the amber teething necklaces release oils into the skin - i have one for E and when i put it on her she just ignored it. also got one for me which is helping with headaches and things. one of the other ladies on here (BW) has chronic arthritis and has found hers helped her a lot. FWIW - i've done a fair bit of reading about them (was a sceptic) and the one thing that has consistently come back is that the bracelets aren't as effective - not sure if it's location or the amount of surface area available with the necklaces. standard baby necklaces are about 33cm - E wears hers under her clothes. i read somewhere on here recently that someone was advised to make it long enough for baby to chew - i'm pretty sure that isn't the case at all - they're more for releasing the oils. if you google amberbebe they have a good range. sunshine n lollipops also have them. i got mine from amberbebe and it was delivered in 3 days via normal post.
Vic - how is Cerys going with the brace? is she getting used to it? i haven't commented much cos i simply have no idea what either of you are going through and don't want to sound like a nuff nuff!! i can imagine how hard it would be to see your bubba so frustrated though - it's heartbreaking. hope it works quickly and Cerys is able to ditch it soon!
Jacinta - sounds like you had a shocker yesterday! cars and hot water services are soooo not fun!! my hot water service at the old house split through the belly so was leaking water - on a friday night with a public holiday on monday - talk about timing!! thankfully we have a friend who works in plumbing supplies so first thing tuesday morning i had a new one installed (and a payment plan to pay it off - they're exxy!) - but four days of icy water in winter - i didn't realise how often i used the hot tap to take the chill off the water! had to boil water for washing dishes - and went to mum's for showers. hope you get yours fixed soon hun
Bridg/amy - anxiety is a biatch!! i have suffered from it (and depression and panic attacks) for ages - it drives me nuts!! thankfully with counselling and the skills learned in calmbirth course, i've been able to keep them at bay for the past six months or so. have only had one full attack since E was born - and that was last week - so i'm doing heaps better. i was pretty concerned about developing PND so have been proactive in working through the issues. hope no one here ends up with PND - but if you're struggling, get help - and talk to us - that's what we're here for!!
Naomi - can't believe Bailey looks like he's teething already - poor poppet!! and poor mummy - he's really young to be teaching not to bite lol. E already chews on the puke rag if she can get hold of it, so bailey is old enough to chew on a cold damp rag with you supervising.
AFU - we're almost ready for the baptism - more cooking next two days, vacuum the main parts of the house, make up some beds (Rayray staying tomorrow night, one set of godparents and five of their kids staying Sat) - and DH to hang some tarps around the carport just to block out weather. yesterday we had a bit of a slack day cos E wasn't particularly helping - but we did managed to clean out all the votive candle holders, scrub them (hadn't been used from BFP until last week so pretty dusty) and refill them all - took 44 candles! plus 2dozen tealights... the house smells divine though - and we're not burning them yet!! just have to replace the ones in our room now (10 of them) and we're all up to date... can you tell i'm a candle freak??? that part took almost 3 hours around miss E and her demands!! mum came out last night and we managed to get 2 good hours of cooking, plus another hour for DH after E and I went to sleep - made 6dozen pizza pinwheels, about 50 mini quiches, and then DH made 2dozen mini apple pies! gotta love him - he didn't want to waste pastry lol! today we'll be making a couple of slices, more sausage rolls, a fruit salad cake (mmmmmm yummmm), maybe some diabetes friendly cookies. thankfully mum is coming out tonight to help - and a friend said she'd probably pop out during the day too. in amongst that we have to clean the last two rooms, and DH has to do a 250k round trip to pick up his truck (we think) - ahh the joys!

Well, given that Vic is away for October and someone else said (sorry, can't remember who) that Oct wasn't the best for them, it looks like November is the next best bet.

Naomi, we've just had a bit of a weird shift too... perhaps it's the age as Ivy is 3 months next Monday.?? She's gone from cluster feeding from 7pm till midnight, to sleeping HEAPS. This morning (after 12 hours sleep without really waking during feeds) she went beck to sleep after a 10 min play. Had me a bit worried so I'm glad she's not the only one.

first weekend in Nov shoudl be ok - will we be inviting hubby's? Melb cup that week (either just before or just after) so DH will possibly be home for a few days - and i like having the back up with E! if we're having a hubby free outting, i'll send him off to do some window shopping - point him at a garden shop and he'll lose himself for the day (i'll just hold onto the cards...)

