to hide all of DH's alcamahol - well, the collectible stuff anyway - don't want anyone randomly grabbing a bottle of bundy that's worth over 500bucks!
-
BG how are you treating the nappy rash when in cloth? We're in cloth part-time (sposies at night and when we go out) and I'm finding that Ivy is getting a rash but only when in cloth. I read that you're not supposed to use many of the barrier creams as they stop the nappy from being as absorbent... so what do you do???
I treat it a bit by having as much nappy-off fresh-air time on the floor as possible which Ivy loves (but is not really making the rash go away). Today I'd left her on the floor like this and was in the kitchen making a cuppa and heard a big fart (hmmm nothing lady-like or delicate about this little lassie) ... and came back to discover that she had pooed all across the towel I put her on, onto the carpet and then was wriggling her legs around in it. Eeeeewwww!! Straight in the bath!
Hey Vic! Loving your facebook pics. Looks like your parents are besotted with your girl - who can blame them, she's gorgeous! Thanks for the birthday wishes. It was lovely to celebrate with my girl. Always thought I'd have a big crazy party for my 30th as I've always been a bit of a wild-child. It ended up being really low-key and most people were far more interested in Ivy than me, but it was great nontheless. It feels fitting to have begun a new decade just as I begin a new part of my life, so I'm not that fazed about hitting the big 3-0 either.
Naomi - thanks... I know it's to be expected with the premmie-factor. Really, she's doing so well now I'm really stoked just to be having her healthy and growing so fast (now 10 pounds!!). Glad you've had some great feedback from the Pead. Go Bailey go!!
Ivy and I have moved into her room. DH was reaching a dangerous point of sleep-deprivation - almost fell asleep at the wheel several times in the past week on the way to work in the wee-hours. Scarey stuff. He's also been snoring like a trooper (prob from being over-tired) and so I'm shoving him every 5 minutes and waking him up. Figured it was best if only one of us was exhausted and for now, that has to be me. Couldn't bear to kick Ivy out on her own just yet. I'm sure she'd be fine but I'm not ready to separate yet! So I'm in the spare bed for now which is a bit sad... I miss DH cuddles. Won't be forever though.
Blessings for big sleeps tonight Mummies!

Bridg: Am so pleased that the change in formula is helping Logan out. Well done for making such a good call.
Jess: WB. Wow, a job as well? You are a force to be reckoned with, LOL! Perhaps it is that Phoebs just wants to be with me, but she wants me standing up, LOL. When I try taking her to bed with me she still doesn't settle. Usually she bunkers down for the night some time between 9 and 11, then wakes around 12-1 and 3-4, then sleeps very lightly (and noisily) until around 6, then she's awake for a while. Tonight she spoiled me though - exhausted from not much sleep through the day perhaps, she crashed at 10:30 and didn't wake til 3. Just waiting now for her to stop wriggling about, then we'll go back to bed. But I'm not anticipating a great sleep... We'll see.
Bella: Glad your recovery is going so well.
Sorry, was going to do more persies but I think we are headed back to bed now. Hoping I can post tomorrow, but might have my hands full - no DH for the whole day (including Natty's bedtime tom night... eeek!). Wish me luck.
-
Naomi: How freaky @ Bailey choking! Sorry about the cold. Phoebs has one too, but its all in her nose. I have been using the Fess spray on her and it works a treat. Hooray that Bailey is growing so well!
Vic: Phoebs is mainly in sleepsuits too, though I do really like those Bonds leggings that look like jeans - I think they are gorgeous. The stuff Phoebe wears is mainly for warmth rather than looks, though some of her all-in-one suits she was given are pretty darn cute.
BG: Sounds Em's sleep pattern is a great routine. Yes, I think she was just so overtired she didn't know what to do with herself. But she made up for a wakeful day yesterday by having that brilliant sleep last night. I feel like a new woman today.
Kat: Do your cloth nappies have a microfleece inner, or liners? Fleece really helps to wick the moisture away from the skin. You can also get raw silk liners that are supposed to be good for nappy rash. When Natty got bad nappy rash I just used sposies until she 'dried out' and after that we used microfleece liners all the time and she was fine. Otherwise, if you change the nappy really often so it doesn't get very wet then that works too.
