Happy 1st birthday Noah!!! Hope you have had a wonderful day :)
Megan, I remember working FT when Joshua was little and omg it is so tiring indeed! I've started contemplating something casual myself but just on a w/e cos I can't afford the daycare for 2 of them. If they were both in I'd end up paying most of my pay to daycare. I'm also contemplating studying Cert IV in Community Services but I'm not sure if I will be able to afford to do it just yet... one price I've seen for it is $10,000! Probably not a lot compared to some courses, but it's certainly making me have to really think about what to do. PMSL @ Noah playing hide n seek. Aren't they funny now! Elijah was ducking sideways to hide behind the bench the other day then popping out so I could see him from the lounge.
I've been reminiscing a little lately and remembering back a year ago and thinking wow I was still preg this time last year and also remembering a lot of the details in my mind about when labour started etc... it's kinda cool - well to me anyway.
Sarah and Mel... happy 30th girls!!
Sarah, a joint party is a cool idea :) We are having Elijah's party next Sun (18th) which is also my friend's 40th lol. Ollie is a little daredevil isn't he! Very cute one though.
Mel, omg bruises... all my boys always seem to have a bruise, scratch, cut or something!! Joshua gets them from attempting bmx jumps etc... Oskar cos he never slows down and Elijah cos he's like a bull at a gate and I mean literally. He's rather funny sometimes and will crawl over and start to push you with his head if he's tired or wants you to get out of his way lol.

Hi girls, been a while! How are you all going?
We are all pretty good here, though very tired. Edward is getting his eye teeth and we have had 2 terrible nights in a row. We had gotten him sleeping through for a couple of weeks so it is a real shock to the system.
I finally managed to get Edward off the boob. It took ages, he really wasn't keen to give it up. It has now been 3 weeks since his last feed and still no normal cycle for me, so I think I was right in assuming that I needed to ween him to be able to get pregnant again any time soon.
He has a few words now, and is very good at following instructions. He answers yes and no if you ask him about drinks, food, playing outside etc, and get things that you ask for. It is so cute. He really loves dancing! He walks up and pats on our speakers and says dance, then promptly starts dancing to no music with a big grin on his face. :) My 2 boys dancing together is a sight to behold.
Daycare is going well now. Byron loves it and is excited to go, Edward only cries on the days he is tired or not feeling 100%. I am sooooo over work though. I just want to get UTD quickly so I can look forward to going on leave again. Only 1 more work day before the holidays thiough.
Anyway, better go, my teething boy is sooking for cuddles.
Hope you and your bables/ toddlers are well.
-
Hi girls, I hope everyone is doing well.
I thought I'd let you all know that Ollie is in an ad! It has just started being shown. It's the Babylove nappy pants ad, it has a gorgeous bulldog at the beginning. I haven't seen it on the tv yet though, so exciting!
-
I saw that ad last night. Will have to pay more attention next time. How exciting!
Where is everyone else??
-
Hello, I'm here too. I pop on every few days for a peek.
I saw the ad. Very cute!! You have a star on your hands.
All good here. DD just turned 3 and has been driving me nutty with her constant whinging. Dont know what to do about it. Can be just divine at times though and I'm sure it's all a part of wanting and trying to be more independent. DS is just gorgeous and still feels like a baby as HE ISNT WALKING YET!!!! This is a huge shock for me as DD took her first steps just before 9 months of age, where as DS couldn't give a hoot. He is way cruisy and almost totally opposite to DD in many ways. We though DD was affectionate, until DS came along. He's certainly a mummy's boy.
I gave up BF only a few weeks ago too Mel, reluctantly at first. DS was a huge booby boy. All went well though and I have my own body back now.
Been training for a little while to do an 11 km run at the end of July and feeling pretty good. Although I've always been fit, I've never been into running, but it's cheap and I can do it by myself or with others.
Working 2 days a week and working out well, although work is a low priority and I'm certainly not putting as much time into it as I did pre children. I'm learning to work smarter rather than harder.
Not much else to report other than this weekend DH and I are finally going away and leaving the kids at home. It's our first time away without the kids in 3 years!!!! Wow, where did that time go?
