Oh bum - I know how you feel we meet Cooper's all the time and the amount of Archers and Archies is getting up there! 3rd child will be a Hunter if we are blessed with another boy - yet another popular name but meh he may as well be like his brothers!

Re: drunk mamas these are all pushing 30, most married! I did my fair share of partying during Uni and am quite happy to leave those days behind me! I wouldn't mind a lunch with my girls and a few vinos but that's the extent of it! I feel for the kids too - one drove her car 3 hours south last weekend for a service when it could be done here admitting it was so she could be childless! sad sad sad

Archie had his shots and has been held all day, one unhappy chappy! GP tried to tell me I HAD to start him on solids WTF?! So we had a 'discussion' about my thoughts on that *SIGH* didn't have him measured or weighed will wait til our paed appt on Thursday, he has definitely gotten bigger as he is fast growing put of the size 0 clothes! Not chubby but - has rolls on his thighs and a big head but mega mega long! And I think his eyes are staying blue YAY!

Tan: poor bubba :( hope he gets better soon. What washing powder do you use for your mcn's? Elliot has nappy rash I think from using earth choice liquid, only just found out you're supposed to use powder on em, doh!! Elliot has blue/grey eyes too cute! So sad about mumma's not wanting to be with their kids and valuing booze more than family, I thankfully don't know ahyone like that.

Well i'm off the dairy and milk proteins, see if it's Elliots belly that's keeping him awake. So over these nights, up every couple of hours, only thing that will pacify him is boob. Been in our bed last 3 nights with boob on tap, every time he cries I just plug him up with boobie. So glad I mastered feeding lying down or I would have gone mad!

3 hours to service a car! thats sad....if i had a three hour break i certainly wouldn't spend my time driving!!

That's crazy about the GP - since when do babys HAVE to go on solids at even six months let alone 4??!! Good on you for standing your ground.....babies don't even always have the tongue reflexs (rolling of the tongue) at that age!! way to get a baby to choke!
Wow nearly out of 0's!! What do you feed that child Tan!?! we are staying put around the 6.5 it seems - will find out again tomorrow.
William's eyes are also blue - really light blue like Johns. So pretty (or handsome for a boy??) :).

I'll keep my fingers crossed that it works for you Shona....it's sooo frustrating but with a bit of patience hopefully it will work! I suck at bf lying down, *sigh* i sooo wish i could do it. Would be great!

Did he only just get it now? or has he had it for a while? If the dairy is causing Elliots sore tum......could be from that?
William has had a rash the whole time but it doesn't really look like a rash (you know all spotty)....it started as a little red circle around his bottom hole....then as he got worse with food it spread...it's like a burn and that's from the acid in his poo caused by what i'm eating....got really bad it covered his whole bottom at one point and got bumpy (thankfully didn't seem to bother him).....now it's back to being little again but is really red from the spag bol i ate sunday night *poor bub*

Kirley: it has only just come over the last couple of days so pretty sure it's the nappies, used Hydrazole cream last night and this morning it had healed. Wonder stuff it was so red and angry last night. Also using cooled chamomile tea to clean his bum, baby wipes leave a film of bacteria so hopefully we can prevent reoccurence. Thanks for your advice and support, diet does not seem to be going too bad, had rice milk with my porridge and in my tea, it wasn't too bad really. Managed to abstain from carrot cake for afternoon tea at a friends and stuck with my black tea. I have also gone off caffine mostly and his evening behaviour has much improved although a couple of naught cups of tea today mainly drinking herbal tea. CHamomile at night as it is supposed to go into your milk and help them sleep, yeah right!!

Tan: I certainly agree with Kirley on the solids thing. The days of early introduction of solids are long gone, they reckon it could well be contributing to the increasing number of kids with food allergies. The immature gut recognises food as foreign invader and produces antibodies and allergic reaction which they continue to have each time they are exposed to that food, makes sense. Plus they can't sit unaided and as Kirley said their tongue thrust relfex is still there so they wouldn't likely take much of it anyway. Stupid doctors!!

