Congrats to your sister (sister-in-law?)!! Glad they are both doing well!
Met her today, Ember Katrina, she is so special and soooo tiny! 47 cm long but so skinny! It's my sister, the second child in our family and news of a third one on the way today, gee it's all go!!
Congrats on your new niece Shona, I saw a pic on fb, she is adorable!
I have a new nephew too, his name is Blake!
Kellie: congrats on the safe arrival of Blake.
Is anyone still having wind issues or have bubs grown out of it? We are continuing to use medication which had been an absolute miracle cure. Not sure whether to try and wean off medicine yet, just thought i'd see whether anyone still struggling. Says to wean between 3-4 months, not sure whether I dare just yet!
I asked Health Visitor about poo as after Kirleys advbice was worried should be pasty rather than runny, she said that would remain runny until weaned onto solids. Funny how variable advice is on babies!
Kirley: how is the diet going?
Shona I only have the issues with wind when I eat something i shouldn't have re: William's bowel.....so that just reinforces to me that the diet is the right thing and that Wind & runny poo explosions shouldn't be the norm.
We had a terrible week last week....figured out it was the sausages I was eating every morning for breakfast. I can't remember if i wrote what was happening; about how William would feed for five minutes then act like he needed to burp or poo (waving crazy arms and legs and pulling terribly on my nipples); then even when he was still really hungry he would scream every time i went to feed him - but would take a bottle no problem. The sausages were giving him massive tummy pains and wind so much that he couldn't lie the way i wanted him to while bf him. i would have to put him to sleep for a small time to get the pain to pass. It was such a tiring and exhausting week for both of us...since i've stopped the sausages he has been feeding fine.
The lady that told me about the poo said that most Health Care ppl will say that runny poo is 'common' or 'normal' in bf babies only because it is so common nowadays because of all the things we eat - especially processed stuff.
neway be back later, the boy is awake after two minutes sleep *sigh*
Ok back again...........
So William's sleep during the day has been up and down with productivity....some days i can get him to have regular half hour-hour naps, other days all i get is 10minutes at a time an then other days again (like yesterday) i get almost a full day of awesome sleeps. yesterday i got a wake up at 4.00 (after going to sleep at 8ish), a wake up at 7.00 - back to sleep at 8 till 10. back to sleep at 11.45 till 12.45... then i went to put him to sleep at 3 but we had a visitor and that was the end of our good day - then he was awake until almost 10pm last night! very grumpy baby. cuz we were out and i couldn't do my usual routine of how i put him to sleep.
but i am still get almost all nights which is good because i've been sooo knackered since being on my diet. The no sugar is really hitting me hard! mind you i have caved a few times and had a random bicky and therefore i have to go thru the withdrawls again....*sigh* he's awake again b bak later
bak again fora third time!!
yeh so on the sleep thing - i have figured out why he wakes up so much during the day .....and it's cuz he likes to hear me talk/sing.....i've figured out that by rocking him either in the rocking chair or hammock and singing to him or having a conversation with someone else in the room he goes to sleep within 10-15mins max if not sooner....so i've been singing him to sleep every sleep (thinking about it now i did sing alot when at home while i was pregnant, cuz i have the radio on all the time)....but then once he stirrs and realises i'm not 'there' he wakes up and cries for me.....so....i'm guna record myself either having a convo with someone or singing to play it while he sleep during the day and see if that helps....it's worth a shot!!
and back on the diet thing....after one really bad day where he screamed lots to feed and then i gave up the sausages the next day his poo had started to be a bit thicker (not much but i noticed it)....but that's the only time i've seen it change - prolly cuz i break the diet so easy cuz its sooo hard to stick to...i'm really sick of meat and vege every meal of every day...especially breakfasts; i'd love just bacon and egg on toast or something yummy!! There are only so many variations you can make with chicken, mince, steak, pastry, zucchini, green capsicum, garlic, onion, cooked carrot & broccoli; bread wraps...and the only salads i can have is lettuce & cucumber. That is pretty much what my diet is consisiting of...oh and a little bit of pasta here and there. so very very boring!! and time consuming.
Congrats on all the new arrivals in your families ;)
HC how are things with you and DH?
Its been very quiet in here - everyone must be super busy!! Hope you are all well!
Shona -we stopped using the infant friend and he is ok, so maybe they do grow out of it? He barely even burps after a feed now but it doesn't worry him like it used to
Kirley - you poor thing! That diet combined with the sleep issues doesn't sound like fun!
My poor little man has a cold, he is so snuffly!!

Hi everyone
Quick update from me. Louis is going really well and has settled into quite a routine. He had a delayed growth spurt at 13/14 weeks which was ugly, but is back to being a lovely little bub. SL - no wind here. I think he has grown out of it and we stopped using Infacol about a month ago. His neck control is still pretty average. It's a little bit hard seeing him lagging behind other bubs. But he makes up for it in smiles and "talking" and turning out to be a pretty regular little sleeper. Have discovered more little quirks about him. He is the king of the powernap, so a little snooze in the car or buggy can make him impossible to settle once home - so we start the routine again. His breast refusal in the evenings we definitely about a lack of hunger. So now he goes down closer to 7 rather than 6.30, and its much less feeding hassle. He still has grotty witching hours. But I have just shifted out daily walk to 5pm. Although its dark and freezing - I bundle us both up. As a result, I am also starting to finally lose some weight. Phew.