Hope this find you all well.
-
We're obviously all busy these days... has been very quiet in there the last few months!!
nellnell, Noah isn't walking yet either! He has only just started walking while we hold his hands, but otherwise he has just been cruising the furniture himself. He's in no rush.
He's such a gorgeous, cuddly affectionate little boy. I get so many cuddles and kisses these days. He has just started saying a few words 'gog' is dog, and 'all gone' when he's finished his dinner, drink etc., Day care is finally getting a little better. Not so sad at drop off time and he ends up having a good day each time. He was a bit upset this afternoon when DH picked him up. They said they had just changed his bum and had bad nappy rash and the skin was broken :( When I went through his bag at home, I realised they had changed his nappy TWICE all day and one of those was at 4pm. No wonder he has a sore bot. They keep telling us that we should change to disposables (we use MCN) as he wont get it then. We went away for 4 days last week and I used disposables all that time, but by day 3 his little bottom was the worst it's ever been so there goes that theory. Personally, I just think he is prone to it so frequent changes, some soothing cream and some nappy free time seem to be doing the trick when he's at home.
Anyway, it was looking much better by the time he went to bed tonight. Going to have to have words with them in the morning when I drop him off so we can try and get on top of it again. His bottom is always fine for the rest of the week and then back to day care and it gets worse again. That's my gripe with day care.... other than that, it's all good! lol
Working 3 days (15 hours total) and bored out of my brain. I sit there bored thinking about all the stuff I could be doing if I were at home. I'm not the kind of person that can just sit there... I went to work for a bit mental stimulation and it's not happening! Will stick it out until the end of the year and work out what I want to do then. Noah is changing so quickly, that I feel like I'm missing out and would love to be back at home full time again.... but ultimately, I know that I would want to work at least a few hours.
Sarah, I haven't seen the ad yet so I will have to keep an eye out!
Mel, good luck with TTC :) Hope it happens for you quickly!
enough rambling from me.... how is everyone else going?
-
Megan, I would definitely complain about only 2 nappy changes! I am pretty sure regulations say they must be changed every 2 hours even in disposibles. My boys use cloth at home and we have never had a problem with nappy rashes. I find they get more rashes when we are away and using disposibles all the time too.
Sarah, Ollie looks really grown up in the ad. Very cute. Edward is really tall but still has no hair so looks younger.
It is really funny thinking some of the babies in this group aren't walking. My boys were walking so early that I just can't imagine it any other way. Edward dances around whenever there is music and lately he has been skipping and hopping. He is actually leaving the ground! That freaks me out. He climbs on everything too. Pulls chairs from one side of the room to the other so he can climb up and get things down. They pick up all the older children's bad behaviours so early!
He has been coming out with a new word every other day lately. No sentences yet, but lots of words and general babbling.
No luck TCC before having to have a period again. Got my first 1 on Friday, nearly 7 weeks after weaning Edward. :( Over the weekend I was doubled over the cramps were so bad. I had to take super codiene painkillers just to function. It was awful. I also put on 4 kg of what I assume is water. I feel like a blimp, but I assume it is temporary. It throws my timing out too... I didn't want to go back to work next year, but I will probably have to work at least part of term 1 2011 now.
Anyway, better go,
Melanie.
-
nell, when is your run? How is training going? I did a 10km run on the weekend in ! hr and 5. I was a bit diappointed with that, but hadn't trained properly so am hoping that in the next one in August I can go under an hour. Good luck with it if it is still coming!
-
Mel, that sounds awful. All the bloating and pain. I've been lucky and haven't had a painful AF at all since she returned (and that was a year ago even with b/feeding), no noticeable bloating, nothing like that. It's weird. It all of a sudden just happens and then it's over in a couple of days. Considering all the pain I used to get before pregnancy, this is a nice change!
I can't even imagine having a toddler that's jumping and skipping and dancing around! lol When did Edward walk? I remember it was early, around 10 months or so?