Kat - whats Ivy's development like in the neck strength/head dept?
Can she lift her head up when doing tummy time? Can she push herself up at all? (with arms etc)
Bailey cant - I think he may within the month but just wondering seeing Ivy was early and at a similar point. He loves to wobble his little head about after I burp him (so sitting up) but otherwise he's not interested
Bailey is 3 months TODAY - wow!!

Well CJ seems to be back to her normal happy self - the hospital said two days of anger/frustration, and she was ok yesterday and last night back so right on schedule. I am used to it now and am coping with the tricky nappy changes pretty well now, she has to go on her front so I can feed the nappy behind the bar at the back, so is getting lots of tummy time now. The most difficult bit is no baths! Just a sponge bath she is allowed and that just isnt as much fun - hopefully when we go back in four weeks the left hip joint (which was very shallow) will have stabilised enough that we will be allowed to take the brace off for baths. She is confined to jumpsuits now though as anything with a waist will not fit over her legs in their splayed position - we have quite a lot of large jumpsuits that people have given us so she is into "baggy styling" at the moment. Baby market in Camberwell on Sunday so will be going to get some more cheap wondersuits . Thanks everyone for your support on here is great to be able to talk on here, DH is great but I think is only other mums who can really understand how sooky it makes you seeing your bub unhappy.
BG - I am amazed at how much you are doing for the baptism - you are really cooking up a storm - I don't think I have cooked since CJ was born! Hope the baptism all goes well.
Naomi - I can't believe Bailey is 3 months either. A friend who has two children one nearly two and one eleven months younger got amber necklaces for both hers during teething and said seemed to work on one and not the other
Kat - I am actually still in the UK that first weekend in Nov - arrive back 8th - but I am sure we won't be able to get a date suitable for everyone, so as long as someone promises to take lots of photos, if that date works for everyone else I don't mind missing out this time. We should meet up sometime though, I have some friends who live in the same council as you and say the library do a good story/sing time for babies - so I could pop to Croydon and say hi and then could go to the library (I think said Tuesday arvo for Croydon).
Oh and the discussion about sleep wear - actually had the same with two friends yesterday! I had been just putting CJ in a vest then wondersuit and then a 2.5 grobag equivalent and her room is 19 degrees. But I think maybe that she could do with something more on her arms (friends seem to put alot more layers on their bubs) according to the grobag guidelines should have two layers on her arms, so last night put another thin layer and she did sleep a bit longer so maybe she has had cold arms! Her hands are always cold in the morning, but as she refuses to wear mittens then she will have to live with that!

Naomi- You may want to steer clear of bongela, I can't remember what it causes but their was a tv report that it causes health complications... nasty ones, I remember thinking at the time that I would never be able to use it now.
Vic- So glad to hear CJ has settled and become accustomed to her brace. I guess we all knew she would be a champ for you and settle quickly but I think everyone of our mummy hearts broke for you having to watch her pain and frustration until she did.
Jacinta- Glad to hear that your heating is all sorted... it must be so cold down south there. I feel for you all but without hot water it must be murder!
AFM- Well we have had a good and bad couple of days. Firstly Jemima has settled down into her bassinet really well and I think it is helping her sleep better cos we put her into the bassinet in our room and put on monitor and then have some parents time alone which is good for us. and good for her cos I have been leaving her still when i come to bed and she isn't being disturbed by the process of our settling. I am also feeling like I have my bed back and can move!!!! I think i was getting stiff from staying in one position most of the night and I am sleeping better for that and for not being pawed all thru the night.
On the bad note I developed mastitis about 3 days ago and ended up with really high temps of near 40degrees:( So that wasn't fun.. the temps came up really suddenly and i felt like hell. Jemima chose that moment to want to go on a feeding marathon, of like 5 hrs straight the first night which was good for draining my breast but so tiring having to hold her and comfort her for so long. She literally only let DH hold her for 1/2 hr at one point before screaming for booby! oh well. I am feeling heaps better today.
On the other good point, last night J slept from 8pm-4am then again till 8.20 after a quick feed... such a good girl!!! And she has spent most of the day asleep! Maybe a growth spurt thing?
Sorry for not alot of persies. Will have to apologise and do more next time. still feeling a little knackered and will plead exhaustion.