Love to all of you. Sorry for the lack of personals - got to run out to the shop while he is asleep.
xxxx
Thanks guys, I think that we will look at weaning the medicine very soon and see how we go. We have had a very settled little man which with all the madness and moving about we have done is a minor miracle! He really is a joy at the moment and loves talking and giggling to everyone, although I am aware that we are due a wonder week shortly :(
We are still working on neck control, i'm not sure where we should be up to by now but he seems to be going well.
Sleeping "through the night", which is apparently 5 hours for bf babies. Not much by way of routine, bedtime variable between 7pm and 10pm and then we give an expressed dream feed about midnight and then he will wake sometime between 4-5am for a feed then back to bed until 7-8am. Seems to follow the same pattern with feeds, play and sleep daily. Not sure that he really has the typical cues we just work out what it is based on the time of day or last feed!
Three weeks left of our trip and then back to some normality, can't wait! Been great for the family to see Elliot develop, he seems to have turned into a "little person" over the last few weeks. Certainly a people person, has no interest in toys but loves to have a conversation. Have managed to borrow a play gym which has a mirror dangling over it so he can talk to himself, keeps him amused for a while!
Hello to everyone, hpe you are all well and enjoying your little people.
woohoo some more posts to read haha....
so yes the diet is extremely hard!! i caved in on Friday as i was really emotional and drained....from lack of sugar. It was making me depressed and i wasn't seeing any changes in me or william...so i started eating some things again (in small amounts to introduce them)...then today William has been a champ with sleeping - he's having an hour sleep every 2.5hours... we have a sumwhat routine today of feed play feed sleep and it's going great and his poo wasn't completely runny!! so now i'm regreting introducing everything again so i'm guna cut it back out for a bit longer as we now have progress with his bowel & sleeping!
he is still sleeping awesomely at night which is great...last night was asleep by 6pm; woke up at 5am back to sleep by 5.30, woke at 7.30 back to sleep at 9 and then our routine started by sleeping for an hour.
neway gota go gota help hubby finish wood floors *yay* look great!!
Kirley: seems that you have a perfect night time baby, wow 11 hours I am so envious. Does William need to sleep much during the day with such a long night sleep? Hope you manage to get back on the diet ok.
omigod Kirley, what a great sleeper!! am very jealous..although have had a few 5-6 hr nights in the past week which i';m hoping is the start of something :) unfortuantely, it tends to be his first sleep of the night so i tend to go to bed halfway through his long sleep and don't fully benefit however last night he slept from 9.30 til 4 :) :) i of course woke about 1ish as i heard him making noise and thought he was waking...hope i get out of that quickly!!
we're going through a wonder week right now, it's the week 12, although he's only 9.5 weeks, he gets them a couple of weeks ahead due to being overdue etc..apparently it's based on due date not actual birth date.. so last few days been poor sleeping & cranky and lack of appetite, yesterday was a better day - we went out for the hwole day and took him to lunch and dinner.. it was nice & he slept most of the day! thankfully asleep now so i can grab some breakfast...ooh prob getting cold, best head off..
still on the infants friend and plenty of farts out this way but the osteo seems to have helped a bit.. am just going to start trying a routine this week & be more stringent in settling him rather than just sitting him in front of tv with us etc, figure it's time to help him to become a good sleeper..
sl glad you're enjoying your trip ;)
Yes he still needs sleep during the day.... otherwise we have screaming at night!!
almost a perfect day yesterday..had four one hour naps during the day - went to put him down for another at 4.30 so john and i could get ready for church....no luck...put him to sleep 7 times and he kept waking *sigh* we were late for church. he was awake until about 9.30...then he slept till quarter to five :)....so back to start a new day.
Shona he still gets very tired during the day....so i'm guna stick with trying to put him to sleep no later than two hours after he's been awake...seems he's not too cranky then but not really alert. So our sleep routine is wrapping with arms up then kite wrap over top to keep him all snug. then we go and sit in the rocking chair in his room and snuggle under a blankie together and sing nursery rhymes till he is asleep. it's cute cuz sometimes he sings along with me in his baby babble.
anyway off to have breaky cuz i'm starving....guna try to go back on the diet again! just having a bit of sugar here and there so i dont get withdrawls majorly!!
Well our night routine has gone out the window since we have been back, too hard with all the moving around we are doing. Elliot can still only manage maximum 90 minutes awake during the day before he gets cranky and needs to sleep. He doesn't sleep very much at all during the day, just power naps and yet we still don't get a huge night sleep....sigh He didn't go down properly until midnight last night and still up at 4am for a feed then out of bed by 7.30. He likes to be involved in what's going on too much, think he feels is missing out if sleeping, just like his Dad!!
I am just finishing my second Pinky McKay book, I love them and her ideas. Her whole philosophy on babies and sleeping is just what I was looking for, plenty of good info for me to try out.
i have a pinky mckay book too about sleeping - yet to be finished though....thanks kellie for letting me know about her....her views on sleeping and just general stuff totally make me feel better about what i was doing...felt like i was doing everything 'wrong' ....but apparently i'm not yay...
aww hopefully elliot sleeps a bit better thru the night for you soon.
maranui how'd you go with the swaddling for sleeps? are you still doing it?