I still drink normal tea...LC said i could lol....so i'm guna cuz it's cold...i tried rice milk but i couldn't stand it in tea! ruined the whole taste....lol. William seems to be ok with a splash of cows milk or lactose free milk in it - but i can't have more than one cup a day cuz then it hurts his tummy!

Shona re nappies I use either Eco Choice or Aware powder but when I can get it Rockin Green it's imported and sells out in like an hour just google it there is a Facebook page for it to! It strips your nappies of all the detergent build up and what is left in the water is vomit worthy! Becareful using creams as they will affect absorbency too! We use moo goo.

And yep my doc is a douche bag - really liked him up til then! I argued my case and even asked him if he'd heard of the WHO ... Bit of a smart Alec I was but makes you wonder how many mums just think we if my doc said its alright than it must be! Family friend started her lil girl on solids just before 4 months on his recommendation and no matter what I said she couldn't be told that it wasn't the right thing to do *sigh*


Arch is still uber clingy - I am nursing him atm while he sleeps and I can hear Coop making mess in the kitchen! Doing my best to think about how the traits he displays now (determination, persistences, inquistiveness - is that even a word?) that drive me batty are things I will admire and be proud he has when he is an adult! A pinky pearl of wisdom!

Wayne's put an offer on a house in collinsville - I have only seen it online - but scary! But if it means morw family time togetter than itla gotta be a good move ?!

I can't stand rice milk - but I hate milk full stop! Coop even though he can now tolerate dairy refuses to drink cows! Apparently it is the most similar tasting ti beastmilk?! Or is sweet like it or something along those lines

Talking of solids that is crazy for the doctor to even suggest that, stupid doctor! I hate to imagine this is the advice they are giving out.

Wow Tan Archer sounds like he is powering along nicely, he will be chasing coop around in no time, hopefully he will not get up to as many mischievous tricks :). I love reading your tales about coop.

How exciting putting an offer on a house, i hope it all goes well. A bit scary not seeing it though, i guess a home it what you make of it though.

Kirley, How did Will go with his weigh in?

Taz is doing great, i did have the worst night i have ever had yet with him last night, i think he had a sore tummy and kept on waking up screaming and then they only way to get him back to sleep was to sing and rock him, i think i finally passed out on the couch with him around 3am. He did do a massive poo this morning so hopefully what ever was bothering him has now passed. He is growing heaps and is probably around 7.5kg. He is loving wanting to stand up at the moment so i borrowed one of those activity center things which he is loving and it gives me 15min free to get something else done. He doesnt seem to have long sleeps during the day unless he is on me which makes things very unproductive so i will have to start working on that.

Anyway better go and get some lunch before they wake up.

Hey everyone!

Phew. What a lot to catch up with. Sounds like you are all going really well. I cant believe there is rolling and teeth going on. SL - welcome back! Kirley - you are a champ on that diet! and BM, solids....nuts! As for being a booze-hag. Yikes. Not for me. I am absolutely gone-burger when I have about half a glass. And then all I want to do is sleep not party. Crazy!

Well, its been a while so where do I start....hmmmm. Louis is really well. He is about 7.5kg now so chubbing up really well. He has gone from being 10th percentile to just over 50th so is Mr Average. Our sleep has gone a bit to pack. He was sleeping through but now is back to waking up at 1 and 4. Stinky. I think, like you guys, that he isnt getting as much during the day as he is so distracted with feeding. Day sleeps have improved largely due to getting rid of the dummy I think. I have also had a bit of panic that my supply is low so am now taking fenugreek tea - which tastes revolting but which I actually think might be working! Thank goodness as I was at the end of my tether and contemplating a formula top up. He is rolling front to back, but no back to front yet. His neck issues are all sorted. No teeth. But lots of red cheeks and grumpiness. First plane ride over successfully. Also first illness and first week by myself. All three of the aforementioned happened in the same week!