Today, Noah has just been practicing standing unassisted and he's very impressed with himself! lol there wont be any jumping, skipping hopping around here for a while!! ;)
"All gone" are his words of the moment. This afternoon and tonight, everything was "all gone". Finished watching Hi 5 DVD - "all gone", Dinner when finished - "all gone", finished drink - "all gone", finished reading a book - "all gone", me emptying the washing basket - "all gone", emptying the bath - "all gone". It has been such a fun day (even though I worked half of it). I just can't believe how quickly they pick things up at this age.
Oh, and nappy rash is much better. Yesterday they changed him 3 times (I drop him off at 8.30, so let's say they changed him at 10.30, 12.30 and 2.30, and the we picked him up at 3.30) so that's much better. He is still pretty upset getting his nappy changed as obviously it hurts, and didn't end up having a bath tonight as he couldn't sit down. He tried a few times and just screamed so we just washed him with a facewasher and got him out. So, it's a bit stingy I imagine. I'm going to buy a couple of those raw silk liners and see if they help at all.
It's after midnight. I should get some sleep :)

Megan - glad to hear my DS is not the only slow walker. I was worried until a few weeks ago when he started taking a little interest in it. He's now able to take about 10-12 steps between furniture/people, but unfortunately often aims for his sister (expecting her to stay still) and ends up face first on the floor. He's very proud of himself when he makes it though. Great to hear that the ccc has improved with the nappy changing. One of the mums in my mothers group puts her little one in at 7.30am with a pick up of 5pm, and one day she had NO CHANGES. Appalling.
DS isn't saying any words yet. DD was a late talker but got it together by 2. It's quite weird though as our household is very verbal. I'm reading and talking all day long to both kids. Must just be in the genes.
Mel - bummer about the painful AF. Hope it gets better next time. I waas like that after DD. Luckily only had 2 cycles the UTD again. Good luck with TTC.
On that same note, I actually tested yesterday but got a BFN. Kind of relieved that it was negative. We're in the process of renovating and own 2 houses, one on the market but not likely to sell quickly. Were not really in the position financially to have another bub, but I'm so desperate to have another sometime in the next 2 years. DH isn't so keen (mainly practical reasons). See general chatter thread for more info. I can see positives in only having 2 kids, I just feel like my family isn't complete yet.
Great time in your run Mel. I'm just hoping to run without stopping! I've never been a runner so this is a huge thing for me. I'm finding that the 3-5km part is the testing bit where I have to talk myself into continuing. It's still not comfortable. Once I pass the 5 kms, I'm getting into a bit of a rhythm and could just keep going. My run is this Sunday, so I've only got a few days left to prepare, although there is not much I can do now. I'm getting over a cold atm so focussing all my attention on being well for Sunday. I'm expecting (or aiming) to complete it in 75 mins. We'll have to wait and see.
Lovely to chat again ladies. I know we are all super busy but we should do this more often! :D
-
Megan, Edward was only 8 1/2 months when he started walking. I find it hard to remember when he couldn't walk. lol. Good to hear that Noah's rash is getting better.
Nell, I still have to force myself through the first 3 km or so too. I am not a natural runner, but my New Year's resolution was to do 10km in under an hour. The sooner I can do it the sooner I can go back to running without worrying about how quickly I can do it. :) Good luck for Sunday.
Byron said only single words until he was around 2 years too. I haven't thought much at all about how much Edward says or doesn't say. I worry so much less about things the second time round, I will be surprised if Edward speaks well before he is 2.
-
Thats a great goal Mel. You're sure to be able to bowl that over soon.
I ran my 11km race on Sunday. It wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. I didn't stop (goal 1 achieved) and i came in at 67.5mins which I am stoked with (was aiming to beat 75mins). I'm thinking that if I can do this, I need something bigger and better for another goal. Half marathon???? Now that may be too m uch to bite off and chew.
-
That's right! Edward was walking well before Noah crawled!!
He tried to take a step today (without realising it, he just let go and kept moving) but went down like a sack of potatoes. Then he sat up and clapped like he always does when he tries to walk or has been standing!! He's such a dag!