Ok, Phoebe is letting me know she's had enough of a kick. gotta go. Love ya's.

I'm so excited and happy!!!
I got a phone call from mum last night asking if her and dad could come over for a visit. When the doorbell rang I went and opened the door and standing there was my sister!!! I know that doesn't sound amazing BUT what's amazing about it is that she has been living in London for the last 2 1/2 years!
She really wanted to see Kyson, so she organised coming back for 10 days and didn't tell anyone. Apparently when mum got home from work yesterday afternoon dad was pretending to be talking to my sis on the phone. Then he gave the phone to mum to talk to her (my sis was on the work phone and mum was on the home phone) and my sis started saying hi and chatting to mum and was even faking a bad delay, haha. She told mum the line was really bad and that she would hang up and ring back. After she hung up mum was complaining to dad that it was the worst connection to London that she'd ever heard. Then my sister walked through the door and said "can you hear me better now?" !!! Mum cried of course hehe.
It was so fantastic to see her again. I miss her so much. She actually enjoyed her cuddles with Kyson which was great because she IS NOT a baby person and never wants kids herself. Kyson is the first baby she's ever wanted to hold. She even stood up and rocked him to sleep! Too cute! I'm so happyu that I'll get to see her over the next 8 or 9 days!
-
Oh that's so wonderful Krystie. Sisters are the BEST. Mine is the same - not really into kids - but has fallen madly in love with Ivy. It's so great getting to see the ones we love, fall in love!
Enjoy this precious time with your sis.
-
KL - that's so sweet! so glad that not only has your sister come home, but she's bonding with Kyson as well! i was the "i'm never having kids" sister when my bro's kids came along - and yet i couldn't help but snuggle them! stayed the same attitude til i seen DH with my bro's youngest (she was only a few months old when we got together) and it all kinda changed. i realised i wanted them cos i knew i had a partner that wanted them (if that makes sense?) - enjoy the next week or so with your sister - make the most of it while she's here!
Kat - we're using moo goo for the nappy rash - it's a bit more exxy, but it's natural and isn't a barrier cream as such - it's more a treatment. if you google moogoo and then look for the one that has MSM on the label. it smells divine! and the spot of NR i found yesterday is gone today so it must work ok. it's a milk based product and, having used their shampoo/conditioner/bodywash myself, i highly recommend it. on their site, it has a list of retail outlets that stock their stuff - there may be one near you. there is also a paw paw cream but i can't remember which one - it has to be the one that isn't petrochemical based. be careful of synthetic liners that wick away moisture - for some bubbas they're fantastic (seems to have worked for Amy - lucky lady!) but for others, esp those with sensitive skin, it can cause all sorts of rashes much worse than she has now. i have very sensitive skin myself so am trying to avoid anything synthetic - i did get some raw silk liners from one place but for the life of me i can't remember where - i figure they'll come out if we get bad nappy rash... if you need to use barrier creams (sudocream etc) use them when she's in sposies or get nappy liners so that the actual cream doesn't come in contact with your nappies. hope that helps hun
AFU - not a baaaaaaad night but not great - being awake with a bubba cat napping from 4-6.30 doesn't make for a happy mummy! five dirty nappies overnight so not sure if i've eaten something that hasn't agreed with her, or whether the cold she has is making her tummy yukky or something. i know she's gulping at the breast a lot cos her nose is snuffly, and she's still a shocker with burping, so maybe it's just wind issues... hope it's nothing more. i actually gave in about 6am and rang DH just to feel like someone was there with me.
-
Cara has started smiling!!! Love it!! She smiles at teddy bears above her change mat too!
Getting headaches a bit...but they come and go. Feel good otherwise.
Finding it hard during the day to do things as Cara cap naps a lot and prefers Mummy's arms!
Hope you are all good and lovin Mummyhood! :D
-
Oh very cute Cathy!
hi everyone!