AFM - I have had a touch of PND. It came from nowhere and really surprised me. Just feeling like I was doing a crap job and not seeing any positive options anywhere. It was really hard on DH (who was fantastic) and I feel for my little boy who has had a mum going through the motions rather than really enjoying things. I think its on the mend now. No drugs, but lots of exercise and a conscious attempt to cut myself more slack. I feel for mums out there who get a bad case of it. I think I was mainly feeling quite isolated as it started after my inlaws left following a visit.

Anyway - I had thought the little boy had settled but he has just woken again. Better run! Hi to you all. More soon.

Marauni, so good to hear from you and glad that Louis is doing well. Sorry to hear about your PND, I was feeling a bit down as well and have started the exercise and getting out of the house more. I think it also helps that the weather is getting better. I have also stopped trying to do everything and working out what can wait. I have decided so what if i have a messy house :)

Taz is doing the same, he was sleeping through but as of last week that has gone out the window and has started waking up twice a night. Day sleeps are terrible, i am lucky to get 3 20-45 min ones unless he is sleeping on me then i can get anything up to 3 hours.

Yay for Louis's rolling, Taz does not seem that interested he is more interested in standing up or sitting. I bought him one of the bumbo seats and he loves it.

Maranui: great to hear from you, sorry you've been feeling down. It's hard this motherhood gig, nobody really warns you!! I'm sure you are doing a fab job and cutting yourself some slack is certainly the go.

Well AFM, DH has a job starts Monday, first he will have worked since Elliot being born:( Sole parenting, i'm dreading it especially as he is such a terrible day sleeper. Seems that we are all suffering the effects of the looming wonder week 19, apparently can start to see effects from week 15 onwards. I noticed Elliots behaviour change so checked the book and there it is, he fits the wonder week to a tee! Needles today so not a happy little fella, poor thing. My diet is going pretty good, rice milk pikelets and fruit were yummy it's not as bad as I thought. No idea whether it is helping but he had a bit more substance to his poo today although very green and slimey, yuck. Anyway he is asleep on my knee so need to try and put him down, wish me luck!

eww green and slimy not good....stick to the diet and hopefuly it will be back to mustard and pastey soon! Glad it's not as horrible as you invisioned! haha...although i miss dairy sooo much! dw bout day sleeps during the day...just try and if he won't then let it be...theres no point in fighting it with him *trust me i know* it just makes you (well makes me cuz i'm impatient) very angry and frustrated.

I want a bumbo - i tried one and they are awesome...but money is tight atm :( and i want my own ergobaby carrier first before a bumbo...the one i borrowed from my doula i sadly had to return on wednesday...makes it hard to put william to sleep again when out.

I want an Ergo too but already have a hugabub and 2 ring slings so chances are slim I will yet to convince Wayne even so, will use the but I can use it in the water angle - want the new performance model coming out next month! And yes Bumbos rock... It is however the one thing that Coop is rally possessive about so gotta be careful when A is in it while he is around! How did your trial go today Kirst?

Shona my gueSs is the rank poo is from his vaccination. A had some really rank poos and super stunky farts ever since his on Monday, although I have a feeling the extra wind maybe sausage related?! What are these wonder weeks you speak of? A few of you have mentioned them before and I am clueless, feel free to enlighten me when you get a chance! I am sure you (and Elliott) will survive with hubby back at work! You seem like you are very intune with his needs, piece of 'diary free' cake =P! Much luck being sent your way!

Samara it seems all our boys who were pulling all nighters are waking up more often during the night/morning! A will now wake at 1 and 4.30 - is it an age/stage thing?

Maranui *hugs* good on you for seeing the signs within yourself and doing something about it! I have had my fair share of 'I can't do this' moments but they are more related to the toddler than Arch! Once the sun started shining and the rain ****ed off I felt a million bucks - amazing what a lil vitamin d induced seratonine (sp?) can do! Sounds as though Louis is thriving! I was taking fenugreek capsules which I can assume would be much more palatable than the tea!