I so wish I could run! I tried years ago to get into running, but found it really hard. My DH used to do fun runs, and so I started out by walking them and trying to work up to running but I just felt like I wasn't making any progress. Maybe I should try again. I'll mention it at the gym and see if they can recommend a program for me.
-
hehe, yep Edward walk before my DS crawled too. Amazing how different the LO are. Yet they catch up in the end (well most of them!). I know some kids who are amazing at anything sporting wise, but didnt walk till 18mths, and others whose literacy is amazing in Kindy - but didnt speak until they were 2.
Megan I started with the couch to 5km program (c25K). I think you might even be able to download podcasts of the 9-10 sessions. Its a 10 wk program and gradually builds you up from running for say 1 min, then walking 2 - to running 30 mins at the end of the 10 wks. It's good if you are motivated to chuck your ipod on and go out by yourself - listening to the music. The first 6 wks of this program I did with a group (not using the music - just the interval training), then took over by myself. I really only took it up as it was a cost effective way for me to keep fit - no gym fees and something I could do either with others or by myself. Ill see if I can find some info on it for you. Good on you for wanting to try again. :)
-
That sounds like something I might be able to have a go at. I joined the gym recently because I know if I didn't, I wouldn't get out and excercise. The area I live in has no footpaths, all dirt roads, very hilly and very poorly lit so it's hard to get out and about. My best bet would be a treadmill, at least until the weather is better, the days are longer and there's not footy training/games down at the local oval so I could maybe run around there.
I laughed when you said the program may start out with running 1 min, walking 2 etc. Is there a pre-program program?? lol I think I need to work my way up to running 1 minute! I best get myself on that treadmill walking for a few weeks I think. :)

Ollie was walking at 10 months, but 8.5 months is seriously clever! I can't keep him still! We go to kindygym to burn off some energy which he loves. He has just started jumping on the big trampoline by himself, it's so cute.
I took him for haircut number 2 this week, after our first haircut disaster I put it off for so long. But it was covering his eyes so I had to take him. I don't know how she convinced me to cut it so short, actually I don't think she did. She used the clippers and when she started it looked like he was bald, I almost cried! Ollie was hysterical, he was so upset, not sure we'll be going for the clippers again anytime soon. Once it was done though it did look pretty cute, and it will grow. It's long enough to spike up so I guess it's not that short, just looked it when you could see all the long hair on the other side. I think I need to learn how to cut hair, or find a hairdresser that's good with kids and will listen!
I'm so impressed with all the ladies that are running, or trying to start. I joined the gym and I keep doing the pilates or yoga classes, not the ones that are actually going to get me fit. You've all inspired me, I will do a class that scares me this week!
-
I understand what you mean about a class that scares you! lol I really want to try the boxing class or zumba, but I'm so uncoordinated. I usually do body pump or RPM which just involves standing or sitting in one spot - that I can handle! lol
I looked into kindygym for Noah, but couldn't find anything close by. We go to a music class every week which is good and he really enjoys. I'll enjoy it more once he's walking though because then I wont have to pick him up when we dance! It's getting harder and harder to carry him and pick him up all the time.
I can't believe Ollie has had his 2nd haircut already! :) Nothing worse than a hairdresser who doesn't listen. Might be worth hunting around for someone else who has a good reputation with kids
-
Sarah, I have a great hairdresser. She has 3 young children of her own, and she is just really good at convincing Byron to sit still while she finishes his hair. We are a long way off haircuts with Edward though. I have cut Byron's hair a few tiomes but it isn't worth the grief. It is soooo much easier to pay somone 10 dollars to do it! :)
I work with a woman who must weigh nearly 200kg and she does Zumba. If she can do it so can you girls!! I have decided that I am going to become a personal trainer sometime in the near future. We have been talking about moving back to Cairns to be closer to all the grandparents. I feel like I have been so lucky to have found the trainer I did, who is a mum and does group training sessions for $10 a pop. I would love to be able to do that for people too, and in Cairns I wouldn't be going into competition with someone who is now a friend. Plus staying fit would be my job and not just something I have to squeeze in around everything else. Now I just have to do it. Ha.