Just a quick Question..... are most of the bubs not having a dirty nappy at every change?? Allira has gone from a dirty happy every change, to skipping 2 nappy changes and on her 3rd one, it's an explosion. 3 days running now at 11am, she's woken for her feed and I've had to change her, give her a bath and wash the bouncer cover because she's pooed so much. I can't remember it happening this early with DS.
She also only has 5-6feeds a day adn one overnight. Lately at night, she's only wet her nappies so it's been good at 5am not having to wipe a pooey bum.
Hope you are all well. DS is keeping me busy, and i haven't had much time to get in AND get hosuework done, although I did make time for myself last night to go to an exercise class and leave hubs at home with the kids for the first time.
xxoo
-
Nicky - oh pooooo. Why do we fret so much about it?! My MCHN said that it's the thing that most Mums ask about and that mostly, it's all fine! Ivy has gone from pooing every change, to all of a sudden nothing for 4 days (I was freaking out!), massive poo-splosion, 3 in a row, nothing for 24 hrs.... ARGH I wish it was slightly more predictable! The other day she had been saving it for 3 days and then shared in spectacular style right at the end of my birthday party!! So... I'd say it's all normal. From what I've read, it's ok if it's anywhere between every few hours and only every few days. HTH
-
we're still getting poop at most changes - anything from a little "oops" kinda skiddy - like she's fluffed and made a bit of a mess, to full on ick everywhere! thankfully we've only had one actual explosion about 10 days back - her little legs just weren't chubby enough for the cute nappy i put on her and she filled it in style! what a way to meet the rello's - they walked into mum's as i was changing this screaming, poop covered bubba - lucky them! i blamed my dad - it was the day he woke her - told him that he gives us all the s***s and E was just the latest victim and showing him what he'd done! hehehe
-
I've even gone up one nappy size to crawlers. They fit Allira well, but they cannot possibly contain that type of explosion. haha
I know that BF babies can go up to 10 days without anything.... but yeah She's only 6 weeks tomorrow and I thought it started later on.
Ah the things you forget second time around.
Thanks girls!
-
Oh and cloth at this stage for me is a no no. haha.
Well done to you girls using cloth on newbies!
I use cloth for DS... DD won't be having that privellege until she's out of the sloppy stage, because I am far too lazy.
LOL
-
BG - Is the Paw Paw you mention the Lucas Paw Paw Ointment in the red tube? If so I agree, I use this stuff all the time (pimples, everything) and it rocks - its great for babies dry skin too, it says on the tube for nappy rash too - Bailey had a dry forehead and it worked a treat - you can get it from chemists and Target for about $5, its all natural
Krystie - that is awesome re your sister - enjoy the next few special weeks
Bella, Kat and Vic - I really feel for you re births not going how you planned, its definately such a big life event and after 9 months of anticipation you have every right to feel how you do. While I cant imagine exactly how you feel re c/s, I do know how it feels to have some disappointment around the experience as Bailey was taken to the special care nursery after a few minutes on my chest so I didn't get to BF him or have those special few first hours or hugs, I didn't get to hold him again until 24 hours later - and I'm still p***ed off that but rationalise it that he needed the care more than he needed his Mummy at that point. Have made up for it with plenty of cuddles since!
Niadla - same as Kat re poo - Bailey poos maybe every 3rd feed now - and have had some ripper poo explosions, perfectly normal! Nice work re the exercise class
Cathy - awesome re Cara's smiles, isn't it just the most precious thing to see?
Amy - we should start a sleep deprivation support group - LOL Bailey feed FIVE times between 1130 and 5am last night - I am a zombie today. He is just falling asleep now, I need him to have a nap so I can cut his nails, he has 4 cuts on his face, I only cut them a few days ago - far out, I feel like a bad mother, he looks like he has been in the wars.
Anyway, I have been trying to write this post since midday, sorry to all those I didn't get too, I'm giving up for now
Naomi

BTW girls I was thinking of changing my username since I no longer have a 'belleh'. Any thoughts on good names. Perhaps a play on words with my name or Ivy's?? I have a couple of ideas that are more to do with my spirituality or fascination with all-things psychology but am keen for suggestions.
While we're at it... what inspired your username? Some are pretty obvious, but others are a bit more obscure!