As for us A got the all clear from the Paed YAY! She did however suggest he start on solids too!? Why I don't know I wasn't prepared for another 'discussion' with someone who should know better! He is going great guns, stacking on weight and is content with breastmilk so I don't get why twice in one week I would be told to start (and on rice cereal of all things - vomit)

A is a real mover - he gets around by rolling and inching along like a worm! He is never in the same spot I left him - found him stuck up against a wall this arv when I came back from the loo LOL seems he is trying to keep up with his big br bro already - lord give me strength!

His teeth are troubling him a wee bit, always has his fingers in his mouth, even attempts to stick em in there while he is feeding - plus he has a rash under his bottom lip from gumming down ykwim?!

Did you see on Facebook Teni went public with her PA! The cookie is outa the bag so to speak! So exciting! alrightie must go to bed and catch some zzz's ! More likely to lay awake wondering who to vote for *sigh* ni night

Kirley: YAY for Will on the roll. We are so close to a back to front but still not quite there! We have yellow poo again today but still liquid, i'll hang in there for another week or so but if it doesn't improve then i'll try and reintroduce stuff.

OK so today i'm having a rant, not a happy bunny. We have been having some sleep issues with Elliot, he is not going down in his bassinette well and wakes frequently up to every 90 minutes. We have been dealing with it pretty well and up until about midnight I will settle him back into his own bed but after that it just gets too hard as I am so tired so I bring him into our bed. When he is in our bed boob comes out and he goes on and off as he pleases, unfortunately when the nipple falls out of his mouth he has started crying to get it back in. I don't see this as a major issue, I am managing just fine and feel like I am still getting enough sleep as as soon as he goes back on the boob we both fall asleep, DH has also been very supportive.

My rant is so called "friends" who feel it essential to foist their parenting choices on you. My best friend has a 9 week old baby, he is very unsettled during the day, neither parent has enjoyed him, he has terrible reflux and she has such a stringent routine that he is put to bed at certain times whether tired or not. Since we have come back from the UK I go round and see her and the atmosphere is so tense that it is not a nice place to be. She is a fan of letting her son cry it out, she puts him to bed and shuts the door and he cries until he falls asleep. I so strongly disagree but I choose not to say anything as it is her choice. She smoked right through her pregnancy and in the beginning I told her I disapprovednbut then left it at that as it again is her choice. She gave up BF as he had tummy problems, I gave her some options about diets to try before giving up but she did anyway, again I disapprove that she made what she calls a "lifestyle choice" and wanted to eat , drink booze and smoke as she pleased, but I again chose not to say anything. My choices are just that, made for my and my son with only us in mind, how other people choose to parent is not my issue. She came round yesterday afternoon with her partner and they had to leave to put him to bed as he does not cope with any changes to his environment and will not settle unless at home following his military style regime. He does not cope with any change at all. Elliot has had change since birth and has been here there and everywhere, we can go out when we like as he will settle wherever we are.

Why is it then that she cannot afford me the same priviledge? She continually tells me that Elliot has sleep problems as we do not allow him to cry, I keep reminding her that it is a parenting choice we have made and I refuse to let him cry it out. Still she persists to tell me about the problems she feels we are creating for ourselves. She talks to me through the baby (something which she says her Mum does to her and she hates it!). She took him to change his nappy for me and said to him "Let's see if Mummy can let go of the umbilical cord long enough to let me change your nappy". It really infuriates me and I am getting ready to burst. I really want to continue to let it go and I think that we have a much more emotionally well rounded and happy child but do not believe that I should continue to justify my choices on how I parent. If we are happy with it and Elliot is thriving, why must people feel the need to interfere?!

I spoke to my Nan last night, she spoke to DH first and she asked about Elliots sleep. He told her that he was not sleeping well at night, she suggested giving him solids as my milk is not enough, he told her that we will not be starting before 6 months. She then got on the phone to me and proceeded to tell me also that she thought he was ready for solids, I told her the same thing as DH, ARGH!!!

I would just like people to leave us alone, whether they agree of not on how we parent. Unless we are doing something which they feel would be detrimental to his health, leave us the hell alone!!!