Kyson rolled over today!!! All by himself! We were so proud :) I'm kicking myself because just before he did it I grabbed the camera, then got so excited watching him actually do it that I forgot to record of photograph it! :doh: Oh well, at least Daddy was home to see it all happen. Once he rolled onto his back I think he startled himself, because just after that he decided that he really wanted to be picked up hehe. I'm so happy he did it, but I'm sure that once he gets the hang of it and does it more and more I will start to wish that he never became mobile! Oh my, we're going to have to start being more careful at change time on the change table...

hiya ladies!
it's a gorgeous day today and i'm in a surprisingly good mood given E had her worst night in weeks last night (including wetting mummy's bed during nappy change time!). anyway - i'm still chipper which is rather novel - watch me crash and burn after the weekend though! lol
MCHN appt today - was made to feel like a crap mum simply because i chose not to join a mothers group - i would have joined had it been more local - but i already travel 20k's to MCHN and it was almost double that distance! hell no! i mentioned that there were others with bubbas similar age out here, and i thought we might try and get together - and was told that "you need education, not just contact" - yeah, cos i'm DUMB!! stupid wench (fill in biatch - normal MCHN better be back next month). she tried everything - guilt (well, there is already one girl from your town coming in, it's not too far for HER - you need to learn about your baby etc) and then made out like i was bad because i said i'd rather not commit to anything due to DH's work being so unpredictable - there might be times when he's not home, but if he's home, he takes priority - apparently that's not an appropriate attitude! pfft! E was cracking it big time so i just asked if there was anything else we had to cover for the blue book, cos i'd like to get home, told E i'd get her home to daddy as soon as the lady let us leave, and got up to walk out... hehehe - don't mess with me lady! i do have questions about how chucky E is, but i'll ask the GP next week - wasn't wasting my time with her (would have with the normal MCHN). as soon as we walked out of the room, E was all smiles - don't think she liked her either hehehe. good thing i dont let stuff like that get to me or i'd have been a mess by now. hell, she didn't even mention 8 week immunisations - hello!!!
ok, E's stats (after all that waffle) - 4.810kg - up 680ish grams from her 4 week check. head circ up to 39.5 (boof head like her daddy!), and length up to 56.5cm. yay my girl!
sorry for lack of persies - i will happily admit i'm being a self absorbed wench for the moment. have just cut up my first ever attempt at a slice (i prefer savoury food so never bother making sweets) - it's sooooo rich but tastes damn good! yayayay me! it worked! lol. i put it in a container at the back of the fridge so that i wouldn't pick at it - the realised i put myself at eye level with the sausage rolls DH made last night - sigh - the food fairies are trying to tempt me! heheheh
okies - must run and do stuff - DH is fiddling around outside, Rayray is on her way here - and i still have crap that needs to be stashed somewhere - and then daddy can vacuum while rayray and I and our bubbas hide somewhere quieter. good thing he's domesticated!!
for those i'm not friends with on fb (is there anyone? can't remember sorry!) - i'll post a link to photos of E after her baptism - hopefully tomorrow night, but we have one set of her godparents pplus five of their kids staying, a couple of BB'ers staying local - and no idea how many stragglers will be here for dinner and drinks tomorrow night - so i might not get my sanity fix lol

Phew, long day and almost time for bed but thought I'd pop in briefly... to discover it's all a bit quiet in here today! What are these babies up to? Keeping their mummies busy?!
Had a chat with BG this morning re meet-up dates thanks to the wonders of facebook IM. Thanks BG!! :clap: This woman is far more organised and on the ball than I am in spite of her aforementioned lack of sleep, so we're getting closer to some dates that don't clash with major sporting events, holidays or family celebrations! Oh how motherhood has changed me in ways I never imagined... I was once an intelligent, organised, professional woman. Now I require relative strangers to assist me with the use of a calendar! (Sorry, it has clearly also made me sightly delirious at this hour)!
SO: We... (read: BG, with me nodding sagely like I had thought of it at just the same time) were thinking of having two meet-ups... an earlier informal one - sooner and poss not all can come, and then a bigger shindig in the lead up to Christmas to which hopefully more of you can come and we can do Kris Kringle for the bubbas and other fun stuff!
No 1: September 7th, 8th, 9th, 15th or 16th - Any of these days that really wouldn't (or really would) suit someone? Otherwise I will once again pick one arbitrarily!
Location yet to be decided but trying to find a pram / baby friendly cafe somewhere close to, but not in the CBD.
No 2: November 21st or 22nd (Weekend) - again, any preference for the Sat or Sun??
As you can tell, I'm big on the executive decision making here... how did I come to start organising this anyway???!:doh: BUT, if you don't cast your vote in the next week, I'm just going to decide and announce dates and venues. (PLEASE let me know if you've got any good ideas for venues too).
Oh and before I pass out... Naomi, Ivy is doing OK (ish) with the tummy-time thing. She can hold her head up for a while but not very high. (Not like the amazing Mr Kyson in that facebook pic... Krystie he is so strong!!). She does it better when I prop her elbows right up under her and her hands are almost together - if her hands are too wide she just face-plants and then gets REALLY frustrated. It's interesting that they all develop different aspects at different paces. In many respects Ivy is still about 7-8 weeks behind. She has only really just started the social smile, making eye contact and can now track a bit more with her eyes - stuff you might expect to see in 6-8 week old, and she's almost 3 months. But in terms of some of the physical things - weight, length, neck strength... she's almost 'age appropriate'. Sounds like Bailey is perhaps the other way 'round. That socially he's really engaging and interacting but he's still catching up with the physical stuff. I don't doubt that he's getting stronger every day and that he'll be doing push-ups in no time... but until then, don't stress hun. (easy for Kat the stress-head to say!!). I've resolved to just enjoy watching Ivy develop in her own time. To try and support her with plenty of stimulation, engagement and opportunity... and if she's not ready for the next milestone yet, I'm not going to freak out. I'm more than happy to settle for the best cuddle I've ever had!
Woah, I'm a wee bit ranty tonight. Think I'm over-tired. Might start to chew on my fists and grizzle now... someone best put me to bed. :asleep:

Stranger me here! :) Cara is growing well, 8 weeks today! Won't be long til I have to get her immunised. :(
Her belly button seems much better now and has closed up more. :)
I have a bit of mastitis/blocked duct at the moment. Felt cold and then hot last night. I have been massaging it and feeding her heaps on that side, so hopefully it will clear up soon (had this about a month ago).
Hope you're all coping well! I haven't had Cara on her tummy much, so she needs more practise there, otherwise she's growing well! Got some gorgeous pics of her today! My favourite pics of her so far!

Cathy: Aw, Cara is so cute! Sorry to hear about the blocked duct - what a bummer. Phoebe hasn't had much tummy time either. I have been quite lazy with her, poor little thing.
P had her needles at the 6 wk check - it was fine. She was ok and settled with a cuddle.
Kat: Love your attitude toward Ivy's development. I am much the same this time round - happy to let P go at her own rate. I was quite stressed about it with Natty and she wasn't even early. LOL @ chewing the fists and grizzling. Last night I was so tired - Phoebe was playing and I was the one crying my eyes out!
BG: How was your big weekend? I hope Em's baptism was wonderful and that you all had a fabulous time this weekend with friends and family.

baptism and today's birthday get together were fantastic - am in the process of tryingt o upload some piccies - wish that the stupid bulk uploader on fb would stop crapping out! here's hoping it gets it's butt into gear - it's crapped out more than once

Naomi- Jake and Zac were 5.5 weeks early, and it took them til about a year old to 'catch up'. It might be different with a singleton though.
AFU, Not much has been happening. I have been lurking on here, but everytime I try and post, I get interrupted, but I have been catching up with a few of u mummies on FB. Logan has the MCHN on Thursday and a hearing test on Wednesday.

E's baptism was just perfect - she was a dream the WHOLE weekend. she didn't cry once in church - was awake most of the time, watched the priest, smiled at him, let him do all that had to be done - even answered him when he spoke to her! it was gorgeous. she kept up the good behaviour while being passed around to everyone all afternoon, settled for everyone when she was antsy unless she wanted a drink. i got in trouble from one of the godfathers cos his 15 and 17 year old daughters were far too clucky with E. heheheh
got to catch up with some fantastic BB ladies - and met some i hadn't met before (but have been "friends" with for a long time) - it was fantastic. there was some major clucking happening!! Got to see Amy's SIL again - was excellent spending time with her again.
we finally got to bed properly around half 11 last night - and i told E that mummy was tired. and she needed to sleep til atleast half 6 next morning - she woke at 6.31 this morning! what a good girl. she was fantastic again today, even being handed around and everything.
we got some gorgeous gifts for E - opened them all last night and then went through them again with Daddy today. she is one very lucky little princess
ooh, we also got the pics that were taken when she was only a couple of weeks old - i am so torn! 45 reallly good pics - and i only want to print a couple! sooooooo glad i got some creative memories digi scrapbooking software - bring on the photo books!
must away - time for ice cream then off to bed - our DVD player in the bedroom reads USB drives so DH is going to look at the photos that were taken - soooo much easier than on the laptop.