Oh Shona i know exactly how you feel! It is sooo frustrating when people tell you what you should be doing and your baby is perfectly happy.
I am 100% confident that you are doing the right thing for elliot - and clearly you can see how hypocritical your 'friend' is being. One of the ladies from my church (of all places) said to me on facebook the other day about control crying (she is all for it) that children have to learn that the world doesn't revolve around them....i see it the opposite...in fact while a baby is COMPLETELY DEPENDENT on the mother than yes our whole life does revolve around them! Who cares about washing, who cares about making that coffee date, who cares about turning up to places on time....you have to live with your baby/child and they are the ones that will either love you and trust you back or you will be left with a disobedient child who hates his parents and can't wait to move out when he/she is 15.
That's my view point on it. As frustrating as it is with William only sleeping short naps during the day; or wanting to sleep on me; or the fact that I can't eat alot of stuff.....he is only a baby for a few months really and even then he has grown up so quickly...that i'm not going to just chuck him in a cot and let him cry because I am 'spoiling' him otherwise.
Everyone else can go get stuffed!

As for the solids - again people are sooo selfish. its like they think that babies shouldnt' rely on their mothers! that mothers have other important things to do so quick make the baby grow up! You could feed elliot breast milk for the next few years without solids and it would still satisfy him (prehaps not his curiosity of food ;) but hunger and comfort wise it would.

As for the diet....it took two weeks for me to see just a slight change in his poo...even then it went back to runny straight after...the sleeping didnt happen for another week after so hang in there! Have you noticed any difference in regards to how painful/hard it is for him to push a poo out? that was probably the first thing i noticed, was he didn't cry when trying to poo...and then the poo change....then now he hardly ever farts when he poos, he just passes it quitely & without little effort. big difference from where we were.

Well, this 4 month wonder week/ growth spurt/ sleep regression whatever you call it, I am OVER IT! I keep reading that it ca go on for up to 2 months, ARGH! Elliot is still wanting to feed all day an night and even onto both barrels which he has only done twice since birth. One boob just doesn't fill him up anymore. Hoping hat milk will be plentiful in a few days and he will settle down a bit. It co-inciding with Matt going back to work was just plain bad luck :(

Well I seem to be ranting to myself but that's ok, if everyones babies are as demanding as mine I surely understand why.

Elliot is waking every 45-60 minutes, he does not seem to be able to get through a sleep cycle ATM. He is so cranky when he wakes up too as he really doesn't want to be awake and is so hard to settle. He is at least having better day naps, usually a 90 minute nap around 10am, 60 minute nap around 13.00 and another 90 minutes about 15.00. Arsenic hour is also over and he is so placid in the evenings and goes to bed like a dream after bath and story, no battles whatsoever and straight to sleep. I put him down sleepy but not asleep and he self settles in his bassninette but only for 45 minutes.

Last night bed @ 18.45, up at 19.30 then awake till 22.15, back asleep then and awake at 23.25. Had a feed and would not go back down in his own bed so came into mine then awake and put on the boob every hour. DH is sleeping in the spare room so he can get some rest and we are coming to major blows over how to manage Elliot. After being so supportive up to this point he now thinks that I have created this problem by using gentle parenting techniques, co-sleeping and BF in bed. He is talking of me needing to give formula top up before bed or leave him to cry, things which he was so against before all this started. I really don't want to entertain a bottle of formula, for one it may not work and if it did and he slept through my milk supply would dry up. I have tried to explain to DH that we need to continue to do what is best for Elliot and that our needs for sleep come second but i'm not sure that it is sinking in! My family are still trying to convince me that solids is the way, another avenue i'm not prepared to go down at this point in time.

I didn't get to sleep until about 2am this morning as I kept anticipating him waking and it just kept me awake. Also thoughts running through my mind about whether we're doing the right thing. DH laid a huge guilt trip on me saying that if i'm not prepared to try any of his suggestions that he hopes that my milk is providing enough nutrition and that he is sleeping enough to develop normally. I was so furious and upset, it's just not like him to not be with me in parenting choices. I do understand his frustration, I am the one that is living it every day and trying to look after him all day when I am so tired I could cry.

I hope that this phase will be over soon and I can start feeling like a human being again!
